    Orange mocha

We wanted something a little sweet on Valentine's Day. My husband and I each tried the orange mocha special of the day. We I think I would've liked a little more orange flavor as it was hard to taste. We also bought some beans for our son-in-law. Yikes coffee beans are spendy! $50-60/kilo. Ouch.

Huge space, very cozy and just gorgeous to be here. The coffee was truly good. Finally found good espresso in the area! Today we have the choice of Ethiopian brand or Indonesian. Ethiopian beans were great in the flat white. $5. Will definitely come back.

This Coava location continues to be a go-to spot for me to caffeinate when running errands in inner SE! It's a huge and interesting space - very industrial. They've added more seating since COVID so there's plenty of options to enjoy your coffee here if you'd prefer, but of course you can also take it to go. Staff varies is how outgoing they are but always professional. Coffee is always great and their pastries are pretty darn good too.

Despite being a coffee lover and often exploring different shops around the city, I was surprised that I'd never visited this particular Cova Coffee location. The setting is unique: a large warehouse converted into a coffee shop, with an industrial vibe. The coffee machines take center stage, while seating is limited compared to the amount of open space. We ordered cappuccinos, a cookie, and a pastry, then sat outside to enjoy the lovely Portland weather. The cappuccinos were extremely small, and the staff mentioned that was the only size available. I ended up ordering a chai as well, which was a bit more acidic than I prefer. The staff was efficient and to the point--not unfriendly, but I wouldn't describe them as warm either. Overall, it was an interesting experience in a unique setting, though a few aspects left me wishing for more.

The self serve water station -- like the industrial water dispenser.

Coava Coffee Cafe is just old fashion good. Not knowingly, Coava got several locations but I stumbled into the flagship location. The first thing I notice is a workbench piled with bags and bags of coffee. They offer their own signature roast blend, which has become increasingly common in many coffee shops today. There's something unique about Coava's blend that I couldn't put my fingers on but the quality is there! The surrounding wide space looks old and new at the same time. It reminded me of my wood shop class back in the 90s. There are several industrial looking tables for customers to site and enjoy their coffee. While placing my order, I spoke with the barista of the cafe. He informed me that the location is a converted structure (formerly a wood shop and then previously a car repair shop for 30 years). I find it fascinating how an entrepreneur can transform an abandoned place into a thriving business (or make its mark)! I ordered a standard ice latte, and it was incredibly smooth, balanced, and i can taste coffee flavor. You can tell the roast is fresh and really knows their beans. The barista is friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to talk shop without being pretentious. This review is simple and enough -- just like Coava and worth coming back.

My second time visiting Coava Coffee Roasters. I always come for their coffee and beans whenever I visit Seattle. Although they are not dog friendly, we were able to find a table outside and enjoyed their coffee. I loved their indoor space as well and would love to come back without dogs for studying and reading. Their coffee is always amazing. I can trust their basitas, all of them appeared passionate and knowledgeable about coffee.

Pretty tasty. The vanilla latte actually tastes like it was supposed to. I've had coffee and several different places in Portland and those all tasted off. This is real coffee. My only complaint is the tiny sizes.

Delicious! My fiancé and I tried their two pour overs of the day, and they were incredible. I think mine was my favorite pour-over of all time. The service was quick, friendly, and efficient, and they were highly skilled at making the pour-overs. I think the ambiance was also about as great as the coffee-- the place is very spacious, industrial-looking, and there is a good amount of seating. Overall, we loved our experience here and had no issues finding street parking.

The perfect latte doesn't ex-- no you're wrong. You have to try the vanilla latte here at coava. It's incredibly smooth, lightly sweet with the perfect amount of froth. I also tried the seasonal special iced honey lavender matcha latte which was also decent. They use oat milk for all their drinks as a default. The coffee shop is in a warehouse like structure and there is plenty of paid street parking in the surrounding areas.

The perfect stop on a rainy winter day. I loved the honey latte. The inside is very spacious with plenty of seating.

My friend mentioned that Coava sources a lot of the coffee shops' beans around Portland, and this was a great opportunity to try the coffee directly from this flagship store. We went here in the late morning Wednesday and it was fairly busy, but there was a good number of large tables (communal) where you can relax or get some work done. I tried their honey latte which is pretty solid - the latte art is spot on, and there's subtle notes of the honey. My friend's cold brew was also decent. For $6 it is a bit average or slightly pricy, but for a good cup of coffee, it is worthwhile.

Nice neighborhood coffee shop and roastery! Came across it by chance while visiting Portland and it's a perfect spot before or after visiting Hopscotch which is only a few blocks away. Coffee is strong and they have a nice area inside where people tend to work from so it's pretty quiet.

Ask the Community - Coava Coffee Roasters

What milk alternatives do you have?

We have both almond and oat milk.

    Is this place pet friendly?

They don't mind if you bring your pet in to get coffee to-go; however, I was told they cannot hang out inside the building.

    Is this cafe wheelchair accessible?

I believe the one on Grant is, yes. Very large open space. I think doors in and out as well as bathroom are all standard widths so note if that isnt wide enough.

    Any gluten free options?

    Coffee is Gluten Free

Do they serve bulletproof (butter) coffee?

    No, we do not.

I have probably spent a couple thousand dollars on their business. Not being able to pour my cup of coffee in a to-go cup when leaving is ridiculous and not standard practice. I found this out the hard way when I had ordered a drip coffee for here and, when leaving, the women kinda snapped at me when I kindly asked for an 8oz to-go cup. I'm on their bi weekly coffee subscription. I'm located in Portland and my bag of beans was routed from Portland to Detroit, then San Francisco then back to my home in Portland on my last order. How odd. I tried reaching out to them to figure out what's going on and there is no way of contacting their business. Their website has no contact information and I called multiple times and no one would pick up the phone. I finally found a personal gmail account linked to their business somewhere on their google business profile but no one ever responded to me. I find it to be very odd that they're running an online business, you can't contact them, and they don't have anyone attending customer service. That's very bad practice. If it weren't for how good the coffee is, PushXPull would be dead last on my preferred coffee shop. I'll update my review once these issues are addressed.

That's how we ended up at Courier Coffee Roasters and it turned out to be the perfect pit stop. The shop itself is small and unassuming, but the moment we walked in it felt inviting and calm. The staff was genuinely wonderful. My partner ordered an Americano and was asked which cup he preferred, two different styles. He asked if they were the same size, and that simple question turned into the most endearing moment. Since the barista didn't know, she checked the bottoms of the cups for size markings (no luck), then filled one with water to see if it would pour evenly into the other, and finally put them on the scale. Verdict: same size. The curiosity and genuine desire to give us a real answer was just lovely. I ordered a hojicha tea, which was very well prepared and hit the spot. My partner said his coffee was smooth and really good. We also grabbed a pear muffin, nicely done, with generous chunks of pear (skin on, which I loved). My partner ordered a chocolate chunk cookie, which disappeared quickly. There was a record player on the counter with a mellow morning album playing, adding to the relaxed feel. The whole space and everyone working there felt warm, friendly, and welcoming. If you live nearby or are visiting like we were, this is a great place to slow down, warm up, and enjoy genuinely good coffee, tea, and hospitality.

There is so much to love about the vibe here,…read morebut the actual drink execution left me frustrated. The Pros: First off, the staff is incredibly sweet and friendly. They make you feel welcome the second you walk in. The modern, cool design of the space is top tier. It is exactly the kind of atmosphere you want when grabbing a coffee in Portland. I also love their progressive approach to dairy; they default to plant based milks and there is no upcharge for them, which is a huge win for accessibility and sustainability. The Cons: Unfortunately, the experience was completely undercut by the quality of the pour. The oat milk curdled almost immediately. I am well aware that Stumptown uses a more naturally acidic brew, which is a science experiment waiting to happen with plant milks, and I know it is technically safe to drink. However, the separation completely ruins the mouthfeel. Instead of a creamy, cohesive sip, I was left with a watery base and grainy floaties. It is disappointing to be told that this is normal when specialty cafes have the tools like barista grade buffers and temperature control to prevent this. While the ethics and the aesthetic are on point, a drink that looks and feels curdled just is not an acceptable standard to serve to customers. Summary: Great people, great space, great pricing, but the technical execution of the plant based drinks needs a serious overhaul.

The black sesame matcha latte was also met with disappointment; the matcha tasted more like a steeped green tea with no earthy or umami notes. The black sesame helped deepen the flavor profile but I would not order it again. In a world where all coffee joints more or less run together, it was refreshing to see something that has more of a distinctly local flavor. The building is light and airy with a very large patio, extremely well laid out both on the exterior and interior, with plenty of places to sit and chat, eat, or work. The food menu, Weill, not expensive, offers a little bit of something for everyone. My friend opted for toast with butter and honey and a small hot chocolate made with almond milk. I, having just come from a lunch meeting, just had a large mocha. Placing the order was fast and accurate, and when the drinks were prepared, we were called up to retrieve them. While we were fetching them, a mere feet away, somebody delivered the toast to the table! We were quite surprised by that and a bit delighted. Definitely not expected. Sadly, no pictures of either food or drink this time - the toast evaporated before I had a chance, and to be honest, I find pictures of plain white paper cups pretty boring. Perhaps next time. The location is right on the edge of Ladd's Edition, just south of Hawthorne at the intersection of 12th and Clay. It's a delightful neighborhood, one that I often aspired to live in before I settled in where I am currently. Highly recommended, I'll definitely be back soon
