Terrible pastrami, passable roast beef. - The measure of any sandwich place is determined by the quality of two deli meats: their roast beef and their pastrami. - It's a cute place. Has a hippy-vibe to it. Big chalk-drawn menu above the counter. Art on the walls for sale ($275 for a picture of a flower?). Nice tables and nicely painted walls. - But the food is.... only ok. We got a pastrami sandwich and a roast beef sandwich. We took them home. The pastrami was inedible. It was so full of gristle and fat, I was disgusted. I was so mad that I said if I was still at the place I would have demanded my money back. I threw that one out. Luckily, we had the roast beef sandwich, and surprisingly, I could actually take a bite through it and not come back with a mouth full of fat. Stopped by the Blackbird Cafe after searching the net for a good sandwich/coffee spot. We just moved back from California where excellent cafe's can be found on every corner, much like pizza joints can be found around here. We were not disappointed, my wife was thrilled with here Caprese sandwich and my turkey club was very good as well, but what we really loved was the coffee and loose Green Tea. We actually missed the place from 119 as it is in a strip mall area, but don't let that stop you, from entering you won't be disappointed. for two sandwiches, one cappuccino one green tea and a muffin we spent about $22 dollars. read more

I have visited a number of times since my first and I've been very satisfied. Therefore I increased my rating by 1 more star. I've now tried many things in the menu and find the good to be very good. SOOOoooooo yummy and unexpected! Honestly, I love the town I live in but, sometimes...I feel like all these little places just don't have high standards. Tired of the usual slow service and mediocre food, I decided to give Blackbird Cafe a try. What a delightful surprise! Certainly small but, charming and modern. The girl on staff was friendly and assured me that my food would take 5 minutes or so (I was used to another place in town with VERY slow service and I had some place to be!). I had a Mint Chocolate Mocha and (while I'm not a coffee, mocha, latte person) it was very yummy! My sandwich was AMAZING...the Northender. Put together flawlessly and also delicious! We will DEFINITELY be telling everyone we know and it will be my new "go to" for take out sandwiches! Thank you for doing the small town cafe right! read more

Super SLOW service. Do not stop in here for a quick coffee, it doesn't exist. The one counter worker was completely focused on making an espresso (or some other time consuming) drink. We come here a lot (couple in 30s) - one of the few places open on Sundays and close to home. Definitely appreciate that they have gluten free products and reasonable prices. My husband likes their coffee. The staff is mostly college age students and friendly. You can order online, which is a good idea since sometimes they get backed up. This is my regular spot. We go here at least once a week. I call it the 2/3 cafe. 2 out of three meals it's the very best local spot to be with delicious food. However I'm still playing Russian roulette because 1 out of every three meals is an absolute disaster. I hate calling and feeling like a Karen every so many weeks because there's a staple in my food, or someone dumped bagel seasoning excessively over my food, or, and this happens often, there is one chef that just... won't toast bread... usually the biggest meal ruiner is soggy wet bread..... today they forgot my pesto and I got the soggy bread bandit. I don't normally count forgotten things as an mess up.. especially on busy days.... But there was no one there today. I spent $32 on a breakfast that I'm not satisfied with and it's not worth the drive to fix it and just... bleh. On a good day, it's five stars, but you gotta get them on a good day and decide if that chance is worth it to you. read more

A favorite stop of mine when I am in Massachusetts to visit family. I really like Blackbird's coffee and sandwiches. Their soups are really good too but I think their coffee is the best. I am used to good coffee shops in Brooklyn and Blackbird's coffee is up there with the best of them. Decided to try this cafe since it was close to my apartment. First off, upon walking in the 2 two girls working the counter didn't even greet us! No, hi how are you, plus they seemed busy talking. After standing in front of them for about 2 minutes one looks up at me for my order. So, firstly the service could use a little help. Secondly the food while good was pricey. This is a very comfortable place to visit for breakfast or lunch. We had a nice lunch there with Hungarian mushroom soup and a Greek sandwich (pesto, artichoke, olive peppers etc) served on focaccia. Yummmm. Both were home made and superb. We also had green tea latte which was outstanding. It had a creamy strong green tea flavor and was not too sweet. The cappuccino was also well done. I find their coffee average and the case items mediocre. But the sandwiches both breakfast and lunch are always fresh, with the best ingredients. Wish the sandwiches came with chips or anther side, not just a sandwich on a plate. I recommend the London fog (earl grey tea latte with vanilla) . First time and probably last time I would go here. When we walked in there wasn't any seating available and it wasn't clear how to get service so we walked up to the counter and explained it was our first visit and needed instruction and the girl behind the counter gave us a menu and explained that you order at the counter and then find a seat and our food would be delivered. Well that would be good if we had a table to go to, but there was no guarantee we would have a table when our food was ready. We found a table with no seats and asked the same girl at the counter if she could find 2 seats for us and she did. The food was delivered and was ok. The home fried potatoes were cold and flavorless. The toast was crispy and covered in butter/oil, the spinach and feta omelet was ok and I'd say the same for the side of overpriced sausage. You have to clear your own plates too and there are no free refills on coffee...so in summary if you are looking for a place to eat that has ok food that may be cold and is overpriced, have to find your own seats and clear your own plates then the blackbird cafe is right up your alley. Have been there a few times for a cup of coffee and that has been good. Went there the other day with my family for lunch and that didn't go as well. A few minutes after ordering the greek salad we were informed that they were out of feta cheese. Pretty major component of a greek salad. They substituted some parmesan cheese and put that on top of some other less than exciting ingredients. Also ordered a couple of paninis. They were served alone on a large dinner plate without any garnish or side at all. :Looked a bit stark. One was in a grilled ciabatta, the other looked like grilled white bread.
