Overall, I thought the two gentlemen who helped me move were courteous and respectful of myself and my belongings. I also thought the ease of scheduling and the timeliness and correspondence was good. The move started off not well when they began individually dragging the mattress and box springs down the wood stairs (not helping each other to carry such a large object). The box spring, which clearly is hard and has hard plastic corners scratched the wood. I asked why they were in such a hurry and couldn't work together, we weren't in a hurry and I didn't have that much stuff! I was pretty upset as this happened in the first 5 minutes and I was moving after selling my condo--I didn't want the final inspection to show scratches and damage that I would have to repair or reimburse. After that I did not have high expectations but following that, everything went smoothly and we completed the move in the time allotted. Although the movers were timely and honest about the rate, they showed no common sense in where to place the furniture, and they didn't ask me where I wanted my furniture. They simply placed the items randomly in different rooms, and when I tried to ask them to change it, they kept telling me they were in a hurry to get to the next location. They left my desk in the middle of the living room and placed sofa and other items scattered around the desk; they left my bookcase in one of the bedrooms; and they placed the chest of drawers right in front of the only window in the room. I felt disrespected and as if I was not important since they were in such a hurry. Oh, and the truck driver almost took out the gate to the apartment. Not sure how I would explain that to the landlord. I will not use them again to move. read more

I personally had very bad experience with Black Tie Moving! This company broke EVERY promise they made and literally scammed me out of my money! I contacted your company to help with my kid's move. The person in charge was Trey Hardin. Simple move within the SAME community so no truck needed, 2 bedrooms, minimum furniture. The move date was set on 08/26/2018 which was essential as otherwise fee had to be paid to landlord for not moving out on-time. The crew shows up on 08/26/2018 at 1:15 PM does the packing. At 2:28 PM crew states that do not have time and will continue the next day and leaves. For 1 hour and 13 minutes of packing your company charged my kid $564.84!!! The next day the crew completes the move between 3:11 PM and 5:28 PM and slaps my kid with another bill $472.88. Obviously charging "service fee" and "fuel surcharge" again. So not only Black Tie does not complete move on Sunday as was agreed upon, they also charged "service fee" twice, charged for 2 hours of labor for the first day just because you have 2 hours minimum policy, charged "fuel surcharge" twice when the truck was not even used for the move, etc. Needless to say that I have to pay $250 to the landlord for not moving on time. Trey promised to resolve the conflict but not calling me back and does not pick up the phone. Company does not reply to my inquiries either so it looks like this business practice is just a normal operation mode for them. read more

I had an excellent moving experience this past weekend with Raoul and Levi. They worked really fast, which helps when you're paying by the hour, and they were also very careful! I've unpacked almost everything and there were no broken items and everything got to new place exactly as it left old place. They were running late to due to uncontrollable circumstances, and Raoul called me to let me know an hour before they were supposed to be there that they'd be a little late. That's great service!! After reading the positive reviews on Yelp and seeing that a Groupon was available I decided to use Black Tie for my local move this past weekend. They were prompt in responding to my calls for a quote, sent over the information via e-mail after we spoke on the phone and followed up to see if I had any questions. I reserved the date weeks in advance and confirmed earlier in the week via e-mail that we were all set to go. They called to confirm my move as well. Moving day rolls around and my moving crew is set to show up between 1 and 4 pm, and to call with an hour notice before they show up. Finally at 3:30, I've not heard from them so I give them a call and leave a voice mail. At 4 pm I get a call back explaining that the first job of the day took much longer and my movers would not be able to come out for several hours, but they would send another crew that was finishing up shortly. The crew finally called me at 5:15 saying they were heading my way, however at this point they then got stuck in traffic and did not arrive until 6:30. Loading up was fast but then when it came to unloading it took a significant amount of time. At first there were issues with the gate at my new complex and then it was a long walk from the freight elevator, but I was able to find a different parking lot for the truck much closer to my unit. Even with the shorter distance it took far longer to unload than any of my moves before. I know both of the guys were doing their best but by 10:30 at night when they had been working since 6:30 am they were not at their peak. The next day as I'm coming back to my apartment using the first floor entrance, I notice a large suitcase under the stairs that go up to my apartment. Oh wait, that's MY suitcase. They had left my suitcase under the stairs instead of bringing it up to my apartment! I'm lucky I had gone in a different way otherwise I would not have seen it for days or someone could have taken it. I understand that sometimes moves take longer than expected, however the customer service was really lacking with my move. I'm disappointed that I was not contacted earlier (as I would have stayed at work longer), that nothing was offered to help rectify the situation ( I was just told how long the first move took and how they didn't expect that), and that the other original crew wasn't sent out to help finish up the move as it was taking so long. I was hoping Black Tie would reach out to me over the next couple of days to apologize for the situation and make sure everything went smoothly but I have not yet heard from them. read more

We hired them to assist us with our recent move because there was a shortage of moving trucks. Initially we were satisfied with the services that we were going to be provided. However the day came and we had heard nothing from them. They were supposed to be at our house between 8 and 9 AM. At 9:30 I called to inquire why they still had not arrived. They finally arrived around 9:45. The quote we received was for two trucks and six men but what arrived was only one truck and three movers. We were quoted that it would take approximately nine hours to load our truck drive it an hour and a half to our new location and unload our truck. But that was supposed to be with two trucks and six people moving us it ended up I had to leave my husband and one of the movers at our house while the other two movers drove the truck to our new house and began unloading. We were told that another truck and crew would be arriving but that never happened. The 2 guys unloaded the truck at our new house and the had to go back and load the truck again. By that time another truck and 3 more guys had arrived. The unloading went until 11:45 pm and they didn't even finish! The 2 original guys had to come back the next morning and complete the move. During this process my husband was on the phone with someone from corporate and was told that our situation was not how they did business and that they were short staffed and told we would "be compensated for our troubles." So what a surprise when told what our final total was! More than $1,500 over the original quote and in the end what was quoted to take less than 12 hours took about 20 hours. And we've tried repeatedly to contact them regarding the amount we paid and of course no one will call us back. read more

EDIT (SAME DAY AS INITIAL REVIEW): The Branch Manager called to apologize for the issues and to refund us for a portion of our time, and also mentioned the push their team will make to make sure that COVID/CDC guidelines are in place for all moves. I'm grateful to the company for acting quickly on our feedback and doing their best to make up for the issues. I'm changing my review to reflect this because I appreciate the speed in getting back to us and that they were willing to make up for the concerns we had. INITIAL POST: We had Black Tie move items from a 1 bed, 1 bath apt (tv, couch, w/d, bed frame, mattress, tv stand, bookshelves, coffee table, dresser, and approx 6 boxes) to a 2 bed apt, both with elevators. We moved everything else in the apartment by hand including all clothes, shoes, dishes, appliances, etc. AND we had the mattress already in a bag (with handles) and the furniture/tv/etc. all wrapped and ready to go. we did all of this to try to save time and money. We also did NOT have them bring the washer OR the couch up to the new apt. We were told by the person who booked our service that the movers would be able to get to our location between 1-4pm, but based on the timing of their job before, he estimated they could be there right at 1pm. We knew that there was a chance they'd be later, but we reinforced to him that we had to rent our apartment's elevator and only had 2 hour windows where we could hold it so we had reserved it from 1-3pm. The movers finally called at 2:15 saying they were 5 min out, but after 15 min, we called them again to see where they were and they, again, said they were 5 min out, then they finally showed up at 2:45. The men were very nice and handled our items carefully, but did not wear masks at all throughout this move, and were understandably frustrated because the company threw this job on them last minute when they thought they were done for the day. No fault of the 2 movers, that's more on the company. With minimal time to use the elevator, we let them know that we had a time limit, since another resident was using the elevator for a move at 3pm. Our movers went downstairs at one point to apparently get their dollies (we didn't know this is where they went) but after 15 min, they hadn't come back up. Finally they came up and said they had gotten locked out of the building (but they didn't tell us they were leaving so none of us knew to go with them to hold the door or give them a key fob, and they never called us...they just waited for someone random to open the door). After finally moving everything into the new truck, we all loaded up to drive one apt to the other which is, at most, a 30 min drive (taking into account they had a big truck to navigate through traffic). It took them well over 45 min to get to the area because they missed the exit multiple times, and then they called us to tell us they couldn't find the place. We know it can be a bit tricky to get into the parking lot, so we helped try to guide them over the phone, which ended up taking an additional 15 min. When they finally got here, we ended up helping bring a few items up to speed things up, and after it was all said and done, a little less than 3 hours later, we were told that the final cost was one number...we said "that includes everything? this is the total?" and they said yes, and then we were asked to confirm that the job was done to someone from the company over the phone. Under the impression that this "total" number was our TOTAL, because that's what we were told, we assumed this included the $150 charge held at booking that the office guaranteed would be credited to the final total and we also assumed that the movers had adjusted for their time locked outside and travel issues (especially since there is an initial $129 service fee that they said while booking includes TRAVEL), and we felt that total was fair. So we agreed over the phone that the job was done and the total was fair. After getting the invoice and charges, we noticed that the total said was much higher than we had been told at the time of the end of the move and that both the number we were told was our "total" was actually just the remaining balance that would be charged IN ADDITION to the $150 holding fee. Confused, I tried calling and left a message, but got no response. Tried again the next day, no response or call back. Tried again the next day, finally got ahold of someone, and after explaining our situation, he said there is nothing he could do and that the phrasing used to explain our "total" was probably just poorly worded. We were all disappointed and left stressed and overcharged. read more

Would not recommend to anyone. The company advertises a low false rate online and then try's to charge you a service fee that was almost more than the hourly charge. This service fee included moving equipment, truck, and multiple other items and services that I simply did not need. After reaching out to customer service I was told that they couldn't do anything and I was stuck paying the charge. They are so slimy that they didn't even include the dollar amount quote of the move in the confirmation email. Movers who moved our stuff were nice and did their jobs correctly, I would just avoid the business due to front office policies and procedures. Joseph Hunter, absolutely amazing. This guy went above and beyond to ease all my concerns before, during, and after my move from Dallas to Austin. He came by the Dallas place and the Austin place on his own time, out of his way, to check on my move and see how it went. There were some hiccups during the move, and not once did he talk to me like a car salesman or a corporate defense script. He listened and he cared. I first used this company almost 5 years ago and have since used them multiple times. I feel like I owe them another review. This last move was a smaller move for my mother as we moved her from a condo to a new house. The crew you have can make or break the moving experience and each move has had a different crew... We are either incredibly lucky or Black Tie has this figured out. This last team assigned to our move was great. While I was not there to oversee the details, everything went perfect and the dear sainted mother was happy with experience . It was a 1/2 day move and we were their second job of the day. They ran a bit late (expected if you are the not the first move), but they called frequently to give us updates. Once onsite, the work was careful and diligent. Quality work and professionally done. I also have an extremely bulky, heavy entertainment center that I had been trying to sell, solely based on the nightmare of moving it. Submitted a quote request online, got 2 text messages, an email, and a phone call within 1 minute. Trey gave me a quick estimate and had me scheduled for a move out of my apartment the very next morning between 8 and 9am. Mike called me and let me know he was about 30 minutes out, around 8:15 am, and they showed up at 8:45 am. Mike and Shawn were very pleasant and easy to work with. Made sure all the items were packed properly, let me know how they planned to get everything on the truck, and we were loaded up in a little over 1 hour. They completed the move in 2 hrs and 15 min (including the 25 min drive to the house), and had me unloaded without any incident, showing a lot of care to my furniture and house. Extremely deceiving and unethical. No detailed invoice to provide explanation of the amount I was charged. Estimate was ~$100 less than what I was actually charged. After looking over the invoice which had no detail, I reached out looking for clarification & was met with the following response: "All of the information should have been addressed in your sales call with Ben, and what wasn't is in the estimate email." Again - the emailed invoice only included estimates, for example: est. time 2.5 hrs. The move took 1.15 hours, yet this was not noted. I highly recommend this moving service for anyone looking to hire experienced, friendly, cost-effective, quality movers. They showed up on time in the pouring rain and got to work; never slowing down. They wrapped all the furniture carefully and loaded our entire 2800 sqft house into their 36 ft truck and brought it over in one load! Once they arrived at our new home, they literally rolled out the red carpet for us. They wore matching tuxedo tshirts which I thought were absolutel adorable! Even though the rain never slowed down throughout the afternoon, they still worked as swiftly as possible, careful to take special care of our belongings and deliver them to the respective rooms/areas and assemble at no extra charge. The guys were very nice and had such a sweet attitude and seem to really enjoy working for that company. Prior to the move, Riley was so friendly and helpful even we changed the move date 3 different times! They were always quick to answer their phones when you call or return your call within minutes. They were recommended to me by a friend so I assume it would be a great experience. But not the case. First of all All they were suppose to do is unload my truck that I drove in from out of town. I was told that the price would be $99 an hour even though it says $89 an hr. on their website for local moving, plus $99 setting up fee, which I assume that meant putting my furniture where I wanted it and assembling my bed. But that was not the case all these guys did was literally unload the truck and drop it off inside and that was it. I assembled my bed by myself and put the furniture where I wanted it. not to mention that when it was time to pay $99 hr x2 plus the $99 set up fee I was told that I had to pay an additional $21 in fuel surcharge. For one I was never told that when I booked them and two why do I need to pay a fuel surcharge when the only fuel they used was to drive there to my apartment building and unload my truck. I have never experienced service like this with a moving company and i'm in the business where I pretty much move every 8 - 10 months. Not to mention I will have a very difficult time to recommend this company to any of my residents. I am changing my review to a 4 star because they contacted me to remedy the situation and gave me a partial refund for the confusion. I am satisfied with the outcome. :) read more

I haven't hired movers before and I was going into this whole thing thinking I was going to be ripped off and the movers would be slow "milk the clock". I couldn't have been more wrong. The two guys that I had were the most professional, friendly and efficient crew that I could have asked for. They came in, never took a break, took care of everything I needed and made the move about 2 hours shorter than what I was anticipating. I used BT on the advise of my realtor. Used them for a 3-stage move. (3 times in about a months time) my rating has detiorated from 5, to 3 to now 2 stars. I spent a total of about $2500. The last crew was supposed to professionally pack and move the remainder of the items in my home. Upon opening the boxes it was clear they we're not professional packers or anymore ept to pack then I was. Expensive and fragile items (electronics, watches, sunglasses, musical instruments, wall art) tossed about in large boxes, (with no protection) with things like cleaning supplies and tools. There are several items of valuable that are unaccounted for. I will not make any accusations regarding these missing items until I triple check and determine without a doubt the items are missing. Very dissatisfied with this organization. I suspect many of the positive reviews on here are due to a link asking for reviews, offering a $25 credit, of which I might add, I did not receive. I found my Sonicare toothbrush lying loose in a box with a toilet plunger, toilet brush, which all were unwrapped. Disgusting!! Make sure you supervise the items being moved and check your furniture after it has been unloaded. The bad: almost every piece that was moved had some sort of damage to it. Corners dinged, scratched leather, wall damage, paint chipped, some black stains on furniture, etc. Some of the damage wasn't discovered until later on and they won't budge on talking to you about it. Moved on time but my drier stopped working after the move. When I requested them to look into it they just said they cannot do anything if there is no external damage. I have moved so many times in my years of staying in Dallas this has never happened most moving companies ensure all the appliances are working as expected. Beware - their team shattered my large glass conference table. They said that day that they would replace it the next week because they have a relationship with a glass company. Never called. A week later and no table replaced and now they're saying they "mis-spoke" and they can only pay $0.60 per pound as a claim. They don't provide written documents when they arrive for your move. Their "contracts" are on a cell phone of one of their workers. Do not trust these people. Get all of your documents in writing, emailed to you before they arrive. They have about eight things they want you to sign, but you won't see them until someone puts a cell phone in your face on the day of move and says "sign here." They also say they can take apart and assemble your furniture. Our large format printer is laying in pieces. They took it apart, didn't put it back together and the screws are missing. Did they come and fix it upon notice? No. They told me to call someone to have it fixed and they can reimburse me. The management of this place is not trustworthy. Try Rhino. I've used them before and they're focused on customer service and fix any issues they create. I hate they weren't available on the date I needed them. read more

Over an hour late to start with, and overall I would have said I was satisfied with our move mostly until I realized that (although they did break two of our items- a nightstand and a lamp- and they scratched paint so badly as well) our movers packed up our Master bedding and pillows in our room, did not mark the box and a day later we still have not found it. We to use couch pillows and a small tiny blanket we could find when the move was done. I reached out to the head mover's cell to see if they had any idea who packed it or where they put it... he did not respond to the multiple texts I sent and just ignored me. Today (the next day) I also called the company's line back and left a message. I was told we would receive a call back from the CEO- no call ever came. I was up the majority of last night in severe pain because I use a special expensive pillow for my TMJ so it does not flair up. I am very frustrated they could not he bothered to return a call so we could have an idea of where to look for this box. People want their sheets and pillows to sleep on. Over $4,000 spent on their move plus a generous tip to the movers themselves and we provided over $150 in a dinner for the movers from Soulman's BBQ to thank them- I would expect they could AT LEAST call me back to attempt to help me locate where they put this box.
