Atmosphere: Cool little place. Fun decor. It was very loud with the vaulted ceilings and hardwood floors. The bathrooms were something I would never wish to use again. The wastebasket was that the size of a wastebasket in a residence. It was overflowing onto the floor of the room. The stalls weren't very clean, and there was a paper towel roll sitting on the counter instead of in the dispenser so it was soaking wet from people touching it. Service: Our server was very prompt and got us what we needed when we needed it. She knew the specials and did a great job telling us about them. Food: The best thing I ate, truffle fries, by a landslide, because of their flavor (this said-they are extremely greasy). The mussels we ordered were not fresh, I think we only ate three out of the entire dish, the broth they were in was luke warm and the bread it came with was burnt. The lobster and pancetta mac n cheese did not have a single chunk of lobster in it and barely any kale. I wouldn't order it again. The poutine had such a watery gravy, I'm not even sure I would call it gravy and the cold chunks of cheese on top were off putting. Hit up the Black Pig twice while in town for a work trip. A fun, large casual space with all sorts of tributes to the love of pork! Both times I came in I sat at the bar and the bartenders were friendly and attentive. Unfortunately I didn't have the opportunity to check out every section of the menu here because I had a specific mission, try the mac'n'cheese everyone on Yelp was raving about! I couldn't not try the Truffle Mac, which is made with white truffle and black pepper bacon. It is just as good if not better than everyone says. Fair warning, it's decadent so I did go with a half portion both times I was here. If I'm ever back in town I will definitely visit again. A cool thing here is they have certain special nights, like a night focused on tacos and a night featuring whiskey. If you like bacon definitely come here, they know how to handle pork! read more

3/21/13 Opening night at The Black Pig! My husband and I decided to try out the latest restaurant to open in Sheboygan--however, we did not realize that it was their Opening Night when we did! We were greeted promptly upon entering, and chose to sit towards the back of the restaurant. Upon being seated, we ordered and enjoyed a nice glass of Malbec as we looked over the menu. While sipping our wines, we were served a plate of warm, delicious bread, along with butter. I decided to try their specialty chili--a braised pork with bean chili--absolutely awesome--great flavor and spice. I also decided to order a 1/2 portion of their marinated grilled broccoli salad, with tomatoes, fresh mozarella, and arugula, since I felt the chili would be quite filling. This salad was excellent and would probably order it again. My husband also decided to order the same salad in the 1/2 portion size, as well.enjoyed it He then decided to order a full size serving of their tomato pasta with sausage. He loved the spice of the sausage and it blended so very well with the flavorful pasta dish. We normally don't splurged for dessert, but being opening nite and all--we did want to try out their S'more dessert! This dessert was huge! It does come with an $8 price tag, however--so I believe it is intended to be shared by at least 2 to 3 people. It is absolutely excellent---homemade marshmallow cream, cinnamon toasted filo, and a rich chocolate mousse-like ganache, with dark chocolate syrup---all well worth the splurge in calories and price. We would have this again, and again!! This restaurant was formerly known as Margaux, and has now been re-opened with totally new awesome menu and a re-configuring of the restaurant. I was really excited to come to The Black Pig. I'd heard rave reviews for it, and the menu sounds absolutely wonderful. Unfortunately, our visit was just okay. It started off with the slowest service ever. There were maybe two other tables there when we were, but only one waitress who kept wandering off and disappearing into the kitchen for 15 minutes at a time. We started off our lunch with a few ciders, which were really good. To share, we got a half order of Cajun Mac ($8.95). It was really creamy and well seasoned. I would order this again, it was delicious. I also tried to start with a cup of the soup of the day, which was bacon cheeseburger ($5.95). I say tried, because said disappearing server completely forgot about it, and brought out the rest of our food. She brought it out after the fact, but then I didn't even really want it, since I had an entree out. The soup wasn't worth ordering- it was ridiculously salty, I don't think I ate even half of it. My main dish, however, was pretty good. I had a Duck Confit & Le Cabrie Brie Cheese flatbread ($12.95). It was pretty delicious and a perfect portion- I ate it all, and was contently full. I wish there had been more duck on it. It was topped with the aforementioned confit and brie, as well as cherries, spinach, an onion and garlic sauce, and a balsamic drizzle. My girlfriend got the special of the day, which silly us, we didn't ask the price for. She got a burger called The Hambone that cost a whopping $25. Never again. It was an obscene amount of food though. I don't even remember everything, but it was a burger topped with bacon, prosciutto, chili, cheese, a fried egg, and I feel like I'm forgetting things. It was behemoth, and it kept her fed for like three days. She liked it well enough, but the big portion didn't make up for the mediocre quality- she wouldn't order it again. She got this with a side of White Truffle Oil & Black Pepper Bacon fries ($5.95). These were really good too, not too oily or limp. I'd order these again too. I was a little annoyed that the server didn't seem to care about her customers, and that we weren't at all compensated for the forgotten and uneaten oversalted soup, especially since we had waited way too long for our dining experience to finally be over with. I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt that the server was just having a bad day. I would give The Black Pig another shot, to see if the attitude of the restaurant improved with a different server, but based on my experience right now, I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again. read more

So, my husband got to pick where we went for lunch on Saturday, and he picked the Black Pig. It was empty, but that was awesome, bc I got a tour of how they push the wine, which is on tap, up from the basement! We had so much fun Saturday that we went back Sunday for brunch (and were delighted there was a separate, special menu). Sunday was *packed* by the way, full of families out for Easter brunch post church. Our waitresses were efficient and friendly both days, so that was great. The Chardonnay on tap is, IMO, really yummy and was perfect for our Sunday brunch. Their Merlot (which wasn't on tap and which I had on Saturday) was not so good. Saturday we had the half salad (which was just OK, but with a side of jalapeno ranch dressing, much better;) and the fried pork wontons, which the husband LOVED. (They were good, if not at all healthy;) Sunday we opted for much heartier fare - as Theron got the duck confit omelet over cubed potatoes which he said was just OK (I didn't try it). We shared the plentiful 'French Toast' with raspberry preserves and candied walnuts. Kudos to them for making it interesting by using what seemed to be a real baguette. The big win for us on Sunday, though, was (hanging my head in gluttonous shame) the broccoli and mushroom mac n cheese. Man was that delicious! And filling! I recently stopped here for dinner. People in my party had a burger, pulled Park sandwich, flat iron steak, Cajun mac & cheese, Friday fish fry special) when in WI...right?). The burger was big and "really good" as reported by my son. It looked great, fresh bun & skinny fries. 4.5 stars The pulled pork earned a "so-so" from my other son. He is spoiled by a local BBQ truck. 3 stars My husband had a 1/2 order of the Cajun mac & cheese (size as recommended by the server). It was delicious and filling (despite its small appearance). 4 stars The 7 ounce flat iron steak was delicious, well-seasoned, and served on a bed of sautéed veggies. 5 stars Sorry...but no feedback on the fish special. It was cod. I always recommend eating local fish whenever possible...so salmon may have been a better fish option. Note: If you are trying to eat low carb or keto diet, it is VERY difficult to be successful at the Black Pig. The sides are all carbs (mashed potatoes, polenta, fries), sautéed veggies included carrots. Even the salads are loaded with carbs (dried fruit, candied nuts, etc). I am killing time while I wait to get up... in fear of losing my meal all over their floor. Everyone has a tendency to dramatize their experience at certain establishments. Saying things like, "The worst! Awful! I puked!" Etc... in this case though... meh... See my fear now is getting up. I mistakingly had the bacon (tempting, right?!) and the steak. It's hard to screw up bacon, especially if you're a pig place! But they did it. Can't even begin to describe what happened, but you can't gourmet bacon, so for the love of God please stop trying!!!!! God made bacon perfect, for some religious beliefs anyway. My steak tasted like it was marinated last year in preparation for tonight's food poisoning event. It wasn't cooked right and was worse than the raccoon I ate in Lafayette, Louisiana two years ago... No exaggeration! Huge disappointment! I really wanted to love this place. Menu sounded amazing. I got the pork sandwich (when in Rome) and it was try and tasteless. I asked for extra bbq sauce and they charged me .50! I didn't even finish the sandwich with the sauce, it didn't help. The pork egg rolls were nothing special. Moderately priced wine list with some interesting selections. Cons; For the holiday, they decided to shrink an already small menu by eliminating burgers and sandwiches. Offered an uninteresting prix fixe menu (with items available ala carte as well). Service was painstakingly slow while not busy (nor even "full"). Felt like it was the first time they had served a bottle of wine. Presented bottle and cork to one person, then poured taste for another? Food presentation lacked subtlety Mac & Cheese (with overcooked noodles) was just a glump of a bowl with very little duck flavor to it. Several steaks at the table were wildly off the mark to the temperature ordered. All in all, adequate. Would I go again? Possibly, would I rush to do so, probably not. read more

We let the older kids babysit the younger kids while staying at Blue Harbor for the weekend and popped in here for lunch. Based on Yelp reviews I expected a four star experience and my fellow Yelpers did not disappoint. Cool atmosphere. Good service. Pretty good food. I had the candied bacon and roasted apple sandwich with duck fries. Good stuff, I would get it again. (Would have had one of their burger/pork options but we were having pulled pork for supper). My (gluten free) wife had the quinoa salad. When asked how it was she said "it's a salad." Sounds like it could have been more flavorful. My sister had the wedge salad and was not happy with it. So maybe steer clear of the salads. (But it is sort of a BBQ place so...) My dad had the poutine and liked the flavor but thought the fries (because of their skinny "Pommes frites" style) were too skinny to handle the gravy of the poutine. Brother in law had the Cajun mac 'n cheese and an egg roll. Big thumbs up on both of those. We all had bloody's (the "bloody pig" version) and thought the garnishes were good but the flavor could be punched up. Spice level was good. Overall I would give 3.5 stars if possible but am edging it up to 4 starts for nice atmosphere and good service. We all agreed we would go back. celebrated my mom's birthday here. they have a full wine, liquor and beer menu. got the big pig burger. it was a bit of a wait time after ordering. my food did not taste fresh and it was lukewarm like they had it sitting for a while. My mom ordered the seasonal menu chicken entree and it had a rubbery/ reheated type of texture. the vegetables were over cooked/mushy. they had good mocktail. The flourless chocolate cake was good. the service was sub par honestly. We came upon this little gem during our family vacation to the area. The restaurant options in downtown Sheboygan seem to be a bit limited, so we were surprised to find something so wonderful. The place was pretty empty as most of the downtown seemed to be when we arrived. It was a really cool atmosphere with quotes related to pigs on the walls and even a huge black pig on the end of the bar. The service was excellent. Our server was very knowledgeable and suggested a similar beer to one that was ordered since they had run out of the one ordered. The food was phenomenal. We started with the White Truffle Oil & Black Pepper Bacon fries, which were very crispy and flavorful. In our group everyone ordered different dishes and sampled each others. I will tell you that there wasn't a single item that wasn't great! We ordered the Chili with Cheese, Stuffed Mushrooms, Duck Confit & Les Freres Cheese Flatbread and the Black Pig Steak Sandwich. For dessert we devoured the Chocolate Smore. I would recommend if you order the Smore dessert that you share it with others as it is very rich with the chocolate ganache on the bottom. Stopped by on our way through Sheboygan one rainy day and have ZERO regrets about choosing the Black Pig! When you go in, it feels fancy, but one glance at the quotes on the wall and fun decor, and you feel right at home. When we went, the place was mostly empty, but we were there at that awkward time after lunch but before dinner. The staff was very nice and were very helpful with explaining any questions I had on the menu. The food was perfect for a cold rainy day - comfort food at its finest. Yes, yes and yes. Went here with a large (and culinary adventurous) diverse group for brunch. The staff were friendly and efficient. The menu was diverse enough to meet everyone's needs. The food was absolutely delicious and everyone in our group was in agreement with that statement. I would not hesitate to return to this restaurant. I've eaten at the Black Pig while in town for the past few years and I have to say that, even considering the unique situation, the meal I had last night was one of the best I've had here. I was concerned about eating out with the pandemic so when I called to make a reservation I asked for a quiet table. They gave us a great table! The restaurant was incredibly quiet which was sad but worked out well for us. The food was incredible (always order the bacon and truffle Mac!!!), the wait staff was helpful and attentive, and the space was safe. This place is casual but a little more upscale, the ambiance is nice with a great looking bar. The wait staff was friendly but a little slow. It seems that our waitress worked tables all the way in the front as well as the back. Seemed odd to me. We ordered food pretty much as soon as the waitress first walked over to our table. But it took forever to get to us. All we ordered was the poutine, one egg roll and flatbread. Wasn't sure what the hold up was. The food was tasty but a little on the salty side. Black Pig is in a cool space and offers a lot of interesting options on their menu. They do not really cater to you if you have kids and the servers were not very friendly because I brought my two kids in for an early dinner. (I am a single mom that travels with my kids solo!). My son was eager to try mussels and a few other dishes (which we did order) and my little one is less adventurous so he just ate bread. Nonetheless, we still had a very pricey dinner for the three of us. The food was good but the bacon was really hard to eat and chewy - we were really excited to try this thinking it was going to be on the crispier juicier side. The chipotle one was way over seasoned but the bits we had that were less seasoned were good. The mussels were not good and they were over cooked and rubbery. I specifically took a business meeting just to eat here. I had been to the old place and was curious to see how the new one was. I had one of the mac and cheese dishes (whole portion) for lunch. At $10 I hoped to take some home and that it would be good and cheesy. I was disappointed. This was one of the few times I ate everything on my plate, because I was so hungry. The dish wasn't as cheesy as I had hoped. It was a little watery/runny instead. The 2 or 3 mushrooms I got in the dish were ok. I would not get the dish again, not enough flavor. My companion got a sandwich and salad. He was a good sized man, who could probably eat everything off of his plate- but he didn't. He picked at his salad (normally likes salad) and said he didn't care for the house dressing. He ate his sandwich mechanically- didn't seem to enjoy it at all. When I asked him about it, he shrugged and shook his head. The waiter had no other tables and came over to us several times while we were having a discussion. Gross. I have given this place several chances and it actually keeps getting worse. It would be difficult to discern specifically which is the worst: the actual food, bartenders, service in general or the decor. If you go, please do not expect great service because it just isnt going to happen. Its almost laughable. The food is average at best, and each time I've stopped, something on my plate has been cold. The first time it was the pasta in my mac and cheese. (cold and over cooked), The second, the fries during my leisurely lunch with a co-worker, the third, the gratin that accompanyed my steak, the last, the eggs on my benedict. Why do I keep going back? Its walking distance from my office and Im hoping that even a little bit of the magic of Margaux will pop through flavor wise. I understand that Im looking at a lower pricepoint, but it is still in no way cheap. If you're looking for a good $10-15 lunch, walk down a few blocks and visit Field to Fork and just about any other place for dinner. My first impression walking in, is that this is a Wisconsin version of one of my favorite places to eat in Vermont (If you have spent any time in the Burlington area, you probably know where I'm talking about) and while there are many similarities, there are also a few differences as well.
