Food: - Nachos: Their nachos are good - not topped with the greatest guacamole or cheese; but certainly the best pickled jalapeños. Our server explained exactly how they are pickled for us; a secret I won't reveal here - We tried the different tacos amongst us: Cauliflower and sweet Potato- 3/5, was a bit different, but the flavors a bit too subtle for me. Spiced Black bean - 4/5, Very delicious and I highly recommend it. Lamb Gyro - 4/5, No overpowering taste, had a slight sweetness to it. Less Lamb filling. Chicken Verde - 3.5/5, Good, lots of chicken but the spices were too subdued. Roasted Cauliflower Gyro - 3/5, would recommend the sweet potato and cauliflower over this one. My friends both got specialty margaritas and loved them, I got a mojito... it was not stellar by any means but as it wasn't on the list of house cocktails, I can't necessarily harp on them for it (although any place serving tacos should be able to make a good mojito!). Tacos! These are "street" tacos made with their homemade tortillas which have excellent flavor. I got the chicken verde, the sweet potato and the spicy black bean. I liked them all but think I would rate the sweet potato as my favorite, followed by the black bean and then the chicken. $9 for a plate of 3 tacos is a pretty good deal! This place seriously lacked service, hence the 4 stars instead of 5. Their tacos are superb (I prefer the veggie ones - butternut squash, black bean, both 10/10), their cocktails are charming and delicious and beautifully balanced, nachos come with a beer-cheese style queso and I LOVE it, husband had the chorizo torta last time and he seemed very pleased. We tried different meat tacos, the nachos and the guacamole, so here is my advice. 1. Don't arrive starving, their drinks are kick butt awesome and will probably house you. 2. Order the CARNE ASADA TACOS. Whoa. And bring your vegetarian taco lovers, because they have legit options for them too. 3. Don't pay the $6 for guacamole separately. It was small, and we ended up with too many chips. Aka, devoured the guac way too fast. Add it double ($2/time) on to your nachos and you can thank me later. 4. Ingredients are fresh. But I watched a server dump trash out of a bus tub in the trash (full contact) and then set it on the same table as the "clean" glasses and water. It's a great deal. I highly recommend trying a prickly pear dude-a-Rita! Second time around it was date night, so less food was necessary. We had tacos! Rockfish, Carnitas, Tinga, and a vegetarian one with cauliflower and sweet potato. The carnitas by far were my favorite, the pineapple that comes with it is such a pleasant addition. Mmm. A very welcome add to Bellingham! Black Sheep does mainly tacos with a few apps coupled with an extensive cocktail menu. Prices are easy on the pocket and quality is high. The place is small with no TVs, in other word PERFECT! Our food was served quickly and service very friendly. It does get pretty packed on a Friday night so plan accordingly. Good choices for veg/vegans as well as omnivores. The carnitas taco in particular blew my socks off. My only suggestion is offer more heat in he way of hot sauce. So happy to have this place in town. Our loss, this place has a different sense of taco and isn't trying to imitate established favorites. I was honestly hesitant to come here based on prices, but the tacos are actually a pretty good deal, especially when you get the 3 for $9, it's the perfect amount. They are also plentiful, with meat, I had the carne Asada, carnitas and chorizo, the meat was fabulous. It was seasoned nicely, not fatty or grizzly, the carne Asada was surprisingly a cut of brisket, but the flavor was good. The chorizo I really liked. The tacos were all topped with diced onion and cilantro. The carnitas had diced pineapple and the carne with a sweet corn salsa, I liked the play on sweet and savory. The queso Fundido was also very good, a little spicy and very rich. The margaritas were also delicious and a great deal at happy hour. We came on a Saturday night, and there was a short wait before we found seats at the bar. The space is small, but I like the casual and fun atmosphere. I got the carne asada, and the sweet potato & cauliflower taco. The carne asada taco was delicious, with tender, flavourful slices of beef, and the perfect addition of the salsa verde and the sweet corn salsa. For the vegetarians, I would highly recommend the sweet potato and cauliflower taco. It's a good balance of sweet, and a hint of spicy from the salsa verde. Black Sheep has great food; however, as a frequent customer, I was disappointed to see the change in their menu and prices. For example, the tacos no longer come in pairs, they are served individually. You used to be able to get two tacos for $7 or $8. Now, you can get one taco for $5.25. Additionally, last time I went, the service was incredibly slow. I understand that they are a popular establishment; however, we waited over an hour for our food that ended up taking us about 10 minutes to eat. The only thing that hasn't changed is the quality of their food. It does taste good. Regardless, because of my most recent experience, I'm not sure I will be returning to Black Sheep anytime soon. I hope they rethink their new menu and prices. read more

The ambiance was hip and energetic and cozy (small space). I loved the teal paint, funky art, and bottle display in the bartender area.
