I am not sure which is the best location of this local chain, but this one certainly had an ample line. Having said that, it was pretty well run and after waiting in line I found two registers waiting and was able to order a variety of baked goods and a fresh sandwich, which were prepared for me quite speedily. I wouldn't expect to be in and out immediately at peak times, but for me it was maybe forty-five minutes to wait in line, get food, and eat my sandwich. They offer good options for special dietary needs. The vegan sandwich is based on Old Bay marinated tofu, and they are not kidding about that. It is really, really Old Bay flavored. The tomato and avocado livens things up, but honestly the best part of the sandwich was still the sourdough bread, which is fair enough for a bakery. The spread of pastries I acquired was resplendent in quality and variety, and I will be happy to continue trying out all the Black Market locations to see which one is the most convenient. read more

Came here today around 10:30 AM with my wife for our first visit and did takeout. I'm really glad she dragged me out the house for this one. We ordered the oatmeal pie, almond croissant, wildberry danish, Black Market bun, lemonade blueberry scone, and a caramel cappuccino. Ordering took maybe 4 minutes, and our food was already being bagged while we were ringing up. The drink took another 3 minutes, which was more than reasonable considering how busy they were. What really stood out was the customer service. The guy behind the counter found out it was our first time and immediately gave us a free scone, then took his time explaining how everything works. He walked us down the line, explained what each baked good was, pointed out the most popular items, and even shared his personal favorites. As busy as they were, they still made sure we felt taken care of. There was also a young lady bagging orders who jumped in and out of conversation while working--just as friendly and welcoming. Service like that is refreshing and definitely made an impression. He jokingly asked if he'd see us next weekend... and yeah, we'll definitely be back. The shop was clean, noise level was moderate, and there are a few tables if you get there early or get lucky, but most people seemed to be ordering to go. Lighting was good, and I didn't really notice any music. Price-wise, everything felt more than fair for the quality. They told us everything is cooked fresh daily and they basically go until they sell out--which makes sense given how much business they were doing. The food was excellent: fresh, flavorful, and a great mix of sweet and savory. Honestly, the only regret I had was not trying the breakfast sandwiches--we watched a few being made and they looked serious. Overall, this was an all-around great visit. A friend gifted me some goodies from this bakery, and I recently found myself in the area so I had to go and check it out myself. I went at 2 PM on Christmas Eve, so I was concerned that there would either be a ridiculously long line or they wouldn't have much. When I arrived, I found a parking space easily. As I expected, there was a line out the door. It moved pretty quickly. I was very happy to see that they still had quite a bit of items available. Everything was absolutely amazing. So delicious. I kept seeing Black Market Bakers on IG, and I happened to be up early one day, so I decided to go. My plan was to arrive on the early side, as apparently the line is often out the door. I arrived right before they opened at 6:30am, and there were already a handful of people waiting. Once they opened, 2 people were taking orders, so things went rather quickly. I was not a fan of the chai tea latte, but the pastries were great! I got an almond croissant which was HUGE and one of the best I've had. I also got their King Cake Cream Bun, which was a special for Mardi Gras, and that was delicious! Customer service was lovely, and there are seating areas inside and outside if you want to enjoy your goodies there. Black market was so good it should be sold on the black market. Everything was out of this world delicious. All of the pastries baked to perfection. Every cream and filled oozed out and I felt like a little kid trying to navigate eating it. The one that blew me away was the frosted cinnamon roll. I don't think I've ever had one that frosted, gooey, and balanced with cinnamon. If you are on the savory side of things, the ham and cheese croissant was also heavenly. The people working the line were very knowledgeable about the breads and other treats available. I do wish there were signs to identify the desserts because the two items I wanted from the "specials" list weren't available. I was told that what is out is all they had left, which is fine but I didn't know what was what. I ordered a White Mocha Latte with oat milk which wasn't really sweet but it was good. I settled for a chai croissant and chocolate peanut butter croissant for later. They were huge but I didn't like either one. They both had unexpected filling on the inside that has a weird texture and ruined the croissants for me. The shop was nice and felt welcoming. I got the egg sandwich here in March, it's now December and I am still thinking about it almost every day. First off, this place has a great selection of breads and bakery treats. I came in after a redeye to BWI and bought just about one of everything and can't think of one bad pastry. I especially loved their seasonal savory, some sort of goat cheese asparagus tart. The egg sandwich was awesome: choosing your bread, cheese, and egg made me feel like I had the full run of the bakery. They post the menu in a few places while you're in line, in order to expedite the process, since that have some items that are in addition to those that are typically offered. While I was in line, I could also see some sandwiches and ttried a couple of those as well. Coffee cake - Huge, soft, great flavor Salted caramel cruffin - Salted caramel is my weakness and this, in particular, is one of my fave items. It's huge, has great cream on top, and the cream and salted caramel in the center is delicious. The actual croissant part was flakey and crisp. It gets messy, but I don't mind at all. Mozz sandwich - First off, the focaccia is flavorful and slightly crunchy but still soft. The tomatoes and mozz were fresh and the arugula was a perfect addition. I also took some bites of the bro's ham & cheese on a baguette. The flavors just worked with the mustard and pickles. Simple, tasty. If you don't like baguettes, don't get this. In my initial review for the BMB food truck spot in 2021, I said "Believe the hype! It's all true." The same goes for their brick-and-mortar spot in Edgewater. On the weekends, the line is out the door and down the sidewalk, so be prepared to wait. I like to go on Wednesdays or Thursdays around lunch time when they're not as busy. They are open every day of the week except for Tuesday. Follow them on social media (Facebook and Instagram) to see what goodies/specials they have for the week. They have seating indoors and outside in front of their store. Tables are hard to come by when they're busy. Their standard menu offers various breakfast sandwiches and avocado toast, as well as their daily specials, classics, and bread specials. The butter croissant and chocolate croissants are my favorite. I also love their savory pastries. Earlier this year, they started offering sandwiches after 10:30am: ham, gruyere and cornichon with mustard on baguette, caprese sandwich, and a chicken salad sandwich. Each sandwich is delicious, but the chicken salad sandwich is the best. The addition of golden raisins adds a pop of sweetness, and I don't even like raisins! I've been patronizing this business since 2021 and have no plans to stop. Finally made it here, and Black Market Bakers did not disappoint. I'm a sucker for bread and sweet and savory items. I purchased an assortment of pastries, blueberry muffins, mango scones, and snickerdoodle cookies. I really wanted a cuffin, but they were sold out by the time I got to the register. Oh well, another reason for me to make another trip. On my way out, I noticed they had some lunch sandwiches. I was tempted to go back and purchased what looked like a chicken salad sandwich on croissant, but i decided against it as I had already spent about $50. I waited until I got home to eat my first pastry. It was a blueberry strudel with a flaky crust. It was delicious, filling, and satisfying! I missed my window to get some Strawberry Guava Danishes. I asked the staff when we need to arrive to get some. They told me to come before 10:30 AM. I arrived before 10 AM the next day and they had them available. They even told me how many they had left, 15. I bought 6! They have some of the most unique pastries I have ever tasted! This place is a foodie paradise! Their breakfast is also great! Several of my family members raved about the bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches. The cruffins, muffins, danishes, and breads are all delicious. So are the Strawberry lemonade drinks. They post their weekly menu on IG. It's also visible from the line so you can look and see what you want before you order from the list or the pastries. The line moves quickly as well. They open at 6:30 and the lunch rush occurs right around 11 AM. So if there is something you really want that's popular go before 10:30 AM. Walking into Black Market Bakers is the closest equivalent to walking into a real life Willy Wonka Chocolate factory. There are things that you want to eat everywhere you look, it's equal parts overwhelming and riveting. I'd have taken magazine quality [iphone] photos if my kid didn't have to go to the bathroom for the entirety of the 5-10ish minute wait. We opted for breakfast sandwiches on sourdough and focaccia respectively and were delighted at the size (yuuuuge), the sandwiches were delicious, the bread was the star of the show, but the thiccck bacon slabs were a very, very close second. We got our toddlers the lemon blueberry scone which was such a treat and big enough that they shared. Each kid refused to lie down and accept their yummy pastries and stole many kid-sized bites of our sandwiches. We still have an OG cinnamon bun and a cannoli cruffin for later. We hands down would've eaten that too but were too full (bummer). Closing thoughts: the person who took our order was so kind and patient, she was very sweet while we stuttered through our order (stuttering because with all those options it's a genuine struggle not to ask for the whole menu). I got a hot oat milk vanilla latte that was made perfectly. My single complaint is that we were charged for (and received) an extra breakfast sandwich. Now, complaint because we didn't intend to order or eat the last sandwich and we are so dang full that it's safely riding home with its pastry friends to be a snack later. So complaint? Maybe? I am typically in and out very quick regardless of order size. There is seating indoors and outdoors and ample close parking. They offer a variety of items but I stick to the basics. The black market bun, chocolate chip cookie, and breakfast sandwiches are all a must try. The old bay tofu sandwich is by far my fav...give it a try...it's different but yet One of the best kept secrets in the area...worth every bit of a 20 min drive. There isn't true competition for this establishment within a reasonable commuting distance and even if it was I would still return here.
