Bourbon steak bites, waffle fries and green beans
Richard A.

I don't like writing reviews less than 4 stars, but I use Yelp to find good places to go and feel like I need to be honest about this place. The good: - family friendly - good variety of menu options - friendly hostess - comfortable seating - room for bigger groups - vegan and gluten free options The not-so-good: - slow (getting seated, getting food, check ins) - steak was overcooked and lower quality - green beans looks like they had been sitting out a while - ketchup for waffle fries provided in a small cup (not enough...just bring the bottle!)...and since service was slow, I couldn't ask for more. - Server waited until, literally, my last bite to ask how things were. Really? A bit late by then! - overpriced for the quality - loud ambience (see Family Friendly, above) Stated simply, I'd rather go to any of the major chain restaurants like Perkins, Applebees, TGIFs, etc. and not here. I won't be back.

Ask for Tanner! He is awesome! He served our party of 3 on a Sunday night. He made sure that we had everything we needed and also helped out with some great recommendations. Good place for food! We came in very hangry, tanner was quick to get our food in and by the end we had full bellies and smiles. The apple crisp had my taste buds flying! We will be back! Thanks again!

Mahattan Reuben Melt

My family came here for dinner before we headed out to Bentleyville. We decided to have an early dinner and got to the restaurant around 3:30 pm and were immediately seated. Décor and atmosphere are reminiscent of a Green Mill or Granite City with a little more up north and north shore flair. The menu had a lot of dishes that sound tempting but I decided to go with their award winning Manhattan Reuben Melt with Waffle Fries. My wife went with their Chicken Pot Pie. The rest of the group ordered burgers. Prices were very reasonable for the amount of food that you get. Kid's meals were also priced well at $6 with an entrée, drink, and side included. My Reuben was very good. The portion size is excellent and the side of fries was big. Their corned beef is made in house and you can tell; big meaty portions that are not sliced but in shredded chunks that melt in your mouth. The waffle fries come with a zesty dip and are very good. My wife's pot pie was a comfort food classic and spot on. The winner of her dish though was the included cornbread. Encrusted in sugar and served with whipped cinnamon butter, so good. The burgers were big and meaty and stacked high with an assortment of condiments. Service was spot on and our waitress was quick and efficient with our order and paying for our meal. We had a good time and will definitely be returning to this location when we are back in Proctor.

Mmmmm

The Black Woods restaurant is in Proctor attached to the Americinn and is friendly and busy. The had plenty of hand sanitation stations around the restaurant. The food and drinks were good. If you want the free popcorn, you just have to ask.

Pub Pretzels w/beer cheese

We were staying at a nearby hotel. It was close and they gave us a coupon so let's try it out! Our service was outstanding from start to finish. Our waiter and also the manager made us feel welcome with the full attention they gave us. There is plenty of seating as well as a separate bar area. Our table started with the Pub Pretzels as well as the Wisconsin Cheese Curds. The menu states that they are lightly seasoned but the pretzels are absurdly overly seasoned. I had to wipe off all of the salt in the first place to take a bite. Their cheese dipping sauce that accompanied also did not excite me. It's in need of a makeover with more flavor. The Cheese Curds were about on par with the pub pretzels. The cheese was cubed and it wasn't a good quality cheese. Most of the pretzels and cheese curds were left alone. I really expected better from a midwest state for this appetizer. I ordered the Blackened Fish tacos. They were stuffed with summer slaw, cilantro sour cream and cherry tomatoes. Thankfully this dish was quite tasty. The blackened fish had a great flavor combined with all of the other ingredients. A side of rice & bean casserole is served with the tacos. I would pass on this and try to get a different side. My husband ordered a burger which was way overcooked. He never sends anything back to the kitchen so he ate it anyway. It's just weird when the waiter asks if you want pink in the middle but they don't give it to you. Oh well. If you have time to head into Duluth, I would pick a restaurant there and skip this place. Aside from the service, the food is less than desirable.

Fresh, locally sourced and delicious menu options, fast and hospitable service!…read more We were worried that the wait time would be long but it was just long enough to enjoy the outdoor garden boxes and sun. Even though we are visiting Duluth during this crazy time of the wild fires, Duluth Grill made our trip worth it! They have a streamlined process for getting seated, the staff are welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu and local area. My family ordered the usual staples: biscuits and gravy, pancakes and sausage, and bacon/eggs/sausage. All were hearty portions and perfectly prepped. I tried the "Triple B" which turns out to be a Midwest version of Bibimbop. Made with manoomin (wild rice), beef/pork mix, kimchi, marinated kale- probably my fave of the dish. The combo is a deliciously perfect power meal to start any day and weekend right! I was pleasantly surprised and impressed by the care they take in procuring local ingredients- even their kale and some herbs are from their own lil garden. I highly recommend the Duluth Grill, there's something for everyone! We will definitely stop by on our next trip out to Duluth.

We had checked reviews and saw there were some reviews indicating this restaurant was not as good as it used to be. We decided to see for ourselves as the menu, other positive reviews sounded like it was an incredibly good place to go. It is. It was. It was busy, being a Sunday morning especially, but the staff was handling it all well from our perspective . I used to manage restaurants a long time ago and was impressed with the flow. Our waitress, Natalie, was delightful, knew the menu well to describe and answer questions, and we were not wanting for anything. She checked on us, always grinning and managing the iace well. I had the banana bread pancakes. A perfect choice ! They came and looked like a picture stacked up and flowing down with Carmel, maple bourbon syrup, marzcapone cream and nuts. So delicious. I took half home and enjoyed the rest later. Heated up perfectly with a 20 second zap in micro. My son had the corn beef hash skillet and said his was just as good as mine. We both agreed that we had no idea why reviews were negative, especially going on a busy morning. We will be going back every time we visit. I recommend you do too.

I said no at first because it looked like a depressed bar but what set it to a yes instead was the glorious smell that wafted from the restaurant during the afternoon before we went while they were freshly smoking their meats. So when the decision came to find a place, we said why not? We came on a Friday, which was even better, because we were able to take advantage of their Friday fish fry. I looked on Yelp to see what we should order while here and the fish fry got a lot of mentions so we decided to try that and some of their BBQ. The fish fry was worth the mention. It was AYCE but I would be surprised if you could want more after the first plate with their generous portions sizes. The fries were in-house hand cut and covered with Parmesan cheese. The fish was crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside. It was a great Up North-style fish fry. The BBQ was very good as well. I tried the pulled pork sandwich and it came on a giant bun. Once again, the portion sizes were very generous. The sandwich came with a side of homemade BBQ sauce but honestly the meat had such a good flavor I didn't even need to add any to the sandwich. I have to give them a thumbs up for making many of their items like sauces and sides in-house even though it seemed like they could get away with less quality for being a small town bar & grill. This place really hit the spot, we were looking for no frills comfort food, and that is exactly what we found at The Shack. Price point vs. portion sizes were great and the service was small town friendly and prompt. Looks can be deceiving but The Shack isn't the dumpy bar I thought it was at first and I am glad we gave this place a shot.
