I love the Black Rock/Human Bean debate down the thread a bit: Why choose? TV Highway is enough of a death trap that I really don't advise making a left turn for either of them. Heading toward Hillsboro or points north and West? This is your place. I'm still not a fan of reviewing chains, but Black Rock is the far lesser of sugar-coffee evils around here. First off, it's one of the few that cares enough about coffee to offer multiple roasts, use an actual espresso roast and offers Americanos, Cortados, Breves, etc. The rest is contractor/trucker/bartender fuel, and there isn't a thing wrong with that. There are many coffee drinkers who find pouring an energy drink into coffee absolutely vile, but nobody's forcing you to order that here and the "secret menu" isn't really built with us in mind. But when you have workers who, unlike certain chains in this state, don't spend the day pounding back that supply and coming up with ways to interrogate customers as if it's a TikTok challenge, it's a welcome change. The Black Rock window folks strike the right balance between caring about their task and not caring about fitting as many words into their interaction with you as humanly possible. I've been in line behind people who find this off-putting, but I actually like getting in and out of there at a reasonable speed and not spending much of my day making idle chatter with faces I'll never remember and people who are trying to earn as many tips on their shift as possible. It's also nice to know that springing for a caramel truffle or Mexican mocha won't hold up the line or warrant an eye roll. Sometimes, all you're asking for is your cup of coffee, a brief and unmemorable interaction and the freedom to resume your day without weirdness or confrontation. Black Rock comes through on this front every time, and doesn't require you to burn gas idling in line for a publicly traded national corporation. read more

I love Blackrock, they are always consistent in their products, their drinks and their service. I can go to any of their locations and get the same experience. We have been going to their locations since location #1 for years and they never disappoint. They continue to evolve as a business and this location as one of the original stores is smaller but is super nice to swing by when I am in the area. read more

I've bought blackrock for years. Yesterday my husband dropped by on his way from work. When he got home he noticed the coffee wasn't half sweet as he usually asks for it. Went back to get it remade at around 9am this morning once I dropped off my kid at daycare because it's quite a way from my home. The lady still charged me even though I brought it back and she even made a face. I wasn't going to travel back at 6:30pm to get it remade so this sorta is upsetting. read more

Worst black rock experience I've had:((( I usually love Black Rock and would choose it over others in the area (Starbucks, Dutch Bros, etc) However I don't know if it was the particular location or my order, but I am soooo disappointed. First, the teen working the window did not know what I was asking for when I asked for a dirty chai. They were out of the coffee cake so I decided to try the banana bread that looked great on the MENU. While she mixed my drink I knew the color did not look right, and I don't know if it was the chai mix or the espresso, but my $7 drink was Terrible! Like I couldn't drink more than 3 sips. Then, the banana bread was Much smaller than pictured, and a dense thick block of mush. Not impressed at ALL. Finally, the teen almost forgot to hand my credit card back to me! She only noticed when I did not drive away immediately! Very unfortunate experience. read more

I freqent this Black Rock when I haven't already been to one of the other two on my way to work ( one is near by husband's office, one by my friend's salon...if I haven't gotten them coffee I get mine HERE). I used to debate, Human Bean, Black Rock, Human Bean, Black Rock. Sorry Human Bean. I like the chocolate covered bean on my cup, but, well... Black Rock won my heart. This one replaced the old Coffee Rush that resided here a couple years back. I dont' mind Coffee Rush, it used to be my go to, but... Black Rock is like crack.It's either super caffeinated, salty, or there's some miracle elixir in it, because it's addictive. The people are nice, the coffee is GOOD, and they usually remember our drinks. Sometimes they have them waiting when I drive up to the window. How awesome is that? The kiddie drinks usually come with a bleb of whipped cream on the straw ( my little princess likes the mint chip chiller). She also likes espresso but we only let her have a sip. She can wait a few years for her own full on caffeine addiction. Anyway, Black Rock has punch cards ( buy ten get one free) and they have a limited selection of treats ( cookies, scones, granola bars). Sipping my coffee now, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, makes a Tuesday ( Monday) almost bearable. read more

I've always had a good experience here. I like that the baristas are not as high energy as other coffee stops. The interaction feels genuine most times and I can clearly hear them. My only complaint has nothing to do with the staff! I would come here regularly if they had a larger size cup for ice drinks. The $4.45 is an okay price, but I'd be willing to pay more for a larger size. This is why I may choose Starbucks or Dutch Bros over them. read more

You know those early mornings where you wake up feeling like a zombie? There have definitely been times where I felt like one of the walking dead and drinking a "Jackhammer" from this place always snaps me out of it. Pro's: Convenient and quick drive-thru location, the staff is friendly and accommodating to requests, and their iced drinks are just as delicious as their hot drinks. Con's: Their chai tastes stale and they don't have many scones or muffins or pastries available. My overall evaluation: worth checking out if you're in a hurry, much shorter drive-thru wait compared to Dutch bro's. :) read more

If I am the only one in line I can get in and out in under 2 minutes. That is extremely fast! Even when there are cars in line it is still quicker then starbucks and dutch brothers. Black Rock is amazing. Since I moved, this location is now the closest / most convenient to me. I will drive by at least a half dozen other coffee options on my way here. I always order the mint chip chiller when the weather is warm enough. I don't know what it is, but the way they make the chiller drinks here is so much better than other locations. It's something about the ratio of ingredients and the amount of blending. I know it sounds crazy, but it's true. You can taste the difference between some locations. This location gets it right. They have a drive through window on both sides of the building which really helps with their efficiency, as well as a window if you want to walk up. I also appreciate that the employees here are cheerful and efficient. At other similar coffee spots, the employees are enthusiastic to the point where it's exhausting and you feel forced into awkward conversation. I have never had that happen at this location. The employees at this Black Rock are polite, personable, and friendly without it feeling contrived. Ask for a punch card because you will be back. When you buy 10 drinks, you get the 11th free. 5 stars. read more

This a nice alternative to Dutch Bros, IMO it's pretty close in the sweet milky latte sense. The Iced Carmel Blondie is usually my go to drink here. The service is fast and friendly. The only issue is that on this side of town, there's only 2 locations. read more

One reason why I don't like going to most coffee stands is the fake perkiness of the baristas asking what you're out doing and making other forms of small talk. The baristas at Black Rock don't do that, unless you engage them first. Instead, they get your order, make your drink, and off you go. That's not to say that they aren't polite. They are all extremely nice and polite and friendly, but they're also very good at reading people and won't intrude on your day. The coffee is always delicious. You will pay a smidge more for it here, but the quality and the experience is very much worth it. The lines are always much shorter than those at Dutch Bros and/Starbucks. I've never seen it more than 3 cars on each side, and even at that, the wait times are mercifully brief. Not sure what to order? The Blackout is a good standby. read more

This kiosk is wonderful! The staff is super friendly, the coffee is smooth with no back-talk, and they're fairly convenient; of course if they were next door to me, that would be even better! The only comment I have is that they really need some decent munchies! Great bagels and terrific cinnamon rolls would be a real plus for this best coffee drive-thru. read more

Have to say that Black Rock Coffee on TVHWY is ALWAYS busy. Do they have great coffees and other drinks, yes. But it has one of the friendliest and professional staff members around. Grab a coffee sometime and see how amazing the staff is . . they not only know people by name but they know what kind of drink they want and will have it ready by the time you get to the window. Best Service in Town. Best iced coffee in OR. Never seen a person walk away without a smile because they truly do care about their customers. We just moved to this area from Beaverton & my usual BR is off of TV Hghway by 170th. I know that I've had coffee served to me from each of the workers there & they always did a GREAT JOB! This BR here? I've gone 4 times & 3 out of those times my Mexican Mocha tasted DISGUSTING!!! It just ruins my morning to drink horrible coffee on my way to work lol. I'm in a hurry in the AM so I don't have time to turn around & have them fix it. Because this is the only one closest to me I know now that I'll taste my coffee before I drive off. Maybe I have too much trust in BR that I figured these gals knew what they were doing. ***its been about a month or so & the coffee has gotten MUCH BETTER!! Mexican Mocha is great and an often hard to find drink. Irish Cream and Milky Way are good when you want something sweet! Frequent buyer card gets you a free drink when you buy ten! They always have a dog treat ready so I often stop by when walking my pooch. Only reason they don't get 5 stars is they carry Rockstar products a company that supports homophobic, globalist and extreme right wing politics owned by the son of Michael Savage. I've always enjoyed Blackrock, however today I stopped in to get an iced green tea. Three dollars, to find they have raise their prices, which is OK, if you change your price boards. The new staff proceeded to tell me a story about how they can't do "nothing" about it and it's corporate pricing. Well you have to change your boards or cover your sign or something! It's a little thing called false advertising ! I will go to Dutch Brose for now on and get an iced tea, twice as large, for three dollars. I love Black Rock! I frequent often, and can say they make one mean, strong, delicious Mexican Mocha :) The quality of their espresso is superb for a drive thru coffee bar, even for a sit down location if they ever decide to make one (which they should, hint, hint ;) I've tried many drinks here, and you can't really go wrong. Unless you order the Caramel Blondie, **JUST DON'T!** it's like drinking a bag of sugar. The staff is always super nice and makes your drink perfectly (especially at the Hillsboro TV Hwy location, and as much as they say that they all follow the same rules/recipes... it's untrue). I'm lookin' at you 185th/ Baseline- step up your game! Unlike other coffee bars, they aren't fake here. They get to know you, know your drink, and seem to genuinely be interested in the short convo you're having. I say short because they are speedy! They offer a "buy 10" get 1 free punch card, which is great! On the first Tuesday of every month you can get any 16oz drink for $2! And they have the best coconut milk at a coffee place I've found so far! Don't even get me started on how amazing their eggnog lattes are here (because they use full eggnog and don't cut them with milk), I'm really trying to stay away from that right now... but I may have had one today...oops ;) I enjoyed every dang bit of it!!! One last note, they have "coffee" on their menu, but just know that they don't actually serve drip coffee. They serve an EXTREMELY hot Americano as their "coffee".
