Had the most delicious latte here. I tried the pecan pie latte which was part of their fall menu. It was creamy and had the perfect amount of sweetness. I also tried the pumpkin pie pop tart. Monthly Wine Tastings Black Kite hosts a wine tasting on the 2nd Thursday of each month. It was a nice atmosphere not a lot of people maybe about 20 in total I had a tiny bit of food. I don't know how long they've been around but I've only discovered them recently while dropping off my daughter at her school. It's in dowbtown, Toledo, near a high school so I presume they get a lot more traffic in the afternoon than in the morning. The location and the parking situation isn't the most convenient in my opinion. My usual time of visit is around 8am, and I barely see customers in there. I've gotten their "specialty" coffees and their seasonal ones multiple times, and they have all been great. Personal favorite is the Aztec Mocha, which is a spicy cafe mocha. There aren't too many places with spicy coffee options around town so any time I want a spicy coffee, my go-to will have to be here. All the other coffees I've gotten were good, too. read more

Another weekend, another coffee shop! This one has a very cute exterior and the inside is surprisingly spacious and bright! I was greeted right away upon arrival and given some great recommendations by the barista! I ended up ordering the Ohio Honey Lavender which was delicious. It is sweet but not overwhelming, and perfect for a cold rainy morning. I also got a breakfast ball which were made fresh. The one i got was stuffed with cream cheese with roasted red peppers. It was the perfect amount of soft and chewy! They have a variety of options from veg to gluten free in their pastries and snacks. They also have a meat pie and veggie pie which I would love to go back and try. A fall menu was also available. My one complaint was the lack of clarity on where to park. It seems like they have some street parking right in front but it wasn't very clear and on a busy day I can imagine those spots fill up quick. Can't wait to come back! read more

He makes sure he stops at this Café/Small restaurant. I went in to get something specific, what I wanted was a seasonal item. It had just he right amount of spice to kick start my afternoon. My husband ordered the bullet and it's name doesn't lie. It packed quite the punch! To pair off our coffees, we ordered the bagel ball (parsley, cream cheese & bell peppers) & cheesecake cinnamon roll. During the weekends on Saturday & Sunday from 10am to 2pm, they have a mighty tasty looking brunch menu. Stopped in on a Sunday morning. The restaurant appeared clean, and was uncluttered. The decor was unique. I got a honey lavender latte which was good, but a little underwhelming on the lavender notes. I also got a breakfast ball which was unique and delicious. I've never had anything quite like that before-essentially a bagel filled with cream cheese, egg and sausage. The staff was not super friendly, nor outgoing. I frequent Black Kite Coffee quite often and have always been pleased with the service and menu items. Lattes are always on point and I'm always greeted with a smile. But that's not what keeps me coming back. What keeps me coming back is their weekend brunch. I love that the menu changes every week. You can expect a delicious seasonal plate of deliciousness. This past weekend I came for the Buttermilk Pancakes. Ordered my with sweet potatoes, bacon, and marshmallow sauce. Ugh! It was so good!! Best pancakes I've had to date. They were that good. Worth every penny. I also ordered the quesadillas which had sweet potatoes, grilled poblanos, toasted pepitas, and rosemary pesto in it. Very good! I loved it! Brunch hours are Saturday and Sunday 10am-2pm. Check their Facebook page for weekly menu updates. Black Kite also has a cool atmosphere to study or get somework done. Neat little shop. Simple enough. They don't overcrowd their menu with frozen lala shnippy fufu coffee. For that reason I like it! I had just a mug of black coffee. It was pretty tasty. Smooth, not bitter. I also had a cream cheese cinnamon roll--need I say more? This would be a good place to meet someone since it's HUGE. a lot of options for sitting. My reason for not giving it that final star was that it was really hot. Today it's 95 outside, and a "cool 85" in the shop. Invest in better AC. I live within walking distance of the black kite so I do come in quite often. I had a bit of time before I had to go into work this afternoon so I decided to stop by and try one of the Brunch options featured by The Olive and to say I'm disappointed is an understatement. One one hand it's great that The Olive can showcase themselves before they eventually open for business the fact that whoever cooked this not only can't cook a simple pancake correctly but also thought this was ok to give to a customer. When I was walking out I noticed someone who was dining in pancakes also looked a bit dark but I thought maybe that's what they may have wanted. I was looking forward to the Olive opening up, have been for the past year but the fact there's cooks making burnt pancakes and selling them to guests thinking is ok raises some concerns about the food quality and presentation standards that are clearly lacking for a place that has not even opened yet. read more

My boyfriend and I were visiting Toledo for the weekend for a concert. Before we hit the road back to the Burgh, we wanted to check out a local coffee shop, instead of all of the chain coffee places we would be passing on the turnpike. Considering there are basically NO coffee shops in Toledo that are open on Sundays (what's up with that?!), we thought we would check out Black Kite Coffee & Pies. The yelp reviews were promising as well =]. There is a parking lot- which is really nice. Especially for an out-of-towner who doesn't know the area well enough to determine how "great" an area is. The building appeared to house multiple businesses and had a huge mural on the side of it. Very pretty. The shop itself is adorable. Open windows, decent in size, children's books in the corner, pillows on a windowsill, art everywhere- really cute. It was also super busy- their brunch was going on and basically every table was full. Considering we had free breakfast at our hotel in the morning, we didn't have brunch, but everything looked awesome. The line wasn't too terrible and gave me some time to decide on what I wanted. The donuts they had displayed looked amazing- they were from, Holey Toledough and the descriptions were mouthwatering. I attempted to order the "Best Donut Ever" but was informed that they were out. When I asked if the "Apple Fritter" was available, the employee responded, "If it's up there, we have it" with a straight face. What kind of answer is that? Considering I have never been to Toledo & both of the local businesses that I visited had somewhat miserable employees.. what am I to assume about Toledo? That the people are miserable, right? I digress. We ordered a 16oz. hot coffee, the apple fritter donut and a 16oz iced caramel latte. When my boyfriend went to fill up the coffee cup he was handed, he had two choices- African and Nigerian I think? Either way- it was just the name that was listed- not a description of what the coffee tasted like. Not very helpful. The iced caramel latte was strong- which I liked and the apple fritter donut was AWESOME. I would have loved to have visited Holey Toledough myself to see what other donut options they have. Overall, this is a cute place and I love the concept of serving brunch in a coffee shop. The pies looked delicious, as did their actual brunch items. I just advise the miserable employee to lighten up a bit. Deducting two stars for the miserable employee & the lack of descriptions on the coffee. Otherwise, it's an adorable coffee shop. read more

I like the fact this is not Starbucks and is a private establishment and is in an older building. I always seek these type of places but overall I was not impressed. The cafe itself wasn't that clean, and the bagel and breakfast sandwich was below average in taste. The coffee we had, an Americano and cappuccino were not bad with cappuccino being the better of the two. But the coffee and food price vs taste/quality of environment was to high in my opinion. I love urban cafes even when gritty, but there needs to be great food and coffee and an environment that is appealing. I will probably go back once in a while but not regularly and try some other coffees but have to admit I was a bit disappointed. Dec.10th UPDATE I visited 3 more times and have a similar conclusion. The sausage and cornbread brunch special was very good but hamburger so so. The regular coffee is quite good. The service was generally not friendly. I had one person that was friendly out of 5 visits to the counter total during these 3 visits. It is worth a try, it has an urban atmosphere which is nice and good regular coffee, but they definitely have room for improvement. read more

What a nice hidden gem! It's great that they are kid friendly! On Saturday mornings (1st -3rd) they have a preschool program for toddlers. (Dates may have changed). They also participated in restaurant week which is why we stopped in. The $10 meal included coffee, soup and a choice of a salad or meat/veggie pie. The cream of artichoke soup was so delicious! I have only been here once, but my experience was SO GOOD. The staff was patient and kind. The coffee was SO good, and they offer vegan options! They have a stamp card for a free reward. The shop is decent sized and the have plenty of seating at both tables and couches. People there were dressed in business clothes, casual clothes and business casual so it was a very good mix. I dressed down and I was completely comfortable there. I will absolutely return here! I love the vibe and atmosphere there. Currently my favorite coffee shop in Toledo! Okay, okay. I know I've only been here once. But it was a great experience! And I think the fact that they opened up in historic OWE neighborhood is such a good call. Upon entrance I was blown away by the friendly greeting from the staff, high ceilings, exposed brick and open windows. I really dig the atmosphere and urban ambiance and just how they embrace everything local. Like Badger Brunch last Saturdays of the month? It's on my list to try! And they have Jeni's ice cream! Blergh. I love you already. Ordered one of their specialty lattes...Honey Coconut Latte. It was a little too sweet for my liking...my barista might've overloaded on the honey not realizing just how sweet it is. But that's something that can be fixed. And per Dustin H. they have iced coffee from keggars?! Why didn't I read his review prior to ordering?! I really like this place. And see myself returning.
