Today, my husband and I had lunch at Black Salt. It was a bit of a drive through the snow, but well worth it! The Black Salt Lime Soda was delicious even on a cold day. I ordered Butter Panner and had a creamy gravy and large cubes of paneer. He ordered Almond and rice soup and Chicken 65, and he loved it. It was lightly battered and had quite a few fresh curry leaves. The sauce was spicy but not too hot. For dessert, he got the chocolate mousse with dumplings and said it was one of the best desserts he has had. I ordered Shahi Tukda. The presentation was lovely. It was a little sweeter than I expected but was something I always wanted to try. There are quite a few menu items we want to return and try!! read more

Dropped in for a quick lunch this Saturday. I was impressed by the variety of options and the food was very good. I started off with the fresh lime soda which I haven't seen offered anywhere before. I really enjoyed how refreshing it was. I ordered the Panipuri to start which is always fun. I don't drink but I think they had an alcoholic option which sounded like it would be fun for those that do. The chef specializes in northern food and I ordered the Lahori Murg his specialty according to the menu. The waiter talked me down from Spicy to medium, but if you are a spice enthusiast then medium won't be enough. Next time I'll get spicier. I plan on going back to explore more of the food. read more

You have to order the mango chaat from their appetizer menu. That's my favorite dish at this restaurant. Everything else on their menu that we have tried has been good, but I would not say it's outstanding. It's definitely worth trying once. Everyone's taste is different, so maybe someone else will find it different. My family really enjoy spicy food. read more

If the service was terrible I'd recommend this place, but instead it is staffed the the warm, cheerful, almost familial kindness the best Indian cuisine captures. Had dinner at Black Salt last night with another couple, food was delicious, nicely spiced but not too much! Started with a chickpea appetizer in a broth that was very good, with a little "kick" to it. Also ordered the truffle Nan which was also terrific. Our mains included a cod based seafood curry with shrimp and small mussels included, nice flavor. My wife had a vegetarian dish that she loved, and our friends ordered one of their chicken based mains and some lamb chops. All very good! This place just opened, so the reason for only 4 stars relates to being a little slow on service, which I'm sure they will correct. Place was packed last night, so that's likely the cause of slower service, as all employees were working hard! Several times the manager stopped by to ask how everything was, and we repeatedly said delicious! Small place, maybe 5 tables (booths) with a large table in center that was occupied during our experience. Good addition to Chesterfield dining options, and I'm sure Black Salt will do well! read more

Stopped in recently after opening for an early dinner one evening when my wife was out of town. I was impressed with the nice atmosphere, kind of upscale actually. The staff were very pleasant, helpful and obviously trained. The lentil soup was awesome. The chicken biryani and nan were both very good, but we're just too rich being saturated with ghee. Too rich. Since my husband and I have never experienced an Indian restaurant we thought we'd give this one a try. It was fabuous! We heard it can get crowded so I made a 6 p.m. reservation, however we arrived 30 minutes early. The manager who was working the host stand told us it was not a problem and seated us immediately. The restaurant seating area is quite small, so I would recommend a reservation. The staff is attentive and after every table left, the servers were quick to wipe it down and quickly sweep the floor. You don't see that too often! While the server was getting our wine, we reviewed the menu. Since we were unfamiliar with the food, I got up and asked the manager for his opinion. He asked us questions about our heat levels and what proteins we enjoyed and was very helpful. We had an appetizer of Palak Chaat with Mango which was very different. I don't think I've ever had fried spinach, however we truly enjoyed it. The Butter Chicken was a popular item, per the manager, and we ordered it with Garlic Naan. It was a flavor bomb! We added the Chicken Barr Kabob which we also dipped in the Butter Chicken sauce. I recommend ordering the naan as it does not come with it. We felt the pricing was adequate and the food delicious. I hate to have two bad experiences to share in a row but Black Salt is bottom of the list when it comes to good Indian food within a span of less than 5 miles. Curry Club, Taj Palace and Desi Vibes are significantly better and better priced. No joke we went to Curry Club right after and paid half the price for better food with a larger portion. We came in today for lunch and the service can be described as awkward but nice. We asked for spicy butter chicken and got the most bland and not spocy rendition of butter chicken I have ever had. The chicken is clearly cooked separately from the the sauce. If you like a loud, overpriced and not great food this place is perfect. read more

This was my first time. First the servers and the host were awesome at greeting us as we walked in. This gave me a good feeling from the start. We didnt have reservations which I recommend because its a very small place. A nice patron gave up his seat for the 2 of us and sat at the bar. Lucky us otherwise we were going to have to leave. The menu is fantastic o wanted to order so much. The sampler assorted non-veggie appetizer and was amazing Nice portions of salmon, chicken, shrimp, lamb, and a few mixed greens and a mint sauce for the food. Then we had chai hot beverage it was good. My main course was lahori murgh a northern india chicken dish, the chefs specialty was very good, but I needed a little more flavor. My friend ordered a vegetarian dish called Kadhai paneer. Its was super good and the sauce that the Paneer was prepared with was so tantalizing that I ordered the sauce to take home. We were so very happy that we will come again because the menu was so large I have to return. read more

The food was amazing and reasonably priced for a nice restaurant. Our service was excellent and we had plenty for the next day. My favorite was the samosa. I did a mild spice for my main dish and it was enough to notice it was there but not to be gulping water. My husband did the medium and I could tolerate a bite or two of his as well. We have been wanting to try this place. We ordered through a delivery app which isn't ideal but we wanted carry out. Food arrived cold but that was due to delivery not the restaurant. Overall food was delicious. Only complaint is the protein in the dishes is very skimpy. A big delicious container of sauce with only 5 small chunks of chicken for $20. One serving of each dish and still had 3/4 container of just sauce and no protein (butter chicken and butter paneer). Garlic nann could usemore garlic. Nice atmosphere here, and an interesting mix of music. We did a lot of fairly loud rocking out, with a few traditional Indian style songs mixed in. Staff were all polite and extremely attentive. Food was attractively plated with correspondingly good flavor. Vegetable samosa appetizer was hot, large and full, and not greasy. For a drink, you can get a sweetened lime soda with black pepper for a bit of a kick. I really liked the taste with the salt addition, but the sulfurous black salt gave reminiscent of sewage - ah well, the dangers of flavor. Dum goat lucknowi had well melded flavors and very tender meat. I ordered it mild, but it was still a bit spicy for me. The spice seemed mainly in the meat, so perhaps that couldn't be controlled. The wife's spinach paneer was excellent, again with well-melded flavor and dense paneer. For dessert, we had the hot gulab jamun. Beautifully prepared over a strip of vanilla cream, with multiple spices on top to deepen the flavor. read more

Black Salt is an absolute joy. I had the Goat Curry extra spicy with a side of buttered naan. They did an exceptional job allowing layered flavors to come through while simultaneously delivering a prodigious kick! The small atmosphere delivers a good opportunity for a business lunch and the service is attentive and polite, but not overbearing. I can't say enough about this spot because it's a small business that delivers the very best on all fronts.
