This was my first time here. I am a VA client and frequent the clinic a block away from this…read morecoffee place. I have been looking for a decent breakfast/brunch place close by but so far no luck there. I am still recovering from renal failure so my mobility is severely limited. I travel mostly at the pleasure of the Veterans Transportation Service or Trimet Lyft. Today's Dr appointment finished up sooner than expected so I had some time to kill before the van returned to take me home. So I fired up my tablet and took a look on Yelp to see if there was anything of interest close by. Enter Insomnia Coffee. Lots of positive reviews. Right around the corner. So... off I go. I an a US Navy brownwater sailor. We drink coffee that tastes like coffee. No additives. None. Not even cream or (gasp) sugar. So when I told the barista [HA! The person who pours coffee into a cup] that i wanted a cup of coffee black I got this sort of deer in the headlights look. What? ...I'm sure she was thinking... no Madagascar cinnamon? no foaming goop? no stale crouton crumbs? no pumpkin pie spice? Ummmm seriously? People want their coffee to taste like pumpkin? Yikes. No Miss... just a cuppa Joe. Just like my first heart throb, Anna Mae Bullock....strong and black. And I have to say, insomnia delivered. Not a bad cup of coffee at all. Although I didn't really want to hang out there since it appeared that I had zero in common with anyone I saw there... hogging the comfortable looking chairs. So I had it in a paper cup, to go. Now I have a "thing" about drinking coffee from a large, ceramic mug.... I loathe tasting paper in my coffee and yes I can tell it's in a paper cup even blindfolded. but I digress. They did have a whole display area of decadent looking pastries and not the tiny, overpriced, bogus looking stuff you see at Starbucks. Not that i would ever go into a Starbucks even to use the rest room. They had several pies that made my mouth water and some gooey breakfast glazed things that would have seriously spiked my glucose. so I reluctantly passed. Perhaps next time :)

I'm mostly a latte girl but I still like the strong taste of coffee but I don't get that with their lattes. Imo, their coffee has a really bad aftertaste and isn't ground very well. Theres been a couple times where I have swallowed straight grounds. That isn't to say they don't have good stuff! I used to get their mango smoothie all the time. That and their pastries are my favorite. Plus it's always a nice place to relax and study. Esp on a nice day.

I have never thought about lunch when going to Longbottom, but that changed yesterday. My Mother-in-Law had a chicken sandwich, as my Father-in-Law but my wife had a make your own sandwich that consisted of Pesto, Mozzarella, and Tomatoes. She loved it. I had a Reuben and it was perfectly served with chips on marbled rye. We love Longbottom and will be back soon. The service was OK, but they asked for a tip before providing any. That's always off putting. Especially when I had to change out the coffee carafe to get my own cup of coffee. That said, the coffee was nothing special. It was cool to see the roasting facility through the glass in the dining area. Now let's talk about the breakfast. My husband had the eggs Benedict and it was OK. I ordered the West Coast Hash and eggs and it wasn't OK. My over medium eggs were microwave rubber. Moved like silly putty. The hash was 99% potatoes and microscopic squares of ham and chopped dried bacon. The meal was very unpleasant. The best part of the hash were the diced jalapeños. This place is a one and done for me.

The review from Amy K. from August is accurate--the phone number listed on their website goes to a pre-recorded line selling medical devices, there is no way of getting around it. Then after calling them a few times, whenever I dial the number, the line goes dead after the first ring as if they've blocked my number. Scam city. I'm reporting them to the BBB.

I've tried other "whole bean" coffees from a variety of roasters over the years through several different sources and none compare to West Coast - their convection air method is just plain hard to beat for great flavor and rich coffee taste. I grind my own in small batches each morning ( if I'm in my studio) and French press - there is no comparison. Competitively priced, always fresh and always a great cup of coffee. There may be cheaper but there sure isn't any better. West Coast Coffee Roasters - highly recommend. 5 stars - amazingly fresh full bodied coffee. 00368

Inside, it appears their main focus is roasting the coffee rather than your typical hipster decor. There is no seating available- more of a grab and go establishment. I ordered a drip medium roast, grabbed some of their own beans to take home, and added a chocolate chip cookie and a sugar cookie to the order. The coffee was clearly the star here--roasted in-house with the kind of attention to quality you can taste in every sip. This is the type of independent shop that reminds you why you veer off the main road. Cozy and small with a rustic Oregon feel, there's no frills and no seating--just a laser focus on excellent coffee and a few well-chosen treats. The staff were warm and friendly, exactly the kind of welcome you hope for in a roadside discovery. As our Oregon trip winds down, Mount Hood Roasters stands out as one of those local gems you can't help but admire for its simplicity and dedication to doing one thing exceptionally well. Next time we're in the area, it's an automatic stop. If you enjoy coffee, whether your palate runs toward casual or connoisseur, you'll appreciate this place.
