I checked this place out on a rest day from climbing to study, and wasn't disappointed! The coffee is delicious, and well-priced, and the food is delicious! I had a vanilla latte to start my day, and stayed for a lunch-time meal of a chicken curry bowl. The music was also great at this place, and everyone was very friendly. My only gripe was that seating was limited, as one half of the coffee shop was under construction during my visit. This is obviously part of the process, and I can't wait to see the full shop when it's finished! read more

Came through on a Memorial Day afternoon, busy but not packed. Two baristas working. I needed an extra pick me up for the rest of our drive from LA to Reno. I ordered a large iced vanilla latte. I usually ask how many espresso shots are in them so I can make sure there's at least 4 but since I already had a quad shot latte with breakfast I didn't bother. When we walked out with my drink my husband asked, "what did you order?! It looks like a cup milk!" And honestly that's what it tasted like. Iced milk with a hint of coffee. SO DISAPPOINTED. Absolutely loved the welcoming, inclusive vibe at Black Sheep. I ended up ordering a drink whose name I've unfortunately forgotten but effectively is an iced espresso drink with layers of different milks/creams. I hadn't seen this drink before and absolutely loved it. The atmosphere was nice and quiet, perfect for relaxing and enjoying some coffee drinks. I also appreciated the beans for sale. I picked up some coffee from Burundi and am looking forward to trying it at home. I'm definitely coming here the next time I'm in Bishop! read more

Black sheep is an amazing establishment staffed with compassionate and skilled workers. My family and I just went through a terrible ordeal where my mom went missing. The staff allowed us to make basecamp there and use their WiFi and arrange meetings with media all the while offering the utmost hospitality. Do yourself a favor and visit this establishment. Katie, I am almost positive her name was, immediately poured me tastes of the House Dark Roast and the Brew of the Day: an Ethiopian. First off, props to the staff for enforcing their COVID rules. They have extremely clear signs telling people what they need to do, but reading is hard sometimes/people don't like to listen. The staff was super friendly about it, but didn't mince words when asking people to follow their guidelines. We got a couple vanilla lattes (quad shot for me because I'm an addict) and a bacon breakfast burrito. The barista chose to make the drinks individually, which I appreciate, because they came out absolutely perfect. The bacon breakfast burrito doesn't seem super appealing hiding in a hotbox in some foil, but it punches above its weight and was delicious. The Black Sheep is a small coffee shop that has good coffees and pastries. The clientele was interesting to me. When I was there it was a mix of colorful locals, some climbers, and people like me who wandered in. The service was friendly and the coffee was good. This is my now my fav coffee shop in Bishop. read more

Stopped in for some coffee and beans on the way into town for a long weekend. Nitro cold brew was tasty, but their beans were the real winner. Used up a whole pound of the Guatemala el socorro. Tried it out with pour over, French press, and aero press; it was good no matter the way it was brewed. read more

I hate to leave a negative review but here's the deal: The good: This place serves great coffee and the baristas are friendly and knowledgeable. The bad: I was literally yelled at in front of multiple customers by one of the female store managers for having a rechargeable battery plugged into their power outlet on the patio. I was told that it was completely unacceptable and how could I even think it was ok. Well to be honest, as a paying customer I think it's perfectly acceptable to use a power outlet that was neither locked nor labeled 'do not use'. She proceeded to continue arguing with me as I apologized and tried to explain that she was being unreasonable. She walked away mid conversation repeating 'thank you thank you thank you'. Very rude, completely unreasonable behavior from team leadership. Learn to manage and learn to communicate with customers appropriately. Will be spending my days at Looney Bean when I need my coffee fix in Bishop. Edit: I bumped my review up to 3 stars because the baristas apologized for their manager and did their best to resolve the situation - thank you ladies, your caring was greatly appreciated. In the dozens of visits I've made to Black Sheep, I've yet to have a negative customer experience. Even the one slip up on an order was met with courtesy and humility. That made me feel valued. Perfect little local spot for grab and go. Great coffee! The vegan burrito is solid with all the delicious fillings. It's great value for $6.5. There are also other vegan and vegetarian breakfast, grab and go and pastry options. I haven't attended any but I saw a sign about open mic 1st and 3rd Friday of each month. read more

Located in an alley off the main drag in Bishop is Black Sheep Espresso Bar. We stumbled into this little place looking for breakfast and a good cup of coffee. After camping and hiking for a week eating snacks and dehydrated food I needed a home cooked or similar meal, preferably breakfast. I prefer the out of the way places or unusual spots so this little place attracted me. Black Sheep Espresso Bar is located in an alley with a small outdoor patio with tables surrounded by plants- a huge lavender bush, apple tree and tall sunflowers. We would have missed this place if not for our walk down the alley. People were gathered around the tiny order window and the patio with tables spaced out for ( appropriate) social diatancing was full. Ok, this place looked good! I ordered an egg burrito with potatoes and cheese along with an Americano and steamed almond milk. The wait was longer than expected but the staff were super friendly and very accomodating. The burrito was wrapped in foil, hot and perfectly cooked. My friend ordered a latte and burrito and we both agreed the quality and flavor of the food and coffee was really good and I would highly encourage you to visit this little place. Black Sheep Espresso Bar has a limited menu but serve all the normal coffee drinks. They even have a few souvenirs for sale. Since I'm a hiker, I bought this colorful truckers hat with mountains on it to take home. Im hoping you enjoy Black Sheep Espresso Bar as much as we did!! read more

After we departed, our hiker stayed in Bishop for a zero day (or two) and participated in the open mic night - food, fun and music. As good as it gets. We'll be back! read more

Organized and easy-to-read chalkboard menu, low-key and relaxing decor, wide selection of coffee and tea drinks, vegetarian-friendly food, plenty of Black Sheep merchandise, and friendly baristas. I ordered the Super Sheep, a brewed coffee topped with espresso shots, and I was blown away by how sweet the espresso tasted in combination with their in-house Sunshine dark roast. I only stopped by for a bit while staying in Bishop for the weekend, but Black Sheep will definitely be my go-to coffee stop whenever I return to this gorgeous little town. read more

On a recent business I stopped by there on my way up to Mammoth and on my way back. On my way up I got a Cortado and a Vegetarian breakfast burrito. Both were perfect. The espresso was just write and the sweetness stood out. On my way back I got an English Breakfast Iced Tea and a Iced London Fog. The London Fog was perfectly balanced and with the addition of just a hint of Monin Vanilla, it sent it over the top. The service was fantastic on both trip. Lots of peeps on their computers so I am guessing there is wifi service available. There is also a nice patio w tables & benches in the back where I met an adorable black lab. Just what you are looking for if what you want is a super-good double-espresso. The beans were fresh, the barista knew what she was doing, the pull was great, the crema was as it should be. What more can I say. The only reason I did not give it five stars is because it was not a "god shot" (you know - the sort of shot that makes you see god :-). But I have only had two or three of those ever, so four stars in my book is just about as good as it gets unless lightening strikes. The place was clean, they had what felt like a good community of people there, and they have an open mic night (too bad I was not able to be there for it). I stopped at another coffee place in Bishop right before coming here. The place was absolutely jammed with kids ordering half-caf decalf iced mocha one pump non-fat drinks or 'whatever'. In house brews were tasty, in particular the dirty chai. Since it was so good, we got a bag of beans for home. They turned out to be really bad; over roasted, no oils left. They were bone dry and powdery when ground, no matter what grind size. Almost tasted stale. Also, the staff was less than cordial. Will not go back. read more
