I was trying to put together a folding kick scooter a friend's son had gotten for Christmas when a spring shot out from somewhere. There was no mention of a spring in the manual; nor could I find anything remotely relevant on YouTube. A friend who owns a skateboard shop suggested talking to John at NC board shop. I was sure glad I did. John spent a good 20 minutes figuring out what the part did and getting it back into place. Very cool skateboard shop! I came in to buy a complete skateboard for my Grandson. The person that helped me out was extremely knowledgeable and very helpful, he was able to guide me through the inns and out of selecting a board that would not only be age appropriate but something that he could also grow into and would last long enough with quality parts "without having to buy the top of the line equipment or for that matter buying something that was crap" I settled on a thrasher board with 53 mm wheels and ABCE9 bearings along with NC Boardshop trucks and finished the underside with the Santa Cruz screaming hand and a bones dinosaur sticker. Cuz that's how I roll "get it, roll?" The shop not only carries everything you need to build a board the also sell protection gear, shoes, socks, pants, and shirts as well as sunglasses and even Christmas ornaments, " which I bought, laugh out loud" Total price for the board was $129 which honestly after doing some interweb research is a pretty good deal for a quality skateboard. WOW - AMAZING - UNBELIEVABLE Better than Amazing, this is how I describe my interaction with NC Boardshop and Carrie. Where do I start, I had called NC Boardshop looking to rent a surfboard, Carrie had answered the phone and had mentioned they don't do rentals. I had mentioned I was bummed because my brother recently just passed away and was a surfer 50 years and we were spreading his ashes out on the O'neill Catamaran. I wanted my brother to have a chance and ride a surfboard for the last time as I had made a biodegradable item to put some of his ashes on to ride off in the ocean in Santa Cruz. Carrie, thought that was so amazing and said come in Wednesday, I will let you use MY OWN BOARD!!. She said it was a beautiful story and she wanted to help make that happen. I went out and meet her on Wednesday, there was the board with a big hug. YOU DON"T MEET PEOPLE LIKE THAT ANYMORE. She didn't even know me, and gave me her personal surfboard. I brought it back on Monday, shared pictures with her and my family was so impressed with her they wanted me to pass it on to her. My daughter as well, purchased flowers and wanted me to give to Carrie. I looked around in the store and it was amazing, shoes, clothing, skateboards, all types of things , GO CHECK OUT NC Boardshop. I went to that store to see the scooters, I didn't know how to ride them and wasn't sure whether they work for me a 72 yrs old person. Mike the owner was super nice he let me try different styles and explained the difference. I took lots of his time and didn't buy one, because I needed to think about it. I came in today for my birthday to finally buy the skateboard that I have wanted for a while now. I was not greeted by anyone but there was a gentleman behind the register. I went into the skateboard area to look for the skateboard and after a while the gentleman came into the area and said are you looking for something and I said i was looking for a specific skateboard. It sounded like he asked if he could hold my dog and I questioned him, hold my dog? And he says yes can you hold your dog and I replied why do I need to hold my dog and he says we do not allow dogs in here and I replied even service dogs? He replies to me rudely I don't see a vest on him and I said it's in my car if you would like me to go get it if it would that make you feel better it's right there I could go get it. He continues with saying never mind just hurry up and I asked while he's putting skateboards on the shelf not paying sny attention to me about this specific skateboard and he replies that's last year's and I asked if he was able to get it because I really love it and he said rudely "no I can't". so I turned around left and I went to Zumiez and spent my money there and got A wonderful board with awesome customer service. I will NEVERRRRR return to NC shop again. Guess they didn't want my money. O and I have 3 skateboarding kids so you know I'll be buying more stuff. Worst Boardshop I've ever been to I've been skating for 11 years and I've been to a lot of board shops definitely would recommend any other shop. they have very nice stuff good quality but when we walked in the energy was completely off they kept watching us as if we were trying to steal when we simply wanted to look around since this was our first time here. I had a terrific shopping experience here today. With the current pandemic, it is so hard finding a shop with any real customer service to answer questions or allow me to see skateboards in person. Then, I remembered NC Boardshop in Los Gatos after driving by so many times over the years. I called first and found out they have retail hours. Although was not able to go inside, I was able to shop at the door. John was extremely helpful. He answered all of my questions and pointed me in the right direction in buying beginner skateboards for my 6-year-old nephew and 6-year-old son. July 2, 2024. If you're looking for a family core skate shop and not something corporate, don't come here. This is not the place to go. After years of coming here I always get uncomfortable comments from Mike[tall old white dude} and I'm not the only one, I've heard countless stories of him making people uncomfortable. Today I went in for shoes and a blank deck, funds aren't the best so I was looking at the 40$ shoes and after seeing there's only 2 that weren't appealing I went to look online. Mike then came up to me as I was sitting down if I needed help with anything, I told him no and I'm just looking online for something with a better price and already used to recycle. He then told me "looking at other people's prices trying to get a better price is very looked down upon from a shop owner" after explaining my situation of shoes where I don't really have the funds to buy top line shoes he went on to show me the 25% off shoes which are still over 40$ so it didn't help at all and then continued to repeat "looking at other people's prices trying to get a better price is very looked down upon from a shop owner" so I got my blank deck. Mob grip and left, this is not the first encounter like this from Mike and anyone from the San Jose skate scene has said the same thing including workers from that shop that I've talked to (not calling anyone out). I'm not one to write reviews are be harsh but he needs to stop coming at customers with such hostility. Love this place!! The Good: These guys know there stuff. I first came looking to get my daughter (at the time 12 years old) a skateboard. They asked a number of questions and really took their time fitting her with what would work for her. In addition to the boards, they have a great selection of shoes, hats and socks (yes socks -- my kid loves coming here as they have a sock selection not available at any of the other stores). The Bad: The board selection is huge! Telling a 12 year old to pick what they like with a selection this large is a challenging task but definitely worth it! The Ugly: The shop is very close to the middle school so whatever you do, avoid this place around 3pm during school hours or you will be sitting in busy busy traffic. In summary, this is the place to get a skateboard in LG or the surrounding area. We comparison shopped at other stores in Santa Cruz and these guys won out! read more

Really like this shop. Now if they'd just carry stuff for skates :) We came here cause my son wanted a new scooter, the kid isn't even 13 and he's 5'11". So we were looking for something with taller bars and a deck big enough for his clown feet. Lol. I'll be honest and say we weren't planning on buying here before we came. We assumed it'd be pretty pricey- being in Los Gatos. Pleasantly surprised. Their prices seemed on par with online. The staff was super nice. Helpful. Weren't pushy. Hella great experience getting my first skateboard here! This year I slowly became captivated by this art and wanted to get my first board. Mike and an associate (sorry, didn't catch your name, my bad!) are super chill, knowledgeable, have good vibes and make you feel welcome. I was going for certain parts to use for my first build, but instead I opted for one of their in-shop built boards, fully really to go out the door. We needed to pick up some soft racks to transport our new surfboards. Being in California, you would think it wouldn't be so difficult to secure something like this but---I WAS WRONG :( After calling half a dozen places, I came across NC Boardshop and they had a few different types in stock--YAY! We ventured down to Los Gatos to the store (note to folks to double check Google Maps--they were a tad off on directions) and were surprised to see the wide selection of merchandise that they had. The store clerks were really helpful and we were checked in on at least 3-4 occassions in the short time we were there. They've got cute little pop-art items on display around the store too :) Happily we found the soft racks that we had hoped for and they were VERY reasonably priced. It's been 30 years since I needed a board shop, so when I came in with a deck and trucks ordered from the internet, I didn't know what to expect. The helpful and super knowledgeable staff got me what I needed to finish of my son's new skateboard AND assembled it right away for free! Even if putting a board together is easy to do at home, it's very convenient to do it in the shop because dealing with grip tape is no fun. I recommend them because there was zero attitude about me bringing in parts from somewhere else and the perfect customer service. read more

I bought a longboard here once when I was 18. I had just earned my first paycheck from my job at the time and decided to spend it on a beautiful Sector 9 38" bamboo board It was one of the best and first impulsive purchases I ever made as an adult. The only boards I had ever been on at the time were snowboards and boogie boards. I also did not fit in with the skater crowd, but NC is a welcoming place and I am grateful for that experience. I know now it's a business and they're trying to turn over their inventory--I took some college business courses since--however, it was very inspiring to be able to just jump in and buy something without really having much exposure. It's more than just a business, this place has been serving the Los Gatos community for years. Kids everywhere around town wear NC shirts--that's their marketing and its target market--children and young adults who want to take up skating and of course have the funds to buy a board. They run such an incredibly local business. I hope to run a successful shop like NC one day. To this day, I still ride this longboard. I've had it for almost six years now and I still feel like that cool middle school kid I always wanted to be who skated around LG. Now, I'm in Scottsdale riding this beauty around paved, slightly hilly streets. Bliss. read more

I absolutely hate Zumiez. I'm not even that great at skating but I've been skating for several years now and as someone who knows what they want to buy at a skate shop NC Boardshop is amazing. They carry the the products that skaters actually seek out. Their deck selection is great, lot of DLX, Toy Machine, Santa Cruz, Peralta, pretty much decks from quality woodshops like: BBS, PS Stix, South Central, and Jart. They also have Dwindle wood but I'm not a fan. I needed a set of OJ keyframe wheels for my new Grimple Stix deck so I don't have to eat shit skating on the sidewalk hitting a pebble every 5 minutes. They were fully stocked. Those wheels are hard to come by online sometimes. Anyways if you're a seasoned skater and know what you want, then shop here. If you're brand new to skating come here and talk to the gentleman wearing glasses behind the counter where where the decks are located. He knows his shit, he's been skating for years, he would skate with the pros in Embarcadero up in SF and he has a true passion for skating and will get you everything you need for the perfect set up given your budget. They also have skate gear like shoes and backpacks, clothing, and all that good stuff. I've been shopping here for some time now and this review is long overdue. read more
