    Upcountry Veggie

Nestled in a food truck park, Da Grateful Dough became a Christmas Day lifesaver when everything else was closed! This unique spot offers a creative twist on pizza that's worth seeking out, especially if you're near the Maui airport. Just be sure to order ahead as the fresh preparation takes some time, but the wait is part of getting that quality experience. Plenty of covered seating with nice decor and plants in the tent! 4/5 Da Upcountry Veggie was a delightful vegetable-loaded creation that showcased what makes this place special. The Ube ricotta was such a unique touch that gave it that authentic Hawaii flair, and surprisingly it worked beautifully with all the fresh veggies! The cheese was abundant and fresh, perfect for cheese lovers, though the dough could have been cooked a bit more to handle all that cheesy goodness. It leaned more toward the cheese side than saucy, which some might prefer but I would have loved a bit more balance. Definitely a solid choice if you're looking for good quality pizza near the airport, especially if you plan ahead! This is one of those unique Maui spots that stands out from typical pizza places, offering creative flavors you won't find everywhere. I'd recommend giving them a try if you're in the area and craving something different!

My new favorite pizza on island! We've ordered pizza from Da Grateful Dough two Sundays in a row for lunch while watching football. First week we ordered the Cowgirl and Uncle Charlie's Kama'aina. Cowgirl is a veggie white pizza and the Kama'aina was a BBQ pizza with a little bit of everything. Second week we substituted the Cowgirl for the Benny Blanco which was another variation of another veggie white pizza. Loving these gourmet pizzas. Complex and unique flavors in every bite. Everything is fresh and flavorful. I can't decide which one I like more since they're all delicious and have different flavor profiles. It all comes down to whatever you're craving. Can't wait to try Da Boss and Da Lau Lau. Keep'em coming! I'm a fan.

Had a pretty great pizza experience with them - family got dessert and some extra sides, while we went with the Kama'aina pizza. There's so much toppings happening on the pizza, but I think they all blend pretty well together - would come back to try more food from them for sure - Miguel Morales Photography

Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of the pizza but boy oh boy was it great. The dough it's self tasted fresh, not your Costcos Pizza Hut or other chain taste. Ube flavored cheese tripped me out but the flavor was not over powering. This food truck is set aside from the other food trucks in the lot but maybe for good reasons :). The pizza does take a little longer but definitely worth the wait. Take a seat in their little grotto area and enjoy each slice! Each pie is perfect for a mama bear and their little, or just enjoy alone, no judgement here. Ask for a take out box if you can't finish, this pizza is great for your short flight out to a neighbor island.

Supreme Margarita I just added brisket to it.

The pizza was incredible!! Such high quality ingredients and such fun twists! I got the marg and added brisket to it.

Fig-Get-About-It !!! Truly one of the best pizzas I've ever had!! I first heard about Da grateful Dough when the Owner was passing out business cards, in the beginning, inviting us to check it out. I FINALLY MADE IT and was not disappointed!! Ok... so I'm a pineapple on pizza, kind a girl, so I like sweet and savory... I ordered da Fig- get- about 'it pizza and it was insanely yummy!!! Ube ricotta cheese, balsamic reduction, etc. Im a veggie so I swapped the prosciutto for the savory coconut bacon Because the pizza is made fresh, we had to wait about 20 minutes before we got our pizza but it was worth it!! The lady Chef welcomed us, explained we'd need to wait a little while. My friend and I sat and had lunch in their shady, table area. It was a bit pricey but worth the quality. I can't wait to try more!

Came to Da grateful dough after finding it on Google maps. It's very conveniently located from the airport (0.5 miles) and close to Costco so you can stock up on goods. Pizza was so unique and delicious. We had Da Primal and it had Ube cheese! Benoit has created such a special atmosphere with picnic tables and plants that you don't even realize you're at a food truck.

This is the best pizza in Maui comes out of a food truck by Costco. Not what you would expect, but it's true. Pound for pound, the pizza here is better than Sale Pepe, Marlow, and Maui Pizza Truck, which are all amazing in their own ways. But DGD stands out because of the dough and the high quality ingredients and care put into the final product. Don't sleep on these guys.

We ordered the extreme pepperoni without ube ricotta. It tasted amazing. I loved the black garlic oil on the crust. Will definitely return in the future.

Super awesome dough and great brisket. Very unique combinations. We had the Championship Brisket Pie, with Ube Ricotta. Next time we want to try the venison pizza. Also, they have a cute gardeny setup.

UPDATED BELOW (in response to owner's comment) Actually between 3 and 3.5 stars. I had high hopes for da pizza given da 4.6 star review but after taking a bite, my first thought was What Da Heck? Maybe my expectations were too high, especially given they charge $26 for a 12 inch pie, but I was pretty disappointed. I am from NY so I usually expect a thin crust in my pizzas, which is definitely not the case for this. Think more like a Pizza Hut crust albeit definitely better quality; fluffier and tastier. The macadamia nut pesto is definitely an interesting twist and the sauce and cheese were not bad, but the 4.6 rating had me expecting a lot more. Maybe this is really good for Hawaii, but as you can tell from my Yelp reviews, I eat a lot of pizza so take that into account. UPDATE: Chef Benoit, if anyone needs to check himself, I would think it is you because I do not even know what to make of your comment. You say that you came out of pizza making "royalty" from the East Coast but then call East Coast pizza "crap." And last I checked, Ray's does not even get mentioned in the same breath anymore as places like Lucali, Di Fara, L'Industie, Best Pizza, etc., which critics and chefs much more renowned than me would say are far from being "crappy." So based on that, I cannot take your comment seriously.

This was hands down the best pizza my wife and i have ever eaten. So much care and thought is clearly put behind every ingredient. From the sauce and toppings to the hand made dough, the flavors were out of this world! The set up was super cool, we had a nice shady spot to sit and eat. This will be a regular stop for us on our future trips to Maui.

Our server Katie was excellent throughout the evening, chatty but quick, informative and helpful, making sure we had everything we needed and that we were happy. They were short staffed (most restaurants in Lahaina are now) and didn't have a bartender that night, so no cocktails, but luckily one of the mocktails came bottled so hubby enjoyed his Phony Negroni, while I shared a bottle of the Slovenian Giocato Pinot Grigio with honey tones that complimented the meal nicely, and was an unusual addition to their wine menu. What did we eat you ask? Salumi e Formaggi - We chose the Mortadella and Fontina which came with pickled tomatoes and grapes (oh so moreish). The Mortadella with pistachio wasn't as tasty as we expected but the cheese was nutty and excellent, and the little crackers accompanying them had a pleasant aniseed flavour. A smaller size charcuterie plate for 2 for $25 but everything is imported hence the price. Calabrese Piccante Pizza - their pizzas are cooked in a pizza oven right in front of you and they smell heavenly. Crunchy, crisp base, a really fresh tomato sauce (simple but amazing) with a bite to it, and thin layers of Calabrese salami and just a touch of char on the crust. Very tasty Strozzapreti con Kale e Salsiccia - a special of the day, twisted pasta with a rich sauce of cooked kale and pork sausage. Very savoury and a good portion. (Portions are more Italian than American sized here) Acciughe Pizza - another special, and my fave, fresh anchovy pizza with fresh tomato sauce. Every slice had a fillet of anchovy on it and it was delicious! Such a treat to get fresh anchovy on island Tiramisu - served in a glass and decadent, creamy with a hit Affogato with Gelato - vanilla gelato with a strong coffee poured over, a classic, and good strong coffee Vin Santo e biscotti - a sweet dessert wine with 3 small biscotti to dip into it and savor, sweet and crunchy The restaurant is in 3 areas, a patio for outside dining, a downstairs area, and an upstairs. It is a small restaurant and popular so reservations are recommended. Nice restrooms playing jazz, quirky decor, underlit bar, small but eclectic menu, and obviously as a James Beard pick they are world renowned. The owners work hard in their restaurant and rebuilt it after the tragic Lahaina fires and they truly are making magical Italian food, true to the chef's roots. You are not only supporting a local business but also eating some of the best Italian food in the USA too! Our receipt was itemized which is a nice touch if you want to work out a bill or remember what you ordered for a Yelp review :)

Despite having open space, they made us wait until exactly 7:45 PM to be seated. The irony is that their policy charges guests a $15 fee if they are 15 minutes late, yet the restaurant shows absolutely no respect for the guests' time once they arrive. The atmosphere was chaotic and full of loud kids, but the service was the real letdown. Our waiter spent most of his night chatting and sparking long conversations with other tables while completely ignoring us. I had to flag him down just to remind him about a beer I had ordered 10 minutes prior. When it came to ordering, we trusted his recommendations--which was a massive mistake. I paid $45 for an entree that turned out to be exactly eight pieces of ravioli. The portion size was so small it felt like a child's plate, which was especially frustrating because my wife ordered the gnocchi, which was actually cheaper and way more plentiful than my micro-portion. To wrap up the night, we had to wait another 15 minutes just to get the bill while our waiter caught up with his other tables again but I blame the annoying customer he kept entertaining . When he finally brought the card reader over, he shoved the screen in my face where the minimum preset tip option was 20%. I ended up shelling out a $25 tip for someone I literally had to beg for basic service. To top it all off, the birthday dessert we ordered was a massive letdown and cost a ridiculous $20 for something that was very disappointing . Save your money and go somewhere that actually values its customers, serves proper portions, and makes you feel welcome.

**Review 06.29.2026**…read more My sister took me here after picking me up from OGG. She said it was her latest favorite restaurant, so I figured... it had to be decent, right? I definitely went in with high hopes. The interior is really modern and minimal, which I liked. It just felt a little unexpected being tucked into a shopping center. We had dinner reservations and were seated at a corner table by the windows. The staff were friendly throughout the night. My sister ordered a Coke, while I decided to try the Black Cherry Manhattan. Let's just say... it was strong. We shared a few dishes: * Roasted vegetables: I wasn't a fan of the onion purée. It just tasted odd to me, but I still ate it because I needed to get my veggies in. * Steak Tagliata: We ordered it medium, but unfortunately neither of us finished it. The steak was much chewier than we expected. * Smashed Potatoes: Maybe this one's on me, but I took the menu name literally and was expecting crispy smashed potatoes. These were much closer to mashed potatoes. * Bianca Pizza: This ended up being the star of the meal. Nothing mind-blowing, but it was the only dish we actually finished. Overall, I wasn't blown away. The restaurant is beautiful, the service was friendly, but the food just didn't live up to the expectations I had going in. If you decide to give it a try, I'd say go with an open mind, lower your expectations a bit, and expect the unexpected.
