I hadn't been here in years, but it's every bit as good as I remember! I came specifically for their staples, the breakfast croissant sandwich and the breakfast tacos, and they did not disappoint. Both were fresh, flavorful, and absolutely worth the visit. I also tried the peach mango smoothie, which was perfectly refreshing. The carrot cake was decent, though it seemed like it might be outsourced. That said, the quality of the main food items more than makes up for it. The ambiance of the coffee shop is warm and inviting, and the customer service was excellent from start to finish. Typically when I have a bad experience with a company, I improve my communication in the future and if all else fails I just pick another place. However, it is obvious that the person that started Barbarossa has a great vision, and we have been going since they were just about to open their second shop. The owner provides above average products yet sadly it is almost always ruined by the incompetence of the hired staff. So I will be sharing my experience today, as well as the pattern of the most baffling interactions I have had over the last year. Today, my partner ordered the breakfast bagel (this comes with avocado), I ordered a croissant with only eggs over hard (this doesn't come with avocado according to their menu). Also it is necessary to ask for eggs over hard otherwise the egg whites will be oozing off your croissant. And I mean this with full disrespect because while cooking is a skill that requires development. How. On. Earth. Do you serve someone a raw egg? It is clearly visible, you don't need a food thermometer, it might literally be the simplest thing to cook. You can practice at home for next to nothing! When you ask for eggs for hard here, they will be close to over medium if you're lucky. Today, since they put avocado on my partners bagel I guess they decided to just add it to mine because why not? Well why not is because it's not on the menu, and I did not ask for it and I'm paying for the item I asked for. Not your random remix. Additionally, every time I order, I make sure to specify I want my matcha UNSWEET. Every time they say "ma'am it doesn't come with sweetner" and I hold my tongue because I know well enough if I don't say that, they add SWEETNER. And since my husband ordered this morning and didn't say unsweet, my Matcha ended up sweet. Once? Fine. Twice? Everyone makes mistakes. It's a drink idc. But every single time unless the customer specifies? Are these people being trained? Do they have the capacity to be trained? And sure you might be thinking wow that's harsh. So I shall share a previous experience. I wanted to purchase a lanyard, we all know a lanyard is about 20 inches long right? Well I asked to buy a lanyard in the drive thru, I was told they didn't sell lanyards, not that they were out of stock. No according to this employee they don't sell them, never have. Mind you I had just seen it in the store a few days earlier. I'm not one to argue so I acted as if it were my mistake. A few days later I stopped inside to see if they had any left in store. They had several, I took it to the register and asked to purchase the lanyard. She said "you mean our dog leashes!" ........... I thought she was pulling a little joke. She wasn't. I'm sorry have you seen someone walk a dog? Have you ever seen a dog leash shorter than 2 feet? Have you ever seen a dog? She genuinely begins to argue with me because she can't find the button for dog leashes in the system. (DUH girl! Because the company you work at doesn't sell dog leashes. How do I know that and you don't?) The manager walked over and chose the LANYARD button to which this young lady says snarkily "oh I guess it is a lanyard". The manager looked bewildered at her and I thought surely he will now realize how lacking his staff is. However that wasn't the case. So I beg. Please train them. Fire them. Replace them with robots please. I don't care. I'm even happy to give them gentle instruction on how to do their job if you'll at least teach them not to talk back. Don't assume they know what a lanyard, or a croissant, or a cup is because it just might be to the failure of your company. Bonus: a lot of these kids seem to not know that the source of sugar is what they call "flavoring" :) If I don't want sugar, it feels like common sense that I don't want vanilla with sugar in it? This place has become very slow over the years, months, and days. I understand the importance of making fresh food and serving orders promptly, but taking 20 to 25 minutes for a simple turkey breakfast croissant--without coffee or anything special--is unreasonable. Frying turkey does not take that long. They have never given me a scramble egg on a turkey croissant breakfast sandwich. This will likely be our last visit here; we will try other coffee shops in the area instead. read more

Ever since Love Beans closed, my daughter and I have been searching for the perfect coffee shop for our coffee dates when she comes down to visit. I have a list of places to try, and this weekend we chose Barbarossa Coffee in Tomball off FM 2920. I live just off Kuykendahl so this one of the one on Gosling were about the same distance. I can't say anything about the shop on Gosling, as I haven't been, but I am so happy we chose the on in Tomball. First of all, and maybe most importantly, the baristas, Morgan and Julie, were amazing! I always like to ask for recommendations because each coffee shop does things differently. I started to order the chai, because that is my usual go-to. But they had overheard me talking about how I don't like my drinks to be too sweet. So they asked me some questions about my taste preferences and then suggested something I would normally not have even looked at. And it was PERFECT. *Hot pistachio latte sweetened with a little bit of honey in case anyone is wondering :)* We also got a warmed up blueberry scone - delicious- that was quickly devoured! I love the ambience, here. Its not huge by any means- but much more room than many coffee shops. There is a couch area, bar table seating and dining tables - which is where we spent well over an hour playing card games and laughing and generally just having a really good time. I know I need to visit the other coffee shops on my list. But I have no doubt that I will be back here. read more

Such a cute coffee shop that's down the street from our house and cozy vibes. All of the baked treats are calling out to you from the glass display and look scrumptious as well. The barista was sweet while we scanned the menu to decide what to order and she was really fast at making our drinks. My husband had the blueberry muffin and it was devoured almost immediately. Definitely a cute place to bring your laptop and get some work done. But plan accordingly because there's limited wall outlets from what I can tell. read more

Barbarossa is officially my new go to spot in Spring. The ambiance hits right away with those hunter green chairs and a clean, relaxed vibe that makes you want to stay awhile. I tried the cinnamon roll, the spinach and cheese pastry, and the snickerdoodle latte. Every single thing was on point. The cinnamon roll was soft and warm, the pastry had great flavor, and the latte was smooth with just the right amount of sweetness. Service was solid and the place just feels good to be in. One of the best coffee places up north. I remember there was a different location, which was much closer to me but they closed down. So glad my husband stumble across this location. I had an early morning and needed a pick me upper so I went to the 2920 location. My favorite coffee drink is the iced Valhalla. This has espresso, vanilla and honey. It's have a perfect balance of sweet and the bitterness from the espresso. If you ever in area, this is a must stop. They have many other different signature drinks. We went out of our way to come to Barbarossa Coffee House solely because it was the birthday girl's request. Big mistake. By the time we arrived--a little after 5 PM--the birthday girl was allowed to order food, but the rest of our party was told "the stove is turned off." Excuse me... WHAT?! What kind of coffee house selectively decides who gets fed while the rest of the table just sits there? Who turns off their kitchen in the middle of the afternoon while still serving customers? It was awkward, embarrassing, and completely unprofessional--especially for a birthday celebration. The service was dismissive, the experience was lackluster, and the whole place gave off a "we don't care" vibe. If you're not prepared to serve guests consistently, don't pretend you're open. Absolutely horrible service. We will never be back, and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone--especially if you're celebrating something special. read more

I have been looking forward to trying this coffee spot out and when errands took me to this side of town, I was excited to stop in. In all fairness, I didn't try any of the pastries that look delicious, but I did get the turkey sandwich. For $10 you get two slices of white bread, a slice of deli turkey, a melted Kraft single, a tomato spread (?), and a few pieces of lettuce. There was no secure cover on the lid, my iced coffee was wide open when it arrived. When the driver handed it to me, his thumb was on the mouthpiece. When I called the store, the employee told me they had run out of secure tops. That's a serious food safety issue. If proper packaging isn't available, Barbarossa should temporarily disable delivery through Uber Eats. Sending out uncovered drinks is unacceptable and puts customers at risk. This is the second location I have visited which the service is consistently pleasant and the food options tasty. I wanted to try a different coffee option this time but the Pistachio Latte called my name yet again. If you look at their menu and see a small red coffee cup beside an item that means it is a local favorite. Last time, I left with a packet of Oasis whole bean, Medium Dark Roast with a mix of Blueberry-Almond-Chocolate notes and went straight to get my grind on. The flavor profile was mellow for a dark roast with not acidic aftertaste. They have other roasted coffee options for your liking in addition to Masterclasses such as making coffee with a Chemex pour-over. If you are trying to study or work with your laptop/tablet I scouted three electrical outlets, one to either side of the high seating area facing the entrance and the other between the couch spaces on the right hand side once you enter. read more

Barbarossa has been on my list of coffee shops to try for a while, and I finally made it in over the weekend (Saturday 7/26/25 at 9:45AM). The inside has a nice/relaxing ambiance and aesthetically pleasing. The staff stated the other location is bigger, but still plenty of seating (inside or outside) here. The barista at the register really sold the experience! I totally forgot her name but she was personable with a warm personality and a huge sense of humor. Her customer service was exceptional. Also, I really love how descriptive their signage was and being able to learn about their roasting methods/sourcing. The drinks are SO good! My only disappointment is the breakfast taco. The menu (at least the one at the cash register inside) doesn't specify that it comes with guacamole, and the taco didn't really have any pico de gallo. I initially thought they forgot the pico because I didn't see any but the staff said it's mixed in I guess. As far as drinks, I ordered the Honey & Milk Tea Latte and the Strawberry Cream Matcha Latte. Drinks are 10/10, I'll definitely be back and would recommend Barbarossa! read more

Sometimes for lunch, you don't want fast food so you go to a cafe. I ordered the soup and grilled cheese and originally sighed at the $11 pricing. I had a honey iced latte to go with it. When I went to grab my food I was pleasantly surprised to see that I got a BOWL of soup. The sandwich was also a really great accompaniment. Yeah okay, grilled cheese and tomato soup is always a winner but in this case you could tell the person who put this on the menu made it, ate it, and was like "heck yea" The cafe was quiet, but there's a lot of natural sunlight and plenty of parking outside. Seeing workers, customers and children conduct business over these exposed items was really a turn off. But against better judgement I continue my order. Order my standard beverage of cold brew splash of cream/half and half. Nearly $7 for a 20pz is pretty extreme. Recieve my beverage and it's a cup of half and half with a splash of cold brew. This one I held on to. San Sebastián Blueberry Cheesecake- $6.99- highly recommend it. I've had it a few times and it's always frozen. I asked them to warm it up last time. Delicious coffee and great kindness! My husband and I were driving down the road and saw the "open" sign. We said "YES!" and pulled in. When we walked up and tried to open the door it was locked. They were already closed and a gentleman came to the door and opened the door to speak with us instead of shooing us away through the window like most would. He explained they were closed but forgot to turn off the "open" sign. He offered to make us drinks and asked what we'd like. We said whatever is easy or available. He said "whatever you want" with a big kind smile. He brought us our drinks and said they were on the house.
