Specifically, I want to shout out our wine guide who took us through several of their wines. She made our experience there memorable with her amazing personality, charm, and humor. The space is small but offers a variety of options to hang out and enjoy their wines and ciders - inside by the fireplace, outside on the screen porch, or outdoors on the patio. Golden Harvest was one of those farms, chosen by my husband who planned the entire trip. I was along for the ride. It's quaint and hard to miss with its bright-red, apple-shaped sign. We parked in front of the shop, and the smell of freshly baked goods greeted us when we entered. At that moment I knew this place would not disappoint. The counter had pies, turnovers, and cookies on display, but we came with a mission: secure a cider donut. It's so refreshing to see donuts sold at a reasonable price. For $1.35, these were a steal compared to the $6 ones sold in the city. (Yes, $6 for a single!) The donuts, which were still warm when we had them, were generously coated with cinnamon sugar. The cremee was excellent and loaded with maple flavor and just as good as the one at Vermont Cookie Love in Ferrisburgh. My husband got the fudge, and he loved it. They also have many bakery items, but we actually didn't buy any of that. We were quite satisfied with the ice cream and fudge. The Apple Barn is worth the stop and has lots to offer. Once, on our way out of the city for our Upstate getaway then a second time heading back home. The flavors were unreal. Even something as pedestrian as a strawberry sprinkles donut tasted award-winning. This was one of my favorite bites, and that's surprising coming from someone who really orders it. In fact, the last time I got that donut was probably when I was a child. Unlike most shops, the frosting was, indeed, strawberry flavored and not just some bullshit icing with pink dye. They also offered novel combinations, like coconut lychee and a pecan donut that had the most complex profile: sweet, smokey, with a slight funk. I've never tasted anything like it. The flavors strangely worked well together. The brown butter donut was the pièce de résistance. It was wonderfully sweet and salty, reminiscent of a butterscotch square.
