    Before and after grooming!
    Danielle T.

George did an amazing job welcoming our new rescue to the Black Birch family! We first went to have an obedience assessment and George took his time with us and explained in detail his findings and answered all of our questions. We then booked a grooming appointment for our new puppy and were met with the same amazing customer service. George took his time with our nervous dog and stopped a few times to give him breaks. The before and after are better than we expected and he smells so good! Black Birch is a great resource for Milford and surrounding communities!

Massive mat caused by excessive licking after our dog developed hot spots during his boarding stay

Our dog spent a weekend at Black Birch Farm every 2-3 months for about two years. Initially, we had a great experience. The staff seemed enthusiastic, we loved the option of an outdoor attached run and our dog was healthy and happy when we picked him up. Christmas of 2018, we planned a longer than usual trip and boarded our dog for 10 days. When we picked him up, the groomer happened to be there and mentioned that he'd noticed some mats on our dog's stomach when he gave him a bath that day. We headed home and quickly noticed that our dog was obsessively licking his stomach and legs. When we took a closer look, we were devastated to see that he had extreme "hot spots" with raw skin, pus-filled blisters and massive mats caused by his licking. We rushed him to the vet and they shaved off the hair, cleaned his wounds and treated the infection with broad spectrum antibiotics. He spent two weeks with an e-collar on. We went back to Black Birch and spoke to the staff, leaving a message for the owner. The owner was very gracious and stopped by our house to check on our dog, offering to split the vet bill with us. However, he suggested that our dog's condition was our fault, as we dropped him off already matted. While I disagree with him on that point, it's really beside the point. Regardless of how he was dropped off, his staff either didn't pay enough attention to our dog to notice his injuries, or did notice them and just didn't think they warranted action. In either case, we no longer felt confident in the care he would receive there and stopped boarding him after that incident.

Excited to get back to Black Birch Farm!

We first used Black Birch Farm to board our puppy just over a year ago. She did very well and received excellent care. In March when I started to work from home, l often needed to be on video conferences, etc... Needless to say, I could not have a barking dog in the background. They've been wonderful and Winnie loves going to see her friends. There have been days when I literally had to pick her up and put her in the car because she did not want to leave!

Khloe can't wait to get to Black Birch, she knows the route

Called Crissy in a panic, I needed to go for an outpatient procedure at Yale, New Haven Hospital…read moreand did not know how long it would take. My older lab is never left more than a couple hours, he goes with me to most places and not use to being alone for long durations, also someone I could trust in my home. Crissy did an excellent job, my lab was happy, fed and let out to play. I will call Crissy's Critters for any and all future pet care. THANK YOU CRISSY

We have an awkwardly nervous, and crazy rescue dog, that I'm POSITIVE somehow has doggy PTSD. He…read morealso has some sort of ADHD, which makes it impossible to get him to pay attention, or get his focus on one specific thing like dinner or late night potty trips. He also has a hard time with strangers, so we were resigned to think we would never get away from the house due to his issues. Once we were forced to look into dog-sitting for an event we were required to attend, we realized finding someone to look after him was imperative. After emailing back and forth with Crissy, we set up a time for them to meet at our house, to see how they got along. Carson was his typical shakey, barking self, but Crissy's easygoing nature made his nerves settle down and he eventually took to her quite enthusiastically. Crissy has dog-sat for us on multiple occasions, on day trips and weekend overnights, and every time we returned, we came back to a happy dog, and a safe house. I feel confident leaving our lil guy in her capable hands, and will continue to do so. I highly recommend her to anyone with pets, and especially people with pets who have special needs, are old or injured, or have issues that put them out of the possibility of putting their lil friend in a kennel. Prices are reasonable, with prices by the hour, or by event, such as a one hour visit being $28, or an overnight with a mid day walk being $68. Absolutely worth it, Crissy is talented and wonderful, and will remain with our family for as long as possible.
