This may have been some of the worst food that I've seen come out of a restaurant. Decided to stray away from the comfort spots tonight and try something new. Should've stuck with the spots we knew. There was three of us that came in, ordered the Fish, and two chicken pitas. The fish was dry and tough, the fries were average. The cheese on the chicken pitas were Microwaved onto the pita with some cut up Tyson chicken strips. The chips were stale Lays chips. The 4:25 NFL games ended and instead of swapping to the night game, they decided to watch dateline on nbc for a good 45 minutes on most of the TVs and some random game show. Both tables near us ordered different items like the burgers and some sides, and they too were complaining about food quality. If you're looking for the small local bar atmosphere, go to Stables at 5 and middlebelt, or Michnos at 5 and beech, both spots blow this out of the water. If you're looking for craft beer and good wine options with great food, Granite City is a great choice as well. Honestly, would probably get better food at the McDonald's across the street. Jessica who took the order and I even discussed it being grilled. I wanted to make sure it was. So now I feel rage baited. She admitted remembering me asking when I called back to complain. How in the Hell does a cook send out a Reuben on soft rye? The food and service has gone downhill since we first started going in 2017 and this is the final straw. Oh well. I had dinner with my boyfriend last night at this bar. I love coming here to see my favorite server Breezy and getting drinks, but she got fired after a table complained about her regarding service that was out of her control. We had a great time last night but the table next to us was incredibly rude to her and I heard a woman yell at her regarding their oven having issues and the kitchen messing up one thing on their order. I just find it incredibly disrespectful of the management to blame her and FIRE her over a small mistake that was out of her control. I come here all the time for different sporting events. I've never had a bad experience, every meal I've eaten here has been too notch. It does bum me out a little that it always seems like there's something they're out of, but that's life. I love coming here and the servers are great. read more

This is a pretty cool place to go. Burgers are real good. They have a good deal on wings on Wednesdays, but they're a little overcooked. I had a scotch on the rocks and it was a nice pour. We had my fiftieth birthday here last night and everyone had SO much fun! Kyle was awesome at making sure everything was set up so we literally popped our decorations on the table and danced the night away! The DJ was so much fun, they let us have a costume contest and he made the night lots of fun by playing all our favorites! This was our second graduation party here, and can't say enough about the servers and this venue! They were super accommodating and allowed us to come in early to set up decorations, were very attentive to any of our needs / requests and everyone raved about how nice the ambiance and party was. The food was served promptly (buffet style) and allowed us to take any extras with us at the end! They were totally affordable and allowed us to use the whole side of the tavern with the pool tables, shuffleboard and dart boards, which everyone loved! Had a reservation for 14 ladies that have known each other for 55 years. Our annual Christmas lunch. I arrived at 12:30 and was told by the only person working behind the bar that it was her day off, she is sick, and no one told her about any table for 14. Just go and find two tables to sit at and she would be with us asap. It went downhill from there. I wrote all our drink orders on a napkin to try and help her. It took 20 mins for us to get water. The chicken caesar salad was really good, the irish nachos were ok but I would not order them again. It was too hard to eat them since all the waffle fries were on the bottom and the toppings were piled high so it was quite messy to eat. The bartender was really nice. Carry out was not done according to order. Food overpriced. I called to correct this item and experienced the following: When I picked up the correction on that item, no one greeted us for 10 min; They were not busy; about 10 people there. My husband asked a waitress a question. She looked directly at him as he asked her, she never responded, then proceeded to walk away being dismissive of him. I could assume she's slightly racist seeing as my husband is African American. She interacted with everyone else there. I will NEVER return. read more

So. . .we were meeting some friends here for drinks, but we ended up having dinner and I read a bunch of reviews and was quite apprehensive. . .its been like 25 years since I've been here and didn't know what to expect. It didn't look much different inside except they put these horrible red lights everywhere. Our waitress was awesome, I should've got her name because she knew when to come around and what to ask about. Now, let's face it. . .its a bar, and you have to set your expectations appropriately. I had the fish and chips and she had a Rueben. The fish and chips looked very good! It came about 10-15 minutes after we ordered and I have no complaints, but again, it's a bar and you should expect bar food. The fish and chips appeared very good, but turned out it was very greasy, crisp on top but by the time it gets to you all the fryer grease settles and the bottom side is soggy. However I must say that the chips (fries)were very good. She said her Rueben was good but the rye bread was chewy, but she spent so long talking that it might've been fine. All in all, I say if you want bar food, and what I mean is drunk food, Wintergarden is the place for you. read more

I love Wintergarden. They have a great rotating draft list, and are great for a crowd - the back room has lots of long tables with benches. They've got shuffleboard, they've got pool tables, they have a phone booth for taking important phone calls... and the food is EXCELLENT. Had a pretty bad experience the other day that involved the owner making extremely inappropriate advances to me after he was over served, and the staff unfortunately didn't feel comfortable enough to handle it. I was waiting for a friend to arrive. After finishing half my drink and being preyed on for a solid 30 minutes, trying to get a bartender to please help me feel more comfortable, and suggesting to the owner maybe someone should come pick him up to take him home, I was at a loss. I had to quickly pay for my drink and leave as quickly as possible before things got worse and before it started getting dark outside. We called the bar after I left to explain to the bartenders that this wasn't acceptable. But because he was the owner, they said they didn't know how to handle and didn't feel comfortable getting involved. And before anyone makes the comment of "he was probably being nice" or "she was asking for it" or anything that makes this out to be my fault... stop yourselves now. He asked multiple times to take me on a "private tour" of the bar after I told him no. He kept commenting on my looks and how he couldn't believe I was there. He kept moving closer to me to the point I had to constantly move myself and my drink away from him over and over again. Not acceptable, and downright creepy and predatory. I won't be back, and I hope the staff takes this as a learning experience to protect women and all patrons. Everyone should feel comfortable and safe. read more

This is a great neighborhood bar. It's big, with one bar in front and one in back. The front is set up more like a restaurant, and the back is more bar-like with the shuffleboard table, all the games, and the DJ. That's where we hung out. The waitress was very friendly and kept the food and drink coming. The wings were slow, but I think they just take awhile to cook here. The food is decent bar food; I was satisfied and their menu is huge. Lots of yummy looking burgers, sandwiches, pizzas, salads and appetizers. I noticed that they make everything in house, which is mandatory for good bar food. Their stuffed jalapeno poppers looked really interesting, and they have lots of weekly specials and .50 wings for happy hour. My parents ordered the spinach artichoke pizza, which is spinach artichoke dip on a pizza. It's yummy! The crust was perfectly crispy and chewy, and the feta on top really made it savory. I'd definitely order their pizza again. We ordered fried pickles, Irish nachos, and spicy garlic wings. Apparently, they're known for their wings, but I wasn't impressed. They're basic, decent wings, but not as seasoned or crunchy as I'd like. Their spicy garlic sauce is just hot sauce with a bunch of minced-in-a-jar garlic. The blue cheese wasn't homemade, and was oddly sweet. Meh. The fried pickles are spears cut in half and fried crispy, served with some kind of fatty sauce. Very tasty. The Irish nachos were really good too - nachos with waffle fries as the base and bacon as the meat. You can't really mess those two up. They have a GREAT beer selection. I ordered Short's Superfluid, and hadn't seen it in other bars before. They have several good IPAs to choose from. The best part about this bar is the shuffleboard table! We played all night, it was great. They also had karaoke (Saturday night), pool, and various video games. The snow didn't keep people from coming out to this bar; a really fun hangout. read more

Update: This was our "go to" place for so long, but they have gone downhill fast. The last 3 times we went they have barely had any waitstaff (the turnover there is head spinning!). Also, errors in food and drink orders from the servers they have. We continue to give it another shot because their beer selection is good, yet may just have to go to One Under for beers. Management: why can't you keep servers? First the bad: front booths are a little tight. Read: skinny folk only or sit with those u really like. But that being said, huge tables and benches in the back game area. Wish they had more of those. Beer list is good and always changing. Food is really good. I remember working with the wife of the owner when they were still renovating this place years ago. Although I lost touch with her before they finished, I think they accomplished what she said they were trying to do. When we were most recently here, we were celebrating a friend's daughter's 21st birthday. The daughter was going out with more of her own friends later on, but the Wintergarden was the perfect place for us to meet up, give her our best wishes and presents, and hang out for dinner while she enjoyed her first drink (because she never had alcohol before she turned 21, right?). We haven't taken the time to enjoy the game area so far, but it definitely looks like a mellow place to chill out for a few hours next time we're out kid-free. read more

Sub-par food (read: typical bar food), slightly above-average craft beer list, and a selection of bar games (darts, pool, and shuffleboard) all for a reasonable price. Came here with a group of 5 on the weekend and we were quickly seated. At the start of the night our server was very attentive, but once we got our food, she was nowhere to be found. I wanted another beer and a round of shots, so I looked to the bar. No luck there either. Service was friendly, but they were obviously short staffed.
