Late night dinner with the wife at Blackfins Riverfront Grill. It just started raining and some of the outer tables were getting wet so we took refuge at the center bar and met with the bartender who provided two of his favorite meals and we took his advice. As we waited under ten minutes for our meal, the wife was in awe of the choo choo train the circled the bar above our heads, a cool addition that goes a long way. Grilled Shrimp Skewers and NY Strip French Dip. OMG the shrimp were awesome with the crispy carrot wedges were a nice side. Drenched my NY Strip hoagie into the french dip since I love it soggy and it was perfectly flavored. The french fries were plentiful and seasoned well but not as crispy as I would like. The restaurant sits on the river but since it was late there was no view, but we were able to hear the live rock n' roll music coming from the stage at the Sandbar. The clean gender assigned bathroom was gorgeous with green ocean themed epoxy flooring, lizard skin walls and bamboo partitions. It was a WOW effect upon entry. read more

What a disappointment. For years before I moved to this area Blackfins was one of my favorite for breakfast and dinner. We moved to Melbourne Beach in Jan 2025 and still everything was good. Some changes in dishes we determined were just food costs cuts. This year my son and his family came and we had an early dinner. My 3 yr old granddaughter was excited to go to the shop that was usually by the hostess stand. It was relocated but now had nothing for children. The service was slow but we thought maybe it was busy since it was tourist season. The food was just fair. Last night was my birthday and of all the restaurants in town I chose Blackfins. What a mistake. Walking in was dangerously slick since they had flooding from earlier rain. We were sat in a small booth by the window. We had to walk out of the way since a dog that was a size of a horse was sprawled out on the floor. Our table was absolutely disgusting! It was dirty and sticky and the coasting of shellac had apparently gotten melted and was sticky and black. Even the seat was dirty and I ended up whipping away pieces of paper on my seat with my hands. Everything including my arms stuck to the table. It took awhile for a very young person with zero personality come to take our order. We gave him a drink and appetizer order. I was attempting to forget about how disgusting the table and the large dog was with the view. The drink that didn't have enough ice although I requested a tall glass with lots of ice arrived with the appetizer. It was good despite being served with greasy fried saltines. When I attempted to start eating a very large Woodstork was fishing on the rocks when the people with the large dog started throwing crackers at it..despite signs everywhere not to feed the birds. It then came up to the window and came too close for me to eat since it was eyeing our food. My husband sat still, told me to do so as well and was holding a knife should it attack. After 15 minutes it finally went away. Now our food was cold. We complained to the waiter but all he could offer was, "Thank you for telling me." No offer to relocate. Our main meals came. Both of our fish were way overcooked. Mine was dry and not edible. My husband's was dry but he didn't complain since my birthday dinner was basically ruined anyway. Forget the dessert I just wanted out of that dirty sticky area. So sad! I will have to find somewhere else to take me and my family. read more

After hours of partying at the sandbar we went to the main restaurant for dinner and the bartender was great and ordered the French dip sandwich and garlic shrimp and the shrimp was better than good. Fun time with conversation from another customer at the bar. The place is right on the river but it was dark outside so no view. Liked this place so much I came back for the breakfast buffet and the river was beautiful as the sun came up. Very good prices for food and great staff. read more

The location alone makes it worth the visit, situated right on the Indian River Lagoon, the views are stunning and the fact that you can pull up by boat makes it even more special. The menu stands out with its original and unique offerings. Everything we tried was delicious, even though we stuck to appetizers this time. It's clear a lot of thought goes into both the flavors and presentation. What really made the experience exceptional, though, was the service. The staff was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and happy to offer great recommendations. On top of that, the service was impressively fast, we barely had to wait for our food. Whether you're arriving by land or water, this spot is definitely worth checking out. We'll absolutely be back! read more

After sitting down, looking over the menu, we could not find them on the menu we asked the waitress she tells us they haven't had them for a while either of them very disappointed so we stood there and had dinner .We had their fried shrimp. it was OK, but it was not what we went there for,somebody needs to update their website. Came to Blackfins at Capt Hiram's for lunch on a Saturday and had a fantastic experience! We were seated outside, which was perfect since we had our dogs with us. It's great that they allow dogs on the deck, and they even brought water for our pups! I ordered the swordfish sandwich special ($23) and got it blackened - absolutely delicious! My boyfriend had the prime rib dip sandwich ($16), and he loved it too. It was super filling and tasty. Our waiter was amazing - so friendly which made the experience even better. The vibe here is really laid-back and welcoming, and the view of the water and dock was beautiful. Definitely recommend this spot if you're in the area! After a fun day on the boat, we docked at Capt Hiram's and went in for lunch. The view is breathtaking! We chose to dine at BlackFin (a bit more upscale restaurant vs their more casual one, being there are two at this resort) We sat next to the water by open windows and listened to the waves and birds all around while basking in the sun and feeling the airs breeze. We had cold beer to start and an order of their perfectly battered and fried Calamari. The kind with rings and tentacles (my favorite) and a side of cocktail sauce. Wonderful! Next came the fish and chips. Hot and fresh! The batter was on the light and airy side and not too dense. The fries could have been crispier, but seasoned beautifully with skin on. Very yummy! The Cuban was just ok. Nothing to rave about but enjoyable with PERFECT onion rings. The grouper sandwich was great! Lots of flavor on the blanked fish with all the right veg. The Cobb salad was outstanding! Loaded with bacon bits, blue cheese and perfectly blackened chicken (dressing was ordered on the side) Service was very kind and attentive. Capt Hirams is a unique and beloved spot for those who are out on the boat and need a good meal, those who are vacationing and want a beautiful atmosphere or the locals. I guess we had higher expectations for this holiday meal. We had reservations for 4:30 and they were already out of brussel sprouts. We had a 20% off coupon so we thought we would try dinner since our drinks the other night worked out well. I can't remember the name of my drink, but it was very orangey and refreshing. The menu is geared more toward seafood, which is what I would expect based on the area. I am not a seafood fan, but knew I could find something. I started off with the Maryland Crab Soup, which arrived hot. Yay! The flavor was good, but I don't think there was any crab in it. My entree was a grilled chicken sandwich with fries. The place is very pretty we loved the view of the water. The waitress was very sweet and fast with our drinks. Food took a little longer and I was extremely disappointed with my Eggs Benedict that were boiled not poached. The yoke was fully cooked on both pieces. Atmosphere - Good. But then I like tiki type restaurants with water views. Everything is very rustic. The bar and seating is outside dining. Service - very good. This is where the restaurant shined for me. Our server (Pam) was very pleasant and attentive. Food - Sub Par. We were there for breakfast. I ordered an omelette with American cheese, peppers and onions. It came with potatoes too that they called home fries (which were cubed potatoes that were extremely salty) and an English muffin. The omelette spent far too long on the grill and it was incredibly thin and dry. It was the reverse for the English muffin, which had to have spent only seconds in the toaster. Overall Value - poor. To be honest, if the same omelette was offered at half the price, I would still find another place to eat. read more

We were seated quickly. We didn't have any issue parking. The staff was nice. Our server Sparkles was great. She refilled out drinks, she let us know when food was coming, and she checked in to see if we needed anything. She was on top of everything. The food.... Clam chowder was good, there was clam in there you could actually see $8 Calamari was good, the person who ordered it enjoyed it $14 Tacos $2 additional cost for mahi. The chunk of fish was a nice size for the taco instead of small pieces. It was dry but malt vinegar helped. I don't remember the price, $14-?16? The rice and beans were terrible. They were not eaten, the rice tasted like it had been heated up several times. The lime was dry and wouldn't squeeze any juice out. Kids tenders and fries were good, as expected. It came with a generous portion of fries and hit the spot for a satisfying waterfront meal. The staff was friendly, the service was prompt, and the whole place has that laid-back, beachy vibe that makes you want to linger a bit longer. That said, there's a word to the wise--watch where you sit. We opted for an outside table to enjoy the view and breeze, but when a torrential downpour suddenly hit, chaos followed. Many tables were completely exposed, and guests got soaked scrambling for cover. While parts of the outdoor area have awnings or umbrellas, they don't offer full protection for their tables or occupants from a strong Florida rainstorm. If the skies look even slightly questionable, pick your spot with care--or be ready to move tables quickly. Despite the weather hiccup, I'd definitely go back for the food and the fun atmosphere. I enjoyed the hot peel and eat shrimp with drawn butter and also had the voodoo bucket. It didn't taste super strong, but it was very enjoyable. My friend got the painkiller level 3 and it definitely tasted strong - very yummy too. Grouper was a little fishy, but I wouldn't say this is a place you come to for *the* food. I have to go with 5 stars on this one! We really enjoyed everything about Blackfins at Captain Hiram's Resort in Sebastian. My wife and I were spending our last week in Florida and decided to drive up to Sebastian to do some shopping and maybe stop at Pareidolia (my favorite brewery) for a beer. We decided to try Captain Hiram's for lunch. We were there 5 or so years ago on a windy blustery January day. We still enjoyed Blackfins but the weather certainly wasn't cooperative. This time the weather was gorgeous and the wind shades were up. The view of the Indian River was amazing. The hostess sat us at a table one row off of the water. We had an unobstructed view of the water. The waitress came quickly and was very nice. An important note here - I'm a big guy and I always stress about whether I'm going to be comfortable. The booth was very roomy and comfortable for this 3XL guy - so fellow big guys and gals you are welcome here. I also can't drink anymore because of meds I'm on. Hiram's has an N.A. option - Heineken Zero which was served cold with an ice cold pint glass. My wife had the crab cake sandwich. She loved it. I had a salad with grilled blackened shrimp on top. The salad was thoughtfully put together, the vanilla vinaigrette dressing was very tasty and the shrimp was perfectly cooked. I had onion rings as well - they weren't the best I've ever had but were still pretty good. We shared dessert - a peanut butter pie. Very good. We walked through the Sand Bar on our way out. Definitely expanded since the last time we were there - looks like an awesome place for having a few drinks and catching live music. People looked like they were having a blast. We sat on the water with a nice view of the river and the docked sport fishing boats. The plastic see thru curtains were closed but appear as if they'd been open if the weather was better. I had the fish sandwich w onion rings as an up charge. The sandwich was great (onion rings not so much) with a yummy soft bun and nice sauces. Janie had the fish tacos that she loved! I have had better meals at Sizzler back in the day which is what their steak reminded me of. My wife's steak was charred and without flavor. My grouper was over cooked to the consistency of mashed potatoes. The crab cakes had so much filler in them it was difficult to discern if there was any crab meat in them at all. The dining room had a bar like atmosphere with the table next to us swearing loudly and often. The high point was our service. Our waitress was very attentive and polite. Very disappointing meal especially when spending over $60/ person! The restaurant was mostly empty at prime time on a Saturday night in season, it would appear that most of the locals have figured out there are better options in Sebastian for quality dining. read more

The food was very mediocre. We had calamari that was chewy and over fried. I had a "trio" dish with grouper, shrimp, and scallops. The grouper was a decent sized piece and it tasted fine, not amazing but not bad. I got two small scallops with absolutely no flavor. There were three small shrimp, tough and overcooked. My wife got the ribeye, it was okay too but very thin, way too thin to cook medium rare, the way she ordered it. It was close to well done. The service was fine. I gave 3 stars because up until yesterday I have always had a great experience. We live close by so we spend a lot of money here (and we tip very well). We brought some guests from up north out and the blonde dreadlocks Emilie? could not have been ruder. Snarling at us because we asked to place an order after waiting for 15 minutes and she was too busy talking. People's appetizers and raw bar came quick but the hot food was on back order. Waitress came after a half hour and said your ticket is up next. She said kitchen is busy but it seemed it was moving quick for everyone else around us. When a manager came over on exit he had absolutely nothing to say. Ate there for my husband's birthday and stayed at the resort. The server told us from the beginning that the kitchen was backed up. I do appreciate the heads up but she was not attentive throughout otherwise. If the kitchen is backed up at least keep checking on us for drinks. The service was poor and the Mahi entree I ordered was disgusting. It was cold by the time it got to me and had clearly sat under a heat lamp for too long somewhere along the way because it was very dried out. I do not recall a manager coming by to check on things. This is the first eating here. We got a table by the water which was nice. There are a lot of ceiling fans because you are basically eating on a deck with a covering. There was a nice breeze today for lunch. The server was great! The wife had the grouper tacos special and I had the Mahi tacos. Mine was grilled hers was fried. They were both good. We had the smoked fish dip for an appetizer and it tasted good. The menu did describe what comes with the smoked fish dip I just normally see chopped tomatoes and onions.
