New location yelp. Now its housed in a shopping plaza on the edge of UT campus. Parking is in the back of the plaza. There is plenty of it however this may be a problem for less abled body persons. Most of the folks that come here during the week have been coming for years and years so are not as young as they used to be. Not really anywhere to drop them off. When I came in there was no one at the front entrance so I proceeded to the please seat me sign. I literally stood there longer than it took my food to come out. There were maybe 10 tables. Still work to be done here. Smaller than the old location with tables and booths all within view as you stand there. I was ready to order by the time the server made it to my table to take my drink order and I'm one to waffle over my orde for a bit. Friendly server and efficient once she got started. Got pancakes sausage eggs n potatoes. All came hot and tasty. And you know what? When i put the butter on top it actually melted. Yum. They bring the credit card machine to your table and the server does it all leading to that uncomfortable moment of do you want to leave a tip? Suggest you bring cash for the tip so you can leave what you would like without awkwardness. Give it a few months to get up to speed and drop your less able folks as you enter the lot. I've been an Uncle John's fan for many years, a Toledo tradition. So when they moved I thought one more landmark was gone. I finally went to their new location today for breakfast. We were settled immediately and our waitress came over and introduced herself and took our drink order. When our drinks came we placed our order. Food came in an orderly manner (hot) and was prepared very well. The ambiance was just like I remembered. A lot of the same items, even the boat hanging from the ceiling in the side room. For those who remember it there's still a lot of the same old but a lot of the new. The wait staff all seemed happy to be there but a special shout-out to our waitress Anyssa. GREAT JOB! The decor in the restaurant was nostalgic to look at while dining. The food was okay when you consider the prices were really cheap. I had the pecan waffle, I was really hoping for them to be cooked in the waffle but unfortunately they were not. My hubby had the waffle with bananas on top, which was okay. Man has this place truly changed over the years. Back when I first started going to the old location 15 years ago it was easily one of my favorite breakfast spots in town. It was a long trek from the parking lot for us senior citizens, did not know this when coming for the first time. Our table was sticky all over with pancake syrup. We each ordered coffee, one decafe and one regular. The decafe was SO strong my husband could not drink it. My regular was also strong but I use cream so thought it would be OK. As soon as I poured in the cream it was floating on top in clumps...soured. I sniffed the other tiny cups on table and all were spoiled so we ate without coffee. The food was pretty good, waitress was nice but we will not return. She took our credit card and headed to the front door out of site. We learned upon leaving that is where she ran the card. We will never go there again! My Uncle and I stood @ the front waiting to be seated, no one greeted us for close to 5 mins. One waitress walked right by us to cash out a customer leaving , she never said anything to us, she did say hi to the couple cashing out. When she came up to us finally, I asked if we could have one of the 2 booths in the corner, she was reaching for the menu's @ the that time, she looks up @ me and says I have to get the menu's first. Disappointed that they don't offer real maple syrup (just that fake high fructose corn syrup crap) and the fruit bowl was terrible, the strawberries tasted like they came out of a can with syrup... While the food and service are completely unmemorable, the atmosphere is always guaranteed to be strange. A time-capsule from a 1980's movie you didn't know you were looking for, there is no question you're either going to love this place or be completely indifferent to it, and I'm the latter. The food is average at best and plated with no concern for the eye, but the prices are fine and as long as there is not a line out the front door, the service is usually pretty quick. Regardless if it is actually clean, the dark walls and dim lighting give a sense that the restaurant is pretty dingy, and the pop culture references on the walls are so out of date, your great uncle will really be happy if you take him for some pancakes. But do yourself a favor, if you're not going to order the snoopy peanut butter omelet, and take your business and your great uncle next door to the Original Pancake House. Today we say GOODBYE to what used to be our "FAVORITE" Breakfast place! This morning We arrived at 9:38 was seated rite away.. 10 minutes went by and a waitress finally came and took our drink order.. Then after a few minutes we put In our FIRST food order. I ordered the portobello mushroom Benedict eggs poached HARD. Fiancé ordered The hungries breakfast it comes with two eggs he added a "third" and ordered extra crispy John's. Food came out.. My eggs were RUNNY far from poached HARD.. He received 2 eggs not 3 his potatoes looked like mashed potatoes instead of John's potato cooked extra crispy. So our waitress comes over we explain this issue she comes back with the "owner" she says she is going to go in the kitchen and get everything squared away.. At this point my fiancé says he will just do the Same meal as mine only difference is he will take his eggs poached soft instead of hard. The "owner" says she is going to the kitchen and going to talk to the kitchen and make sure it comes out correctly... So we wait another 20 minutes. The waitress along with table busters are apologizing at this point while we are waiting asking if we need anything because we have been there so long and everything is going wrong. Our food comes out a 2nd time My eggs we're not perfect but I was just going to roll with the punches and not be picky until I looked over at my fiancés plate and realize he's got a long dark hair mixed in the sauce before he even touched his plate.. At this point It's been a hour and we are really trying to give them the benefit of the doubt because things do happen.. So after the waitress takes the plate with the hair on it to the "owner", we sit for 10 minutes waiting to see what she says.. The "owner" walks up and says I been busy there's a lot going on proceeds to look at me and asks me did I even try my food....? My fiancé explains the hair in the food situation and that my eggs are wrong again and even if my food was ok we shouldn't have to eat at different times because of their mistakes. So she Says ok what can I do to make this situation better for you.. We said we know things happen and we will order our food again, because we normally do not have problems and have been loyal customers since the original location, so she went to the kitchen.. and after another 20/25 minutes we get our food for the 3rd time. Not only are my eggs wrong AGAIN, My fiancé has ANOTHER hair in his food this time it is a short black hair. We ask for the owner once again she comes to the table with the nastiest attitude and my fiancé explains there is yet another hair in a "new" plate after we have sat here over a hr and a half. She replies we aren't going to be able to serve you today....? I'm absolutely flabbergasted this is really how you handle your establishment. You keep making mistakes and we are trying to work with you and tell you we understand things happen and all you can say after almost 2 hours of a extra terrible experience is that "we can't serve You" I managed in food for almost 10 years so I totally get things happen but you should be ashamed of yourself. After the second time you should have taken control went to the kitchen and made it your self to make sure it didn't happen again but instead you as the "owner" let the same thing happen a THIRD time and want to bring your nasty attitude back to the table and say you can't serve us? Absolutely mind blowing. You should be ashamed to tell anyone you are the owner of any establishment the way you handled things this morning. I highly recommend you seek help with some Customer service classes because you are definitely lacking serious skills. McDonald's has better service than what we received this morning. We love Uncle Johns, it's been our go to breakfast place ever since I was little! The restaurant itself is a bit small, but it's always jam packed with goodness. I usually get the strawberry crepes with a side of bacon and though they may not be authentic French crepes, they're to die for! The waitresses are usually super prompt and come by multiple times to make sure you don't need a refill on coffee or some more creamer. The only qualm I had about my last visit was that the hostess was very rude and short with our party. I understand that we had four people and that the wait was 30 minutes, but we weren't complaining! I know the amount of people that come in must be frustrating during the rush, but she shouldn't be taking it out on the customers. Pro-Tip: Get here early in the morning when they open or around 1:30 to avoid the rush! read more

They have an extensive menu full of choices sure to please everyone. Try one of their great breakfasts, pancakes are especially good and they have a delicious Friday Fish Fry. Presentation can be a little dated. This is not an upscale joint. Sometimes diner food is just ok, but when they get it right it soars. If you are a mushroom lover like I am, you must get the fried mushrooms. It's enough for a meal: crisply battered large fresh mushrooms, served with both ranch and cocktail sauce.
