My wife and I tried Black Sheep for the first time tonight on recommendation from family. The queso was really great and their 3 different salsas were all so diverse and tasty. We tried the carne, rockfish, chicken tinga, and carnitas tacos and the gyro. We both absolutely loved the chicken tinga and carnitas tacos, but weren't as crazy about the carne and rockfish tacos as well as the gyro even though they were all good. We loved this place! Something new that we hadn't tried before. Between the two of us we had the verde chicken, the sweet potato and cauliflower, the carne asada, and the carnitas & also the queso fundido. We loved everything we ordered!! Delicious little street tacos! I've been three times in as many weeks. The spicy cauliflower packs a heated, flavorful punch. The chicken is mellowed by a generous slab of avocado. Great eats! We were told that this is a great new bar and eatery so we stopped there for lunch on Saturday, March 17. We were the only customers even though the place on the corner was packed and down town was busy. As we were figuring out what we wanted to order, the server seemed impatient even though there was no one else there. We ordered a beer and a cocktail, which was very good. But I was disappointed that they had only 4 beers on tap. We had a variety of three tacos each. The charizzo was the best. The carne was kind of bland. We may return based on other reviews, but the server turned us off a bit. read more

Really enjoyed the vegetarian tacos. I think the corn tortillas were homemade which was a pleasant surprise. I was really happy to see they offered several vegetarian taco options, but was disappointed to see the meat tacos ordered were packaged together with the vegetarian tacos with no barrier. Stopped in to try their veggie tacos and wasn't disappointed. The flavors were on point and everything was well prepared and plated. Service was very friendly, and their upstairs seating area and whole vibe was clearly very well thought out. Cozy, tasteful, brightly lit space, simple, creative menu options, a huge drink list and happy hour all day Sunday. I'm a vegan chef and was pleased with their flavor combinations and willingness to include three veggie tacos on the menu, though all needed to be modified to exclude cheese and/or crema. While the flavors were still excellent, their veggie tacos could be taken to the next level quite easily with the addition of a simple homemade vegan cheese or crema rather than the exclusion of both from all three flavor profiles. I know it can be hard to add additions to the menu, but I feel in a town like Bellingham it would go over extremely well and only widen the already happy client base. If you're gluten-free they do have you covered. Just ask for gf tortillas instead of their corn/wheat version, which is their go-to. Overall, great lunch and atmosphere! read more

We ate there between 5 & 6 this evening. It's kind of a hole in the wall and nothing that would draw you to eat there. The happy hour drinks are on the smaller side which leads you to believe you are not really getting a good deal, but they are just reducing the size to make the price cheaper. Our service experience was less than impressive as I think our waitress checked in on us I think all but one time and that after someone else already took care of us. In fact when she did take our order I got the impression that she had better things to do. Now on to the food. It was really good. Probably the best tacos that I have had. Though on the smaller side, they were priced accordingly and tasted amazing so,all in all, a good value. Comfort wise, Black Sheep is average and typical for this kind of bar and grill...hard, uncomfortable seats. I wish more attention was given to comfortable seating, but that is the exception rather than the rule. Though the experience of dining out is nearly as important as the food, I gave this four stars because I don't want to judge the service there based on one experience and because the food was incredibly good and the atmosphere itself was really fun. It's an innovative approach to a taco place, let's call it a taco pub. The menu is uncomplicated, but still has enough variety to satisfy all involved. It's your classic math problem, If you can have three different tacos and there are 11 choices, how many times can you come to Black Sheep and have a different meal? I don't know and fortunately, they don't make you do the math, they pretty much just focus on making simply-good food. Cocktails are pleasing and the selection on tap is usually the local good stuff. I don't think you can convince these other reviewers to pass on the street tacos, but boy is the taco salad delicious! Bright, colorful, fresh, and savory with the yummy lime crema. This is one of my favorite salads of all time, and I'm, um, sort of an expert. A real salad dumpster from the heart of downtown Seattle. The more tiny cilantro and spices in your teeth at the end, the better. This salad is a delicious steal. And I didn't even get the meat sweats from the steak I added to this salad. How great is that? The atmosphere here (on a Monday night no less) was bumping and fun, bright and open. The bartender was working hard and clearly enjoys his craft. The cocktails are great. I don't think they're overpriced like a couple of reviewers say. They're quality, but again, I live in Seattle. I like that you can seat yourself too. Good times at Black Sheep. A bar that serves tacos and margaritas. WHAT!!!! Truly amazing. The bean dip is to die for also. Love how quaint this place is. The margaritas as incredible and they don't skimp on the tequila! The guacamole is the perfect topper to their chips. The lamb gyro taco is INCREDIBLE and the chicken tinga is my next favorite. The place has expanded and seats more people comfortably. Even with the expansion, the service is fast, friendly and we got our food in a timely manner.
