After working with my crew planning our weeks work all morning at the hotel, it was time for some lunch. One of the crew mentioned Black Bear Diner as a choice. I GPS'ed the place and it wasn't too far away, so off we go. You just get off the 5 at Highland Drive north and make the first left and then turn into the Best Western Motel and Black Bear is right there. I guess this is a super convenient location if you're staying at this motel! The place looks similar to other Black Bear locations and the staff was friendly and nice. We all looked over the menu and ordered our drinks. This place has a good variety of foods from salads to burgers and all kinds of breakfast foods. I decided on the Patty Melt, some of the crew got other entrees. It all looked good and no one complained they couldn't find anything they wanted to eat. I know my crew pretty well by now. My patty melt was cooked as ordered and was actually very tasty. This location was consistent with all the other Black Bear locations I've been to. We don't normally eat ever at Black Bear just because the food usually is never up to par at any location we have been to and this was no exception. We had to eat here because it was the only place close to where we were staying and getting late. We had breakfast items from the menu, because you can't mess up breakfast to bad. My husband's breakfast was ok but I had biscuits and gravy with ham and eggs. The biscuit were hard and dry, the ham was like a 3 inch square and the eggs were cold. I would say it was because they were busy but that was not the case. It was fairly empty. Not only that we were seated right where they gather the dishes and under a cold vent. However not to sound like a total Karen we absolutely loved our waitress! She was super nice and efficient. I wish I could remember her name but the whole staff that was there, friendly as can be. Ugh.. so many issues. Our order was completely wrong. He asked for no gravy on pot roast, it came saturated (and cold) AND SALTY!!! I asked for a small soup and salad got a large salad no soup. If you want a a place to eat that feels as if you're loved like you're at your grandparents house, this is the place to go. My parents recently moved to Medford and I visited and this is where they took me. Unbeatable food, proportions, quality, price and atmosphere. I loved this spot and the surrounding Medford area so much that I'm working on moving my family and I there. Black Bear Diner is my new spot and hopefully Medford being my new home. 1000/10 review! We stopped in to Black Bear Diner in Medford OR after a long day of work on my aunts land in Montague, CA on our way home. (Imagine how tired and hungry we were) From arrival to departing we were greeted with such kindness and enthusiasm. We were seated immediately. Our waitress was phenomenal. We had our order and drinks in quickly. Our food was brought to us and we couldn't wait to dig in. Our order was without hick up and the food was delicious. Thank you to the cooks preparing the food orders. Portions were more than we could handle in one serving and each one of our meals was delicious. YUMMY!! Our server was friendly and courteous. He took our drink order promptly and retrieved freshly made vanilla creamer. I enjoyed my flavorful veggie scramble, but I should have asked for crispier bacon, and the potatoes were rather salty. My friend enjoyed her two egg breakfast very much. Located just off I-5 this Black Bear Diner easy to get to. It is close to over ten hotels and the Lithia/Driveway Fields & Sports Complex. The menu selection is very good. Black Bear is known for its generous portions and always at a good price. I have had their home style meatloaf Over the past year I have had the Hungry Bear Breakfasts all are Very Good. The Bob's Big Bear Cheeseburger is over half pound of seasoned beef The only thing I have had in the past that I feel wasn't that great was the all you can eat fish & chips which is a Friday special. The regular fish dinner is much better using a better quality of fish but not available for the all you can eat meal. read more

It's just ok. Business is clearly not doing well. Multiple signs posted regarding staffing challenges and requesting patience. We didn't have any issues with service at all. Efficient and pleasant as usual *thumbs up* Portions have noticeably shrunk. Salad and toppings are almost exactly 50% less and some topping are just missing, for the same price. Chicken and Waffles is 2 chicken strips with a child-sized waffle like you would expect from the kids menu. It's fine, but portions are significantly smaller than just 6 months ago. We had a long drive with our 9 & 6 year old grandsons from Fair Oaks to Medford. They requested Black Bear Diner and were excited. The worst place ever! We were in town for business and decided to check this diner out cause of the cute wooden bear statues. We came in and were seated right away. The menu was quite vast. We ordered our drinks but weren't offered enough cream for our 3 coffees my dad ended up taking cream cups from 2 different vacant tables. She took our orders literally took like 30-40 minutes to get our food my husband and dad got the same tri tip French dips one had a ton of meat and the other had like a 1/3 of the meat. My mom sent her meal back it was cold. She decided to share with my dad rather than order something else or have them remake it. I started to eat my cob salad that I ordered with grilled chicken they brought it with crispy breaded chicken I let our waitress know but told her it was fine I'd just give the chicken to my husband. I took one more bite and there was a hair I couldn't believe this could get any worse. She took the salad back and had it remade. She brought me a new one with the grill chicken it was pathetic the amount of chicken was like 5 tiny pieces. At this point I ate it and wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible . I ordered a meal for pick up from Medford and then drove to a hotel in Ashland only to find out a pancake that I had ordered was not in my order. I called the restaurant and Troy told me he would deliver me a pancake which I found hard to believe since we were in Ashland and he was in Medford. Then, when my husband started to eat his meal, the pancake was buried under scrambled eggs, sausage, and gravy. Troy showed up at our door within less than a half an hour and brought me two pancakes. That is outstanding service along with their outstanding meal, which was delicious. He took a mistake and made it into a five star status. I had a hankering for the turkey roast meal (yes, Thanksgiving in June is a thing), my hubby got the meatloaf, and my son ordered a cheeseburger. We all scarfed our food down in moderate silence, grunting here and there. There are some healthy options on the menu, which is a newspaper, by the way, but I always want to carb load and bathe in the gravy at a place like this. I really enjoyed my visit here. Great & friendly service from the hostess to my waitress. I ordered a cup of chili with cheese & onions and it came with a perfect corn muffin. Chili was some of the best I've ever had! Also, ordered the Cheeseburger salad without cheese: also really delicious & flavorful. Homemade Thousand Island dressing reminded me of my mom's!
