Decided to try it out with the hubby, $14 and $13 were the average meal prices. Portions are huge, and it's delicious. Service was very nice, run by I'm guessing a little old man and his wife. Overall a nice little place to go, looked very involved in the community.

After leaving the "mini med center," we wanted to grab some breakfast. This hidden oasis of coffee, baked goods, and gravy perfectly fit the bill. The staff friendly and my latte came hot hot and quick. The chicken 'n waffles were tasty with crispy chicken and fluffy waffles. When biscuits and gravy are on the menu, that's how I always how I judge a new breakfast spot. And they did not disappoint. The potatoes were well seasoned and tender, and the eggs were to order. The star of the show had heart chunks of sausage patty and a tasty gravy that will stick to your ribs. The biscuit was rich and dense without being heavy. They have an expansive menu that we can't wait to explore.

I come for the Benedict's. The hollandaise is light and delicious. Hits the spot every time.

    Not enticing. 12/9/23

Personally I think serving an avocado that has turned brown is unacceptable. That's my opinion and the reason for the low rating. Had they left the avocado off, my biscuit breakfast sandwich would have been good. When I took a bite and tasted the avocado I knew something must be wrong which led to me trying to take my sandwich apart to investigate and my pics show what I found. If you don't have a good avocado just say so. I'd rather not have any than pay more for something that is inedible :( The chocolate chip pancake wasn't anything special either though so I dunno. I don't live here so it won't hurt to say I won't be back.

This is a great little gem we found today for breakfast. My sister had the wet burrito and I had the pancake breakfast. Also no extra charge for chicken or turkey sausage. All of our food was very good. The atmosphere is cute and comfortable. They have a very large array of desserts that look awesome as well. If I am looking for a sweet treat, I will definitely stop back in. Also good for multiple checks as you order at the counter and they bring it to you..

What a hidden gem. Wish I would have found this place sooner. Great food, clean establishment, fair price, and very courteous staff. Plus, the have an exceptional bakery of cakes and cupcakes. Bon appetite.

Part of seating area. Probably 12 tables total

The original owners were much better. Service and food is not as good. Especially the service!

Poor customer service from the owner. Try to support family owned local businesses but will find another bakery.

I do not like most mushrooms and didnt know this before coming but I still liked the coffee, as it seemed a little less heavy than traditional coffee for some reason. They have a decent food selection consisting of pastries and house-made latin/american dishes ranging from homemade chips and guacamole to Chilequiles. Note that all food is either vegetarian or vegan. The theme of the place is artisenal Latin/Mexican. If you dine in, you will receive your cold drink in a tall ceramic mug/cup most likely in an Aztec/Mexican style, while the hot drinks will be served in a mug and the food is served on festive plates. They play light Latin music in the background. They don't really advertise their syrups if you come in for an iced latte like me, but basically any of their artisanal coffees can be made iced or cold and you can choose from any of those ingredients/syrups in those choices to flavor your own custom latte. I also added a slice of banana bread from the pastry case adjacent to the register. The alchemist - a pretty light tasting latte with obvious notes of cinnamon. I liked it. Banana bread - more like a triple slice of bread. Its gluten free and very dense. A little on the dry side, obviously. Overall, I can see why they're highly rated. A must visit if you want to try some of the best coffee woodlands has to offer.

Black Walnut uses the Pay Before Eating concept which I have mixed feelings about. It makes me feel like I'm at a fast food place but the food is anything but the usual stuff most fast food places serve and in all my times eating here the food has been very good. It just seems odd to order at the counter and pay first. I think the idea is that it is faster for staff, a server will bring you your food and refill drinks. And on the plus side, you don't have to try to get the attention of your server when you are done to get a check and pay.; you just get up and leave. I kind of wonder if their servers get the same kind of tips as they would if you paid at the end. OK, about our lunch. It was very good. We shared the Spinach and Artichoke Dip, very creamy with good flavors. They offer a $12 lunch special with 5 or 6 choices, a main and one side. Not bad for $12 but we opted to order something from the main selections. My wife ordered the Pot Roast Grilled Cheese sandwich which was very good, and it came with a small salad and cup of soup so was quite filling. The pot roast was super tender! I ended up getting the Fish Tacos, they use mahi mahi and the fish was moist and tender. We also split a side of their sweet potato fries because they are just so darn good. It was a good lunch and we left feeling quite full. We will come back the next time were are in The Woodlands.
