The table next to us ordered the chowder and we watched her send it back. Ordered the ribeye sandwich which was fine. The waitresses brought the food out on a dirty busboy cart. I usually only have good things to say about this place. Apparently all Black Rock are not created equal. I stopped here because I usually have a good experience. It had a chill laid back environment. The service was good no complaints there. I wanted a pina colada but they don't serve them. However, The issue was the food. It took a long time to come and was over cooked. It was the worse salmon I ever had in my life. Brandon the manager gave me my appetizer for free. However the issue was the entree. I would have sent it back but it was dinner, my first and only meal of the day and I had a 2.5 hr drive ahead of me to get home. read more

What a cool concept... This was our first time visiting the Black Rock bar and grill . The staff was super friendly and helpful, which you need because the experience could require cooking on a hot rock. l liked the area we sat in because it had big garage doors that were open because it was a great night out. The decor is cool but not a focal point of the restaurant. The food selection was mostly higher end food, but they do do hamburgers. I had the ribeye, French onion soup, and sweet potatoes, which were all really good. I got to cook the steak on the hot rock, which was very interesting. Wifie had the salmon, blue cheese salad, and green bean, which she loved. We had the Brussels sprouts as an appetizer, which was awesome. We had their saltwater carmal skillet cookie for dessert. I liked the experience it was unique and different. Black rock feels high-end, but it does have affordable options, which makes it suitable for many different occasions. It is worth a visit and I recommend doing the stone cooking. read more

They screwed up right from the beginning. Kitchen and servers had very little communication and putting their customer service importance ahead was a joke. No wonder they are having problems. First off let me qualify this review by noting that it was very busy. It was 7PM on a Saturday, but we had called in 2 days prior for "priority seating" because we had 9 people, so they were not surprised by our arrival. That being said, the first thing I noticed was how greasy and slippery the entire floor was. In fact, one of the servers slipped and fell while hustling to serve food. Moreover, it took nearly 2 hours to get our food, while other tables that got there long after us were getting served before us. The server did come to us several times apologizing, but that didn't make the wait much better. The server eventually announced that she was going to bring the items out as they were ready so at least some of us could start eating...oookay??? That was fine...at least we will be getting food after nearly 2 hours. My wife kept saying "as long as they get it right...please get it right!" They brought my onion soup first and it was extremely salty. The other entrees started arriving and I can't speak for anyone else's food, but my wife's steak was raw (no we didn't cook our steak on the stone like they wanted us to) and she ordered medium. My father in law ordered medium well and his was rare and my son's baked potato was raw (hard)! We were not off to a good start. I got the Dynamite Chicken and was really looking forward to it. The initial presentation looked like it was going to be delish, but I discovered the shrimp had the tails still on them making it awkward to eat because you had to dig them out of the sauce to pull it off. The chicken looked grilled but was so salty that it was almost unpalatable. The noodles were completely drowned in sauce...like almost a thick soup. The chicken got "lost in the sauce" and while trying to disassemble the shrimp I discovered a poop vein in one of them...DISGUSTING! The manager was understanding and very apologetic, gave us a discount and some coupons, but our experience was so bad we will never return. And don't get me going about the bathroom! I have been in sketchy gas stations with cleaner bathrooms! The floor was soaked (by either urine or water) by the urinals in the men's room which was fun mixed with the grease already on the floors. It looked as if it hasn't been cleaned for hours. Perhaps our experience was bad due to how busy it was, but it wasn't like we surprised them with 9 people...we called 2 days in advance, but our experience was so discouraging that we will never return! read more

I rarely leave reviews, but my experience at Black Rock for my birthday dinner was so bad that I feel obligated to share. We had a party of 7 and from the very start, the food and service were unacceptable. I ordered the chicken parmesan, which came out completely burnt -- the chicken was nearly black, as if it had been cooked in old oil. I sent it back and asked for a burger instead. Rather than bringing me a menu, the waitress began describing the burgers. I specifically agreed to what she described as a "classic cheeseburger with lettuce, onion, and tomato." What I eventually received was nothing close -- a burger drenched in barbecue sauce and topped with onion rings, which I never would have ordered if it had been described correctly. Meanwhile, my mother-in-law received an ice-cold lobster tail, which is both unappetizing and unsafe. By the time all of this was happening, most of our party had already finished eating, so I hardly had a meal at all. To make matters worse, the bill arrived with a mandatory $50 gratuity charge. The menu clearly stated gratuity is added for parties over 8, and we had 7. When we pointed this out, the manager flat-out told us that the menu was "wrong" and claimed gratuity applied to parties over 6. Only after arguing did he agree to remove the charge. The entire night was a disaster -- burnt food, cold seafood, incorrect orders, and a manager who tried to overcharge us while dismissing the restaurant's own menu policy. For a place that positions itself as an "experience," this was beyond unacceptable. This was supposed to be a birthday celebration, but instead it turned into frustration after frustration. Save yourself the money and the headache -- there are far better restaurants that actually care about their food, service, and customers. read more

So here I sit at the bar, on my third beer, never got my soup let alone my dinner. Appetizer was cold. New ownership is a disaster. Used to love the place, will never eat here again. Well five minutes later I got my dinner, no soup though. I should mention, the once great Dynamite Chicken is now a disaster. They took away the sausage and added heat, heat for the sake of heat-no flavor. My wife had an apple salad and had to cut out the seeds from the apple; also not sure what they gave her as dressing but it was not apple vinaigrette, smelled like horseradish. Wouldn't it be great to be able to wipe the slate clean and start over again? That's what Yelp has decided to do, since my previous reviews are gone now. So here we go. My wife and I didn't want to come here because we've had bad service here so many times. She decided to tell one of the workers, who apologized and seemed really interested in making sure we had a better experience. That was a busboy, but it was nice to hear. We had a party of 8, and they wanted to seat us at a massive booth. That meant that anyone on the inside who needed to get up would make everyone get up. We asked to be moved, and it was taking a while, so we picked a table ourselves. Service was mostly good, except it seems to be policy here for the server to wait until we finished eating the appetizers were before the main courses started cooking. I know restaurants do this because they want you to take your time and order extra drinks while waiting for dinner. Very annoying. My appetizer was the smallest cup of lobster bisque I've ever seen. It's about the size of a small tea cup. Tasty, but 3 ounces of soup is just ridiculous. I ordered the One Eyed Lucy, which was served (nearly cold) with a big, beefy burger and a fried egg on top. Tasty burger, but warmer would have been better. The truffle fries were crispy and subtly truffley. Also cold. Ketchup was not provided with the fries, and when my wife asked for it, she was given two tiny ketchup containers, the 1 ounce size ones. After sufficient whining on our part, they finally gave us a full-sized ketchup container. That bus boy came back to see how we were doing, and helped out with refills and such. I was very touching, but you would think the manager would have more of an interest in such things. Maybe this was an episode of Undercover Boss, and he's the youngest CEO in history? This is my fifth visit here, And the last four we have gotten spotty service. This is a reflection on the management, so hopefully somebody reads this and does something about it. You can't just rely on the awesome gimmick of cooking food at the table to do all the work for you. You have to make sure that the servers have sufficient support, and that they don't hold the main course hostage waiting for the appetizers to be eaten. That's a relic from the 1980s, and we don't need it in this century. I only came back here because other people wanted to go. The food is excellent, as always, but it's hard to get past the issues with the service. If Yelp wipes out my review again, and I have to come back here again, I can only hope things will get better. read more
