Great food served in large portions. Cornbread muffins and biscuits amazing. Chicken fried steak was yummy and enough for two. Fried fish all you can eat was good too. Prices are very reasonable. Bring a big appetite and plan on taking home a doggy bag! So glad we tried it. read more

This restaurant is nice and clean atmosphere. But the young man, Ryan who waited on us twice now , is not attentive at all. We ended up walking out Because we couldn't get his attention. The food was cold. My soup had to be reheated in the microwave and then it came back with soggy crackers in it. Then they gave me steak surf and turf and it was not hot. I didn't get any cocktail sauce for the shrimp. We couldn't find him to get any cocktail sauce. The shrimp was cold. The steak was subpar. My husband got the cod, fish and chips and it looks like frozen cod from the grocery store. He also couldn't find Ryan to get tartar sauce for his fish and chips. He found a manager and the manager never got Ryan or sent him over to our table. We finally walked out.. The waiter is very uncaring about doing a good job. He forgot to give me my soup in the beginning. Then it came cold and I had to get it reheated. This is the third time we have tried to go to this restaurant and it's the 2nd time we've walked out unhappy. We will not be back read more

The restaurant was very inviting. It was comfortable and fun. The staff was very friendly even though they were very busy. The food was very good with ample portions. A good value for a great comfort food. Lots of good choices that could be customized for your cravings. The coffee was fresh and tasted good. This will be our new breakfast stop! read more

The food is usually good and service had been good until lately...now it seems like the kitchen is very disorganized, we got food for one person in our party and waited and waited for the rest of our food while 2 other parties who got there after us got their food (although I noticed they got incomplete and incorrect orders as well) we also got coffee we did not ask for and incomplete silverware. We also saw food sitting under heat lamps for a really long time and waitresses running around confused. Hopefully whoever the manager is gets things organized. read more

Stopped by on Sunday afternoon after select baseball tournament with my great niece, great great niece & great great nephew (who had been playing baseball) & said he wasn't hungry. We have eaten here numerous times & never really been disappointed--we even had Santa visit with us during the holidays in the past. Vanessa was our waitress today & that is what this review is all about! She was EXCELLENT- very very attentive & was even calling Weston by his name after a few minutes! Whatever we asked for, she was sure to make it happen - with a smile on her face - wanting to make sure we were taken care of. Kids adding macaroni & cheese order to the meals they had just finished - then topping it off with ice cream for 1 & pumpkin cheesecake with caramel sauce for Weston (who, remember wasn't even hungry! I love Black Bear Diner; I grew up on it and it never got old on me. The Eggs Benedict is my favorite thing on the menu, it has such great flavor, and the crunch in the English muffin if perfect. There employes are very nice and patient they get your food out fast, when it's not a Saturday morning. The atmosphere is chill, and all the picture makes you feel like you're in the mountains. I visited the Black Bear Dinner today and while we waited to be seated I got to shop their extensive options of Black bear souvenirs from stuff animals to mugs to house shoes. Staff was prompt and friendly and had good recommendations. I even had the Manger Cynthia stop by to make sure we were well taken care of. I had the chicken fried steak with gravy, coles slaw and mash but couldn't leave w/o having of their delicious hot biscuits so I had to order one on the side. Waited 20 minutes to be seated which is understandable being 9am on a holiday. Looked over the menu and decided on what we were going to ordered only to find out they are out of biscuits and it would be 30 minutes before they have any ready. I am at a loss for words on how a place know for their biscuits would run out at 9:30am in the morning and oh why it would be 30 minutes before more were available. I ate there today, the 25th and I had the Bear's Choice Breakfast. I chose eggs over easy, ham and waffles. The food was tasty. The only complaint I had was that I had to go looking for a waiter to get a refill on my water. I will definitely will eat there again. read more

The ambience was very casual and relaxing. Went at the perfect time so there was no wait. The service was 5 Star. He was very kind, friendly, and knowledgeable about the questions we asked about the menu and about the restaurant as a whole. The food was absolutely excellent. My wife had one of the tastiest omelette we have had in a long time from a casual restaurant. I had the Italian sausage, the signature pancakes and hash browns and oh my was I pleased. We have been waiting to e at here since they opened, ordered burgers with fries, they sat in the window a good ten minutes, my husband got up to go get them and then a server said I 'll get them after several severs walked by the food window. The food was cold and not served the way we asked, I wanted no onion & lettuce and receive both. The floors were filthy and tables were dirty, there were maybe 5 tables total eating so being busy was not the issue. Servers were just standing around instead of cleaning the place up. Every time we go past this place, it's packed. We decided to give it a try. The hostess told us it would be a 20-25 minute wait. The waiting area was very small and packed, so we went outside. After 35 minutes, I received a text telling me our table was ready. We were seated and then had to wait quite a bit before someone came by to ask for our drink and food order. My husband got the dinner country fried steak with grilled vegetables, and I got the breakfast country fried steak with scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, and a biscuit. Our son got chocolate chip pancakes. Considering how busy the place was and how long we had to wait, I expected this to be one of the best places I'd ever eaten at. I wanted to like this place, but I didn't. The food was mediocre and not even close to living up to the hype. The country fried steak was okay, the hashbrowns weren't great, the eggs were barely done, and the giant biscuit was cold, old, and flavorless. I didn't finish my food but after reading the other reviews, I thought I would try the chocolate cream pie. I'm fairly certain they took a Marie Callendar's pie and just put it in a box, then overcharged me for it. Including the wait, we were there for an hour and a half, and it was not worth it. They give good sized portions for what you pay but considering the quality of the food, I'd rather go to Cracker Barrel because the service and the food is better than what I had yesterday, and it wouldn't have cost us $47 to eat there. We won't be going back. I have no idea what everyone is raving about. It was overhyped and underwhelming. However, I will say our server was great. She knew our food would take a bit, so she put in our son's order to be ready first because she could tell he has autism and didn't want him to have to wait. read more

The food was good , although we didn't receive one of the meals because the kitchen didn't make it. the waiter came back to tell us that he let the kitchen know several times about the missing plate and they were not going to make the meal. Very disappointed. When we first arrived, no one was working the front area. We waited over 5 minutes for someone to seat us. I finally walked back to the kitchen area to find an employee. She said 'just sit anywhere'. Should have recognized this red flag. After a few minutes a harried waitress took our orders. Our experience did not get any better. The food came out immediately. My meatloaf was dried out, cold and crusty. The gravy was actually congealed on the plate. My wife's Mac and cheese was cold. Her chicken fingers were also cold, dried out and hard. I should have been suspicious when the food came out so fast after we ordered. It had obviously been sitting on the kitchen counter for some time, perhaps the original customers got fed up and left. We should have sent the food back but we just took it in to-go containers just to be done. Either way, that is the last time we will eat here. Don't waste your money on sub-par food. read more

We were missing part of our order. My wife's biscuit was missing and my hash browns were also missing, which I paid for separately. Wonderful meal this evening at Black Bear Diner Waco. Last visit my 2 go order was missing 2 items. Manager on duty Stephanie made sure we received our missing 2 items this evening plus extras. Portion size is excellent and more importantly the food was excellent. I like that you can order breakfast all day. We will be back again. read more
