They had a decent selection and a oyster bar in the back so they shuck it fresh and they came with a variety of sauces although I prefer my oysters simple with a light squirt of lemon juice. We got the tuna carpaccio, the mussels, and roasted cauliflower. Everything was delicious - the sauce for the mussels was so flavorful perfect to dunk bread in. The carpaccio tasted fresh and the serving size decent - perfect for sharing. The cauliflower were roasted beautiful and the saltiness of the anchovies went very well with the vegetable. We had the seasonal pie for dessert - it was topped off with ice cream. Nothing like a warm pastry with a scoop of ice cream. I was recommended this restaurant by a friend and it was amazing. We ordered the lobster roll, lamb tartare, and oysters (half dozen random ones) and everything was amazing. From the main entree to even the sides of fries, we were super satisfied with the food. The lobster roll contained at least 4 meaty claws and filled me up. Usually lobster rolls with meat of this quality leave me pretty unsatisfied in terms of quantity, but no complaints at all from me. Delicious oysters that were incredibly fresh and the price was very reasonable. However if I had to recommend one dish, it would absolutely be the lamb tartare. I love sushi just as much as anyone, I could eat it every single day if I could, but when it comes to tartare, I am less enthusiastic. If it were up to me, I definitely would not have ordered the tartare, but it was my girlfriend's call. Tartare is one of her favorite dishes and she almost always orders it at a restaurant. So needless to say, my feedback of this tartare is quite out of the ordinary, but it really is that good. With the rise in modern brasserie/small plate type joints in Boston, Black Lamb has really found its footing in the cozy South End of Boston. Having just opened just a month ago, I was dying to try this place out (just take a look at the menu - everything looks modern and just slightly adventurous). I tried the lamb chops and the crab Louis dish. The crab was buttery, had some avocados, topped with microgreens. Plating was very beautiful and hip - my only qualm was there were bits of crab shell in the meat. Taste was great though! The lamb chops were glistening and cooked perfectly medium rare. There was an abundance of fat, and the meat was juicy. The colors on the plate really popped, with the couscous and peppers and apricot salsa topping the lamb. The couscous was rich, with bits of feta cheese mixed in. I'm excited to take my boyfriend here and try some of the other dishes I had been eyeing - namely the lamb tartare and the blue fin tuna carpaccio! The only reason I docked off a star was due to the shell bits in the crab dish and there wasn't really one dish that had a huge WOW factor. I am planning on returning to try the other dishes though and hopefully will revise this review soon! read more

Really excited for this spot! Two weeks in and already pretty impressive. The space is light and airy with a lively buzz. Wine list was really well done - we had a bomb sparkling rose from the Jura and pinot from Willamette. Didn't delve into the cocktails but they lean pretty classic. Food-wise: Excellent: - tuna poke with macadamia nuts (best dish of the night) - salmon tartare (really nice with dill) - heirloom tomato salad with cloumage and basil (super delicious and fresh - TONS of basil which was awesome) - corn bisque with lobster - key-lime pie - perfectly done Really good: - Cheeseburger - Cheese plate Fine: - Lamb chops - had high hopes here but was overcooked for medium rare and didn't really wow. Would try one of the other entrees instead (ie duck breast frites) Would skip for now: - Cauliflower with anchovy and grapefruit - flavors were a bit too discordant A few jitters to be expected for a new place - on our go around: no butter with the parker house cheddar rolls (which were so good they didn't really need it, but would have made them extra decadent), cheese plate laid down without any description or utensils (though the manager quickly came over to guide us through). My go to spot for oysters! The oysters are $1 everyday until 5 which is such a great deal. My favorite oysters they offer are definitely the Sand Dunes. Their drinks are also great and my favorite dishes include the artichoke dip and the cheeseburger!! The ambiance is great as well and service has always been attentive every time I've gone. Sometimes it's important for staff to be clear that the WAY a breakdown is handled is often more important to the guest than the breakdown itself. That's the case here. We were greeted with professional courtesy, genuine friendliness and a willingness to accommodate any reasonable request. We asked to be placed where there was minimum exposure to others due to our age, and they gladly complied. We ordered a bottle of wine and food. And then things went downhill. There were quite a few minor breakdowns - no big deal - but they weren't handled well. EXAMPLE: We clearly got the "bottom" of the last batch of fries. You know what that looks like - nothing longer than a couple of inches and most everything one inch and below in size. And dark brown. When I pointed that out, the staffer said that she'd ask the chef if that was typical. That was the last we saw of her, and we were there another 20+ minutes. She had turned us over to someone else. On the plus side, they did try to replace the fries, but it was too late - we were already full, having finished the rest of our food. Had they telescoped that they would replace the fries, maybe we'd have wanted them. When I mentioned to the host on the way out that it was odd that the staffer had disappeared after our complaint, she got defensive. Professional, but defensive in a way that lets you know that you're not really being heard. She was a nice person, and I'm sure that she was just trying to explain, but it didn't work. P.S. If the word "lamb" is in your name, you know that your guests will expect a great lamb burger. It was okay. Since we were there for lunch, I suspect that there might be some great lamb chops in our future. I hope so, but the burger needs a "re-think". read more

My friend and I came here for an early dinner. We sat in the outside patio area, which was cute. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. Menu is pretty limited but the food we got was good. My friend got the $1 oysters since it was still before 5pm and I got the hamburger. I ordered the cheeseburger since that was the only option on the menu for burgers but asked if I could get it without cheese. However, they brought me the burger with cheese on it. The waitress was very apologetic though and brought me a new burger. The burger itself was yummy and the fries were delicious. I came here recently for a nice Sunday brunch with friends. I got the egg sandwich and cinnamon roll, and would recommend both (especially the cinnamon roll if you want to indulge). *long post - this is mainly a review on service* I became a Duke according to Yelp because of how often I come to black lamb, and Almost all my experiences here were wonderful because I ended up with Durcio as my waiter. However, this time I had another waiter, who actually was my first waiter the first time I came awhile back. The first time I came to black lamb, the server was already rude and off-putting. The moment we sat down, he goes "kitchen closes in 30 minutes what do you guys want" and we were all just taken aback by his "customer service". We were mainly there for oysters so we asked does that include dollar oysters and he goes yes. Mind you we came at 3pm and they had oysters until 5. After ordering and finishing, we tried to order more oysters before the "30 minute" and when we asked again he goes dollar oysters are from opening until 5pm, making it seem like we couldn't read the menu when he blatantly told us, but we just brushed it off because he could have had an off day. However, yesterday when I went, I immediately recognized him and he was our server again. At first he was okay, he came and took our order. He wasn't friendly but at that moment he wasn't rude either. After finishing our first round of oysters, and finishing the water, we asked for 6 more dozen oysters and water. He was immediately taken aback and questioned/scoffed "6 more DOZEN oysters?". He didn't say it for clarity, but in a judging manner. We all felt uncomfortable at this point so we asked for water later, and when we asked he literally just stared blankly and didn't say anything. At this point im like okay what is this dude's problem, just because all the waiters were friendly and nice, and my group wasn't being annoying or obnoxious or even loud. We literally came to eat and it was 90 degrees so we literally just sat there eating. Another thing I noticed at the end was there was auto-gratuity of 20%. NEVER have I had had auto-gratuity here and I have always went with 6 people. He definitely did not deserve 20% but we just paid and left it. The server's name was Kenny J, and just incase that is not the correct name, I believe it is the older gentleman waiter, as everyone else was relatively younger. He absolutely made our experience terrible because we felt like we were bothering him. If people were to go and make reservations, I would highly suggest asking for durcio to by your server or honestly any other server (I have only had Kenny and Durcio), but by interactions with other staff they all seem nice. Not sure if I will be back because of this interaction but if I do, I will make sure to request a specific server. read more

Amazing service!!! My friends and I came in for a late dinner and drinks. As we stood near the bar waiting for our table a male employee came up to us and took our drink order so we didn't have to wait or hover over people at the bar to order. It was super busy so I was pleasantly surprised that he was available to take our order! Once we got our table, service was very quick and efficient. Our server was consistent with water refills and checked in on us often. It was probably the best service I've had in a long time at a restaurant. Came here on a weekday night for drinks and dinner. As expected street parking is difficult in the south end. Service was fantastic, the food we got was decent and drinks were yummy. We had the Lamb burger and they were nice enough to cut it in half and served it to us on two separate plates. The lamb wasn't too gamey and the Calabrian Chile whipped feta balanced out the lamb. The bottom bun was quite soggy and I wished it wasn't- I guess all that juice from a medium patty got soaked! We also got the crispy mushrooms. They were tempura mushrooms with aioli sauce. Cute and chill (relatively) new addition to the South End! I've been seeing a lot of things about Black Lamb on their brunch- so I had to check it out myself. Right away I was drawn by the interior and the cozy velvet seats. Super glad their menu was simple and one page, but containing a great number of options. What we got: Corn Madeleines: SO GOOD!! PLEASE GET THIS I PROMISE THEY ARE DELICIOUS!!!! Super light and fluffy and had the perfect sweet/savory ratio. I could literally eat these allll day. The plate came with 8 Madeleines Potato Rōsti: Perfect amount of lox. The waitress told us this was more of a side dish, but if you pair this with some coffee bread or a sweet side, you can honestly make this the main meal! Loved the crunch from the potatoes Lobster Omelette- Big bits of lobster with every bite. Definitely getting your money's worth AND it comes with home fries!! French Toast- Just your typical French toast and berries! Almost forgot about the oysters but how could I when they just became some of my favorites?? We got the Warren's Cove and Beach Point and they were the perfect size and taste YUM One thing to note is that they don't really have a coffee menu, but they do have basic coffee- so thankful for that iced coffee hehe. The clam dip was pretty good and flavorful. I had a piece of my boyfriends food and the fries are super salty but editable. I ordered the lemon poppy waffle and it had a hint of lemon in it which was different and I personally liked it. The oysters however could've been shucked better because there were a lot of shell pieces in each oyster. I had to constantly take shell pieces out of my mouth.
