Super disappointed in the food we got yesterday. I ordered a tri tip dip with onion rings. The menus said it came in a hoagie roll. It did not!! It came on what looked like a smashed hot dog bun and only one of the sides had beef. The second side had three little pieces of beef. I had to consolidate into half a sandwich. When the waiter asked how the food was we told him. He said he would get more beef. He then came back and said the cook said no, that the sandwich had 4 oz already!! Yes that's right!! 4 oz and it was super dry. The Au Juo was greasy and no flavor. Oh and the sandwich with totally overcook (frozen to start) onion rings were $21.00. He offer to take of 10%. We won't be back, not even for breakfast. Not the waiters fault but who ever the cook is needs a lesson in how to build a sandwich. I should have sent it back!! Again won't be back. read more

Had to redo my husbands home fries they were raw and cold., hash was burnt, over easy eggs were hard. My order was delivered with Mayo when I asked it to be dry and he put the wrong cheese on it. The food was great but the service was so lacking and almost hostile I'm not sure about going back. We waited 20 min to order. I finally got up and gave our order at the register. No coffee refills. Got 2 pieces of bacon when the menu said 4. It was very good bacon. When Samantha delivered the bacon she slammed it on the table as she walked by. Had to go get the check after eating. Don't you hate it when you don't go somewhere for a long while, then you go back and you realize, oh yes, this sucked last time, and it sucks again this time? Ugh...hate it when my brain forgets like that. But that's the case here. Todays lunch was so bad. I wish I had not come here. Maybe I just keep getting unlucky and choosing the wrong meal? Today I asked the waitress to help me choose something since what I wanted (the chicken pot pie) apparently was sold out...(at 12:30noon? Sheesh, how many did they make, 3?) The onion rings looked great, and there were quite a few on the plate, but each bite squirted greasy oil into my mouth...yes, each and every bite! I've never had onion rings loaded with oil before, it was weird, and did not make me happy. Then the burger, totally pink inside. I do not like my burgers rare, all I could think of was... god help me....e.coli. Barely any grilled onions inside the patty melt, just a sad stingy amount. The reason I even got that burger was I expected lots of grilled onions. Nope. Oh, and it was a greaser too. So, overall this was not in any way a good lunch, I'm sorry I got it. I guess I should have returned it, but something about the waitress made me feel I should keep my mouth shut, I don't know, she kept giving me the stink eye. What a change, took 10 min to order, took 20 min to get 2 sandwiches. waitress never came back...went on to other customers! Had to go to the register after we asked for a check. First time there - today October 16, 2023. Relatively new to Grants Pass and there are way too many marginal restaurants. Saw a few good reviews and decided to try The Depot Eatery. An interesting place, I had passed it a few times as the cleaners I use is nearby. Service is marginal and the food is marginal as well. Simple Depot Hamburger. Wilted lettuce (leaf lettuce - not Iceberg), burger a little too pink for my liking and the French Frys? Right off the low level of the Sysco Food Services truck. This place has potential, but needs folks with smiles on their faces, a little more server interaction when taking an order, and less mechanical. Was expecting "Railroad Fare" but was very disappointed. And the place was freezing! Will more than likely try it one more time. read more

This place was half full for a Sunday and found it surprising how long they took to sit us though we were the only party waiting for a table. Glad we got a booth (they line the the perimeter of the room). Otherwise you sit in long tables. Wow I left a review over 10 years ago. Well we are deep into the time of Covid, times have changed! The service was still good, the place was clean, I ordered breakfast the eggs were over medium and they were perfect, yolk with no runny whites. My only complaint and it can be a big deal for some, I know it is for me: None of the employees were wearing masks, not one, cooks, waitresses, manager, nobody, even though it is mandated for indoor spaces , with that type of disregard for safety I won't be returning until Covid is under control and mandates have been lifted. read more

OF COURSE I had to have the chicken pot pie, which is only served on Weds and Thurs, only during the winter, and is as good as I remembered. It's baked in a shallow pan so there's really no need for a bottom crust. I LOVED all of the creamy gravy, the crust and of course, the chicken. There was so much that this will be my lunch tomorrow. Hubster went for the meat loaf w/ mashed potatoes, brown gravy and glazed carrots. This will also be HIS lunch tomorrow. Everything was sooooo good! Wow! First time for breakfast at The Depot and we will be back. Husband and I shared a veggie omelet with toast and home fries. The omelet was perfect with the perfect amount of cheese (not overly smothered with cheese....just the right amount), and veggies and eggs were fresh and cooked just right. Perfection! The portion of home fries was just right. Our corner booth was perfect, as it was quiet, given the entire place was packed (10:30 on Sunday). Our guests ate the breakfast combo and a tuna melt with onion rings that were SO GOOD (they appeared to be fresh cut onions and fresh batter....so good)! -- The service was excellent, and the pricing very fair. We went in a few years ago. The food was nothing special, no refills on coffee or water were offered. The server never checked on us. The server(s) spent a lot of time chattting with what appeared to be their "regulars." All 3 of us each ate less than half of our meal because because it was not very good. It was obvious that none of us enjoyed our meals but were just given a guest check and not asked about it. I paid promising to never return again. My daughter has since returned and has eaten there several times saying how good the food and service are now . I finally decided to give them another chance. I entered and was prompltly greeted and seated in a nice booth. I wasn't given a menu, water or spoken to after that. A family was seated after me, given menus and asked if they wanted orange juice or coffee. I waited 9 minutes, got up and left. Oh well, I guess I will never know if the food is better now or not. Nice little place... You don't know it unless your a local... It is not close to the free way, and is on a one way street heading south. It is a strange combination of breakfast and lunch foods, with beer on tap, and a TV. Yet it is one big open room of tables and booths. The staff is very nice, they are true hospitality people, always smiling and friendly. I had the eggs, toast and hash browns for a very low 7.95. Pretty reasonable for a diner with full service. Mich better than the chain breakfast places. The sourdough was perfect, melted butter, great. I know, I'm getting excited over toast, but yea it was good. read more

Update: My husband had tasted my meatloaf, with that amazing bourbon type sauce it's cooked in, and wanted some. It was just as good as the previous time. Plus, the candied carrots were incredibly tasty and the twice baked potato had even more bacon and green onion! I had the clam chowder this time and it was better than Ivar's. Really! Full of clams, bacon and not the typical bland potato filled clam chowder so many serve. So for under $30, we had dinner, with soup or salad and drinks. We have been here for breakfast and enjoyed our meal, however, today was quite a disappointing dining experience. Our lunch was mediocre and the service not much better. But the reason for my bad review was yet to come. As we were eating, the cook came out from the kitchen to the dining room to speak to a waitperson. It was then we were unfortunately, and disturbingly, exposed to his falling down pants and there's no polite way to put this...his very visible BUTT CRACK. DUDE...get some suspenders!!! This along with a table of diners with 2 dogs. One was huge! And the smaller one was all over the place as they walked out of the restaurant. No matter what these people claimed when they came in, they were not service dogs. We will not be back. read more

In my expert breakfast opinion, one of the best breakfast plates is French toast with eggs and sausage. Many restaurants don't realize that all three go together and should be served together all the time. The Train Depot is one of those rare restaurants that has the French toast combo on the menu. I am by far not a picky person nor a "Karen" but this was by far the worst dinner I have had. The place was practically empty and I expected food in a timely manner. Unfortunately it took forever to get our food and we were shocked by how the food looked and the proportions were. I ordered a pot roast for 15 dollars and it was bland and mushy, the gravy was congealed and bland. You can definitely tell that the food was sitting in hot pans and not freshly cooked. The other person I was with ordered a steak. It was comical on how small the steak was and placed with mashed potatoes. It looked like it was meant for a small child. The waitress also couldn't remember to bring us simple things like soda or dipping sauce despite the fact that there were only two other people in the restaurant. It was also unprofessional on how she reacted to our displacement about our food. Overall it was definitely not worth $50.02 dollars I would have been more happy going to a fast food joint knowing I would get more food out of a kids meal then a $15 plate of steak or roast beef.
