We've wanted to try this since moving to WA and we were not disappointed. Its a huge beautifully designed space. We sat in the bar and sis not need reservations. We had a sushi roll as a starter and it was surprisingly pretty good. We had to try a small size of their famous cowboy salad and it was delicious. I had the Butchers Block burger and my husband got the Spicy Crunchy Chicken sandwich. We both got our fries "make your fries the best" ... you won't be disappointed they are amazing! I went back here with a college friend because of nostalgia. We used to go here when we went to Western, like 10 years ago and it was the place to be. The food quality seemed to go down hill but the fries and the drinks still were good. I probably wouldn't recommend going here for a meal but maybe appetizers and drinks only. The Manager at this establishment has the worst customer service I've ever experienced anywhere. He was doing everything possible to discourage my party and I from dining on their front covered patio. Mind you I called in advance and was told it's "first come first serve" so I showed up an hour earlier than everyone in my group to wait for tables in that section to become available. There was no issue until the moment my friends and family began to arrive for my birthday dinner. Then all of a sudden the manger decided he preferred if we could all pay in advance on one check before dining, claiming that was their policy. If this was the case I would have appreciated him telling me over the phone before showing up with 17 people. Or while I was waiting in the bar an hour in advance like I was asked to for that matter. As a person of color I do not like pulling the race card so easily but this time felt almost too obvious, as much as I'de like to make excuses for what I used to believe one of my favorite restaurants in Bellingham. My wife chose the Fish Tacos made with Cod and I chose the Spicy Crispy Chicken sandwich. I thoroughly enjoyed the Spicy Crispy Chicken sandwich. I had the same sandwich yesterday at a different restaurant and I think Scotty Brown's was much better. The chicken was juicy and tender at both restaurants, but the sandwich at Scotty Brown's was crispier and spicier than at the other restaurant. Also Scotty Brown's offers bacon and lettuce as part of their sandwich. I opted out of both. The greeter at Scotty Brown's was very professional and efficiently seated my wife and I. Our server was just a touch more efficient and had us served with our drinks almost immediately. She also gave us just the right amount of time to decide on our orders. I really do not like waiting 10 or 15 minutes to place our orders. My wife and I had barely placed our menus down when the server appeared as if by magic to take our orders. We were able to place our orders, take our time to enjoy our choices, and walk to the theater with plenty of time to be seated in our theater. read more

I ordered a 6 piece chicken wing and I am very cautious about chicken being raw so I cut them open and 3 of them were cooked but the other 3 were raw!!! 100 percent raw with blood and all. When I told the server she said, "It's because we all fry them at the same time so some are raw." what??? First of all made no sense second off all disgusting. Won't be coming back. We went out to Scotty Browns for a family dinner, and we had a very pleasant evening. Although it was a weekday, I made a reservation online to be safe. I also called them later and requested a table on the patio. We were seated at a very nice comfortable booth on the patio. Our waitress was very accommodating. I ordered a glass of Pinot Noir, which tasted old. She was willing to let me get different. My girlfriend could not decide between two different wine, and the waitress brought her samples to try. Good old restaurant service! We shared Crispy Calamari (picture). It was not as oily because it's just dusted with flour. The dusted and fried sliced jalapeños were a great touch. I ordered the Butcher's Block Burger, featuring maple peppercorn bacon on top of a juicy patty (picture). At my son's request, I went with a side of yam fries ($2.75 up charge). My girlfriend ordered the Smokehouse Burger with a "gluten friendly bun" ($2.75 up charge). My 16-year old son went with the healthiest option: potato crusted cod bowl (picture). We all enjoyed our food. The service was solid. The only complaint I have is the $2.75 charge for little substitutions. Visited for my dad's 75th birthday. We had a big surprise planned for him, and Krista understood the assignment perfectly. She went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time. My dad forgot to order his tacos with the pico on the side, and the staff was so kind, they brought out pico-less tacos in less than five minutes, no questions asked. First time to try Scottie Brown's. And my last. fish and chips for me, salad for my friend. Almost $100. (Oh, and i had one non-alcohol beer). But its not the pricing...it was definitively the service. I asked if I could switch to yam fries instead of regular fries? The server smiled and said, "oh yeah, no problem." The problem began when my meal was served. The few fries I had on my plate were cold and completely limp. The server walks up and says, "oh I'm sorry, do you want another side of the fries?" I was impressed that she noticed, and I said yes, I would like some fresh, hot fries. And 20 minutes later (we were near done eating) she sets down an order of fries...and these were good, Hot and crisp on the outside. When my bill arrived...I noticed an extra charge of $3.50 for about 12 fries under my fish. THEN I noticed at the top of the receipt,...the server charged me another $10 for the replacement fries. It's not the end of the world. Scottie Brown's is a bit pretentious about itself. It is NOT the atmosphere the restaurant pretends to be. Take my advice or not. We continue to love Scotty Brown's. It is a nice, upscale, neighborhood place for us. We came by on a bustling Tuesday evening, we were promptly seated inside. Our server was very pleasant and provided good service. The place with filled with movie goers dressed to attend the Barbie movie, made for a fun atmosphere. I had a Cowboy Salad with Chicken and my companion had a Cowboy Salad with Fish Tacos. Both dishes were well prepared and arrived quickly. We love the Cowboy salad with it's like dressing, different salad mixings (including edamame, corn, black beans, walnuts, dates). It's light and nothing over powers the salad, it's just light with nice variation of textures and flavors. Another favorite is a bellini, a go to on the menu. The food is nice, the drinks are great, the staff are kind. But, and I will probably get in trouble for this review since a few family and friends like to go here, they are not a great company. I worked in the food industry for 15 years at some great restaurants in Los Angeles and never came across a company with such little regard for their customers. The first time we went there we were surprised to find out that they didn't have a changing table for parents in any bathroom, and even more surprised to find out that it was a conscious decision by management to not have them even though there were multiple request by customers. Had to change my daughters diaper on the car seat, that was fun. Went again this evening while visiting family, 39 degrees and raining, they told our party to wait outside (15 minute wait, half full restaurant), no heaters, or in the car because it is company policy to not have people waiting for their table. We have a 3 month old so I stayed by the door with our car seat to keep him warm while we waited, thinking no human would say take a 3 month old into the cold. The other 7 of our party went outside to follow their policy. The hostess followed up by asking me to take the baby back to our car to wait, after saying I won't make him wait in the cold. The best part of the evening was watching a table of guest leave the restaurant, the table sat dirty and uncleared for 20 minutes, my wife watched and timed it, and then we were sat at the same table. I like the food and drinks, and the staff, other than the gentlemen who said I should take my 3 month back into the cold or to sit in my car, are very nice. But, clearly who ever is running this company is forgetting the people who make it so successful. Craziest thing about it, aside from the bar, it was prob 90% families with kids sitting at the tables. I like this place, and it is a bummer to give it a bad review, but you definitely need to do better. read more

Scotty Browns has good food. But it will cost you a pretty penny! The atmosphere give the restaurant an upscale feel. But I feel like you can still go casual and you won't feel out of place. The patio area is quite nice on a warm day. It's the perfect place to enjoy a mojito. The menu is somewhat limited. But it seems like the items that are on the menu are a delight for your palate! I appreciate my server. I am sensitive to spicy food but I wanted the rice bowl. I asked for no jalapeños and then she mentioned that the sauce does have a kick to it so I got that on the side. It was a great experience eating it. The chicken was quite salty but everything else was flavorful and enjoyable! We opted not to have dessert because we were full on our entrees. The downside is the cost. The drinks are more and the food is a lot more! I won't be visiting very often for that reason. This is the reason for one star off the rating.
