Balanced flavor, a little sweet but not too sweet...with a nice bourbon finish to it! Now back to the Fish & Chips...I have had them twice now, with the same cocktail to chase them down. These are what Fish & Chips are meant to be. The batter is light with a great crunch, not heavily breaded but a light flavorful batter! To start, I tried the Pickletini. As a fan of pickle-forward drinks, I found it "not bad"--a solid choice if you enjoy that briny profile. My fiancé opted for the All Ways Down Double IPA flight. At 9% ABV, it was a heavy hitter, but he really enjoyed the intense hop aroma and flavor provided by the Cryo Hops. For my main, I ordered the TNT Sando (Tri-Tip with bacon jam and garlic aioli) on Gaston's grilled focaccia. I requested it without pickles, and it was excellent. I paired it with the Black Bean and Veggie soup, which was a standout--perfectly delicious with a nice "zing" to it. Unfortunately, the meal hit a significant snag with my fiancé's Fish & Chips. The beer and cornmeal tempura batter was extremely thick (nearly 3/4 of an inch in some spots) and the fish was overcooked. Additionally, the blue cheese dressing on his side salad was very runny and tasted off. It was disappointing enough that we had to send it back. We replaced it with The Spicy Italian pizza. This was a total 180--it arrived looking beautiful, and the combination of the meats, pepperoncinis, and hot honey was absolutely delicious. Our server, Casey P., was generally good and attentive, though we did have to wait to start our meal because we weren't initially provided with napkins or silverware. A minor note on the atmosphere: the table we were seated at had "gay" carved into the wood, which felt a bit out of place for the professional vibe of the rest of the establishment. Overall, the TNT Sando, the pizza, and the beers are worth coming back for, but the kitchen consistency on the fried items definitely needs some work.

My husband enjoys IPAs and Hazy beer, and he loves their Hip Check. Last time I went, I sat on the restaurant side (usually we sit on the brewery side), and I sampled a few of their appetizers that my party ordered and they were all tasty. I am a particular fan of their pretzel bites and taquitos. If you have family or friends in town, I highly recommend strolling around downtown and stopping in for a beer, or dinner.

Our last friend who is notoriously late allowed is some extra time to really check out the whole menu without feeling rushed. Happy hour was going on so of course the apps were calling to me. I can make a meal off of multiple appetizers. We finally got food ordered when our last friend showed up. I got the salmon and shrimp crab cakes. I have left Sockeye hungry before after having dinner here so I also added a side of chili just in case. I was ready to eat! My crab and shrimp cakes came out looking fabulous. They were fried a nice golden brown. So crispy on the outside and savory on the inside. I love the aoili that was on top, it added an extra flair to the crab cake. 3 were in an order and it was the perfect amount. I smashed all 3 and they were so good! I did have a couple bites of the chili. It was hearty in meat and beans. Rich in flavor and filling. I'm looking forward to adding this chili to some fries with some cheese on top for dinner later. I know it's going to be so good. Our server did a great job tonight. Despite the fact that she had to wait till our last friend to show up, our server was on top of it.
