Their classic American diner offerings are very good and consistent with generous portions and fresh ingredients. We often go for their crave-worthy Graham Cracker and Coconut-crusted French toast, and Bacon always cooked nice and crisp. We also love the Chicken BLAT, and Fresh Fruit plate stands out with prettily arranged trio of what's in season: strawberries, pineapple, oranges, kiwi or melon. Staff are friendly and take good care of customers except one server, Ruth, who never checks back to see if orders are okay and says refilling coffee is not her job. The Real Deal? Not Quite. I've been to cafés and diners all over the country, and when a place claims to serve "the best," it should at least come close. Sadly, The Real Deal missed the mark. The "Best" chicken fried steak was dry, chewy, and lacked ANY seasoning--completely underwhelming. While the staff was kind at first, things changed the moment I offered polite, constructive feedback. As I respectfully shared my thoughts, the server clearing my plate literally walked away mid-sentence saying she will say something g to the chef. That kind of dismissal speaks volumes. I might've given a higher rating if they'd shown some humility and care. But when ego stands behind poor quality, everyone loses. Overpriced and underdelivered--there are better spots out there. Boy, this place is the read deal!!! Old school diner...full of locals! This place is off the beaten path and just a hidden gem that serves homestyle cooking! I was getting ready to leave Medford but needed some serious breakfast. I ordered Those Potatoes since it was a house specialty. Nice crispy bacon and home style potatoes with cheddar cheese! Medford OR. Server was incredibly friendly New place for me and CFS is my go to for breakfast. I always ask if it's breaded in house. A Yes then I order it, a No then I don't. It's that simple. Nice sized portion with eggs and browns, toast too. I really enjoyed the thickness and flavor. I would like a little more gravy though. Maybe because it's so good. We visited the Real Deal for brunch and sat at the bar because the place was packed. That's a great sign! The owners work the restaurant themselves with an efficient crew of employees. This restaurant is called the real deal because it is. I had breakfast here and I ordered the Eggs Benedict . We sat outside and it was a nice morning. The waiter was great and the service from the other waitresses were very good. The Eggs Benedict were very good. I had the home fries with them. The Eggs Benedict had a big slide of ham on them and the hollandais sauce is good. Hollandais is a very hard sauce to make,so most restaurants have okay hollandais sauce. The restaurant has a great feeling to it . I'll be back to try other items off the menu. read more

Best breakfast in town! Always friendly staff. Quick service. Fresh orange juice and free refills. Great chorizo scramble! Delicious French toast with the option of regular or Marionberry syrup. I'm not sure where they buy their bacon, but it is the best bacon I have had at ANY restaurant in Southern Oregon!!! They are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. read more

This was my third time here and still I find myself amazed at the variety of distinct menu items that sound really good to me for a roadside diner in a small city running parallel to an interstate in southern Oregon. I was craving some French toast, and the French toast menu item comes in a two slice order or three slices order, and I went for the full shebang, the real McCoy. I ordered two eggs on the side from the à-la-carte section and together it all completed quite an entrée as a combination. They serve two syrups with the FT, marionberry and maple. Can't go wrong with either. I think I found my favorite custom combo here, folks. My friend enjoyed a chicken fried steak and both the steak, and the chosen side of cubed potatoes were delectable. I must note the potatoes held their own as I tried them as the portion was generous, and were well seasoned, not oily at all, chopped small, so you're not showing a quarter of a potato into your esophagus. Can't wait to go back here on another Sunday casual breakfast run. Sat at the counter for the first time this week and enjoyed it, enough elbow room for all. read more

Best breakfast cafe in Oregon! Breakfast wad so good, fresh, and yummy! We were traveling through Medford, to the coast. This breakfast, atmosphere, snd staff, snd were so good that to we came back on our way home. Tana is a professional in the way she serves people! Her attitude appears genuine and she seems to really enjoy people. So, between perfectly prepared food (light and not greasy) and the warm, friendly service, it is the perfect choice, hands down. We had the oatmeal (don't turn down the orange-maple butter), a blueberry pancake, and the veggie omelet (light and fresh, not runny but perfectly cooked) with hash browns and English muffin. The serving size is Oregon large and cooked perfectly. Tana was so gracious to fill our water bottles with ice water. We will definitely return next time we are in the area. read more

I wanted to love this place but the food was just not good. The service and atmosphere are great! The homemade biscuits were doughy and unsalted...the "homemade" butter was bland and again no salt. The country fried steak was waaayyyyy over cooked, tough to eat...the kids scrambled eggs were way over cooked and the thing that I was most excited about was the French press coffee. Burnt cold food, RUDE waitstaff, and then overcharged on a had written ticket. When you politely ask for it to be fixed, you get told "I have worked here 32 years, I know what I am doing, if you don't like it the you can go somewhere else" I showed the menu price and still was told I was wrong. Happened more then once. I paid exactly what the bill should have been according to the menu pricing in cash this time and was told not to come back. Apparently they don't want customers at this restaurant. Also have been very non compliant with disabilities, allergies and food handling. The diner was incredibly busy when we arrived this Sunday morning, but our party of 8 was greeted and seated in less than a minute (without exaggeration). They brought us all waters about 30 seconds after our request, and our coffees and waters never ran low. Someone was always checking in on us and improving our experience. I eat out all the time and try many different restaurants. Most places are not memorable, but I was so chirpy and happy after my meal here today. I'm taking the time to write this review because this place deserves the recognition. The service was remarkable; the whole staff seemed to take great care in what they do and were so friendly. The food came out quickly, and the plating and quality was notable. The turkey pesto was such a flavorful sandwich, and the beef soup today was incredible and refreshing. In the past, I have never really taken to diner coffee enough to ask for a refill. I just chug it to get the job done, but I had two refills because it wasn't burnt, bitter or acidic. It tasted clean. It tasted like it should. The restroom was clean, and the diner interior felt warm and inviting overall. I wish we had a place like this in LA. Being from out of town, I can't say this is the best breakfast in town, but I can say when I come to Medford, this is now the only breakfast spot I'll be eating at. I love this place! They have such good breakfast that tastes fresh and not like it's been sitting in a freezer. It's not greasy and it tastes homemade! The Eggs Benedict is my favorite. I forgot to take a picture because once it's in front of you all you want to do is eat it! Found on accident, best accident! I can't say enough about the staff and how friendly and welcoming they were! They had a lot of locals in when I was there, but they treated me as if I was a local and had been coming there for years as well. Our waitress was cheery, delightful and made my morning! Went with the whole family. Kids are adults, and they're not getting any younger, but that's the only thing that made the $61 tab bearable for four breakfasts. I got the veggie omlet with hash browns and a biscuit. The only thing I didn't like was the canned mushrooms in my omlet, and the biscuit was kind of dry and crumbly. Water. My companion got the Denver omlet with hash browns and a biscuit. They added gravy for $1.50. What a waste of a biscuit and $1.50. Gravy tastes like it's out of a can or powdered. Unpalatable. Didn't finish the omlet, tasted "off". Iced tea, no refills. Child One got Those potatoes, scrambled eggs and wheat toast. Got a stomache ache. Sierra Mist, no refills. Child Two got a Swiss, spinach, avocado omlet, hash browns and biscuit. They saved the biscuit for their SO, but scarfed the rest. Hot chocolate. Service was OK. This was our second time there. First time was Sunday at 11am, standing room only. Got there at a little after 8 this Sunday, straight to a Booth. REALLY COLD IN THE ENTIRE RESTAURANT. Kept hoping the heater would kick on, but never did. Two of us chattered the entire time we were there. read more

My father and I went here today, January 31st, for lunch and the food was great. My father talks about this place constantly and I was very excited to try it out! I walked in, and was greeted by a friendly waitress, who told me I could sit wherever I pleased, so I took a seat and waited for my father to join me. My father walks in and I wave him over, and after he takes a seat, the same waitress from earlier brings him a cup of coffee and politely asks me how my cancer treatments are going. Since my father comes here regularly and knows the staff well, he had spoken to the waitress previously about my ongoing health issues, so I was happy to tell her that my cancer treatments were going well, and that I was getting better every day. My father ordered eggs, sausage, hash browns, and a pancake. I ordered the Reuben. The dressing, I believe was supposed to come on the side; but they may have forgotten it...it's okay, because I used some of the amazing fry sauce on my sandwich. Yummy!!!
