My family and I truly enjoy coming here, whether it's after church, for a special occasion, or simply because we're in the mood for a great meal. I personally love their bread pudding! it's one of my favorites. The atmosphere is always calm and welcoming, and the waitstaff are consistently friendly and attentive. While there can sometimes be longer wait times, it's understandable given that the restaurant offers such delicious and unique meals. On occasions when the wait is around 30 minutes, we may choose to try another place that day and simply come back another time. Overall, we genuinely enjoy this restaurant and will definitely continue coming back ;) . read more

8/13/2025: Our first time trying Black Bear Diner. I'm so glad that we decided to check them out in spite of negative reviews we've seen, because we are pleasantly surprised! I had fasted labs done in the late morning, so hubby and I thought it would be nice to go out for a late breakfast. We were greeted as soon as we walked in the doors and seated right away. Before leaving the table, our server asked what we would like drink while we look over the menu. Very efficient! We decided to share the Big Bacon Breakfast because.. who could eat that all alone? Thank goodness we shared because when the plates came out, we were shocked! We still had leftovers to take home. The bacon was delicious, the cat head biscuit (IYKYK) with southern sausage gravy hit the spot, the hash browns were golden brown and the eggs were perfect with runny yolks! The decor inside was cute. They've remodeled the former Souplantation and made it their own!The motif is adorable but not overbearing (see what I did there? ) I'd go back, but not without someone to share a meal. Arlinda is a terrible server. She was slow to seat us, slow to bring a straw for the orange juice, slow to bring more coffee creamer. Slow to bring the toast she dropped (the replacement toast was cold). How hard is it to go to the server station and grab what the customer needs and bring it right back? Food wise, it wasn't bad for a chain restaurant. My chicken fried steak was hot. The gravy a little bland. The home fries were good. My daughter bear pancake was way smaller than what we thought. And $3.99 for a kids 6oz orange juice....ridiculous. As for the resultant itself, it's decorated nicely with lots of earth tones. You can tell that it is very Bear forward. Seems like this place has gone down hill. When it first opened everything was fine, my last visit with horrible. I thought it was a joke. As we are being sat the waitress says, " we dont have bacon, fries, chicken tenders" and walks off. Okay, that was random. The restaurant was damn there empty aside from about five tables but it takes our waitress over 15 minutes to greet us. We order our food and our drinks take another 15 minutes to come! I watch her serve drinks to family who just arrived while I am still waiting on a tea. Everything she provided us was DIRTY! The cups had hard food on the inside, food on the outside, the straws were delivered wet with food on it. The utensils had dried food on it. I tell her my cup is dirty and she says really and looks inside. I receive my tea and inside the cup is dirty again! Just keep it. My food finally arrives to the table, a egg scramble, and it appears to be wet. The waitress says they can cook it longer. It came back 5 minutes later looking exactly the same. I taste the eggs and they don't taste real. Perhaps powder eggs but there is a puddle of grease underneath. I ask the waitress what kind of eggs did they use to make this and she said "liquid eggs". She said they use regular eggs per request.... Wow, yeah, no, take all of this back. No thanks. Maybe its this location, but until things change. I'm out. read more

We are regular customers and are somewhat dismayed at the lack of servers each time we dine here. We are currently sitting at the Palmdale location at 9:15am. Breakfast is in full swing with approximately 15 booths filled. Are waitress told us she's the only one working today. The Food: Sadly the Food quality was not great, especially for the prices. Pancakes: They were bland and perhaps the flour was missing oil and a pinch of salt. They were dry and flourish. Syrup was thin and liquidity. Chicken Fried Steak: The pattie was very light compared to other's I've had. It wasn't bad at all. The gravy had a nice light flavor to it as well. Two people could share as the portion size was truly a Big Bear. Country Potatoes: They were almost perfectly except for the part where some of the potatoes were well done and crunchy inside. But they were still good. Eggs were typical...No complaints Fish and Chips: Fish was terrible. No flavor and like rubber inside. Definitely fresh out a deep freezer and the grease may have been too hot for the fish to cook properly. Very BLAND indeeded. The Fries were typical ... perhaps a little overcooked. I got broccoli instead of Slaw; it was typical. The Tarter was perhaps missing Dill and Pickle. Coffee was good. Pepsi was a little flat to taste but okay I guess. I really had high hopes for this place but sadly the only reason we would visit again was to have Brianna service us. She was truly amazing. As everyone knows, food isn't cheap these days. So when we decide to go out or order takeout it is a big deal to spend $50+ on a meal. The bacon we received was unacceptable. I've never in my life seen bacon served like this nor when I've eaten at any black bear diners. The last time I sat down at this location, they were also understaffed and the location is no longer clean like when they opened. This place has gone down hill fast. So sad. read more

Been just handful of times. Every single time something was unsatisfactory with our meal. No more. Server doesn't ask how the food was as if they know it's been a problem. Nor the cashier. We were really disappointed tonight. I suggested we come, and ended up just apologizing the whole way home. We had 2 orders of the chicken wraps and 2 orders of the Friday "all-you-can-eat" fish fry platters. The fish fry platters were soo disappointing for $19.99. It was Friday so supposed to be all you can eat, we got one single fish strip on the first dish, and a fish strip cut in half for any additional order . The platter in the picture had at least 2 fish strips, yes STRIPS, and we didn't even get the full two until we asked for more fish. I added the picture, literally one fish strip cut in half for our order of more. I'm sorry but for $20 and no hush puppies, we should at least gotten 2 full ones before having to ask for more. We sat with our dirty dishes and empty beverage cups most of the night and there were literally crumbs in my wine. Again, very disappointed. The guy who checked us out and sat us was very nice. French toast, 2 eggs and 2 pieces of Bacon. It was okay. French toast was dry and there's not enough powdered sugar on top. Bacon wasn't the thick - sliced one. My scrambled eggs were cold too. My SO ordered the MEATLOAF with veggies and mashed potatoes. According to him he has tasted better. We expected a mix of vegetables but it was only broccoli - the menu was misleading. Went in for lunch and I had such a wonderful experience thanks to my waitress, Naomi. From the moment I sat down, she was warm, welcoming, and attentive without ever being overbearing. She refilled my drink right on time and checking in just enough to make sure everything was perfect. Rosie whom I believe is the manager, made the whole dining experience so enjoyable. Visited on December 24th. It was my first time eating here. The interior was nice, well maintained, lots of opened space, and a lot of souvenirs for sale as you walk in. The place wasn't packed at all, there was maybe 6 other small parties in the entire restaurant. Well, right of the bat: Server named Kat came off as rude as if she wasn't having a good day. Asked for two waters one with ice and one without. She brought both without, wife said hers was with ice. The server says " I'll just bring you some ice". Like really? Lady, be logical, if you're going BACK to get ice why not just get another cup with ice and fill it with water? It seemed as if she was the only server and also the cashier. That's a lot of work. No wonder she was in a pissed mood. Ordered two cheese burgers with fries and a grilled cheese with fries and mac n cheese. It took a while for the food to arrive despite the place being very slow. When the food did arrive, it wasn't great. My daughter did not like her grilled cheese, said the cheese tasted odd. I took a small bite of it and yeah, it tasted like Velveeta, it was just an off taste about it. My wife fries more than likely had be REFRIED because hers were darker than the fries I received, tasted burnt, tasted overly greasy, and hard. My fries also were a lighter shade than hers. My wife's burger was horrible, it was falling apart. The bun seemed old, not keeping it's shape. She resorted to eating it with a fork and knife. My burger was TOUGH and DRY. It was hard to bite and chew. It was VERY over cooked. My jaw was actually experiencing fatigue eating this tough ass burger. They gave me like 12 fries with it was well. I don't know WTF was wrong with their cook(s). The macaroni and cheese wasn't great. It was thick and bland. In fact, I think it was box mac and cheese. Wasn't worth the money. We waited for the server come back which took time. We were ready to go and we were VERY disappointed with the food and it's staff. We were even more disappointed because that was our first meal of the day as we were shopping around. I won't be back. If a restaurant can't cook a SIMPLE burger correctly you've lost my business. If a restaurant can't cook a burger, the other menu items are probably piss poor. read more
