Chicken Fried Steak with White Gravy was freshly made / hot and well seasoned
    Joseph A.

Saturday / Sunday back to back visits. Saturday order Chicken Fried Steak with white gravy sides mashed potato and green beans with a salad and muffin which was freshly made, and tasty. Server was highly engaged, she made sure to stand in front of me providing eye contact when communicating. Sunday order was the Meatloaf with brown gravy sides mashed potato and onion rings with salad and muffin. Meatloaf and brown gravy tasted like it had been made early in the week, and was cold / congealed and had an unpleasant texture. Onion rings were hot and fresh. Server had to be reminded to bring the cornbread muffin and utensils. Server was pleasant but seemed distracted. As for my dinning partners, the had they Reuben that was generous with meat, and a Breakfast spread of Eggs, Blueberry Pancakes, and Pattie Sausage that looked good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a nice space, with Black Bear decorations, and memorabilia, but I would stick to food items that need to be freshly made and avoid selections typically found at a carving station.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

This restaurant was ok, the food was ok, I would consider coming back. I got the fried chicken and it was not good fried chicken, the potatoes were ok and the Cole slaw was decent just a little dry. The chicken crust was really thick and over fried. The cobbler and ice cream was ok. Everything about the food was just ok. The waitress was great and very nice. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I feel like this place is more of a tourist place as it is a neat restaurant and has a gift shop up front.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's worth going to once and maybe you will have a different experience.

It's actually a really cool place. The menu is like an ole newspaper and has so many options. The waitress were friendly and us out a lot. They were also very quick with the food and came out fresh. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere was like a step back in time with a diner and a woodsy twist which was pretty cool.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Passing thru, found this place on Trip Advisor. I arrived shortly after 9am and selected a seat at the counter barstools, by the kitchen. I came for breakfast and was gifted an amazing show of teamwork and efficiency, while waiting for my order. The coffee and water started my amazing experience with Missy and her unbelievable energy and perpetual motion. She took my order of Beats Choice with scrambled eggs, ham slice and two biscuits and gravy, the second I was ready, after seeing an amazing list of selections on the menu. As I sipped my coffee and drank water, Missy and her teammates were in constant motion, delivering drinks and plates, that were flying out of the kicked about every 15 seconds. What an amazing and encouraging display of layout, efficient practices and motivated team members! I sat there in amazement as I enjoyed all the food, but the people and the attitudes and "dance" they demonstrated was a welcome surprise. The biscuits were 3 inches wide and 3 inches tall, covered in cream gravy. The eggs were real and soft and flavorful. I finished it off with a glass of fresh-squeezed orange juice and a renewed appreciation for a well-managed operation with smiling happy people, who work their butts of to serve customers, every single minute. As Missy told me, "every second counts." Wise words for us all. Be like Missy! I NEVER saw a single time where wait staff was talking to each other or "resting." The only spoke in terms of "l got you, I need a plate of, etc." In Will she back, but will never forget my first experience at the Black Bear Diner!" They should take a film crew there to teach the world how work was done in the past and is still done at Black Bear Diner. I am going to include my experience in an upcoming book on leadership and foundations of long term success. Until then, you should visit the Black Bear Diner in Waco, Texas. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, they all come with a show if you take a seat at the bar stool counter. Tell Missy KMart, sent you!

I have been wanting to come here for years so you can imagine my excitement when I called to make…read morereservations about a month in advance and they were able to fit our large party in! They have a designated parking lot making it super easy to visit here. They brought us to our table right away, which was this beautiful large family table set in its own alcove, so it felt very special and away from the main hustle and bustle of the restaurant. The vibe was like a modern upgraded diner. I had struggled deciding between going at brunch time or for the dinner menu, but I am super happy that we decided to do brunch because we got to enjoy the famous Jo's Buttermilk Biscuits with the flight of butters. All of the butter was great, but I especially loved the blackberry butter. The biscuits were so good though, that you didn't even need butter at all, they were just so light and fluffy. Not dry like your typical biscuit that you'd get at any other restaurant! For the main meal, I picked the crunchy French toast, which was perfectly crispy on the outside but nice and custardy on the inside. I love the use of the cornflake cereal on the outside, I don't think I can go back to any regular French toast after that! They have some seasonal drinks available, so make sure you ask your server. On our particular visit, we tried the 1905 latte which had a toasted marshmallow syrup inside and surprisingly was not too sweet despite being marshmallow. The restaurant is connected to the little merch area/market where you can buy a lot of of the Magnolia merch if you can't make it over to the Silos. The decor and feel inside is so beautiful, as expected if you're familiar with Joanna's work! What a treat to be able to visit here and may they last for a long time!

I don't do many reviews but this was such a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT…read more First it seems they don't seat 3 at a 4 top. We were offered counter seats and there were numerous 4 tops that remained empty the entire time we were there. Secondly food was mediocre. I got Jo's chicken salad sandwich. Ugh tasted like it came straight out of a can. Bland, definitely not anything special unless you like bland chicken meat. Will not return.

We were greeted as soon as we walked in and directed to choose a table of our preference. The waitress quickly came over and grabbed our drink order while we looked at the menu. We placed our order and the waitress was very knowledgeable and able to answer our questions. She also informed us they work as a team so we can stop anyone when/if we need something. We started with the "Burning Bush" appetizer (crispy Brussel sprouts w/ lemon garlic aioli). YUM! They had just the right bite to them, and the glaze on them paired with the aioli was delicious! For our entrees we had the Golden Calf Burger w/ sweet potato fries and sriracha aioli and The Weight of Glory Sandwich w/ broccoli slaw. They were both incredibly flavorful and fresh! You can tell they locally source their ingredients and prepare them onsite. The portions are also plentiful, and we left with a takeout box. To round off lunch we tried the special mousse on the specials board (coffee flavored cheesecake mousse). It was so delightful we dug in before I could snap a pic. Just enough coffee flavor paired with chocolate sauce (not hersheys ). The big windows allow for a lot of natural light and lends to a welcoming and warm environment. We will for sure be back and bring others!

Ever since leaving and moving to Austin area, I've longed for my gumbo, crawfish and even down home red beans and rice. Well, until now!! We just randomly decided on seafood while in Waco, and lemme tell yall. This place will not disappoint!! I had a bowl of probably the top 10 best I've ever had!! (Sorry mom), and also the red beans and ohhhh my lawd!!!! The atmosphere when you walked in let you know this was gonna be a good meal. The decor, and even almost entire wall with prices and the daily specials written on it. The waitress tried to tell us about it, and I'm pretty sure the wife was paying attention, but I already had my stomach setting up to receive gumbo. Multiple waitstaff stopped by to check on us throughout the meal, and all were very friendly! Serving sizes to make you loosen a belt notch to be able to breathe!! Wife had the fish and chips and couldn't eat the fries! That all said, I also found out that gumbo and beans and rice were made from scratch DAILY, and not that prepared stuff you get at some places!! Stop and be ready to Laissez les bons temps rouler!!

Thankfully, Yelp absolutely came through clutch (as it usually does) and led us to Our Breakfast Place. We intentionally tried to time things to beat the post-church crowd and I think we mostly succeeded... though there was still a little bit of a wait. Thankfully, this place is absolutely worth the wait! The restaurant was bustling and busy but still had a welcoming, comfortable atmosphere. The menu was extensive with tons of tempting breakfast options, the prices were very reasonable to me, and the service was excellent from start to finish. Our waitress was so kind and friendly and even the women seated nearby struck up conversation with us while we waited for our food. It just had that warm, community-oriented breakfast spot vibe. I ordered the blueberry lemon pancakes which were a seasonal special and wow, they were fantastic. Sweet but not overly so, fluffy, flavorful, and the combo also came with an egg and I chose two slices of bacon. All delicious and certainly plenty filling. The coffee was strong too, which I greatly appreciated. All in all, this was a five-star breakfast experience and the kind of local spot I love discovering while traveling. If I'm ever back in Waco, I'd happily return.

It was just enough since I cutting back, you may need regular portion for a big appetite. Overall it was decent. The food came out quickly and the price was good. I forgot to take pics.
