overall a killer spot. in house rosters that's priced pretty accurately for its quality. parking was easy (plenty of street parking that is). seating was fun, they've got a repurposed machine in the corner that's turned into a table. with how much space they have, they could do a lot more though. it didn't feel like a spot i would frequent to hang with friends or work. but as a coffee roaster, they've done a good job on the coffee and that's what matters. read more

Came here for an espresso and it was really good. The space is huge, lots of seating and a good place to work with wifi. Parking was easy when I went on the side street. Staff was friendly. They sell a bunch of different beans as well as merch, coffee mugs, and various coffee equipment although I dont think they sell full on machines. Customer service was great. It was pretty busy when I went but they didnt rush me when I asked questions. I ended up ordering a cortado with the espresso that was recommended and a vanilla latte. They've added more seating since COVID so there's plenty of options to enjoy your coffee here if you'd prefer, but of course you can also take it to go. Despite being a coffee lover and often exploring different shops around the city, I was surprised that I'd never visited this particular Cova Coffee location. The setting is unique: a large warehouse converted into a coffee shop, with an industrial vibe. The coffee machines take center stage, while seating is limited compared to the amount of open space. We ordered cappuccinos, a cookie, and a pastry, then sat outside to enjoy the lovely Portland weather. The cappuccinos were extremely small, and the staff mentioned that was the only size available. I ended up ordering a chai as well, which was a bit more acidic than I prefer. The staff was efficient and to the point--not unfriendly, but I wouldn't describe them as warm either. Coava Coffee Cafe is just old fashion good. Not knowingly, Coava got several locations but I stumbled into the flagship location. The first thing I notice is a workbench piled with bags and bags of coffee. They offer their own signature roast blend, which has become increasingly common in many coffee shops today. There's something unique about Coava's blend that I couldn't put my fingers on but the quality is there! The surrounding wide space looks old and new at the same time. It reminded me of my wood shop class back in the 90s. There are several industrial looking tables for customers to site and enjoy their coffee. While placing my order, I spoke with the barista of the cafe. He informed me that the location is a converted structure (formerly a wood shop and then previously a car repair shop for 30 years). I find it fascinating how an entrepreneur can transform an abandoned place into a thriving business (or make its mark)! I ordered a standard ice latte, and it was incredibly smooth, balanced, and i can taste coffee flavor. You can tell the roast is fresh and really knows their beans. The barista is friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to talk shop without being pretentious. This review is simple and enough -- just like Coava and worth coming back. read more

Although they are not dog friendly, we were able to find a table outside and enjoyed their coffee. Delicious! My fiancé and I tried their two pour overs of the day, and they were incredible. I think mine was my favorite pour-over of all time. The service was quick, friendly, and efficient, and they were highly skilled at making the pour-overs. I think the ambiance was also about as great as the coffee-- the place is very spacious, industrial-looking, and there is a good amount of seating. The perfect latte doesn't ex-- no you're wrong. You have to try the vanilla latte here at coava. It's incredibly smooth, lightly sweet with the perfect amount of froth. I also tried the seasonal special iced honey lavender matcha latte which was also decent. They use oat milk for all their drinks as a default. My friend mentioned that Coava sources a lot of the coffee shops' beans around Portland, and this was a great opportunity to try the coffee directly from this flagship store. We went here in the late morning Wednesday and it was fairly busy, but there was a good number of large tables (communal) where you can relax or get some work done. I tried their honey latte which is pretty solid - the latte art is spot on, and there's subtle notes of the honey. My friend's cold brew was also decent. We ordered the Honduran drip and a Columbian pour over. Luckily, we got here before a line had formed as to not feel guilty ordering a pour over, as one should. Both cups were flavorful and served in proper mugs, not paper cups! The space is big, with a myriad of seating options and a woodshop feel. The three I had bookmarked were Coava Coffee, Keepers Coffee & Push X Pull (sadly didn't get to visit) The building is in an industrial looking area and you have that same vibe inside which is pretty cool. We ordered an iced lavender latte & a mocha. Both were very good though I don't know if I preferred it to Keeper Coffee (it's a tough one!). Don't want to give a negative review because it's what I experienced on my first visit and maybe I needed to ask more questions. Got a cappuccino, it was lukewarm with way more milk than a cappuccino should have. All the pastries looked delicious, but nothing was marked so ya had to ask about them. I got the lemon poppyseed blueberry muffin. It was the worst muffin I've ever had, and cold. Maybe it was vegan I don't know. And maybe I had to ask them to warm it up. This place defines the coffee scene in Portland for me. Literally, and irrefutably, the best coffee in the city... if not the entire state. And I am 110% a coffee snob, for context. The shop itself feels just like Portland: a little rough around the edges but emerging in its own sort of sophistication. Spend a while here and you'll get a glimpse of a pulse on our city. I love that there are always two different options for pour over and espresso- this delights the coffee snob in me - and I usually get whatever the barista feels is delivering the best flavor at the moment. You probably won't find a better pour over in Portland... but I dare you to try. I drive out of my way to enjoy a delicious cup of Coava, and you should too. Damn near perfect coffee shop experience. The hot chocolate with high quality cocoa was certainly good, I just wish it was less milky, darker and richer. The ambience in this huge warehouse/roaster is just so cool. A perfect hangout or study/work spot but I do wish it was better ventilated & cooled. I visited on a hot July day and it was uncomfortably warm inside so I sat outside where there was a cool breeze in the shade. Id love to see a wider selection pastries & food options as this is an easy place to spend a good amount of time at. My husband and I ordered the David Mburu pour over to share. We were both blown away by this coffee! It is described as having rich and fruity notes; usually when coffees say this, I can't actually taste the fruity notes but I was able to with this one. The coffee itself was also really smooth, which I appreciated. Overall, this drink was a 10/10 for me and I'd highly recommend it. This coffee shop is huge! I was so excited to try Coava. I'm a Portland native and I love lattes! I ordered an oat milk latte and dirty chai for my boyfriend. Customer service was great! Latte art was great! My latte? Not so great. It was bitter and sour. The roast had a horrible tangy aftertaste. I could barely finish it. It was also almost $8. My boyfriend said his chai was "lacking flavor" yikes. This is my go-to coffee shop for working. Their coffee is really good too! The past few times I have visited have been great. I either get their coffee or their hot chocolate. The interior is huge and very spacious, with lots of places to sit, work, and just chill while drinking coffee. It's definitely a very vibey place with a lot of industrial interior design. The staff are really kind and are happy to help you pick a great cup of coffee if you aren't too familiar with what you want. Everything about this place is really nice! There are a few things I wish they would improve, like labeling their pastries instead of having them all clustered together. Also, the chai brand they use tends to have a bitter taste. I'm going out on a limb here, but this place might have the best cappuccino I ever had in Portland. Coava coffee house is right on top of my list when I really need a lift, with it's open space, top notch barista's and attention to detail in terms of selecting beans, roasting and production. The only con with me is, I didn't find this place earlier and that their beans are not cheap, but worth it. I walked out with a smile on my face. I really can't wait to return with friends. We "sniffed in" here for some sacks and a pastry. I was craving a ZUCCHINI WALNUT bread or muffin, and they had a muffin. It was GF and Vegan which is not normally my jam but I rolled the dice. It was made by Gem bakery. It is not dry, there is good use of oil to trap in moisture. I added EVO butter to give an assist but it still tasted too healthy for me. RATING = B-. We brewed the "S.O. Blend" once home and it passed our sniff and taste test. I was unable to pick up much on the caramel or chocolate but this is our wheelhouse on tasting notes. And I am especially a fan of Colombian and Brazilian coffee. RATING = A. The store is huge and a barely converted warehouse holding onto the apparent equipment from this former machine shop. It's really a cool interior to chill with a tasty beverage. Our next two sacks up are: Decaf Los Idolos (Colombia) and Sumatra Cindaku (Indonesia). read more
