Horrible service No consideration for customer needs The bed we have is defective and we were told they'd pick it up on a certain date, with cable company hours.. you know, "we will be there between today and next year" kind of deal We then wait all day for the pick up and finally call at the end of the day being told it would not happen today and needed to be rescheduled. Why didn't you call us, why did we have to reach out to be told this? Then I asked to speak to the manager and get put in hold for several minutes, told I'd be connected to the manager and I get sent directly to voicemail. I then call back and am hit with an answering service. They don't care about their customers and the fact that having this faulty equipment is a hazard as if there were an emergency my loved one could not access the exit easily. I always used to buy my vinyl gloves and nebulizer kit from Blackbear because it was a local medical supply store that carried exactly what I needed, and the customer service was fantastic. Two months ago, I went in to purchase several boxes of unpowdered vinyl gloves (I use them when quilting because I'm contact allergic to the glue in batting) and two packs of clear nebulizer tubing as spares for my kit, and was taken aback by the sparsity in the showroom. Almost everything was gone. No nebulizer kits, no tubing, and no vinyl gloves, which shocked me because I know some dental offices in Portland use them. When I asked at the front desk for vinyl gloves, they said they only carried nitrile now and that I'd have to order them if I wanted them. The attitude was, if you want them, you'll wait. I told them I would order everything from Amazon and walked out. I don't know what happened to them, but they just lost a long-time customer. read more

I got my new CPAP machine from Black Bear Medical on 08/09/2021 with no issues. Everyone was very helpful. However when I ordered my CPAP supplies they took over a month to arrive. I thought I was dealing with a local company but learned they outsource supplies to a company out of Kentucky. I was billed $196.00 for my supplies as so much time had passed waiting for my supplies I ordered my CPAP supplies through Amazon (Same brand, Same supplies) was $28.00 I returned the Black Bear supplies to Kentucky. I also had to use a pulse oximeter overnight. Which I got from Black Bear in Portland, ME. Today 11/08/2021 I received a bill for the oximeter from Florida. When I asked my insurance why it was not covered they said the Florida company was "Out of Network" so I am responsible for the payment. (Screwed again) For anyone dealing with Black Bear Medical. I brought in the drs order which they told me wasn't complete. back to MD who gave me more paperwork! it's been faxed 3 times but yesterday I went in to see what was happening and the clerk snapped at me and said they needed drs orders!!! I wish I could give them ZERO stars. They have the worst customer service I have ever seen. I went in to be measured for prescription compression socks as recommended by my physician. The representative measured me and said I was borderline between medium and large. Their selection was low so they didn't have very many options and only had size medium. The rep never asked about insurance and never told me they have a zero return policy on socks (even if unopened). Tried one knee-high sock on at home and found it was two inches too long and came up above my knee. Tried to at least return the unopened pair but the representative refused to give me a refund. BEWARE-they are overpriced, don't stand behind their work, and don't care about their customers. Tried to support local business but will go to AMAZON now. read more

This business is very unprofessional and seems to be staffed by people who don't understand how to run a business. When shopping for compression stockings for my mother, we learned that her particular size was out of stock and needed to be ordered. The "order" consisted of the clerk writing down the item number and my mother's information on a scrap of paper she tore out of a notebook. Unsurprisingly, we never heard from her. We again went in a month later, and the same thing happened again. A really shocking level of disinterest and complete lack of competence was displayed. The only thing this business had going for it is that there are very limited medical supply stores in the area. Order online from anywhere else if you can. read more

The only part of my dealing with Black bear that good was the initial sale. They didn't give everything I needed for first three months and when I called them on it they said it was my fault. They don't return phone calls. Customer service is rude. And now after 90 day reorder they have delayed shipping for what I don't know. Run don't walk away from this company. read more

I needed a motorized chair for my wife and myself. After looking on the internet I came across BLACK BEAR. I took a ride to see what that had and was shown different types and styles. Sales took to the repair and showed how the units are made. I saw 2 motorized chairs and asked some questions about them. One was workable so I tried it and asked the price. It had just been traded in and he hadn't even checked it out. When I left I asked to be called with a price. Got the call, got the price and he told me he had another one. Asked the price and I purchased both at a price lower than anything on the internet. I am using both and enjoy both of them. read more

I honestly have to say it's been a month that my facility has been waiting for a response with parts for a wheelchair and still has not contacted us back. This service is the worst I have ever seen. I've been in this field for 6 years... there is no reason as to why they need to suck so bad at responding. I will NEVER be using them at any of the facilities I work and will tell all services that do use them to switch. This is awful and my client is in pain due to his old chair. You all suck. Never can get a person on the phone, rings and rings, then goes to a full mailbox. Never calls back when you can leave a message.

Ridiculous. Called several times, stayed on hold for 15 minutes. Finally, there's an option to leave a message, which I tried to do, but their mailbox was full. Stopped at the store - they only take appointments. Horrible service. read more

Recently took a trip out west with my wheelchair to a medical clinic. Did not realize until a month later that the airline had damage my wheelchair. I took it to Black bear medical where they diagnosed a damaged motor on it. They ordered a new motor, came over to my place and picked up my wheelchair and brought it back within 24 hours all repaired. David was very polite and knowledgeable about my repair. It is a pleasure for me to give Black bear medical five stars. Keep up the good work! read more

We recently relocated from Portland to Colorado and were wary of the 2,300 mile trip in a jeep wrangler! In our quest for some sort of lumbar or comfort cushion for the seats a friend suggested that we try Black Bear. When I called to ask their hours, someone answered immediately. We had no problem finding it either, but if you do, it's right next to World's Gym off of Marginal Way. They had just the lumbar cushions we were looking for and I'm happy to say they saved the day! A little browsing showed that they have a wide selection of durable medical equipment including a huge selection of orthotics! I wish I had had more time to peruse and shop! Because of the nature of the products, I was also able to use my HSA card which was great! Highly recommend Black Bear! read more

Look, it's called patience. This company does the best they can under the circumstances. I've been wheelchair bound for 4 years now and they have always done their best to keep my chair moving. Even squeezing me in in after service hours. I feel like most of the people who complain here just don't understand the process. I'm very thankful for Dave and Chad who always hustle to hook me up when I need them. You guys are awesome. People who work with this company need to understand that they are the only people in this area that does what they do. That means they have a lot of people who rely on them. My mother has an ileostomy(51 years) and I have recently taken over ordering her supplies, which was quite confusing and frustrating because of insurances and an understanding of what was needed. I cannot express how much I appreciated all her assistance. Lorraine is just amazing to work with and is such a pleasant person on the phone. I have been working with her for a year or so; and every time I call to place my order, I feel like I am reconnecting with an old friend. I could go on and on about her knowledge of the products, how pleasant she is, my confidence in her, knowing I will receive exactly what I need and timely. She's absolutely the BEST!!!!! read more

It service is terrible. Take them forever to get you the supplies you need on 2 separate occasions I had to wait 6 weeks for bed wedge and 4 weeks to get a cane. They are not very efficient. I will be looking for another provide from this point forward. read more

They were supposed to contact my insurance company to find out about coverage for a wheelchair and was promised an answer within a few days. Since then have left four voice mail messages (you cannot reach a live person) and not received a single return call. Black Bear is the worst medical supply place I have encountered. Their customer service is nonexistent. I have been getting my CPAP supplies there for the past year or two since the other place I was getting them was bought out by a larger company and I wanted to do something local. The respiratory department there is terrible. Even though they have a big store, they don't stock much and insist that what I need be sent to me by mail rather than delivered to the store for me to pick up. There is almost always something incorrect and this last time they actually sent me back to the supplier on my own to get it corrected. Before I need supplies again, I will be finding another provider. read more

I was looking for some athletic compression socks my friend had told me about. When I arrived at Black Bear Medical I was extremely surprised at the selection but even more so surprised at the amount of sports health products. I always thought they were all wheelchairs, walkers and home medical equipment. I was actually greeted by one of the managers who looked like he was on his way out the door but took great care of me and explained everything about the compression socks. He told me they have over 900 products. I was extremely happy with the service and the selection. I will definitely be back for other things. read more

Terrible customer service. Tried to get compression stockings, had a Rx called in by my doc, went down to pick them up and was told "we didn't fill faxed prescriptions today. Only walk-ins. The person who processes these has left for the day. You'll have to come back on Monday. Ok, call on Monday after to see if everything is all set. "No, we didn't have your insurance information, only the Rx from the doc." So you didn't bother to call and ask me? "No, I'm sorry, we didn't. We'll try to call your Insurance company now and get approval." Don't knock yourselves out. I'll be looking for another place to purchase my items. read more

I tried Black Bear Medical even though they hsd bad rarings because they were on our way to starting our vacation. Apparantently they have a new Manager and wow she was the greatest. When we were returnining from our trip up the coast we were scheduled back during the weekend and flying out early the next day and Black Bear was closed for the weekend so we had no way to return our six large tanks. I called the Manager and explained my problem. She very promptly set it up for us to leave the tanks at our hotel desk and she picked them up on the way to work on Monday. I'm a business man and know a good manager when I see one. She no doubt will turn Black Bear around in a very short time. read more

Stopped in looking for pain relief from a TENS unit. Went through a variety of options. Before doing that they tried some alternatives including the LaserTouchOne which they worked on me for quite a long time with. They then applied kinesiology tape to the areas of pain and took me around the rest of their sports health products to help me find other therapy products for my back and shoulders. I ending up buying a foam roller and a muscle massager and will be back to pick up the TENS unit they special ordered for me. They even kept the store open late on a Saturday while I was finishing up and never made me feel rushed. read more

I have left many voice mails with not one returned. They dumped my new power chair on my doorstep and never returned to finish adjusting it to fit me. Now I have new chair that's causing me emotional, physical, and bodily harm. And there's not a thing I can do about it. I tried to exchange or return a cane today because I've only had it a couple of weeks and the foam grip had started to split. I was informed they have a SEVEN day return policy. I guess it wouldn't have mattered if I had a receipt or not. The fact is they don't stand behind their products. Why wouldn't I buy a cane at WalMart or a pharmacy?
