Food is always good. Pancakes, coffee, and eggs benedict for sure. I only go for breakfast so not sure about lunch or dinner items.

Oh boy, where do I start... Our visit here was hilariously bad. I read reviews before coming with a party of 6 (me included), so my expectations were low, but Black Bear Diner managed to exceed my expectations in a bad way. We waited 45 minutes to be seated. Our host was a bigger man who seemed to be sweating a lot, and he seemed nice and all but the first thing he did was grab a pile of silverware with his bare hands and literally throw them down on our table. It shocked all of us. Then he grabbed each piece and haphazardly arranged it on our napkins, and walked away. The silverware had smudges and hard water stains and I felt leery about using them after they'd been handled like that with bare hands. Our waitress took our order, and this is where things really start to go downhill. Two people got their orders well before anyone else, and both orders were wrong. The medium rare tri tip plate looked like beef jerky and had white gravy instead of the brown ordered, and the deluxe burger didn't come with cheese and bacon as advertised. My friend still tried the tri tip but decided to send it back, and while the gravy was switched out, the same exact meat was sent back on the plate, but rearranged. Even the slice with a piece cut out was brought back to her. But at that point everyone's plates were being brought out so she didn't say anything. She also had to ask 3 times for the corn muffin that the meal came with, and the 3rd time the waitress seemed annoyed and said "It's probably still cooking" but went and checked anyway, and what do you know, it had been ready this whole time. Someone else ordered a turkey platter and the turkey was pink and obviously raw and instead of a side of corn, she got string beans after the waitress specified that it came with corn. My husband ordered the biggest breakfast entree which is supposed to come with 2 slices of bacon and 2 sausage links, but only came with 1 of each. I watched the waitress write down my order for the Bear Special burger with extra cheese, but what I received was the California burger with avocado, and I was subsequently charged for the California on my receipt. Halfway through the night one of our friends had been waiting 15 minutes for a water refill with an empty glass and the waitress brought me an ice water first even though mine was still half full. We were all hungry and had been waiting over an hour and a half for food so most of us just dealt with it, but the waitress did speak to the manager and told us he would be coming around to discuss the problems with our orders. He never showed, and we saw him go home early. Our waitress disappeared after bringing our checks so we cut our losses and paid the full price. Everyone in the party said they'd never be back, and unfortunately I have to agree. It's been 2 weeks now and they still don't have their act together. read more

Very good food, the biscuits are HUGE! I had the chicken fried steak with over medium eggs that came out over easy and loaded with egg shells. The CFS was amazing and so were the has browns. Husband had some sort of a hash plate that he enjoyed. My 2 year old had the combo plate of pancakes -amazing- bacon sausage and eggs. Pretty good. Only 3 stars since they brought us 2 other people's food, didn't have any kids bear masks after they said theyd get us one, took forever for refills, didn't discount the eggs full of shells even after the manager came over...had to ask to have them taken off after being given the check, they did take them off for us then..we will be back to try the lunch and dinner menu for sure, and we are happy to have a new breakfast place in town. read more

Tried to go here just now and there are several parties waiting. A couple barged their way in behind us and the hostess seated them immediately ahead of EVERYONE else patiently waiting. I said something and the cashier went and got the hostess. Her response was, "I didn't know". They can't handle customers now, the winter visitor season will surely be worse. Black Bear Diner better get some managers and staff that know how to run a restaurant because the current situation isn't working. We left. So this is my fourth visit here in the last two months and I hadn't thought to look at yelp or write a review until today i was curious to see the reviews and I'm surprised there are so many negative reviews especially about the wait time. So when i came to visit my husband told me there was a new place and we should check it out. So I already knew all the people of Yuma would be here because its a new place and like us were going to check it out. So if that's your complain get real of course all the people of Yuma will come so expect a line its a small city. I remember waiting 20-25 mins the first time and it was packed but i knew and i wasnt early either it was lunch hour hense rush hour. The wait time got better and we got smarter and came early (early bird catches the worm) so if you dont want to wait get here early or go to Jector's or Brownie's no wait there. And complaints on the bad service. These people are very very very friendly. Like just waking in the seater is a sweet heart and makes you feel comfy. The place has a great atmosphere. And yes at first they did take a while to get us our food heck they even forgot about our order but maybe I just understand and knew it could happen because of the amount of people there was. But now trust me the food is still great and they have a better system and it's seems to work. Give this place a try and remeber your not the only giving it a try so don't get moody if there is a seating wait. Go to a family owned restaurant if you don't want to wait there's plenty of those around. And yes this place is still new so they are still learning and improving. Very good food but poor service. After several trips this is standard. I will continue to visit, but not often because they can't seem to get anything right. Excellent food: yummy and basic. The Original Scrambowl is the "kitchen sink" of breakfasts! If you like a little bit of everything, get this! Then, there's the Bearclaw.... we got the almond one. It melts in your mouth! Great friendly, efficient staff. Unfortunately, we live on the East coast, so there aren't any of these diners near us. Otherwise, we would frequent it! So, if you see one of these diners, definitely stop in and enjoy their fare! read more

I've eaten at other BBD and this was the worst by far. We sat down and hadn't weren't seen by a server for about 20 minutes. When we were seen they forgot to bring out our drinks and soups. Mind you it was not crowded at all maybe 6 other people in there. The food was okay I guess. Definitely won't go back there again. read more

We came in for Christmas Eve dinner as we had just arrived to our nearby hotel. It was quiet and staff was friendly. Food was delicious!!!

My mom and I decided to try it out around 4:30. (Wasn't busy at all) We were sat right away but we waited 10 minutes for a server. A young lady took our drink order and 5 minutes went by and still no drinks. A older lady came by and took our drink and food order, 2 waters and 2 burgers with NO cheese. We got no refills on our waters and our burgers were served with cheese 40 minutes later. After we ate, we waited about 10 minutes for the check. One of the best places to eat in Yuma! We have been here several times and have never been disappointed. The serving sizes are usually way too much for me so my husband and I either share or I order from the "little less" section if he is extra hungry and not wanting to share...lol. Ate here for dinner on a Saturday evening. We were a party of 6. There was a 30 minute wait to be seated and another 10 minute wait before the server came over. We placed are order and the wait was probably about 20 minutes. The food was ok. Some people in my party was suppose to get a salad, which was never brought. I had the meat omelet. Somehow it came with spinach. The food temperature was warm. I did like the hash browns. Portion size was expected. Some servers did come around and checked up on us. Food quality just did not seem to be anything special, but I would consider it a little better than Cracker Barrel, IHOP, or Denny's. I will probably be back and hopefully some of the new restaurant kinks get straightened out. read more

The diner is great And the food is so good, but our wait staff needs to either write the orders down or somehow improve his memory, out of the 4 people in our dining party he got three of the orders wrong. Delicious food and very generous portions! We've been twice as they recently opened and both times were pleased with our meals. We typically go to Black Bear for breakfast only but I'm sure everything is good. Our daughter loves the bears and greets all of them on the way in and out side note they are a tad slow with getting the food to the table, although I think it's well worth the wait and I don't mind drinking a few cups of coffee before I eat my food. read more

We stopped by & upon entering the restaurant.. you get that cabin feel like your up in the woods... very nice, its clean.. atmosphere is good... very home like... welcoming.. its like Cracker Barrel & Dennys mixed together... but without the home like cooked meals.. the food was ok.. nothing really good worth coming back for.. the steak was pretty good. Mashed potatoes were ok... I ordered the salmon.. & I love salmon... I eat it quite often.. but this one I ordered smelled extremely bad.. so we had to return it.. they gave us a free meal on the house wich was nice even though they did not have too..very committed to customer service... wich was a surprise considering its Yuma & customer service is rare to find... Among the food that was ordered... the pancake & sausage I was told was very delicious.. & the hamburgers were quite juicy... the kids drinks are really tiny.. & no lids... not a big deal.. but it eould be nice.. dessert was huge... its literrally a big bowl of pie that serves about 4 people.. so share if you must.. the coconut cream pie was not the greatest... it tasted very generic.. a few bites is what I had... it tasted like generic coconut pie with cool whip topping on it... I was not a fan... Edwards coconut pie from Wal-Mart is still the best hands down.. Showing a visitor around the area and he requested a good chicken fried steak. Decided to go to Black Bear Diner. We went after lunch rush and before dinner crowd. We were seated quickly and got our beverages. They had three steak burgers and we ordered two one with fries and one with onion rings and if course our visitor ordered the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and country gravy with green beans. He loved the sweet tea and we had Arnold Palmer's, which were good..not too sweet. The food was delicious (we actually took 1/2 of each of the burgers home). The Onion rings were thick slices and very good and a nice crisp coating. The portions were large and the server, Jennifer, was excellent. We will be back again. read more

First let me say that the food is good, however, the service was damn near the worst I've ever had! We waited waited so long for our food that we decided to take it to go because my 2 kids were falling asleep. We waited an hour and 10 min for our order. "Manager" was screaming at the rest of the staff and while she was preparing the food at the counter she kept taking her mask off and wiping her sweat off her forehead! Mask on, mask off! Wipe her sweat! No gloves and didn't wash her hands! If I worked for the health dept I would of shut them down immediately! It was disgusting! Hopefully they were just having a bad night as far as the wait but clearly they need training on what procedures are not acceptable when wearing a mask. I would not return or recommend this restaurant based on that and it's unfortunate because like I said the food is good. read more

Coffee was basically water, almost everything was under salted, my potatoes were undercooked, but their baby bear salsa was excellent along with the orange juice they gave me in exchange for my coffee (pricey though 5$). My California Omelet was good and even better once I added the salsa. I love potatoes though and was sad to see them undercooked and under seasoned. Toast was a tad burnt, but I don't mind burnt toast. The atmosphere was pleasant and the waitress boosted this rating up another star. read more
