Hanging with my mom drinking some of the best coffee we've tried in awhile!
    Marie H.

First time stopping in here - so close to my doctor's office- So I will definitely be back. I absolutely loved my chai latte- which might be my favorite in the area! The service was quick and the ambience is light and airy. This location looks perfect for studying and working on your laptop.

Black Rock is one of my favs coffee bars as they serve sugar free drinks. I love just about everything here but my go to is Caramel Blondie (sugar free). Awesome atmosphere and always impeccable friendly staff!

Stopped by for a coffee and a chai latte. The coffee was good. The chai latte was OK. It does come premixed in a box. Everyone was nice. There's plenty of seating inside. They do have music playing, so it is a little bit loud in there. I did see people have their headphones on while reading or studying. Parking is available on site, but shared with other businesses.

Here's a sentence I never thought I'd say- you don't have to enjoy coffee to enjoy this coffee shop. A matter of fact, on my visit, a majority of patrons were not drinking coffee, opting for a fuel energy drink or smoothie instead. About 3/4 of the menu is dedicated to the caffeine loving, black coffee is death enthusiasts featuring heavily milked and syrups favorites, blended chillers, those energy drinks mentioned above, and a coffee less section. Surely with all of this shade, I ordered a drip coffee black, or an Americano. No, I love to drink my sugar in the morning like the next gal! I went for the "blackout"- coffee, milk (or a milk alternative), hazelnut and mocha. Sweet, nutty, chocolatey, dessert coffee :) Apart from the coffee, I'll pass on the lemon poppyseed muffin next time, it was oddly powdery. Other than the food: -restrooms were incredibly clean -staff goes out of their way to help customer. Truly, they're the reason I'd return. -there's a drive thru window if you'd prefer to order your fix incognito - being near the college, high school, and woodlands church, expect that company. Maybe I'm salty bc this location was formerly a Shipley Donuts, and y'all know I love a good Bullseye donut, but I get the feeling that this place is going to do just fine!

Quiet overall. Simple and nice and perfect for a cold day afternoon pick me up or even a fun meet n greet place with friends. Hot & cold drinks available with a select mix of baked goods. Seats are solid wood and don't encourage you to stay a while Very industrial inside. Maybe add a corner couch with table in the one area to soften it up or maybe you don't want people to stay too long. Lol I enjoyed it for the simple visit in the area that it was.

Tucked away beneath beautiful lush trees, sits this coffee shop! Artfully crafted interior compliments the coffee and teas that this shop offers! Floor to ceiling wooden lined windows allow for plenty of natural lighting. This shop has plenty of singles seating that allows for great studying spaces if you're going for a quick pick me up and study sesh! It's located in asking distance from Lone Star College and a private school so during lunch hour, you will see lots of students pile in to futile their caffeine cravings! I ordered a matcha latte with oat milk and the famous Olympic style muffin. The matcha latte was made of higher grade matcha, had that earth, green tea taste with notes of cinnamon and vanilla from the oat milk. This drink did not require any sweetener! The Olympic style muffin was mid. The chocolate chips coated the top but not throughout. It was still good tho. I also ordered thier breakfast burrito in sausage! This was the highlight of the morning for me! They had a variety of peppers cooked into the burrito which added a savory depth to it! Seasoned with Slap Ya Momma Seasoning (I could just taste it) really knocked this breakfast burrito out of the park!

Really enjoyed our experience here! We got a both of their caramel coffee special drinks and really enjoyed both. The interior is super trendy and nice, and we liked it so much we came back two days in a row.

    Nitro Cold Brew
    Brett N.

Why 5 stars? Because the nitro was creamy. And perfect. --- --- --- En route to our nephews birthday party, our son fell asleep in the car. Meanwhile, mom and dad were both really hankering for a nap ourselves, so coffee was not only needed, but necessary to go on with life. As I looked for coffee shops nearby, I was underwhelmed and thought we might even have to settle for the dreaded Starbucks visit. But my wife mentioned that she saw a new coffee shop opened recently called, "blackrock or something?" Sure enough, Black Rock was open and was only 7 minutes away. Everybody wins! But more importantly, we both absolutely loved our drinks. I ordered a nitro and thought it was one of the best I've had in the area. It came out so creamy that I had to confirm that it was indeed black, because it looked like it was full of milk. It was not, that vanilla coloring and bubbles were just from the ultra creamy affect of the nitro pour. And it was delicious. My wife ordered some kind of caramel/vanilla latte type drink, as she does, and was also really happy with it. And she's picky, so they really scored by winning her over. This is not the closest coffee shop to us, but we're in The Woodlands a lot, so it's definitely going to be top of mind for us when we're running around on the weekend. Plus, it has a drive-thru! One note of constructive feedback: the drive-thru window could use a small awning. It was raining when we visited, and without anything to block the rain from getting in the car, things got pretty wet, pretty fast.

    Sugar free white mocha
    Zahir P.

Love this coffee shop. It has delicious coffee and for those who want sugar free options - they have so many more sugar free syrups than other coffee shops. Service is always excellent! They have a nice rewards program too! The only thing I'd change - I wish they have a covering for the drive thru. My car got drenched when it was raining. I can't knock out any stars for this because they offer such good value overall.

Green tea with a pump of sugar free raspberry

When I walked in, I waited for 1-2 minutes for them to notice I was at the counter. They charge 20 oz tea for 16 ounces. They charge 50 cents extra for no ice when it's 50 degrees outside. Inside pretty sure it's 68 degrees inside. It's freezing inside the coffee shop & they don't offer hot green tea. When I asked the manager to share with her corporate team she said to post my request on Google reviews and Yelp online. They charge 50 cents for a pump of sugar free raspberry and the tea was weak as it is. So $6.50 for 2/3 of 20 ounce glass no ice. Maybe consider saving money in the electricity bill with temp at 73 degrees and not nickel and diming customers? I'd give them a year until they have mold from condensation in the AC unit. The music was loud so not a great place to work but it's clean, new and cool wooden tables.

    Chai chiller (bland, not recommended)
    Michelle O.

The salted caramel chai (hot) was different and tasted as expected. The salt and caramel worked well with the chai. The chai chiller was disappointing. I was looking forward to a frozen chai and got a drink that tasted like frozen milk. The staff offered to remake it, and I told them the flavors might have settled at the bottom of the carton so please shake it before pouring. The new version had a tiny bit of more cinnamon flavor but still tasted like a bland and icy horchata instead.

Definitely the pick-me-up I needed! And can we talk about how beautiful this coffee was?! It had these gorgeous two-toned layers, with the espresso on top and that beautiful purple color at the bottom. It almost looked too pretty to drink... almost. The staff was super nice, friendly and welcoming. I also loved how much thought they put into the space. They have a cute doggy rest area, a little garden with plants, and an adorable kids' play area with an Indian teepee, a little ship and a playhouse. It's more than just a coffee shop. It's such a cute place to relax, bring the kids, or hang out with your furry friend. And if you order the four-shot espresso like I did, bring your seatbelt because you're about to take off. For example, with the Turkish delights and ice cream selections, only a few items are labeled. For most of them, you have to guess the flavor or ingredients. When I asked questions, there was a language barrier, and the staff member behind the counter was unable to clearly explain what the items were in English. This can be especially frustrating for customers with food allergies or dietary restrictions. In the U.S., I would expect all flavors and ingredients to be clearly labeled so customers can make informed choices. Even if staff members are not fluent in English, having accurate labels for flavors and ingredients would greatly improve the customer experience. However, it is obvious that the person that started Barbarossa has a great vision, and we have been going since they were just about to open their second shop. The owner provides above average products yet sadly it is almost always ruined by the incompetence of the hired staff. So I will be sharing my experience today, as well as the pattern of the most baffling interactions I have had over the last year. Today, my partner ordered the breakfast bagel (this comes with avocado), I ordered a croissant with only eggs over hard (this doesn't come with avocado according to their menu). Also it is necessary to ask for eggs over hard otherwise the egg whites will be oozing off your croissant. And I mean this with full disrespect because while cooking is a skill that requires development. How. On. Earth. Do you serve someone a raw egg? It is clearly visible, you don't need a food thermometer, it might literally be the simplest thing to cook. You can practice at home for next to nothing! When you ask for eggs for hard here, they will be close to over medium if you're lucky. Today, since they put avocado on my partners bagel I guess they decided to just add it to mine because why not? Well why not is because it's not on the menu, and I did not ask for it and I'm paying for the item I asked for. Not your random remix. Additionally, every time I order, I make sure to specify I want my matcha UNSWEET. Every time they say "ma'am it doesn't come with sweetner" and I hold my tongue because I know well enough if I don't say that, they add SWEETNER. And since my husband ordered this morning and didn't say unsweet, my Matcha ended up sweet. Once? Fine. Twice? Everyone makes mistakes. It's a drink idc. But every single time unless the customer specifies? Are these people being trained? Do they have the capacity to be trained? And sure you might be thinking wow that's harsh. So I shall share a previous experience. I wanted to purchase a lanyard, we all know a lanyard is about 20 inches long right? Well I asked to buy a lanyard in the drive thru, I was told they didn't sell lanyards, not that they were out of stock. No according to this employee they don't sell them, never have. Mind you I had just seen it in the store a few days earlier. I'm not one to argue so I acted as if it were my mistake. A few days later I stopped inside to see if they had any left in store. They had several, I took it to the register and asked to purchase the lanyard. She said "you mean our dog leashes!" ........... I thought she was pulling a little joke. She wasn't. I'm sorry have you seen someone walk a dog? Have you ever seen a dog leash shorter than 2 feet? Have you ever seen a dog? She genuinely begins to argue with me because she can't find the button for dog leashes in the system. (DUH girl! Because the company you work at doesn't sell dog leashes. How do I know that and you don't?) The manager walked over and chose the LANYARD button to which this young lady says snarkily "oh I guess it is a lanyard". The manager looked bewildered at her and I thought surely he will now realize how lacking his staff is. However that wasn't the case. So I beg. Please train them. Fire them. Replace them with robots please. I don't care. I'm even happy to give them gentle instruction on how to do their job if you'll at least teach them not to talk back. Don't assume they know what a lanyard, or a croissant, or a cup is because it just might be to the failure of your company. Bonus: a lot of these kids seem to not know that the source of sugar is what they call "flavoring" :) If I don't want sugar, it feels like common sense that I don't want vanilla with sugar in it? Sincerely written as a person that supports smaller coffee shops in hopes that they succeed over chains.

Given that weve had to give up so much in the coffee drinking experience we try and get what we do consume to taste as fresh as possible so weve turned to getting our decaf beans roasted locally. Weve tried a couple of places in Houston and just recently came across District Coffee. Once we checked their website and made sure it was swiss water processed and not bathed in paint stripper chemicals we decided to give them a try... the head roaster Alex is a humble guy who has a family operated business near the 249/Cypress area. I drove out to the District headquarters to pick up a pound of decaf and Alex gave me a tour around the facility which was modest, but professional. Before i left, Alex asked about the reason for decaf and i explained that we mix it with regular to create a half caff blend and with that he walked over to a bin in the shop and pulled out an additional bag of whole bean half caff blend of their signature roast and said it was "on the house" since i had come all the way out from the Sugar Land area. Wow. Now that was unexpected and also very nice considering gas costs near four bucks these days. We just had a pour over cup of that this morning and it was very, very smooth. If the regular whole bean decaf is anywhere close to the smoothness of this signature half caff roast we will most likely add District coffee to our regular rotation of coffees for our morning routine. Thanks Alex. Good luck to you and your family and we'll spread the word about your brand. Take care.
