One day we hopped in the car and said, "Let's drive down to Medford for the night." We found a cheap hotel and as chance would have it, this little bakery was right around the corner. It is a small, intimate space where we were greeted with a big smile by the hostess and our waiter came by soon after we were seated. It was a chilly walk around the corner so I was looking for a hot coffee to warm me up. Having never been here before I opted for the special of the day, which was something with lavender in it, and I was surprised at the delicate way the latte both supported the robust coffee flavor and the delicate lavender addition. It was better than I anticipated and I knew that we had stumbled upon a gem of a spot that emphasized quality of what they serve. Now, for breakfast, I love a good gravy but I am always disappointed by my order. The country gravy is usually too thin, to bland, too chunky with some sort of meat product, and too small of quantity to really enjoy a good biscuit with it. With this skepticism in mind, I ordered the "The Works" assuming at the very least, the addition of fried eggs and ham were good enough to eat on its own when the gravy, which I also assume will disappoint me, runs dry. I apologize for my assumptions, ButterCloud Bakery, because I was served a thick, seasoned, peppery gravy and plenty of it. This is actually the best gravy I have ever ordered from a restaurant, if I was not traveling, I might have bought a few sides of this delicious concoction and brought it home for the next several mornings! Nothing skimpy on my plate. My husband ordered the beef and blue and devoured every last bite. I managed to steal a few bites off his plate and was pleasantly surprised, I did not expect to like it as much as I did. I stole a few more bites when he was in the bathroom! We left very satisfied with our meal, our drinks, and our service. Fast forward a few months later and we are traveling with my parents to California and we insisted that we stopped by ButterCloud Bakery to share our gem of a find. My mom considers herself quite the cook and she also was skeptical of the gravy. One bite and her eyes popped...she was also impressed. This time round I had the scone and gravy and enjoyed every last bite. My mom tried a specialty hot chocolate and I, again, had the latte special of the day, both were rich with flavor. Our second round at ButterCloud Bakery did not disappoint and we have decided it will be our go-to spot when we are in the area, there is still a lot of menu items to try! read more

Buttercloud used to be a 10/10 experience. I have been here 3 times recently really wanting and hoping for what I'd come to expect and the food has just been frankly disappointing. I tried the salmon scramble which was tiny and ok. I had a very mediocre omelette.... I figured maybe I was just ordering the wrong thing. But then I had the brisket sandwich which had always been amazingly - the biscuit was overdone, the brisket was dry and tasted old. For a 14$ sandwich I kind of need it to be amazing for it to be worth it. Hopefully the kitchen will turn it around because I used to really love this place. Found this place near by our AirBnB so we stopped by on the way to our road trip. I personally loved their biscuits and honey. We togo our food and ate in the car. It was still delicious and amazing. Service was not quick since they were busy serving people in the restaurant cause it was Saturday morning. We ended up asking them if they are working on our order to remind them we are still waiting after 30 mins of waiting. We ordered two things (biscuits and omelette). Our first visit to Buttercloud. This roomy and pleasant restaurant is not on the main drag but it's worth searching to find. Our adult son had a breakfast sandwich and he said it was very good, though he would prefer another holder for the sandwich rather than the muffin. The muffin was good, he just prefers another medium. My wife had a breakfast scramble and wholeheartedly recommends it. I had the cornbread breakfast. I have always loved cornbread -- the light, fluffy sort that I grew up with. This cornbread is the real deal. It is grainy and very filling. It is topnotch! The bacon and potatoes are superb. What a delicious breakfast sandwich. The biscuits are so fluffy and not dry at all. The sausage was so flavorful and the egg was perfectly runny. They had so many fresh baked goods, I wish I would have gotten to try more. The service was great and our waitress was very nice and helpful. Stopped in on the way home. Tried the biscuit jam sampler and cornbread this time; in addition to the regular favorites. Always excellent. The style of cornbread is on the dryer side- likely perfect with the pulled pork or other toppings. I soaked mine in butter and honey. My fiancé and I were on a business trip to Southern Oregon. My parents decided to join us there. We decided to check this breakfast place out. The place was cute and a very airy space with high ceilings.The service was great our server was very attentive. The food was good but the prices were higher than expected for what you got. We got coffee 16oz coffee for almost 4$ no free refills you have to pay more. I realize it was suppose to be a coffee press but brewed coffee should be offered because most people would be fine paying $4 with refills just an idea. My dad ordered a Bloody Mary which had a little biscuit with the other garnishes such a cute idea. The Bloody Mary was very small. Absolutely recommend Buttercloud Bakery & Cafe. This place delivers on all fronts, food, service, and atmosphere. The Veggie Hash Plate was outstanding. The roasted and seasoned vegetables were cooked perfectly, topped with two fried eggs that brought everything together. The side of bacon added the right balance, and the biscuit with housemade jam was next level, fresh, rich, and full of flavor. The Farmhouse sandwich was just as impressive. The combination of fried egg, bacon, tomato, and basil aioli was simple but executed perfectly, everything tasted fresh and well-balanced. And the French press coffee (Evans Valley Roasting) really stood out. Smooth, rich, and full-bodied, exactly what you want from a quality cup of coffee. You can tell they care about what they serve. Wanted to try a new place with vegetarian food when visiting Medford and this sounded so eclectic . We tried the greens and cheese sandwich and then zucchini pepper sandwich . I loved the pepper jelly in the sandwich so much that got a bottle for myself . The biscuit was yummy and heavy . Somehow the sandwich's itself felt a little dry . I got the kombucha and it was good . My husband got the veggie hash and it was yummy ( the poached eggs were done nicely ) . The service is fabulous ( both at the front and the server ) . Come for the brekkie, stay for the epic biscuit sammiches! I arrived in between prime dining hours, so I was able to enjoy a meal with no crowd and fast service. My biscuit sammich was freshly made and pretty much confirmed why I should convert to using biscuits as a sandwich vessel instead of wheat or sourdough. I also grabbed a pecan orange cinnamon roll to share with mom a little later. It was epic delicious but likely would have been 4x tastier had we eaten it fresh from the bakery case. Still, it was very good. I imagine this place is busy at times you'd expect, but they do run a decent shop here, so a visit is worth it. This was a slightly below average meal. We stopped here on a trip and the ratings were really high, so we were excited. The patio has a lovely ambiance and all of the staff were very friendly, but the veggies in the Smokey Omelet were raw, the eggs in the Benedict were under cooked, the coffee was really bitter. ...I never thought I'd be writing this review, but after yesterday's experience, I think I'm officially breaking up with Buttercloud :( I'm going to assume our server was just having a bad day yesterday, because he's usually very pleasant and engaging - complete opposite from yesterday. In fact, he was very curt and borderline rude. Extra awesome since my out of town guests got to experience this level of service. Also, I never knew what the hype was about biscuits before until I tried Butterclouds. Light, Fluffy, slightly salty crust... now, they're bigger, denser, solid bricks - your typical greasy spoon biscuit. The egg batter doesn't even penetrate the biscuits for their French biscuits plate.. Sadness all around. I'll keep it at a 3 because they use fresh ingredients and keep it local, but yeah, Buttercloud and I are officially quits. RIP read more

I was running late to class at SOU and needed coffee and something to eat, Typed in bakery and Buttercloud popped up as close by. Great that they have a nice parking lot right next to it. Went in, got a cheery "good morning" and I looked over their goods. I ordered a Mayan coffee which has cinnamon and chili powder....soooooooo good! Nice way to kick start the morning! Me: I'll take a bacon cheddar scone She: Good choice...they just came outta the oven... Man, if you order this, ask if it just came out, if not, ask them to heat it up, which I did a couple days later, and they are soooooooo good! One day I got a delicious cinnamon twist, another day I got a sweet and tart lemon bar, but my favorite would have to be the sticky bun! Worst service I have received in years. Waiter was very impatient with my friend who was having a hard time making a decision. Instead of offering to help her make a decision he walked away and came back 20 minutes later. I ordered the stack. He waited until our food was about to come out (which took forever) to tell me thag they were out of coleslaw. The stack is a layer of cornbread coleslaw And pulled pork. The creamy coleslaw helps make the meal yummy. So I asked him if I could have a little Mac and cheese instead. He told me no. Then asked me if I wanted avacodo instead and I said no. Then he walks away and my meal comes out with avacado! My meal sits on the table for 20 more minutes. Everyone in my group had finished eating before he came to check on us. And I said no. I dont want the meal with avacado. Can I please purchase a cup of chili instead to go with the cornbread. He says sure. 20 minutes later I asked him for the check. He brings the check and I pay full price for my meal dry cornbread and pulled pork which is still sitting on the table untouched. 10 more minutes go by and my chili still isn't out so we get up and leave. We were in this restaurant for over 2 hours and I paid full price for a meal I didnt even eat. Waiter didnt seem to care. I special ordered a chocolate cake for my daughter's birthday. It was to have layers of chocolate mousse and buttercream frosting. It looked beautiful from the outside, but you couldn't even cut it. The cake was so dry it crumbled apart. The buttercream frosting was hard and broke off. The chocolate moose layer was non existent. Nobody ate the cake. My daughter called the next day to explain the situation. To their credit, they tried to make it right and offered another cake. Sadly, it was worse than the first. Finally was able to have breakfast at Buttercloud. I was thoroughly impressed! Every aspect of my visit wasvover the top. I ordered a mocha and a smoked salmon scramble. Both were served very quickly and were delicious.Their famous biscuit was sheer perfection. Family run and everything produced in house. Trying to find good biscuits & gravy at a restaurant is a real challenge! This place is NOT up to the challenge! It's sounded good in the reviews. Black pepper & bacon gravy. So I ordered "The Works" with eggs over medium. $17.50 resulted in one biscuit cut in half with apple wood smoked ham that had the consistency of leather on a biscuit so dense it was a chore to cut! Then my over medium eggs turned out to be sunny side hard. Yeah, sunny side HARD. When I eat biscuits & gravy I like my egg yolks to run down into my gravy. Two bites into this & I was done. The gravy was the worst I have ever eaten at a restaurant. Had a strong burnt flavor. While waiting on my food I had the waitress warm my coffee. It was a mocha that was delivered warm. She brought it back so hot it scalded my mouth. My girlfriend was going to have a biscuit with jam & butter. They had several options non of which she liked, so the waitress tried pushing raspberry on her like a drug dealer with a back log of meth. No strawberry! So she said I'll just have coffee which seemed to offend the waitress who smelled strongly of patchouli oil. Yeah it's an Oregon thing? This restaurant is one of those pretentious new age tree hugger fo-fo salad kind is places. If you're looking for good old fashioned comfort food kind of breakfast DON'T come here! Happened upon this place after another place I was going turned out to be closed. It worked out because the breakfast was good. I had the biscuits and gravy and I like their gravy, instead of sausage they use pepper bacon. It was interesting, different and still tasty though I will say not my preference when I want biscuits and gravy but I liked it. The biscuit was good as wel, warm and buttery. The place was cute and the service was good. I also got a chocolate cinnamon cheesecake to go and it was so good, I love love love cheesecake and this one was rich and decadent. Before I go into detail about the delicious eats (& drinks) I need to share how truly wonderful the people here are. I came in for my first visit straight from a platelets appointment. I must have looked a little on the pale side because the man behind the counter asked if I was ok & without hesitation grabbed me a small plate with mini biscuits on it to hold me over until my friend arrived. The food here is great. It's a lovely breakfast and brunch spot and definitely recommend going if you're in the area. The new space that it's located in is very nice. It's very spacious and there's tons of seating. However, it's a popular place so you might have to wait a little before being seated. The service is good and everyone is friendly. I am commenting about the lemon cake I purchased last Friday for a birthday party the next day, sadly it was so terribly dry we could not serve the rest of it to my guests. I was immediately getting feedback about the dryness as I handed out slices, so stopped serving and collected the remains. I did try a bite from inner part and outer part of the slice, very very dry. This was an important event and I believed I had made the right choice not getting my cake from Costco this year, I only had the mouse pie and lemon bar to serve to those who are not cake fans, nothing else. I used to work in bakery many years ago and we kept tract of how old the pastries were by a dot system, after 3 dots the items were donated. This cake had to have been exposed to air for at-least a week to be this dry. Your other pasties were very fresh tasting, and the gentleman who rang me up was very helpful, but now thinking about the comment he made about putting the cake out of the fridge two hours before serving makes me think the cake had been previously frozen? Either way, I feel some one is not following correct processes to ensure cakes remain fresh. I thought by ordering 5 days before pick up, the cake was actually made fresh for my event. Be sure to arrive with your full party! It wasn't a problem for us, as we, two humans and two dogs traveled together, but it was a theme for others. I love their friendly staff and dog friendly staff and patio. Service was prompt and we had a great meal. I wish I loved the biscuit but flaky biscuit people are what they are and this biscuit wasn't flaky (per design).
