Sasquatch pizza. Maple sausage and carmalized onions.
    Matt B.

Had no wait coming into this place on a Sunday night. Place had neat vibes, like it was a cool coffee shop by day and a unique pizza shop by night. We started off with an order of the garlic cheese bread. Bread was good and crunchy. Was a bit on the garlicky side but I tend to like it that way. The sauce was a touch on the sweet side which complemented the garlic well. For the pizza I got the Sasquatch which had maple sausage and carmelized onions with the same sauce as the garlic bread had. It was good, but my one complaint is that it was a lot of sweet. Sweet sauce, sweet sausage and carmelizing the onions made them sweet too. Once I added some red pepper flakes it brought some cohesion to the dish rather than sweet on sweet on sweet. I'd go back again and try a different pizza as they all seemed unique and they have a rotating special pizza or two as well.

Cute interior and strong ac! Yey!

The place has a great vibe: chill and laid back with delicious food. The crust for the elote pizza is airy and crunchy while the corn and jalapeño had a fun combo of savory/sweet/spicy all in one bite. We are excited to try their peach cobbler special as well. People seems to hang out and chat here spending quality time with friends. It's our first time here. Found this gem on a random search while leaving the airport after arrival. I would definitely recommend it. Order at the counter first and then the staff will bring you the yummy food.

We ordered grilled Caesar (surprisingly delicious!), New Moon Margherita pizza, cheese pizza, and Bad Moon pizza. All were exceptionally tasty. Staff were friendly and attentive. Our orders were served quickly. Pizzas were a hit with both adults and children! Nice indoor seatings and it can accommodate big groups like ours.

Love this place! Pizzas and food are top notch! The service is pretty good! Chistina and Ricky are awesome ! I used to frequent another pizza place in town, but Black Moon is just as good if not better. Every pizza that we've had has been simply amazing, thin, great dough, chewy ( in a good way ), delicious and light ! Their meatballs are %#*ing awesome ! Tasty, not dry and great tasting !!! They also have a few selections of craft beers, wine and cocktails. The ambience is low key, family place, but great for a date or whatever you like.

The place was hopping last night with groups gathering with reservations. There was still room for us, so we got a Margarita pizza along with a brew and cider. The interior is pseudoindustrial chic. Nobody is putting on airs here. The parking lot was full - good sign. The waitress was bursting with personality and helpfulness. Who says you can't get good help these days? This will be on the pre-hockey game list on the future.

no parking at building front on Chinden - park at side and in lot in back

Perhaps the most fun-tabulous dining find for us in all of 2023 in the Boise area is this late October opened eatery at the corner of Chinden and 37th in Garden City. They are serving outstanding pizzas, salads, apps and desserts in afternoons six days a week and with plans underway to have bakery goods available in mornings beginning sometime in early part of 2024. Pride of ownership shines in attention to detail for design (same owner as the more swank Broadcast coffee in downtown Boise and while the vibe is different you'll see analogs in set up) for making the best of the revamped space in a "hmmm?" kind of neighborhood next to an Axe throwing joint and across a side street from a very old motor-hotel. Garden City overall is evolving to have this funky mix and Black Moon is one of the best examples of getting things right on all levels from the "all people are welcome here" universally accessible interior to the "we're so glad you're here" service to the "I can hardly wait to come to eat here again" fantastic food. SERVICE: You are welcomed the moment you walk in the door, whether what they consider the front door on the back of the building with its' own parking lot (woohoo) or the busy street Chinden facing door that you see as you drive by. Order at the counter, you're given a number to put on the table you choose to use and they'll deliver the delicious eats to you when they are ready and then check on you at the just right intervals to be sure you are enjoying all. We have been in two times now and both Ricky and Erica get Gold Stars for great service. VIBE: Dining area has limited light given the double glass doors on to the parking lot provide the only window but they have made the best of it with globe lighting hanging above and green plants too. Handsome polished concrete floors. Windows on the Chinden facing side let in light for the main section where the order counter is and that is open to the dining area. Music was just right sort of funky alternative mix at a perfect level to know it was there but not compete with conversation. SEATING: At high stools at counter and a high table on the Chinden side of the building. Standard height tables and chairs easily usable by people of all ages and life stages, including me as I have had multiple sclerosis since college days and boosting my butt onto a high seat is in my rearview, are in dining room area and also along a window on the Chinden side. EATS DEETS: House specialty pizzas are offered in creative combos on excellent crust with quality toppings applied in perfect amount starting at $17. You can also create your own if you choose with base price $11 then add ons priced $1.50 / $2.00. Pizzas are in one size, 12" I think, cut in 8 pieces and easily feed two with leftovers to take away. We loved the Brussels 2 Ways option with shaved braised Brussels sprouts, garlic confit and caramelized onion, My Sicilian heritage husband who grew up in an Italian speaking household in an Italian neighborhood in Brooklyn paid it his highest compliment; "the crust has perfect balance of crunch and chew". This is a scratch kitchen so things like sausage for the pizzas and meatballs served as app and in sandwiches are housemade. Salads use perfectly fresh ingredients and are impeccably dressed. Save room for dessert because you'll have options like panna cotta with seasonal compote (house made lemon curd when we ordered) and bourbon vanilla poached pears on whipped mascarpone with caramel. Full menu is at website. GF crust available. BAKERY PLANS: House baked country bread and baguette available on Saturdays (they open at 11a) but future plans are for this to also be a sweets and pastry bakery that will open earlier to sell those items. (Which they also plan to use in Broadcast coffee downtown.) LIBATIONS: Soft drinks, wine and beer. We enjoyed glasses of Cava on one visit and Sangiovese and Aperol Spritz on another. No coffee service yet but once the sweets bakery is open they'll have Broadcast coffee in the house. PARKING: You can't park on the blacktop on the Chinden side of the building which driving by you'll consider the front. But turn onto 37th side street and you can park at building side there or around the back of the building you'll find private parking lot. Hooray! ACCESSIBILITY: In a truly rare occurance for Garden City, the parking lot is ADA compliant with the van accessible access striping on the correct, passenger, side of the vehicle and accessible route to the door. Inside has ample floor space to get to and from order counter which is at accessible height. Several standard height tables with chairs look like they would work for diners using wheelchairs. Loos are accessible. Kudos to these owners. LOO: Two, a uni and a ladies.

What a find! Yummy pizza, salad, pastries, and cocktails! We were so hungry, we shared an oatmeal fig cookie to start. So good! But turns out service was so fast, we could have waited. Next we shared a grilled Caesar salad and perfectly timed pizza--goat cheese, Italian sausage, basil, grilled onions. Great crust! Oh! And peach tarte! Can't wait to bring more friends to Black Moon!

From the moment you step inside, the place has that quintessential speakeasy feel. The ambiance is dark, moody, and eclectic, with vintage touches throughout. One feature that really caught my eye was a stunning cove-like structure that added so much character to the space. The menu was just as impressive as the décor -creative, varied, and full of unique cocktails that felt thoughtfully designed rather than your standard bar offerings. They even have a few "secret" drinks hidden on the menu, and the staff will happily tell you how to find them, which is a fun touch.Since another reservation was due to arrive in about 40 minutes, we kept it to two cocktails, which was perfectly fine as we were only stopping in for a nightcap. Both drinks were beautifully crafted. I especially loved The Canvas ,it was bright, refreshing, and memorable. My husband wasn't quite as enthusiastic about his cocktail, though he's generally not one to send a drink back or complain. The staff was warm, friendly, and welcoming throughout our visit. Pricing felt fair for the quality of the cocktails and the overall experience.

The staff is always attentive and impressively knowledgeable about the drinks. This visit, I tried something different--a whiskey sour served over shaved ice. I loved how perfectly chilled it was; the ice kept the drink from becoming overly sweet as it melted. I typically go for more booze-forward cocktails, so this was a fun change for me. My partner ordered a Toki highball, which was a perfect fit for his keto diet--highly carbonated soda water, Toki Japanese whiskey, and lemon. Clean, simple, and refreshing. If you're in the mood for a dark, super romantic experience, the space delivers moody ambiance in spades. Be sure to make a reservation!

A small window in the door opened and we had to provide a password to gain entry. (Initially our large group had to reserve 3 time slots and we would be seated separately.) I was in the first group. We were let into a small area with floor to ceiling bookcases. Of course there was a book that once pulled, opened a secret door to the bar within. The ambiance was dim lighting and groups of comfortable seating areas. The waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable about the drinks on the menu. I started with a mocktail that could be made vegan by omitting the egg white. Beautifully presented with a flower design. It was sweet and it was tart. The second drink I got was a cocktail that was smooth with a perfect amount of sweet. My friends got cocktails in their unique glasses. When our next group came through, they were led into a room. After a while, one friend came out to say hello to us. The waiter noticed that we knew each other and told my group to follow him. The room was dimly lit and was furnished with comfortable armchairs and couches. Our third group was able to join us in the room and we were able to mingle seated or standing. The different drinks that were ordered were so cool. A smoky bubble was set on top of a cone shaped glass that resembled an ice cream cone. I had a couple of friends that ordered gin drinks and they were served in a bathtub complete with rubber ducky! This was such a fun and special way to celebrate a friend's birthday! The service was superb!

I've been to several speakeasies around the USA and Gatsby should be the standard of what a…read morespeakeasy should be. No really! Imagine yourself walking through the 8th St promenade in downtown Boise. It's hustling and bustling with people and restaurants that are packed. Then, out of the corner of your eye, you see an alley. It's kinda dark, maybe a little unsettling at first. You see a steel door with a small panel at the top of the door. No door handles but a green lit old stagecoach light, a small wooden sign hanging g just beyond the door with a key on it. Hmmm, strange. In faded sharpie letters it says Knock knock on the metal door, so you knock twice. The panel on the door slides open and they ask for the password. Whoa!!!! Luckily you called ahead to make reservations so they whispered it to you. You give the password and door opens to a tiny little library with a couple of shelves full of books. The hosts welcomes you and you stare at the bookshelf knowing it isn't just a bookshelf but a door. You try pulling on different books guessing which is the right one but after a minute the hostess shows you and you enter a beautiful brick walled 1920s decorated room with seats and dim lights and no windows whatsoever. The artwork is prohibition-era themed. Heck, there's even a stack of wooden barrels that supposedly hold spirits. That is exactly the speakeasy experience you are looking for. We were seated in the boiler room, a private area which had beautiful wooden lockers with glass doors all lit up and full of booze. Books line the wall and there is an old fireplace covered with candles that have melted wax all over the mantle. In the corner is a poker table. Really the perfect vibe for a speakeasy. Glance at the menu and notice their tang of cheaper to very rare and unique spirits, some costing hundreds of dollars for a shot. Whisky, vodka, rum, gin, scotch, bourbon, you name it. But also check out their cocktails. They can even make mocktails if you don't want alcohol. Not only are the drinks unique but so is their presentation. The glades used I've never seen. Some drinks have a printed pattern on them, others come with dry ice that quickly evaporates or a cool smoked filled bubble. The whole experience was just amazing. This is a do not miss opportunity if you like drinks and cool, unique experiences. They even have another room in the back called the Garrison Room which looks like a mineshaft. I just love the thought put into this place. And when you are done, you exit through a nondescript door and exits to a patio area of another restaurant and back out to the promenade. Just a wow experience! So glad I did it.

The service was fast, as we didn't wait the full 45 minutes before being seated. Upon walking in you see an upscale modern atmosphere, and date night ambiance. I felt underdressed as usual in my shorts, but was welcomed nonetheless. We ordered the potato fingerlings, because when in Boise you order potatoes. However I wasn't much of a fan, tasted more like grocery store potato wedges. The other appetizer was the meatballs, which is served with a garlic bread I wish I had an entire loaf of. It was really good and though it seems small it was good enough when cut up, maybe it could've done with 1 more meatball and definitely some more bread. For dinner the kid had a half cheese half crispy pepperoni pizza, which of course he didn't like, not like the chain pizza shops he's used to but I had some and it was delicious. He did like the crust, and still ate a couple sliced. I shared a half Bronco, half Honey Badger pizza with the missus. Everything was good, but the honey badger's grilled onions overwhelmed the taste. My favorite was the Bronco which our California transplant server recommended. It had a nice spice to it that hits the back of your throat just enough to wake you up but not enough to have you reaching for a drink. I already recommended this place to friends that live in the area. That's this critic's review, until next time, I'll be eating.

I know my husband who is a huge pizza lover would absolutely love their pizza here. So for my birthday, I decided that we should hit up The James for dinner. I had made a reservation for a patio table a couple days ahead of schedule. I really wanted to sit outside with the family and enjoy our meal. Of course the day of my birthday, the weather was windy and cooler. I called the restaurant to see if we couple l could possibly dine inside. The gentleman that helped me over the phone wasn't really friendly but he assured me that dining inside shouldn't be an issue. We had a cute table reserved for us inside. It was pretty chill when we came in. A few people at the bar and another table enjoying their meal. The last time my friends and I were in, it was so busy. I actually appreciate how chill it was tonight. Nothing like enjoying my family and our meal in a calm space. We got some food ordered. We started off with some wings, clam chowder and zuppa tuscono soup. A pepperoni pizza for my husband and I. My daughter got the French dip sammy. I planned on having a little bit of my daughter's sandwich. I have to make sure it's tasty! The wings came out first. They were cooked perfectly! Crispy on the outside but the chicken wing was still tender. The buffalo sauce and ranch were in dipping cups on the side. We all had a few and then soups were dropped off. My husband's clam chowder was money. It was so good! Clams and potatoes through out each bite. My daughter's zuppa was very hearty and spicy. I love the kale in the soup. I had a couple bites but the heat was becoming a little too much for me. Our pizza was hot right out the oven. The cheese was perfectly melty. Plenty of pepperoni slices on the pizza. I appreciate the fact that the crust isn't crazy thick. It's thinner so you're not eating a tone of bread. The crust is crispy on the outside and chewy in the middle. The sauce is not overwhelming in herbs. This joint seriously has some of the best pizza in town! Each slice I had tonight was fantastic! My daughter enjoyed her sammy. I didn't get a chance to snag a bite. I was too busy tearing up our pizza. I did snag a few fries and these folks know how to produce a great fry. We didn't get the gorgonzola fries this time but it will be a must have the next time we hit this joint up. It's been a hot minute since I have had them and I still daydream about them. Our sweet server got me birthday dessert. Chocolate cake with raspberry sauce on it. It was devine. I couldn't tell if the cake was flourless. It was really dense like it was but I didn't mind. It was still so good. I enjoyed the raspberry sauce that came on it. Since the cake was so dense, the raspberry sauce added some brightness to it. As full as I was, I had to make sure my birthday dessert was finished. I'm a sucker for anything sweet no matter how full I am. Tonight's dining experience was great. Our server was sweet and delightful. Our food was killer good. My dessert was banger. And the vibe was chill. I honestly couldn't have asked for a better dinner to celebrate my birthday. I look forward to coming back, sitting on the patio and vibing out while enjoying our food.
