Amazing food and BEST customer service we've ever had!! Would give this place 6 stars if I could.

I am not vegan, but I like good food. Black Leaf Vegan certainly delivers that. I had a wonderful quesadilla with jackfruit and my wife had a jackfruit slider with mac and cheese. Everything was excellent. What stood out to me in particular, though, was their dedication to their work and their customers. I was there because I was watching the eclipse at a nearby park with family and friends. Given its proximity to the park, the cafe was slammed with customers the several times I was there. Each of the staff was working their tails off to deliver the orders for the many people that were waiting. Despite the pressure, the staff was attentive and cheerful. There were a few testy customers complaining about the wait, but the staff handled them with grace and courtesy. I was very impressed! They deserve your business! read more

I believe they may have gave me the wrong burger possibly but I remember the crab burger was definitely not a black bean burger, but I was on my lunch break, in a hurry and could not return it. So I ate it, but I was underwhelmed. I missed the original crab burger. I still feel a ways about it. Plus the Mac had a block of cheese in it. read more

I used to live in Indy and was visiting for the day. I stumbled across Black Leaf Vegan Cafe while looking on Yelp for options. I did not hesitate to go given it was new to me and had the added bonus of being vegan since I can't eat dairy/eggs. The place is very nice with ample seating. The lady working was related to the owners and is extremely kind and wonderful. She told me it used to be just a food truck and now they have their own location. I tried the loaded nachos which were unique but delicious and filling. Very large portions for that in specific. I then tried the Vita Verde smoothie with pea protein - it had spinach, apple, and pineapple in it. It was fantastic. I would definitely come back if I lived in Indy and will look out for it when I visit. It is close to the canal as well if someone wanted to get a drink or snack and then walk. I attended the jazz performance on May 20th and it was my first time attending the restaurant. I must say the music was awesome. However, the service from the staff was awful. I am unable to offer comments on the quality of the food or drink because it was nearly impossible to get an order filled. The entire team seemed to be disorganized and unable to accomplish simple tasks such as preparing a smoothie or cooking a burger in a reasonable amount of time. I was told it would take more than 30 minutes to prepare a burger! my assessment of the chaos and disorientation starts from the top. The gentleman who self identified as the owner needs to fix his attitude. His customers were rightfully frustrated with the inability of the staff to complete an order in a timely manner and the owner responded to customers in a rude and condescending manner. I witnessed this on several occasions. When it came time for me to place my order I was told I could not order a burger, although at least eight were visibly cooking on the griddle. When pressed on way I couldn't get a burger his reply to me was because they were not supposed to be selling them! But they were selling burgers. Anyway I returned to my seat and enjoyed the music. Other customers were still waiting for the meals after the show was over and many said they had been waiting for the food they purchased for over an hour. Totally unacceptable and a prime example of a restaurant owner who was disorganized and unprepared for the crowd that came out to enjoy and afternoon of food and music. a crowd that came out to support a locally owned black business. I am giving them one star because of the music only. Next time the owners need to be prepared to serve the customers who patronize their business with courtesy and a clear goal of providing excellent service- not the mess that was delivered on Sunday, May 20, 2023. read more

Laid back vibe, but an intense, delicious foodie experience. This vegan cafe has been in our radar since they opened, and we finally made our way to their amazingly welcoming space today for lunch. Glad to have the vegan restaurant as an option since there are very few in Indy. However the menu is limited and foods are more heated up than cooked. I ordered the nachos which were topped with bagged coleslaw mix and drenched with sauces with minimal chips. The "grounds" seem to be premade patties that are chopped up with what felt like no additional nacho inspired seasonings. read more

We visited Black Leaf Vegan today for the first time and they did not disappoint! Recently diagnosed with cancer again we have focused on improving our health. It's great to know there is a local restaurant that is focused on providing healthy, tasty vegan food and that it's black owned. Highly recommend, the service was great and the vibe was laid back! the owners of this restaurants are liars and manipulators. They are scammers. They do not pay their employees their tips they take money out of their employees checks. They're not that nice to work for they overwork you and don't have enough staff. It's supposed to be a family friendly place to go, but most of the staff that works there are family and they treat them horribly. This makes it hard to support black businesses. they get all of these grants from Big named people like Kevin Hart and Indianapolis Pacers and still don't pay their employees on time or what they were supposed to get we recently experienced this. They took money out of one of their employees checks saying that they're not gonna like the way they handle the disagreement that they had multiple fights with family at the establishment some of them becoming physical. This is not a great place to go. If you were looking for a peaceful moment, the employees are not happy because they're not being paid. Let me know what I could do next to get this place shut down, they do not deserve to have their own business read more

I can best describe my experience at BLV in two words - OUT...........STANDING!!! From the quaint open air bistro with comfortable seating, relaxing ambience and very, very friendly owner/chef/mystery smoothie maker to the unbelievably delicious vegan fare - not to say vegan food can't be great but I just couldn't believe the Bacon Cesar Burger I ordered that didn't have either bacon nor burger in it! It was fantastic!! My wife ordered the Crabless Crab Cakes that she's still raving about and we split a Vegan Loaded Nacho appetizer, every bite better than the one before! My wife and a few of her friends enjoyed their visit a week earlier so we couldn't wait to began our date night here. We were NOT disappointed, a must visit Indianapolis spot! read more

I'm not a vegan, but just like good food. The brat was so good that I'd bet anything they serve is good. It smelled and tasted like a good brat. Not only that, the owners are wonderful, too! I see some reviews saying it is pricey but I don't agree. They are less or at least no more expensive than other food trucks I've seen, especially for specialty food.
