Deek Creek is located about 25 minutes outside of Big Bear and the perfect spot to stay if you just need to crash for a night or two. I can tell they likely renovated the rooms within the last few years. They have a modern feel to them and include a microwave and mini-fridge. They are very simple with the bare necessities (a few toiletries and towels). The room didn't have a hair dryer but they could have one at the front (I didn't ask). The bed and floors were clean, however the shower curtain was smudged with a previous person's makeup which was kind of gross. No cable or linked streaming service on the TV, just the free TV channels that come with the manufacturer. We stayed on the lower level and heard a lot of footsteps above us in the morning so beware the noises do travel. Parking is easy with a lot behind the back of the motel. read more

I stayed here last year and the couple that was at the front desk was friendly. I decided to stay here again and my sister helped me to book the room. She put the reservation under my name and wanted to confirm so she called ahead of time. The manager there was extremely rude and was arguing with her that he wasn't going to do anything unless hotels.com called him. My sister sent me the confirmation that it was under my name and the guy still had an attitude and wouldn't look at it until he realized it was change on his computer. Then I asked what the office hours were and he said 24 hours but after a certain time he won't answer only for emergencies. I don't understand why anyone else would even bother bugging other than emergencies. He said they offer room service but you have to let them know ahead of time. Our room still had leftover shampoo, conditioner and soap that was there from the previous person. The power was shut down for the city and the manager didn't bother letting anyone know or pass out flyers warning us. I found out from locals that they were shutting it down. This place needs a new manager because I wouldn't stay here again because of his lack of customer service and communication. read more

Stayed one night at Deep Creek Motel. The interior of room is simple yet complete with new modern decor, wood flooring (including a microwave and fridge) and ultra clean. Hairdryer and iron with board available upon request. Bathroom is fantastic with fresh clean towels. The building outdoor does not represent the cozy and comfy interior. Front office has coffee and hot drinks available for free. I was told by front desk that the motel owner plans to resume pancakes breakfast when the pancake maker is fix. We would definitely book this place again for the next visit - due to its proximity to Snow Valley! read more

Yesterday I left my 150$ MagSafe charger, we returned on the same day asking if the maid or the manager had found the battery pack.we were 100% positive we left it on table, which meant taken by either the maid or the manager. If you are expecting something fancy this is not the place that being said the place was perfect and close to the gas station and little shops and restaurants :) The on-site manager who may also be the owner was very kind and accommodating. My boyfriend and I stayed here on Sunday night during the 3 day weekend and really enjoyed the cute little room. It was decorated with farm animals and had a Charlotte's web theme. There was no fridge or microwave, but they had a powerful little space heater, a comfy bed with a plush blanket, a tv, and a good hot shower with good water pressure. This place is right in between big bear lake (30-40 minute drive) and lake arrowhead (20-30 minute drive). I will definitely be coming back, it was comfy and a great deal and location. read more

CONTACT THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT The couple managing the motel are very nice, if they were any less nice, not many would stay there. The owners should be very happy they have a couple who know how to DEFUSE an awful situation!! When guests arrive, they have already paid, no refunds, says the sight, so what can they do??? The website says "air conditioning" NOPE!!!!!! HOT ROOMS TOO!!! So the management talks SWEETLY, such a calm and seemingly accommodating personality but what is really happening is the guest is being SMOOZED!! The carpets are unhealthy filled beyond belief with disgust, in fact I will be sending my photos to the consumer complaint department of the Attorney Generals Office, these rooms should be taken off the market until they are brought up to code! The showers, sinks, and beds are clean but the carpets, should be taken out immediately by the health department. It is a pet friendly motel and I would not allow my service animal to sleep on the floor!!! The AIR CONDITIONERS DO NOT WORK AT ALL except in a room or two! I heard guest after guest ask about a room with air only to be SMOOZED about how sorry they were that they were not working "right now" like if they just broke and the rooms were not rented under FALSE ADVERTISMENT OF BEING AIR CONDITIONED! They are not!!! I heard maybe three rooms working, everyone else was given a box fan. Like I said the management are SO NICE but the guest still paid for a room with air and did NOT GET IT, nor did I get a discount that I asked for!!!! But he did say, " oh sure I will see what I can do" AND THEN DID NOTHING!!! They BS you in a very accommodating voice and mannerisms, don't fall for it! I will take my complaints to a hirer leaves and get the NEED CHANGES DONE!!! But please don't rave about how nice you were BSed by management because that is what it is. 5 stars largely due to the price and super friendly front desk. The room is super basic with a floor heater but its very clean. I was a little nervous about seeing just one blanket on each bed but the little heater maintained things pretty well. I would bring extra blankets if I were coming again. If I could make one suggestion it would be to hang up a clothing rod on the far wall by the table. It would be great to be able to hang up ski stuff and end of day. If your room is by the stairs, its very noisy but nothing going on too early or too late so it was ok. Lastly, they do accept pets which is nice. We have stayed in some pretty funky "pets ok" places but this place is very clean and nice and smelled good. We ended up not bringing our dog in the end but I would def stay here again. This was our second time staying here . 1st time was about 6 years ago in which my husband and I were barley dating and decided to take a random trip to the mountains . There was a bad snow storm so we decided to stay there . It was good enough because we literally just needed a bed to sleep in and a warm room . 6 years later we decided to do a random trip the busiest time of the year but now with 2 little ones . We decided to stay here because it was " Newley renovated " . It literally was the same crap while it was 6 years ago but with crappy paintings on the wall . This place is very run down and old . We literally were so cold because our heater was broken and wouldn't heat the room . If you are looking for a basic room and when I mean basic it's just a bed , table and bathroom then this is the place . There isn't even a mini fridge or microwave . Fate drove me and my boys to stay at this motel this weekend when our intention was simply Big Bear for some snow. It was literally bumper to bumper on the 18 for the next 20 miles in to Big Bear, got fed up, I glanced over to my left when just passing Running Springs, saw the motel and said F-it we are going to get something here. What a great decision that was. Run by a couple, the young lady behind the desk was quite receptive, friendly and gave us an available two bed room above the office for $100 all-together. The guy went up to the room in advance and started the heater for us. Appear to be family people, quite friendly and their little dude running around is awesome. The couple was very down to Earth and I rather liked the conversations I had with them at different times. They treat you in a manner they would want to be treated and that made for me and my boys having a great experience. The friendly couple, nice room, quite a bit of snow for the kids to play in, being within walking distance of Running Springs and driving distance of Big Bear, this place was a great decision. I would certainly do it all over again and have no problems recommending Deer Creek motel. For anyone complaining about hotel/motel/cabins in the mountains, you really need to have the right mindset when you come up to the mountains to know the expectations of there are. Want something like a class A city motel for $200 plus a night then by all means go ahead into Big Bear, especially on a weekend. We came up to have fun snow tubing and just being out of the city staring at four walls, not to make fashion statements or impress people by where we were staying. I agree with most the reviewers but not sure why they'd give it 5 stars. I might except 4 stars because you do get what you pay for. The (I assume) owners are genuinely nice and accommodating. But this is the bare minimum. Water pressure is good and hot. The place was very quiet. The sheets and towels were clean. The minuses are no fridge, no coffee pot, no microwave, no blow dryer, the plug in heater took 4 hours to be effective, the decor is odd and spooky. Note to husbands, don't dare book this without your wife's blessing. For one night, only using the place to sleep, not stay a second more, then this place is tolerable. read more

Don't be fooled by the website, the paintings on the wall are actually paint on the walls from someone who thinks there Picasso but actually they're just one step away from cutting there ear off. This place is really awesome. It's comfortable and clean. We enjoyed staying here because what they did not provide in amenities, they made up for in excellent hospitality!!! We prefer excellent customer service over coffee pot in our room. It's walking distance to a great restaurant that serves breakfast/lunch/dinner/booze. Stopped here overnight during a spur of the moment trip up the mountain. It wasn't bad. The room was clean, as was the bathroom. The pillows kind of sucked and the sheets were thin but didn't effect my sleep (not much does honestly). The artwork is a little strange but that's cool; added to the place. The staff was great. We decided to take a quick last minute trip to Big Bear area on the 4th of July Weekend after family BBQ. I knew all the camping places will be booked so I called few resorts, cabin rentals, b&b and hotels. Most of them were booked and others really jacked up the price for the Holiday weekend. This place was in between the Crestline, Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear Lake so it seemed to be a perfect spot to spend a night. No pictures on the yelp kinda worried me but it was cheap $65 for 2 queens with AC so why not. It's pretty run down and all the bedsheets are mixed matched. Bathroom was clean and shower was hot with good water pressure. Pretty quiet at night with a window fully open for some cool breeze. I really cannot complain. The painted wall decor in my room was crazy though. read more

Stayed there in December 2007, It did the job. A warm room and clean room. I had to walk in the 30 degree weather 2.6 miles from Running Springs to Arrowbear. In the dark it was like 9:30pm. I would have hoped that there would have been a discount for locals. But I was out of room by 9am. To get my SUV. We were stranded last night in Running Springs on our way up to Big Bear, where we had hotel reservations, but the road was closed, so we turned around back to Running Springs. It was 5:00 and now dark. It had taken us 4 hours to get up the mountain from Orange County. Then there was an accident on the road down the mountain that closed the road according to our GPS, and it was raining and expected snow at 8:00 pm. So I finally got a wifi signal and tried to find a nearby hotel, and I found DCM. I called the number, but no one answered. I was able to book our room on Expedia and drove there, which was a mile away. There were no lights on anywhere in the entire motel, we drove around it, we called and called and no one was answering. We ran up to the door and no one answered. We decided to head down the mountain and take our chances the road would open up before the snow came in again. We lost $260 on the room in Big Bear, $140 in chains, and now this hotel ($106) that was completely unresponsive to stranded travelers in the snow. I called Expedia today and they said the hotel's person won't be answering calls today until 12:00 p.m. What a horrible property manager. Horrible customer service. So we drove home after 6 hours of driving and never got to enjoy our birthday/anniversary weekend up in the mountains. What a horrible experience. read more

Friendly manager, clean rooms - with a bit of personality, comfortable beds, all the TV channels you need, a good restaurant just across the street, a very short drive to Snow Valley, and reasonably priced. I'm pretty sure they have wifi too, but I didn't use it - so check first if that's important to you. The only thing I didn't like is the lack of blackout curtains - again, another motel on the mountain with white blinds that block almost zero light. I just don't get that (and neither does the manager, he's been lobbying the owner for blackout curtains). As one of only 2 hotels near Snow Valley, they do fill up on weekends during ski season - so be smart, make a reservation. Oh - and they don't have a website, or email - you actually have to call :-(. read more

given the fact that i am a city girl, yes, this place is bad. the exterior actually looks decent (at night). the interior, however, is just...scary. there is a fridge and microwave and some contraption to lock down the tv to the dresser although the tv is not actually on this particular contraption. here are the things that i just could not live with: -bedsheets are not plain white and do not even match on both double beds -when i flipped over 1 of the pillows, there was a dead spider on the pillowcase. we decided not to use that bed. -on the bed we did use, i used the garment bag from my luggage to cover the sheets for fear of bed bugs. yes, i actually slept on a garment bag and yes, i am short enough to fit my whole body on the garment bag. -we did not use their blankets so my boyfriend and i had to share the snuggie from his car. we got 1 snuggie arm each. although i complain a lot, i am not a complete snob. i can live with below 3-star accommodations and unlike my weirdo boyfriend, i actually got (a little) sleep the 1 night we stayed there. [he thought the place was haunted. i, however, thought (and still think) that he was just being a big baby and i do not support his claim in this review.] we were supposed to stay there 3 nights but we decided to just drive home after snowboarding. read more

I'm not quite sure what all the bad reviews are about. It's a motel, not a 5 star classy joint. I'm a born and raised city girl as well and I've stayed in down-and-dirty hostels in Sri Lanka to 5 star hotels in the States so I didn't expect much from a motel in cabin central. Even then, I thought our room had what we needed after a long day of snowboarding: a bed and a clean shower. Considering what it is expected from a motel (and I've stayed in some skeavy places), I thought the place was well-maintained and was clean. We'll be coming back for the rest of the season. We had our fire alarm beeping because the battery was low and Jim came right away to change the battery out. Both Jim and Ross who work the front desk are very friendly folks. It's in a great location and very easy to get to. Rates are excellent - especially because we don't care to spend over $100 every single time we head up to the mountains this season. Everything we needed was close by - mountain, bars, breakfast spot. FYI, ladies, if you need a hairdryer, they don't have one of those built-in ones so you have to bring your own, which I luckily did. read more

trying to plan a last minute ski vacation for my daughter, I searched "Big Bear ski area hotels" , Deep Creek Motel came up available for our last minute Holiday vacation so I called..Ross answered and was very kind. He gave me a great description of the hotel and location..Snow Vally ski resort close, basic rooms, very clean, nice warm heaters, perfect for rest after a long day on the snow...EXACTLY what we needed..the next day we arrived early, Ross was working outside shoveling snow for other guests, he ran to the office to promptly check us in...we were much earlier than check-in time but Ross noticed i wasn't feeling well and offered me an early check -in so i could rest while the kids were snowboarding... thanks to him, the next day I was feeling much better and up on the mountain with the girls... the room was clean, basic, 2 queen beds, no hair dryers so bring your own, nicely painted room with pigs, cows, horses and other farm animals on the walls, a great heater that warmed us and dried snowboarding gear, clean bathrooms, WiFi if you ask for it, and apparently anything else you may need just ask (even a band-aid). I found this hotel to be very comfortable for the price (one price by the way..tax included!!) . I found the staff to be better than owners, helping guests dig cars out of snow as well as assisting in putting chains on cars if needed..apparently Running Springs is the CA we all wish it would it would still be.. nice people, helpful and willing to serve..we will come back!
