Loud echoing music makes it difficult to study or have a casual conversation. It seems that the music is set very loud so that the baristas behind the counter can hear it over the loud espresso machines. Then, when the baristas have a conversation among themselves, everyone in the place can hear their conversation because the baristas yell over the music. Baristas beware - we customers hear all the details of your personal conversations with each other! Combine the blaring music and loud baristas with a rectangular space with no thought for sound absorption and you have an echo chamber. Drive through is fine. Enjoying coffee and a conversation inside is just plain difficult. read more

Free wi-fi and plenty of space. I ended up here because Peet's didn't have any place to sit. I'm glad I came here. I could stretch out, relax, listen to some great tunes and enjoy a Fuel-Irish cream, vanilla breve and 6 shots. Damn! I love that the wi-fi password is posted everywhere. Employees are friendly and fast. Seating is comfortable and I'll be back although I might tempt fate and try the jackhammer next time. They take their coffee seriously here. read more

Very clean and nice on the inside all black and white interior, if you were going to get coffee out of a spaceship this would be the place to fit that. The Coffee was fair nothing to brag about and a bit on the sweet side, I like to take coffee over my sugar, if it is to sweet then I can not drink it. People in the store were very nice, willing to help you find a drink and help in any way they can, some of there drink names can be a bit confusing. This place is in a very good area with a bowling alley right next door. I give it 3 stars just for the coffee house itself, Next time I will try another drink and see if we can change this review. read more

There is a dance-music + scholarly den like atmosphere at this black rock. With dim bathroom lights, leather chairs, dance music just shy of blaring, and two gas fireplaces fighting the cold blowing of air conditioning. However this strange strategy goes much too far by eliminating drip coffee after 3 pm. I can't comprehend why they would be open to 9pm but have no interest in selling actual coffee after 3. Honestly, if you are going to not serve coffee when asked you should have an explanation ready. Clearly this is a choice to save money: perhaps sugary lattes are more profitable? Perhaps beans and water are too expensive? It's hard to say why they've chose to have worse customer service than even Starbucks, but hey that's probably why they need to rely on these honestly pathetic cost cutting measures. read more

Used to love this place, until the staff got rude. I've been going there for years since it first opened, including bringing clients there. But I stop by once because my 8 year old daughter had to go to the bathroom and they refused to let her use the bathroom, unless I bought something. Far too loud to work, have a conversation, or focus on anything. Bring earplugs if you want to get anything done, and then I still wish you good luck. Best get your drink to-go and head someplace quieter. They play pop music constantly, too loudly, with excessive bass. When asked to turn down the music to a conversation-allowing level, they get annoyed, turn it down for a second, and then turn it back up. Okay coffee, over-priced and overly-sweet energy drinks. The Mexican mocha is pretty good, but they don't have a sugar-free version. I won't be coming back here very often. read more

One thing I learned in my years in the service industry, is that you need to have a good People Plan. Black Rock has it nailed, in aces. At every single Black Rock you will find excellent people, making excellent coffees, and a lot of faithful coffee drinkers. I always shut off my ears when people tell me how they are "coffee freaks" and then immediately start spouting off their favorite drinks from Charbucks. I should really wake up a few minutes earlier in the mornings and brew my own pot of coffee but I just cannot bring myself to sacrifice that last 10 minutes of sleep. I stop here pretty much every morning unless there is more than one car in the drive-thru. I've never been inside. Of course there are other places that brew better quality coffee, but Black Rock makes up for that in all other ways. The staff is ALWAYS extremely cheerful which is sometimes a little overwhelming for me at 6 am. I can be a grump in the mornings but always leave here smiling. We stopped by this Black Rock and it was terrible. We asked for coconut milk because of allergies and guess what that was conviently forgotten, we ended up so sick that all plans got cancelled for the day. I asked the barista to stir the coffee after seeing her just add milk to it and she told me she already had. That was a lie because I had just watched her. We end up paying extra for alternative milk and aren't given it. It's really frustrating. This location is the worst we have been to by far. read more

If you like sweet coffee drinks this place is good for that, they make very decadent drinks. If you don't this place is sort of lack luster. The coffee itself is not very good so if you're looking for a cappuccino or a macchiato, I don't recommend this spot. The reason I am giving it such a low rating is because the decor is so unpleasantly uninviting, the place is always empty and I think it's the furniture. The modern, all black and white angular style is just the opposite of cozy. The staff are very nice and cheerful but something sits wrong with me about it, it seems like they must have a boss who hires for looks. Washington is blessed with an abundance of beautiful women but I feel uncomfortable when it is blatantly obvious that their hiring standard seems to do with a person's attractiveness. Typically, I love black rock's atmosphere and beverages. Today, I'm absolutely disgusted with how much milk they leave on the counter, allowing it to reach room temperature. I've been in the cafe for over an hour and they've had a slow morning, yet their milks are still on the counter and haven't made their way back into the fridge. I'm hoping I don't end up with a stomach ache due to bad milk. read more

Hi everyone I wish I could put 0 stars. This Blackrock is awful. While it used to be amazing (daily customer of 4 years) under the management of Vicki, it is now less then awful. Rachel, the new manager, has made Blackrock a less then desirable place to hang out. She shit talks employees, writes-up employees that let the employee know they are talking trash about them. She is a terrible manager!!!!! I personally will never be coming back to this Blackrock or any Blackrock again because of her. I have heard all this information from multiple employees. Please, if you value the treatment of employees, boycott this location!!! read more

The BR on 164th is by far the best coffee shop to go. You can either go in and chill with Your laptop and a fabulous Mocha Chiller. The staff is very friendly. Comparing Black Rock against the other's like Star Buck's, there coffee really has know flavor and they are very inconsistent. Dutch Bros. make Me very ill. I went there a couple of times to see if it was just Me, but nope it was there coffee that made Me stomach sick. I only hope that BR will not increase their cost of the drinks. There already up there in price. It is well worth it though. read more
