scandinavian bakery by the water with lots of sweet treats and breads. we tried the viking cup (basically a cinnamon roll with lots of cream cheese), I thought it was slightly dry and very sweet. maybe it would've helped to heat it up!

This bakery has an incredible selection of desserts! There was so much variety that it was hard to choose, and everything looked fresh and delicious. The only downside was that the staff wasn't the friendliest during our visit. It also seems like they're almost always busy, so expect a bit of a wait and bring some patience. That said, the treats are absolutely worth it, and I'd definitely stop by again.

The bakery items were good and very flavorful however they do pull a little bait and switch on some of the items. My suggestion is to pick your items like you would a steak at market, point at the one you want and say "I want that one". We got a few different pastries however as you can see from the photos the apple fritter we got in the bag was barely as big as the logo on the bag. The fritter on display in the case was huge, that was the same with pretty much all the other pastries except maybe the pecan roll. We did find it weird that they were pulling items from shelves behind the cases and not from the cases themselves. The line was long but it moved fast, that has to be blamed on all the tourist asking questions, being indecisive and those trying to make conversation with everyone around them. You know the kind. This may have been a true to online photo bakery at one point but now it's being run on tourist profit and they seem to be cutting corners to make as much money as possible during tourist season. It would be interesting to see how it's run in the off season but we probably won't be back.

A popular bakery that's highly recommended during any Poulsbo trip. Even people in other buildings around town recommended this spot. I thought the items we grabbed were excessively sweet. Keeping an open mind that they offer a larger variety of pastries and goods I didn't try but my visit felt just average. While not overly impressed, I can appreciate a solid spot with fresh donuts and pastries managing high traffic. Line tends to be long but moves at a moderate speed, as the employees are open to chatting. Large Butterhorn - excessively sweet to a point where I felt sick of sugar because it's also pretty big. I personally would rather eat a fluffy donut because this felt more like a condensed block of sugar, but seems to be a favorite for others. Might just not be for me. Swedish Almond Pastry - while this was also super sweet, the almond flavor was able to pop out at times. Sliced almonds on top helped sprinkle some extra flavor but were ultimately consumed by the sweetness. A little flakier in texture which helped dissociate with the dense sugar block.

Lots of choices. I normally do not eat a lot of sweets but I want to try this popular place in Poulsbo because of great reviews. It is a family owned, historic bakery known for handmade breads, donuts, pastries and the Viking cup. I picked up a number of treats and have been delighted with them all. My favorite is the pecan roll (love the crunch) and hubby's is the Viking cup. The staff were helpful and friendly. Sluys is a very nice bakery and a good place to go if you're fixing for good baked goods and Scandinavian pastries. I would definitely return.

Amazing and worth the wait! Get in line, we waited 20 mins the line went quickly. The pricing is affordable (two large items for $8). Easy and friendly service and pretty spacious inside. They have a good system for getting customers in and out. So glad we stopped here and waited, delicious and perfect treat or breakfast.

I've been here a few times while visiting family in Silverdale. It's about a 20-minute drive, though you can take the ferry from Seattle and make it a day trip. The bakery is located in the heart of Poulsbo, a charming Scandinavian-style town. There's usually a line, but we've been lucky during our visits and haven't had to wait too long. They offer a wide variety of freshly baked pastries, cakes, bread, and other sweet goods. We've tried several of their danishes and bundoughs, which were good, though some are bit on the sweeter side. Overall, we enjoyed our visits and the experience. The staff is friendly and welcoming. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area!

One of the things that immediately tell you a bakery is legit, is when you buy way too many donuts (really not a thing) and its still fresh day 2 and day 3. Fine it was a lot of donuts but you cannot blame me. These guys are kings when it comes to making the perfect donuts. Cinnamon sugar is a must for me and it is gloriously cinnamony not a dash, or a hint, nope, she makes herself known. I'm also a sucker for a sugar donut so obviously I had to have that then add a few donuts wholes a coconut crunch and a few cookies and you'll be so happy you stopped by. Oh, did I not mention they are priced so ridiculously low, I don't know how they are not sold out by noon (also grateful that they are not cuz it takes me an 1.5 hours to get there hehe) Also let's not forget that their people are the most patient professional peeps out there.

a little improvement on your customer service would be great the girls working seems like they need a much needed break not friendly at all. I felt rushed, they don't recommend anything, or suggest anything like I was inconveniencing them, like put a smile on your face I just spent 40 dollars at your establishment. very sad..

Food Fresh pastries and tasty. Service Although there was a long line the staff were pretty efficient to get the line moving average wait about 10 to 15 minutes. Ambiance Small place, take out only, clean and positive ambience.

Amazing selection. Breads, cookies, cupcakes everything. The line was out the door when we got there but moved pretty fast. We tried several things, the chocolate donut was pretty sweet. We bought several things to try, friendly staff and they were fast. Not a lot of room in the bakery, nowhere to sit and enjoy a pastry.

I love this bakery. The service was great and the baked desserts are a must! The town is enthralling with its Scandinavian theme.

So many delicious treats to choose from! Love all the gingerbread houses in the window. Opted for a chocolate raised donut and it was delicious. There were only a few folks in line this afternoon, so we were served quickly. Lovely to return to this historic bakery!

Sluys Poulsbo Bakery Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Sluys Poulsbo Bakery

Google says Sluys is closed everyday except for Tuesday. The Sluys website says they're open everyday. Which is true? I tried calling the store but no answer and we are driving from Seattle, so we want to make sure it's open.

They are open 5am - 6pm, everyday. Google is all messed up with their hours.

Why doesn't this business have any displayed prices in-store?

Hi Alex, We post our prices on our website but do not post them in the store as we want our staff to engage with our customers by explaining the product to them along with…

    Do they have vegan options?

Hello! All of our fruit pies and our apple & cherry strudels are vegan. Thank you for checking in!…

This location specifically is my favorite. (They have 1 downtown Poulsbo and another opening in Silverdale) It's the OG and everything about it whispers cozy coffee shop. A perfect place for a quiet date or a place to do some office work or meet with a friend. Even the outdoor seating is cozy. It's not a huge place so it's kind of forced into being cozy but they have used the space well. Even have a drive through. Though fair warning as this is the best coffee around that drive through line leaks onto the main rd and you may be better off just going inside. They also have such unique specials for espresso based drinks. I have never been led wrong by their flavor combos. The also sell single origin ethiopa coffee and canned cold brew, 2 things I am always on the hunt for.

Caffe Cocina "The Good, the bad, and the ugly"…read more Caffe Cocina is surprisingly busy, perhaps due the the Finn Hill Road drive through? I have very mixed feelings about this local Poulsbo, and soon to be Silverdale, establishment. The good: Caffe Cocina's food is arguably the best reason to visit one of their cafes. In particular, the chicken chorizo breakfast burritos are really delicious! The drink selection is extensive with some innovative twists on lattes and other coffee and tea based drinks. Unfortunately, I really judge a coffee shop on its ability to brew a really flavorful cup of black coffee - I will come back to that later in the review. The bad - The Finn Hill road location has mediocre to bad customer service depending on the day and the shift. Unless you are a charismatic individual under the age of 30, you are likely to be received with no shortage of attitude and general disdain...as if it is your pleasure to be ignored for as long as possible and then to have your order taken with the type of apathy that I would normally approach a Monday morning work conference call where you know you are going to have to listen to that one coworker that seems enamored with their ability to ask questions on points already sufficiently covered...I digress. The downtown location has much friendlier service, so head there if you do not require drive through services. The ugly - The coffee and coffee beans, probably tolerable if you are having an espresso-based drink, but I would shy away from the drip coffee and the beans for brewing coffee at home. The coffee is frankly over roasted, too oily, and decidedly one note for most of the beans that I have tried. I have sampled dark, medium, light roasts and single origins and have not tried anything worth recommending. Should this have been a 3 or a 4 star review? That depends on the location you are visiting and what you are visiting for. If you simply focus on the downtown location, I would by default increase this to a (4) star review due to the excellent customer service and the fact that they offer a pour over (unfortunately, the coffee is still mediocre). If you are visiting the Finn Hill location for anything other than the food, I stand by my (3) star review which is frankly generous given my experience most visits.

I tried a blueberry streusel muffin- didn't care for it, seemed dry and lacked blueberries. The muffin itself had a yellow cake like batter and the streusel lacked sweetness or flavor. I also chose a Carmel pecan roll. It was much more to my liking, especially after I warmed it up. It was much like my grandmother used to make. Soft, nice amount of topping. First their baked goods are stodgy and not properly executed. Their shortbread tastes like cardboard and is nothing like English shortbread should be. No good butter in evidence here. Their koign amman is not even crisp on the outside. There is something off with each baked item. If you enjoy dump and go style baking that don't require any refinement but are full of American sugar, I think you will feel this is an elite bakery. Otherwise, this is a bad knock off attempt. Scones seem to be chewy and tasteless. I got a "lemon poppyseed" polenta cake where there was no lemon-y flavor at all! It was also heavy and couldn't handle more than 3 bites at a time. Stuck in the gullet. Second their service is appalling. The people behind the counter are all in on some inside ball game and customer service is not their emphasis. They are looking away while half-heartedly asking you what you would like, and more interested in serving up verbal repartees to their co-workers while distractedly trying to complete a sale. You can expect to repeat your order a few times. Then there's the off-handed use of bakery tissue which is not quite neat and hygienic. I mean it's a shambolic operation that gets away with it because there is no competition in Kingston unless you take the ferry across to Edmonds.
