Enjoy dinner or drinks serenaded by Doors and Stones music playing at a low enough volume to still hold an intimate conversation. The establishment is entirely subterranean, with black-painted rooms that are barely lighted by bare-bulb, yellow-filament steam-punk light fixtures. Our server was a friendly, hipster emo. This could be your next hideout! Use cash to avoid an additional 3.95% credit card usage charge. Saturday night dinner for two - $115, including tip with a generous glass of forgettable cabernet and an interesting jalapeño flavored mocktail. Food (walleye and scallops) was delicious and the sides were locally sourced. Skip the apple struedl dessert that was rather bland with very tough pastry.

What an amazing gem of a restaurant! We stopped by for a casual dinner, started with some drinks at the bar and decided to eat at the bar as well. The recommendations of the bartender were spot on - we split a mushroom soup (hearty but perhaps just a bitbtoo salty). For a main course we had a duck breast and a daily special halibut. Both were mouthwatering, cooked to perfection. The drinks were elaborate, it was a pleasure to see the bartender work on them. And the ambiance was lovely. Highly recommend and will be back!

Stopped in randomly on a Saturday afternoon to have lunch with my daughter. The dark colors and stone walls make the basement restaurant welcoming, moody, and cozy. Our server was very friendly, got us seated right away in a booth. She explained that Black Rooster uses mostly local and seasonal ingredients so their menu is pretty small and always changing, which I love! Gives patrons a good reason to keep coming back. Even with limited menu it was hard to choose. Everything looked so good! I ordered the mushroom melt with side salad and my daughter ordered the kid's cheeseburger with fries. Honestly, when the cheeseburger came out it smelled so good my daughter inhaled it. My wild mushroom melt was the perfect blend of umami and savory. We topped it all off with an apple strudel which was delicious and got two thumbs up from my daughter. Will definitely be headed back to Black Rooster soon!

Hudson has free parking on Sundays! All glasses of wine are $5 on Sundays (including sparkling). Kind of a dungeon vibe to this place. Our server, Leah, was very nice and on top of our order. Ricotta dumplings - good but more like cheese curds than dumplings. Bologna Sandwich - good but tomato was hard and no flavor. Sea Scallop special - scallops were excellent but the corn mix underneath was not very flavorful and the tomatoes were not very good. This could be 5 star with a little work on flavor. Dessert selection could be a little broader too.

Food and hospitality were great! Would definitely recommend. Was by myself for a work trip and the bartender was friendly. Dumplings had a ton of flavors that balanced each other well. Chicken dish was simple yet rich. The bread pudding that came with the roast chicken was like slightly thicker thanksgiving stuffing. Almost makes me wish that roast chicken dish was the traditional thanksgiving meal vs turkey. It was perfect. :)

Cool atmosphere. The restaurant is in a basement, so it has a recluse feel. The menu is small, which hopefully means they can really focus in on some great dishes. I loved my fried chicken salad. The chicken was fried very well, and had a satisfying crunch. I also liked my drink, and it was a recommendation from the server. The service was helpful. I was with a large group, and most loved their dish. The only negative was the fried walleye which was too "fishy".

This was by far my favorite restaurant experience on my work trip to Hammond. There are two entrances - both downstairs in an office building. The dining area is quaint and charming. The service was friendly and quick. The drink menu looked creative and fun. But the food stole the show. The food was SO GOOD. The tartare is probably one of the best I have ever had - it is lemony and capery and melt in your mouth incredible. The duck breast was cooked to perfection with crispy skin and perfectly tender meat. I don't even like peas and the sauce was so good I ate most of them anyways. 10/10 will be back next trip. Bonus: My co-worker is keto and was able to find something delicious without much modification and left happy.

Talented chef from St Paul Grill, Rick has opened Black Rooster Bistro with smashing success. Never has he seemed so happy, and the food reflects. We started with the amazing Ricotta Dumplings (check out the story on their website). Fluffy and light - IMO the perfect start. Also ordered panzanella spring salad (burrata + veggies). Our entree dishes were true delight. Fettuccini made in house. The honey chili sauce with the pork was phenomenal. We loved our dinner. Great service. Great food. Can't ask for much more. Easy parking. Takes reservations. Clean bathrooms. Highly recommend.

Fun cocktails! The Hibiscus Happiknees is on the left and the Waiquiri is on the right.

Service was wonderful and the cocktails blew us away. We loved the cozy, date night ambience- it was perfect for our first night in Hudson.

There's really no redeeming value to be associated with this place other than it being a cool place to have a beer during the hot summer months. And downright freezing during the winter! Me finding myself tethered to John (a local gadabout) who drags me to a seemingly endless line of beverage intakes of an alcohol nature, and I not being use to the effects of cold and ice. The ice in the parking lot can be treacherous, and the inside is like aging beef in cold storage! Ahhh but that only adds to its charm. Tie that in with the warm hearts sharing the bar and it makes for a memorable experience. But not one that I would frequent on a daily basis. I heard stories about there being caves associated with Nova. Who knows, maybe someday John will get me an invite to explore and I'll come across Injun' Joe just like Tom Sawyer. My luck though it'll be a rabid bat I find. A memory ever associated with the bowels of the dive which is Nova. Honestly speaking, I had fun at Nova, cold and all. We would have stayed longer but alas, a dinner engagement loomed which would provide us the opportunity to indulge once more, and more importantly, thaw out! Quick Tip: After you've had your fill at Nova you can walk down to the corner for ice cream at the Dairy Queen. You'll find that novelty warmer than what you had to endure at Hudsons finest dive.
