1/5 - Very Disappointing Experience We ordered breakfast online from the Visalia location while on vacation and picked it up on 10/18. Unfortunately, my experience was not great. We ordered the family-size coffee traveler (around $19), but the manager refused to provide enough creamer and gave me no cups. They also couldn't find the carton carrier and initially wanted to just hand me four separate cups of coffee instead. I ended up waiting so long for them to locate the carrier that my food was cold by the time I left. Overall, the service and food quality were disappointing. Don't know how good they are for lunch or dinner but their breakfast is bomb!! I wasn't expecting much from a diner... usually what you'll get at most American diners is a lousy cold or warm breakfast but to my surprise they brought me out a huge plate and it was super hot! Furthermore, they brought out my food in about 5 minutes. Very happy with the food and the service. The waitress greeted me when I walked in and was all smiles and kind. I had just came from that Grannys café and had walked out because the waitress there was so rude and unwelcoming when I sat down and tried to order. Black Bear Diner on Friday's now has all you can eat Fried Fish. Sounds delicious, except they use Polluck. Not Delicious Alaskan Cod. Polluck is what Mc Donald's uses. There is a huge quantity in our oceans and a cheaper fish. Doesn't have a lot of flavor. read more

Thursday 4:00pm Met a friend mostly for chatting and decided to order a dessert too. Oh boy, why did I order bread pudding?! It was the most enormous piece of bread pudding I have ever seen. And then I made the mistake of agreeing to the "a la mode." What was I thinking?! My girlfriend ordered the fruit cobbler which was also enormous. Delicious, but enormous. Stumbled upon this diner on the way home from a road trip and it was exactly what we needed. Their roasted turkey was good and filling; enough to give us the boost to push through the remaining couple hours drive home. The vegetables were a bit bland but I will eat anything while we are away from the big city. Their cornbread muffins that are included with a dinner entree was absolutely scrumptious though. One of the better Black Bear Diners we have visited. The wife and I met some friends here on way back home, and although getting inside this place rivals solving the riddle of the Sphinx, we did get in and found seating in time for our meeting. Why do I keep coming back to this place? Ok let's start with a positive comment. My eggs were cooked to my liking. Better than last time. I sat on the other end of this place near the restrooms & away from the kitchen heat & all the Kling-klang bang from the bus/prepping station. Last time I asked to be seated in a quieter section & the hostess sat me next to that place. That is the antithesis of my request. Back to today. Got seated right away to a place I wanted to sit. My table & sugar basket-completely sticky. The young guy who seated me got me my water & coffee right away. I saw that they had WiFi so I asked if it was free. Young guy said, 'No, we don't have the password.' He went above & beyond to check & to get my creamer. Ok this guy must have gotten sidetracked because 5 min went by & I had to stop him & ask, 'Where's that French Vanilla creamer.' I saw the lightbulb go on above his head & he brought it to me along with the password answer. 'No one knows the password but the owner.' Got it, the owner is cheap. I get it, he must not want the employees to work vs. being on the phone all shift, but my question is this, 'How can you be across from a college & not offer internet?' Are you stuck in 1985? Oh I get it you must want me to eat my food & go. Trust me that was the theme today. When I went wash my hands of the stickiness before eating, I noticed something while I was eating. . . my ice water was gone. My server was whizzing back & forth & she dropped off my check when I asked her 'What happens to my water?' She said oh did you want one? I said No I already had one, it's gone.' She backtracked and said I don't know what happened, I didn't take it. I have a feeling I know what happened. When I got up to wash my hands, I took my purse & jacket w/ me because that's the smart thing to do, right? You can't leave your jacket or purse at the table anymore because someone will swipe your things. So I'm assuming someone, an employee thought I was gone & started bussing the table before he/she realized my coffee was hot & full. Yah, I wasn't too happy about that. A glass of water is needed when eating a thicka$$ waffle. My meal wasn't even picture worthy. SMH read more
