I recently moved from Nashville to Dallas and used Black Tie. Full marks to them for willing to come down and take a look at all the stuff that needed to be moved before providing a quote, and then coming back with a very competitive quote. Interactions with the team on mail, calls or even the actual helpers during the move were always reasonable and friendly. However, the move itself had more chaos than one would expect. For starters, the packing at Nashville started a little late and then took almost 9 hours. I was told by the team lead that he had been given 2 contractors who were not pulling their weight. While I could see that was true, and that the 3 who were working had to put in a lot of effort even to finish within 9 hours, this caused a lot of challenges with other plans. When it was time for the unload at Dallas, the crew included 4 helpers (instead of the 5 promised on contract), I was told it was a busy time of the year hence the shortage on hands available. Several items had been damaged, a table and some lamps completely broken, a mattress was missing. No mention was made of compensation, or even the insurance and what was covered (since I had purchased extra insurance). The team unloaded and quickly left, and I was simply too tired by then to want to have further conversations. One bed was not put together as screws had been lost, I was told someone would contact later to fix this, no one has (it has been a week now). The crew clearly had to work harder to make up for what they were not being given by the company. I continue to be on their side, they were nice guys in a bad situation trying their best, made sure to tip them well for their efforts. However, I don't think Black Tie really lived up to its claims of a high quality and painless move, and caused several challenges simply taking up more business than they could handle with their own employees. In the end, this might be true for most movers, and my experience was not terrible, not even close. But wanted to put this out there to ensure people are aware that all the claims made by Black Tie's website (and their initial team interacting with you) are not necessarily backed with impeccable service. This moving company has far exceeded my expectations. I've done many cross country moves and I have to that this has been the best moving experience ever! From start to finish, I got the 5 star treatment. When Mitch arrived to my home to give me an estimate, he was professional and courteous. He sent out a 3 man crew consisting of Eric, Dillon and Demarcus. These guys were fantastic! They moved so quickly and were also so professional and courteous. The movers themselves were excellent. When it came time to pay the bill, they had charged a number of fees including an additional $119 "service fee." I spoke with the manager and even though I had a transcript of the call, he insisted he mentioned it. They said they sent an email, which was never received. I would have never booked with them had I know about their fees. They also charged a $36.00 fuel service charge, the cost of gas is $1.36/gallon and the distance between the 2 locations was less than 4 miles. Feel free to use this company if you want to pay double for your move. As for me and my clients, I will never, ever use Black Tie Movers again. read more

We used Black Tie moving to take just some of the big furniture from our old house to our new house. They called to say they would be an hour later than our appt window, and then proceeded to be 30 minutes later than their estimated time. Once they arrived, they took their time (at one point I saw a team member on the floor stretching) in what I can only imagine to be an effort to extend their on the clock time. They also managed to break one of our bookshelves in the process. When driving to our new house (which again is 2 miles up the road), they drove completely out of the way, to the point where I was able to go pick and pay for a pizza and still beat them to my new house. I feel like I wasted money on the most inefficient and time wasting movers I have ever seen. read more

This was one of the worst experiences I've had with a company. The movers were very forthcoming with all the ruined items that were damaged in the Black Tie Storage Facility. Two memory foam mattresses were completely soaked through and ruined. Multiple boxes were soaked through, destroyed, and had broken items in them or thrown into other boxes. Multiple missing items are now being realized as we unpack (theft or ruined to the point of not being returned?). Rude claims process. And, very notably, they did not show up on schedule (with no forewarning) leaving me camping in my new place for 2 full days. While movers themselves were friendly, the experience that must have happened in the storage facility and scheduling were beyond anything imaginable. I had really high hopes based on past reviews, but they were dashed and now I'm being offered literal pennies on the dollar for the loss and theft. read more

Use anyone else!! Very unreasonable prices especially after the move. They don't know how to give an estimate close to what it ended up being. seemed to be no actual leaders in the company. Overheard movers talking about how they don't get paid for the work they do which made the experience stressful because everyone else is stressed about whether they are getting paid or not. Kevin was rude with me raising his voice when I had a question about the estimate and why he only sent 3 people for and entire house. The movers were excellent and very friendly. The office staff, sales force and dispatchers really need to get their act together so that everything does service to the moving effort. I was told the fee in town was $99 for the move and $99 for the truck. Given that it was a washer and dryer this seemed steep but since I was moving it out of a home other than mine, it was important the care be given. I was essentially told at the move that third-party insurance would be needed in case of damage to moved items (or presumably the house) and that I would need to pay for it if I wanted it (my experience with other movers is that even if you purchase it, it will never be remitted, so I declined.) When they arrived, with the 2 items at my house, I was told about a 2 hour minimum, which would have made it $300 to move a washer and dryer a short distance which all in took 20 minutes. Then I was told they would surcharge me if I used a credit card and so I had to write a check. Also, I was scheduled for 1, and then afterward I was told it was a 1-4 window. I was called somewhat after 11 and they said they could do it then, but otherwise it would be later in the day, during the I-4 window, but likely after 1. So we arranged to go at the earlier, unscheduled time, even though this was not ideal and I had to change a medical appointment as a result. I will be watching to assure that they do not run my credit card through, as well. I was there with my assistant who also caught all of this dialogue. I sincerely object to their business practices, although their movers are excellent, cautious and very nice. Too bad the other staff isn't as good and isn't especially cautious or clear with customers, leaving the movers to give the switcheroo information, which is also unfair. read more

First off when you call this company the message states the BEST moving experience ever. Our experience was the total opposite. To start off we repeatedly asked to have an in person estimate completed but were told on more than one occasion that they could do the estimate based off some basic questions and size of our home. We took them as the experts and went along with it. On the day of the move we were given a time of 8-9 for the arrival. The arrived after 10 which on moving day was scary as we began to panic on what we would do if they didn't show. During the move several breaks were taken as it was hot I expected that even though I was charged for that time. Two beds and a crib were disassembled and the movers lost the screws on transport. Luckily we made a sweep of the house and the outside and found them on the ground outside. When arriving at our new house now four hours behind schedule movers began placing boxes wherever they wanted instead of where they were labeled. We took two days picking up and moving boxes in the correct places. The beds were reassembled but both beds were assembled without the support brackets. Instead of informing us of this the movers hid the extra parts under the bed. Completely unprofessional and unsafe. On top of all this the amount of damage done to our items is ridiculous. One dresser, one nightstand, one floorstanding speaker, desk, and this doesn't include that we opened five or six boxes that all items inside were broken(we did pack ourselves). Also they broke the garage door at our old house and didn't inform us. They had to open manually to move some boxes in storage and the garage came off track. After all this and now they have gone 5 hours over the original estimate and including the 8 percent trip fee they don't include in their estimate we spent almost a thousand dollars over the original estimate for terrible service. I would not recommend this company to anyone and will be taking further action. read more

I thought I hired reliable and competent moving professionals, based on the previous reviews but for the Atlanta location, that couldn't be further from the truth, it is a hot mess! My advice to Blacktie Moving is - arrive on time, and don't ignore your customers calls/emails when they try to alert you of problems occurring with your moving teams, don't run $3000 of unauthorized charges on your customer's credit card without their permission for services NOT rendered and then IGNORE them, and most importantly stand behind the quotes you give and DON't Damage 60-70% of your customer's property!!!!!!!! I trusted this company with my household move, and after spending nearly $12,000 and suffering significant damage to my property- I am sorely broken-hearted and disappointed. My valuables are destroyed and communication is poor at best. It was so bad they had to bring in teams from other states to try to correct the problems, unfortunately the damage was already done, too little, too late. Hopefully by writing the review of our TERRIBLE experience this won't happen to another unsuspecting family. I do not recommend this Atlanta based company. read more

Went well with these guys. They didn't damage anything they moved, were very friendly, and didn't start charging us for time until both movers were there (one of the two was about 15 minutes late). They packaged everything well and didn't leave door dings or knock any paint off the walls at either location. The only critique we had is it took a little longer than we felt like it should have for the amount of stuff they handled. It took 4 hours to move three couches, one chair, a full size bed, a coffee table and a TV 20 minutes down the road. We didn't have them move any of our small stuff (boxes, clothes, appliances, dressers) in order to save time and money. They had to stop for gas between locations which left us waiting for almost 20 minutes at our new place. Would use them again in the future, would just watch the clock a bit more closely. read more

black tie moving services robbed me of the two greatest joys in my life: sleeping in a nice bed, and organizing my video game collection. let's back up a bit here. this is a moving service with an admirable volume of 5 star reviews (are people getting paid for these?) and i am not a picky customer. at the beginning of may, i had a very simple objective: move from building 1 of my apartment complex to building 3- an overall distance of like, 200 feet . i own about 3 pieces of furniture and nothing more valuable than a collection of autographed george r.r. martin books. i was moving into a studio apartment that makes dorm rooms look spacious. i should've been the easiest client for professional movers- the ungraded, open-book exam of relocating. but before you think i am dead-set on writing a scathing review, let me tell you what black tie did right, because there were several good points: 1. they were the first to call me back with a quote- and it was the best one of the lot. i did my research, i called multiple companies. the manager who contacted me with an estimate was friendly, professional, and reassured me that a move like mine would not exceed the 2 hour minimum. all the other reps that called me back from competing moving companies sounded like they hated their lives and also mine. 2. the movers showed up on time and seemed like great dudes. i really liked the two young men who patiently hauled my boxes of biochem textbooks and pokemon merchandise through a hot, miserable saturday afternoon. they were kind and friendly and i'd play halo with them anyday. 3. when the move ended up taking FIVE HOURS, the boys were very gracious and did not charge me significantly more than what was initially quoted. that was deeply cool of them, although to this day i still can't fathom how it took so long to drive a truck from one parking lot to the adjacent one. my total disappointment in black tie isn't so much with the hardworking young men, but with the pointlessness of the company behind them. the movers (1) broke the glass shelves in my entertainment stand and (2) lost my bed hardware. i wasn't upset; these things happen. one of the movers promised me that he'd replace the shelves himself on his very next day off, and gave me his cell phone number. life went on; i was reasonably pleased. but here's the thing: it's over 3 months later and my entertainment stand is still barren and my video games are waiting in boxes to be alphabetized and admired. i am still sleeping on my mattress on the floor like a broke college student while my bedframe is useless and unassembled. black tie moving's customer service has been so abjectly unhelpful that i could never recommend them for anything except professionally making false promises. after multiple calls to inquire politely about my replacement shelves and bed hardware, i finally spoke to a manager who reassured me that everything would be handled immediately (or, you know, two months after my move). i'd get a call from my mover who was responsible for the glass shelves, i'd receive a reimbursement check for the cost of repurchasing all the bed hardware. like a deadbeat dad who promises to take his kid to disneyland for his birthday, she soothed me with hopes of decisive action and timeframes. of course, it never happened. your dad sent you a lousy mickey mouse birthday card instead; black tie moving never called, emailed, or sent a reimbursement check of any kind. nobody at that company cares about problem resolution after things go wrong during a move. and sure, i know it was glass and hardware and not like an original picasso or bags of nazi gold, but those things were important to setting up my home and it really sucks that my many follow-up attempts were disregarded. like, if you're not going to replace my stuff, just tell me "lol too bad sucker." don't keep making false promises and stringing me along. if i wanted that in my life, i'd go date an unreliable dude. read more

Alright. I wanted to love Black Tie because of the reviews but it just didn't work out that way. It started out, I contacted BT a month before I moved because I wasn't sure of my moving date due to the selling of my home. In the meantime, the sales Rep called my phone every other day even with me telling them I would contact them once I knew my move date. That didn't really bother me but once I knew my definite date, they scheduled me in on a Monday. I filled out the move sheet indicating my square footage of my two story home and the new address where it would be going. The morning of our move, we got a call from the movers saying they would be late, but that didn't bother me either since it was 7:30am. The movers finally arrived around 8:10am and upon arrival, my husband noticed that not only was it a rental truck of another company but that it was a lot smaller than what we would need to move our 2800 sq ft house!! Once the guys did a walk through, they informed us that their larger truck had been dispatched out of town and that the other trucks were being used that day so they had to rent a truck. The guys were super sweet and professional and very mannerable so my complaint is not specifically with them. 4 hours in, and halfway through filling the truck, one of the gentlemen told us that they were informed that my house was a 4 hr job. What?? There was no way a house that size would be packed and moved ACROSS TOWN in 4 hrs! Apparently this was misjudgment on the back end. They also informed us that they wouldn't be able to fit everything into the truck in one trip. By this time, it's been over 5 hrs and we hadn't even left the house! Needless to say, my husband and I were livid. Not only did they bring a much smaller truck after knowing what all I was moving, but they never informed me that it wouldn't fit. They finally packed up what they could into the moving truck and headed an hr to the new place. They did a good job wrapping all the furniture and moving as quickly as they could but it still took 8 1/2 hrs which wouldn't be an issue IF we got all my furniture. We had to rent YET ANOTHER moving truck the following day & find friends that could help, to go back and get everything the movers left! Someone at the office knocked off $100 for the "inconvenience " but it didn't feel like a nice gesture since my husband had to call them to complain. One of the movers told me that since they were told that my move was suppose to be 4 hrs, they had another move scheduled after me but would have to cancel due to the miscommunication. I am not sure if this was an incident based off greed or miscommunication. But seeing as though I paid over $1k for an incomplete move and still had to go through the trouble of renting additional equipment to finish, I feel like I was given the shorter end of this bargain. UPDATE: After writing this review I began to receive threatening and harassing text from the owner and his staff. We have mutual contact on Facebook and he began attacking me personally me on Facebook and cyber-bullying me. His contacts began to reach out and harass me, all over an accurate review of my personal experience. This will be YOUR experience if you hire this company and have the unfortunate experience I did. *****DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY!!! I too thought the mixed reviews were possibly not true until they no call no showed on me. After great difficulty and expense, I finally got another company move me and then I began to dig and do my research on this company. The results: the company was grown online, with reviews being posted simply by acquaintances, very few actual clients. There is a very high turn over of staff. The negative reviews are absolutely legitimate and accurate, the positive are all highly suspect. Communication with the office/ management staff is difficult to nearly impossible. I was upset, disappointed and frustrated and will never do business with this company again. The owner never answers the phone or returns calls. read more

No stars would be better. "Move" is a four-letter word for us anyway. My husband's job had us scooting across America to various impermanent locations and the furniture has taken the brunt end of it all with visible imperfections. We've been stole from, gained another's treasures, and presented with a bounty of war-torn odds and ends. We decided to make one last move and re-homed in Arkansas. It all sounded so exciting. Until . . . the familiar thought of hiring a moving company. POW! Another proverbial shot in the gut. Dread. Dread. I told my husband whoever promised to be the best movers in town would get the job. Black Tie Moving professed "Luxury Moving At A Price You Can Afford." They even moved pianos! We settled on a date; four BTM men (boys) showed up on time, dressed in black 'tuxedo' shirts, and went to work. BTM used heavy moving blankets (@20 each!) for protection of the items. Unfortunately, I had to leave for Arkansas to close on the new house, leaving them to their own recognizance. A week later, two large PODS were in our driveway. We hired a local (and reputable) company to unload/unpack/set-up. They also looked professional and willingly undertook the job. I watched them like a hawk as they opened the PODS. To my horror, my most precious antique umbrella stand was glaring at me, pleading for release from bondage. It was jammed in tightly, and the top was caught up in the rolled door. HEAVY boxes had been loosely thrown on top. On top of the boxes was a 65" tv, free-floating on its back like a raft on water. The Arkansas guys worked diligently to get things unjammed and safely in the house. They continued to remove the heavier furniture. The leader (we'll call him 'Gary') showed me where BTM put the framed paintings and pictures in between and in the middle of the heavy pieces. I wept as Gary slowly unwrapped an original painting. The shards of glass had scratched and ripped into one of my beloved pieces of art. The more they unloaded, the more my heart broke. This was THE worst packing job yet. And now, I'm unable to contact BTM's corporate division. Better Business Bureau and an attorney is our next option. Thanks for listening! read more

I would have given less stars if possible. I have used these guys before and had better results, but this time was a disaster. They broke my 60" Samsung and tried to deny it, and got grease all over a brand new couch. They are not insured but use a 3rd party company of which I am sure is only to be compliant with the State. I have already bought a new tv as the 3rd party company looks like a fly by night bs insurance company,and they tried to clean the couch but did not come out clean. I had to pay a fine with my condo because they did not follow the rules. I would shop around and find a company that will guarantee THEY will pay for any major losses up front! read more

My experience started out with ever increasing fees with each email I received. I was not happy about that, and my push back did yield some relief on the bill. Your estimate begins with the first hour being double the rate. This is purported for supplies, expenses, etc. Interesting as the then throw a fuel surcharge on the estimate as well (received three emails later). Also interesting as my tools and supplies were used more than theirs. They arrived with 2 trucks, which in the long run saved me money. The crew was professional and hard workers. Note, this was a cross town move of 13 miles from my old home to the new one. 2 Hic ups. They wouldn't touch my large refrigerator, they were scared to break it. Interesting as their ads tout they move anything. Had I not broken down the unit to get it out of my house, I'd had to pay another company to come move it. Then I had to reassemble it myself at my destination. As they did reassemble as required, they were unaware of how to attach a mirror to a dresser. It came close to crashing on my wife as it was simple placed upon the top of the dresser and not secure in the back! Luckily I caught it in time. Again, the staff was very nice and were in constant motion, but the other issues I faced would have me question using them again read more

They're reliable, efficient, and were very accommodating. I was moving my loft from Dallas to Carrollton, and they were prompt and were easy to work with. I didn't have any concerns with them handling my fragile(s) and wrapped the tvs for me securely for transporting. The move took place during the summer, and here in Dallas, we know how extreme weather can really put people in foul moods with our triple digit heat. WOW! Hands down the best moving company I have ever hired. If you read my previous reviews, you'll know that I haven't had very good experiences in the past. The day of the move, Brent and Drew called me when they were on the way and even arrived five minutes early. They asked to do a quick walk-through and I explained how we had things set up. Within minutes, they were loading boxes and wrapping furniture. They were incredibly efficient and careful, and gave me updates along the way. Brent would walk over every few loads and let me know that certain items would need to go in my car if I didn't want them to break or move around. I like that he actually told me that rather than chancing it. We ended up only having one item that broke, but it was my fault (oops!). Once we arrived at our new place downtown, they quickly backed the truck into the loading dock and began loading our freight elevator. They made the best use of time and we actually got done almost an hour before I had originally planned. Woo hoo! Using the Groupon I had purchased was not an issue and there were NO surprise charges. They charged to the minute that we finished and not a second over. *I do have just ONE tiny issue, but it has nothing to do with the two guys that moved us. After calling two months in advance to get a quote, I got called by the company 4-5 times asking if I was ready to book my move. I can totally appreciate a courtesy call and I love that they wanted my business, but please just call once or twice. It was a tad bit excessive. read more

I was disappointed to not hear back and ended up not following up with them - moves are busy enough without having to chase down movers and reminding them to give you a quote. Black Tie Moving was prompt and packed most of our belongings well. They were flexible enough to move things to two separate locations, and we liked their pricing model. However, they completely missed one kitchen cabinet. I was lucky to catch that on my final walk through and packed it myself. They also put two serious scratches in the hardwoods, which I tried to cover with a furniture color stick for the new owners of the home. When I sent the lead an email with pictures of the scratches and the cabinet that was not packed as requested for "any issues" at the end of the move, I never heard from them again. read more

Company did a no-call/no-show on the day of my scheduled move. Also, I left two voicemails and never received a call back.

BEWARE: This company uses bait and switch tactics. As far as the friendlies and actual moving service I'm pleased, however their insurance is a joke. When I first contacted the company I was told they were "fully insured" and based on the reviews here they seemed like a reputable company. I had no reason to doubt this. And they were the only company that agreed to move my 300 gallon aquarium without charging a separate specialty item fee. That should have been a red flag, but this being my first time using a moving company, I didn't think much of it at the time. When they arrived, the movers were very friendly and got right to work, not wasting time for which I would be charged. One mover worked with me on signing all the paper work, while they others began packing things up. Of-course I didn't pay much attention to what I was signing, just like anybody else who thought they were working with a reputable company, and believed what they were initially told over the phone. Of the items being moved, there were a two items that were particularly valuable and fragile, the 300 gallon aquarium and a 75" lcd TV. The TV didn't have a box, and the movers did not ask if I would like to purchase one of theirs. They simply wrapped it up and loaded it up. The aquarium was last as it was the heaviest and they may have needed a 4th guy (who never showed up). The 3 guys there attempted to move it, but were unable to pick it up. So the company decided they would send out a stronger three man crew the next day just for the aquarium. No problem, I'm flexible on that, and they were only going to charge me for loading and unloading time, not travel. Ultimately the second crew was not able to move it as well, and for this I'm very grateful, as the nightmare starts with the TV, and it would have only been worse if they damaged the aquarium. When the movers unpacked the TV, I set it up right away (it was Sunday, had to get the football games on). When I powered it on, I saw the dreadful crack running down the left side of the screen. Disappointing yes, but I understand accidents happen. The company was "fully insured" as I was told. ill just submit a claim and get this replaced no big deal. Or so I thought. When I submitted the claim I was never asked the model number, which I thought was very odd. they only asked the size and weight of the TV. Why would they ask for weight? It was an odd question at the time, but I sent them the weight thinking maybe they were just seeing how much the movers needed to pick up when they moved it, or something along those lines. A week passed by with no contact, so I called up the person I have been working with on claims and asked for an update. She stated a check has been written and just waiting on the manager to sign it. Oh good I thought, moving fairly quick should be able to watch the games next Sunday on a non-cracked TV. Immediately after I hung up, I thought wait how much is the check? And how did they come to a value without knowing the brand or model number of the TV?? Maybe they were writing a check for the cost of a repair which could be more of a known number. But TV screens usually cant be repaired, so i sent a follow up email asking the questions. And that is when I got the horrible reply. This company's idea of "fully insured" is .60 cents per pound. So in their mind, my TV that cost me $3k, is only worth $56. And I signed all the paperwork for this, so I'm out of luck. So much for being a reputable company. First called in late December to set up a moving date for end of January. Movers were scheduled to arrive between 8-9am. No one arrived, and at 9:15am, I placed one of 5 calls to the company, only to get directed to their "logistics" department where no one was there to pick up the phone. So, I was forced to call there sales department, where I heard about how wonderful there service was by there CEO, who bragged about being the mover for the Titans and the Grizzlies. I took 3 more phone calls to get someone to tell me that no one was going to show up for my move! They gladly took my $150 deposit, and promptly said FU when it came to moving me. I had to beg to get someone to show up, which they did 2 hours later. The movers were pleasant but did a nice job of scamming me out of an extra $120 by taking a 15 minute break during the move, and then finished the move 15 minutes past the top of the hour. Note that once the top of hour starts, you're charged for the full hour. A perfect screw job. Bottom line, if I hadn't called, no one would have showed up. Movers showed up 2 hours late. And screwed me out of an extra $120. Overall a BS company that could care less about you unless your a Tennessee Titan or Memphis Grizzly, as was stated clearly by there CEO. read more

Do not use Black Tie Movers in Frisco. They showed up an hour late. And I specifically requested someone to do shelf paper and unpack crystal etc. they sent heavy movers who are not capable. I asked John for this service and they ignored request and had no solution for Me. Totally screwed! Do not use them! read more

Ron and Garrett were amazing. They did such a great job. Garrett is incredibly strong for his size. He works so fast, almost runs on every trip. They are both very conscientious. I can't say enough about these two guys and Black Tie and moving. read more

I initially gave this company a five star review, but after we settled into the house I started seeing all of the damage from our move. I contacted the business and spoke several times about all of the items that were damaged, sent lists, etc... i was assured would be taken care of. Needless to say, over a year later they never paid a penny, and became completely unresponsive. I have worked with 4 to 6 different moving companies. Stuff happens when you're moving an entire house full of furniture, and I am very understanding about this, but I have never had so much damage to my belongings from a move. They also left behind boxes and items at my former residence that I was not able to recover. There is no excuse for my experience with Black Tie Moving, and I recommend you find someone else to handle your move. Accidents are going to happen, and that isn't my complaint. I do however have a problem with a business that won't take responsibility for their mistakes. read more
