This place has excellent food... And the atmosphere is great for: -conversation -a date -hanging out at the bar for a game -or decent size party! (Suggested to call ahead) It's not an extremely loud, or obnoxiously bright, but not too dark to dig in to their incredible food or see what you're doing with your table cooking. Food can be served on a 800* black rock that you can use to cook your own food, or if you'd rather; the kitchen can prepare it for you. The steak and coconut shrimp..excellent! The lamb chops.. awesome! French onion soup VERY tasty and Caesar salad fresh made to order. Our section was busy with a party so our server Linda came over and gave us great service. You can tell she's very seasoned, and knew her menu well. Even pointed out about how to request temperature for lamb chops, which I didn't realize before, and she was spot on! Why is it so expensive compared to nearby restaurants? Why am I paying to cook my own steak? Sure, you have the choice to cook it yourself without supervision of the cook staff or your waiter but it costs so much already, why am I paying the restaurant for basically just handing it to me on a rock for me to cook? I would give ten stars if I could! Truly a perfect experience. I had nearly given up on Black Rock after some poor experiences at the Canton location. But tonight I decided to give the Novi location a chance. I had never been to this location before, although I have frequently dined at several other locations. I'm so glad that I decided to come here today. The server was outstanding and my food was excellent. The server, Francis, was absolutely on top of everything. He made recommendations that turned out to be superb choices. His excellent service and enthusiastic manner really made this an enjoyable experience. He pointed out the new Summer Flavors menu, and I ordered the Pineapple Brûléed Cheesecake. It was truly one of the best desserts I have ever had. The presentation was beautiful and the taste was amazing. I travel to Novi occasionally for work, and I guarantee I will be dining at this Black Rock location every time I am in the area. The atmosphere was cool and welcoming, with several TVs and plenty of seating options -- from booths and high-tops to bar seating. Although their signature feature is cooking your steak on hot stones, I decided to skip that for my first visit. Instead, I went with the sirloin, thanks to the helpful guidance of my server (initials only, but truly memorable). He was easily the highlight of the experience -- friendly, attentive, and full of great suggestions. The sirloin itself was fantastic: perfectly seasoned and served with a rich, flavorful butter that really brought it all together. My husband and I attended a group dinner consisting of 10 people. The restaurant had very deep booths and sat us at one. It was a tad tight so we asked if one person could sit at the head of the table. The restaurant had high ceilings and was quite loud but our booth had high backs so we were able to talk without issue. Our server was excellent - she was very personable and explained the menu as the name of the restaurant is based on the stone on which you cook your steak (if you order steak). To start off, I ordered a margarita with black cherry mixed in. It was excellent 10/10! While the menu is fairly extensive, my husband opted for a steak that came with coconut shrimp and lobster tail. I ordered the chicken. My meal came with a choice of soup or salad so I got the garden salad. It was a basic salad. The chicken dish, however, looked and tasted delicious. The meat was grilled with a layer of cheese on top, placed on a bed of mashed potatoes, and topped with asparagus and onion strings. There was also a nice sauce added that complemented the entire dish. My husband's steak and seafood was good but the steak was a little on the tough side. Since we were celebrating a couple birthdays, they served us two Volcano brownies to share. They are monstrous and quite a sight - and very good as well! On the thin side vs. thick (preferred), savory but not clammy tasting enough, a bit over-peppery and salty, with way more potatoes, carrots and corn than clam--which was, sadly, very sparse. Maybe 12 extremely small pieces less than 1/2 in. long and 1/8 in. wide, and only 4 pieces 3/4 in. long by less than 1/2 in. wide--all in an oddly deep bowl. (I don't care about the shape of the bowl, it was just interesting.) I would have liked to taste the carrots, corn and potatoes better as well. 3/5 The main course: 5 lamb chops! my favorite meat other than bacon. Savory but could be better, and quite a bit of gristle and fat compared to the best I've ever had at Lyon Grille in South Lyon. 3.75/5 4/5 overall for food. It's too bad the actual food brought down the score because the service and ambience were exemplary. It's funny that this place literally promotes gluttony. Last few times I went here with family, I recall them complaining that their iconic 'black rocks (TM)' weren't hot enough to keep cooking their meat, so that kinda sucked, for them I mean. I didn't order nor have I ordered that, I've exclusively ordered the 'Over the moons burger' (I think it's called..) which I personally am ok with, I just haven't ventured out with the meats. We have made this our stop every year for special occasions. Every time we stop in, we always have a large party and we do our best to notify in advance. Our Hostess and server at this most recent visit went far above and beyond. The food was absolutely amazing , but what we enjoyed was the amazing service and attention to detail . One of the things we have to be very careful about are the number of allergies that are group has , and never once have we had an issue . Drove over a half hour to this location on 1/1/26 because we really wanted Black Rock. We thought they were closed at first because the open sign was off. Tried it and were surprised to find them open. We stood at the host stand for a bit and a waitress greeted us with "It's going to be a while," I responded "Hello," and she said "Like a long time, at least a 1/2 hour." We waited for a while and the restaurant was filthy and only 3 tables of people were there. We went next door and had a nice dinner at Kpot instead. I really do like steak and I really do like cooking it myself, but the concept on the rock is very iffy. Super easy to overcook it sometimes make sure your teens know what they're doing/ or kids if they wanna try the Little Rock it's always a fun experience a little bit over price, but that's what you're going to get with the unique concept. I knew the point of the restaurant but didn't know they would have NO apparent ventilation in the dining area for all the cooking smoke to go. We went at 9pm on a Saturday, maybe that's why it was so bad, they had been busy all day. It was worse than the smoking section of a busy casino. Thankfully, we got sat in a back area with a lower ceiling so there was less smoke than in the main area. Decided to tough it out. Service was fine but not amazing. Volcano shrimp was great for our appetizer. The chicken and shrimp Cajun pasta was incredibly spicy but good. The steak and lamb chop combo was fun to cook on the rock and a good price. The brownie sparkler tower was fun for dessert, the brownie did seem a little stale or just maybe missing the chewy wow factor I usually get from a restaurant brownie. Overall I was pleased with the experience and price of the food. I would visit again, but probably only when it's not busy and earlier in the day to avoid the heavy smoke. read more

We had dinner there this evening and when we walked in we immediately realized that the AC was not working. It was very hot outside and even hotter inside. We should have gone somewhere else just based on that. As we were shown to our seats we had to walk very gingerly because the entire floor was slick as ice from all the grease that had accumulated on the floor. Service was good as were my ribs but my wife's chicken Caesar salad was inedible as the chicken was overcooked and over spiced. I patiently waited for the return of my food however, my plate never made it back to me. The evening came to a close, and the next thing I knew, I was being presented with a very large bill along with my to go boxes of cheesecake. I ordered 2 drinks that I indeed consumed and 2 slices of cheesecake to go (untouched), plus my dinner that I literally had 1 bite of before sending it back. When I told the manager that I never got my food back, she looked totally frazzled. Therefore, I told her not to worry about it, just kindly remove it from my bill. She did, yet failed to extend a level of service recovery; thereby also removing the charges for the cheesecake. Seeing as how it was 11:30 pm and I was going to have to leave their restaurant in search of dinner that I should have already had. I had just spent the past few hours grinning/baring their poor service and bad food gracefully. I wasn't rude and I didn't get angry until the manager refused to remove the cheesecake charges from the bill though, I told her that I no longer even wanted them. At that point, I was over the entire experience. Things escalated because it became clear to me at that point that the manager was ego driven to give me a hard time. I mean, why not remove the charge for the cheesecake that I didn't eat along with the food that I was unable to eat??? Anyway, my sister was also over it and decided to pay the bill, which included cheesecake that I did not eat. Before we left, the manager called the police on us, though the bill was already paid. The very next day I called the corporate office and left 2 voice-mail messages, my messages have gone unanswered. I called the Novi restaurant and spoke with Tori (aka TK) on 02/26/2025. He told me he'd speak with corporate to come up with a resolution. I told him that I didn't want a giftcard, as I do not wish to dine with them again. I haven't heard back from TK, so here we are. Good: - food was good (burgers cuz we didn't want to grill our own food - did that once...epic failure) - The temperature in the restaurant was good Needs improvement: - well our server was nice when we saw her, it would be nice if she checked in more during the meal. She said her food down and promptly disappeared. We were missing something, and we actually had the flag down another server to go find her. I don't want her hounding us every two minutes but it's nice if a server checks in a couple minutes after your meal served to see if there's anything else you may need or if there's a problem. What a clusterfuck of a meal. I've eaten here a couple times before and have been impressed. That was not the case on Sat 2/3. The service was horrible. The manager seemed too busy to address my concerns. I made eye contact with him and tried to wave him down, but he ignored me. So here goes: 1) My sister-in-law's sandwich that was supposed to be grilled came out fried. When questioned, the server said "I guess I selected fried" and the receipt said extra crispy. I guess the stereotype that black people only eat fried chicken persists in 2024. 2) All of the appetizer soups and salads came out after our meals. It had to be pointed out to our server that we did not receive our appetizers. Honestly, who wants an appetizers after the main course. 3) I waited a while for my food (the fondue burger). When it finally arrived, the burger was cold and the cheese dip for the burger was solid. I literally turned the dish it was in upside down and it did not budge. The server offered to have the burger remade. I was over it at that point and declined. I know it was Saturday evening and can completely understand the restaurant being busy, but I cannot overlook the quality/service issues. Service was average at best, late with drinks and mixed up running the bills. Food was just average and over priced for the quality. Campfire sweet potato was so cool that the marshmallows on top wasn't melted. Monster cheesecake was thick and looked like it was just frozen cheesecake and tasted like it also. These places always amaze me... They are packed, cost a lot. AND I have to participate in the cooking. What gives? I surmise that since it is almost done and you just cook it over a 700 degree lava stone people can say look how good I cook! It is a sense of accomplishment to see that sizzle piece of meat in front of you and you are the final step in the process. I will say everything was tasty, I even went for pretzels and fondue, and enjoyed that as well. Location is great on 12 Mile Road, service was a bit slow but it was understandable due to the fact that we had a party of about 18 people. It was our Administrators (Property Managers) holiday luncheon. Food was great even though we had a limited menu due to our size. The appetizers were excellent. I highly recommend the spinach dip as well as the hot buttery pretzels with hot cheese. I ordered the chicken with bacon and parmesan cheese over mashed potatoes. Most of my coworkers ordered the sirloin that they had to cook on their rocks with garlic butter. I forgot to take pictures due to all the excitement of our party plus this was the first time in six months that I've seen any of my co-workers due to my accident. Went here for dinner on a cold night. Yes, there was a wait and a line. I gave the lady my telephone number and she said that they will page us when our table is ready. She paged us 40 minutes later that our table was open. Be careful when you are walking in here because the floor maybe a little slippery from all the open cooking going on . The smell of all the meat cooking on that stone is delightful. I was excited to be getting ready to cook on a real hot lava stone, which was steamy hot. My sirloin came on a hot stone just a sizzling and smelling good. I had a side of zip sauce and garlic butter, which I applied to my steak and it kicked it up a billion notches. I sprinkled some black pepper and salt on it also. Drinks here was on point . My salads was fresh and crisp. I like French Onion Soup and it was served pipping hot. This is the second time I've been to Black Rock and this time was even better than the first. We decided to come here for a relatives birthday and I'm so glad we did. We were lucky enough to have John take care of us today and he was very attentive, kind and caring which enhanced the experience. We decided to go for each person to have a 8oz filet mignon which we paired with house salads, clam chowder, mashed potatoes, a baked potato and sweet potato waffle fries. We were served the house salads first and we went with ranch and blue cheese dressing. The salads were fresh with a variety of leafy greens and ice burg topped with cheddar cheese and red onion. The clam chowder was excellently seasoned and the temperature was on point where it was warm but not too hot to handle. Next up the main event a trio of filet mignon all served on individual trays with the side filet on one side, the 700+ degree flat rock in the center and the garlic butter and steak sauce on the other side. Once all the trays were placed on the table John went over the instructions on how to get the filets to the correct temperatures for our individual takes which went medium, medium well and well. The filets were large, fresh and perfectly red and trio of real fine cuts. This was an exceptionally cool experience and my relative absolutely LOVED it! We all had a fun and unique dining experience. Then the finale...WOW the birthday dessert is a huge brownie with several scoops of vanilla ice cream, then topped with a marshmallow filled waffle cone and a mountain of whipped cream chocolate sauce and caramel drizzle. Its is extremely epic and was even delivered with a sparkler. It was a very cool and much appreciated birthday bonus. This was by far the worst experience I have had at a restaurant in years. The server Lizzy was inattentive and should be fired. We added our table or three to the waitlist. Was told 30 minutes and in less than 30 I received a text table was ready. We sat down at 7:50 pm. Our soup was brought out fairly quickly and this is where the pros end. None of the clam chowders contained clam but instead had corn in it like a corn chowder. My daughter's spoon had a burnt food particle a little larger than an acorn sitting on it when it was brought. 1 hour after sitting down, after I complained about the wait, and after two other tables that arrived long after we were seated received their food they brought put the raw lamb chops steak lobster and shrimp and hot rocks. One hour to wait on food I still have to cook and when they brought it out the fries were ice cold as was the Brussels sprouts. We never were asked about refills and our server who we complained about wait time too Lizzy never came back. The entree Caesar chicken salad was horrible and sent back barely eaten. The manager apologized and offered a free dessert and brought back hot fries. We were just ready to go now that it was almost 2 hours later. 20 minutes to wait on dessert and our bill. We had to ask another waitress for both. I had to walk my payment to the bar and give bartender ti pay ti leave. This was not my first time here. Bruh this ain't me - sorry black rock will have to drag you through the mud but I was drug here by some co workers and like man YOU HAVE TO COOK YOUR OWN STEAK! the reason I go to a steak house is because I can't cook steak well myself!! I pay the premium for a deliciously cooked piece of meat prepare by a professional! Black rock slaps you with the same price tag and then tells you to cook it yourself! It turned out okay only thing saving it from a one star - and the company was great! We got this big brownie would recommend that, but if I wanted to put side cl food on a iron skillet I can do that at home! Save that bread $$$$ and skip black rock on your next outing. read more

Located in the fountain walk Plaza, parking is plentiful. Just need to make sure you park in the right lot in front of it or you'd be waking a lot. We came here for lunch, and were seated in the back in the spacious booths. It was pretty quiet in there for our group. Not many other customers or people eating. We ordered the various Filets with sides. The sides were delicious, truffle fries and Mac and cheese. Side of scallops and shrimps. Overall very tasty. The service was slow, but probably because they are under staffed. Looking forward to coming back again. read more
