This place is one of my main go-to places. Great food and, if you are looking for them, great non-alcoholic cocktails. I loved the mixed salad--really terrific. And I also tried something new to me: the duck cassoulet. I loved the duck!!! Crispy and so delicious. I wasn't so crazy about the beans and couldn't manage to make them flavorful enough for me even with salt. So I made up for it, having their outstanding mussels for "dessert," the concept of which both of my servers heartily approved! We got sat in the kids section upstairs (understandably). Food was solid all around, steak was cooked perfectly medium rare. The beet gnocchi was on point as well! The only reason the review isn't 5 stars is because of the service. Slow, inattentive and never gave us a chance to order a second drink and was extremely slow with the check. What a lovely spot! Came here for Valentine's Day with my mom LOLLL and they had a special menu. Made a reservation online and it was really easy to get seated after. We walked into Rock and Rye with no reservations on a Tuesday late afternoon. I will say if there was a ramp for our stroller I would have given 5 stars. But to see no ramp in the front was odd. The dipping broth could have been more flavorful with more garlic or butter? Taste like water down tomato soup. Tacos were great with lots of pork meat. Not local to the area but was in the city for the weekend, so we had to be picky on where to eat. I'd say this place was worth it! Came at exactly 4pm on a Sunday, when they're open again for dinner and we were immediately seated. The restaurant is spacious, with a 2nd floor and bar area towards the back. There were only 2 other parties so service was pretty quick and our server was nice. We came with the intention to just get oysters on the happy hour menu, which is offered all day on Sundays, but the menu looked good so we tried a couple other dishes. We started with a dozen oysters (I believe Olympia) were fresh, sweet, and just the right amount of briny taste. They came with a mignonette but it didn't have as much flavor as I expected, so they also offer cocktail sauce and horseradish if needed. Beef Carpaccio was good, pretty traditional flavors. If you've never had it before, I'd recommend trying during happy hour because the price is good. Poutine with pork belly was a little underwhelming, especially because we've had our fair share of poutine. Fries were crispy and pork belly was cooked well, but I wish we had more pork belly. Gravy was a little on the salty side but the cheese had good pull. Overall, a cute date spot or nice dinner. read more

Like they say on their website, it's a good blend of fine dining & casual. The liquor selection is impressive, with an emphasis on whiskey. I had a glass of the Fremont Mischief Skagit Gold, a local rye. For food, I had a half dozen oysters and the mussels. The oysters were good, but the mussels were outstanding - plump, juicy, and flavorful. The only thing I'd want more of is bread to soak up all the delicious broth. I've also had the duck confit before (also tasty, but slightly different than what's on the current menu). Settled in a historic building with high ceilings, exposed brick, historic maritime photo's lining the walls, and a beautifully romantic outdoor seating area. Seems they have most of the top-shelf goodies available at the bar, along with some very creative non-alcoholic cocktails. The food they serve is very special. Locally sourced, fresh and colorful dishes with seemingly heavy French influence. We shared oyster shooters with house vodka and cocktail sauce, oysters Rockefeller broiled with fresh spinach and pork belly, amazing beet gnocchi made with ricotta and fresh Cascadia mushrooms, and halibut that was perfectly cooked and melted away with a stunning French onion soubise sauce. As full as we were, we still had to try the chocolate torte with raspberry coulis which was basically a chocolate dream-come-true. This is my new favorite place to eat and drink. Excellent service. I ordered a medium rare rib eye steak & first few bites were off the bat extremely chewy to the point I was starting a little pile on my plate... yuck. I just couldn't chew my steak at all. A medium rare steak should be juicy, tender and easy to chew, buttery or soft texture and slightly springy but not tough. I ask for it to be taken back, it's not that I didn't like it- which she wrote on the check when it came time to pay & thankfully took it off our bill. The server came across as snarky saying "the fat is usually not chewable". The steak barely had any fat! Excuse me miss but I know what a medium rare steak is. It was totally inedible. Next time please just keep your comments to yourself. I even asked if she could get me the salmon dish but after her attitude I told her never mind. Needless to say we won't be coming back here. We had a great family dinner here at Rock and Rye last Sunday. We are not local to the area so discovering their All Day Happy Hour (HH) on Sundays was an awesome find. The restaurant is easy to locate and street parking is available directly in front. I like that they take reservations via Yelp, even though it didn't work for me. I had to call in but we decided to show up right when they opened as well. There's no way we were going to miss HH oysters on our last night in Bellingham! The food was absolutely delicious and fresh. We ordered 3 dozen HH Judd Cove oysters, 1 dozen Samish Beauty oysters, HH beef carpaccio, HH brussel sprouts, fish & chips, and 3 (or 4?) orders of HH mussels. No surprise why this place has such great reviews, it's the whole package! Zack greeted me with a sincere kindness. I came in for the salmon, but it was replaced by an amazing halibut.
