I desperately needed a section of ceiling to be retextured after a long crack was caulked by another contractor who did not have the expertise to do the work. I hired Oroville ... Blackhawk Drywall because he used to be a neighbor of mine and I just thought .....well maybe he'll do a good job for me because he was my old neighbor! I soon discovered that everything he told me he could do he couldn't do. He gave me an estimate for repairing a ceiling, doing some sheet rock and painting. As he started my project he kept telling me that he wasn't sure if he knew what he was doing with the ceiling and my walls. He said everything was uneven and it wasn't going to look good. He also kept saying he wish she would have never taken this job. He said my house sucks to my face ....and that's it's a nightmare. When I questioned his work, he said it's the walls not my work and I questioned his workers work and the mess he was leaving was disgusting piles of garbage everywhere! He sent other guys who spoke no English to do work and things started to turn up missing. Originally when I hired him he said he would always be there to oversee the work and every time I went there he wasn't there and I had given him a key so I had smoke detectors missing I had paint missing paint brushes missing I really couldn't believe it and I had asked him not to let anybody in there but him, but he kept letting different people in! I had to have some other framing company come and repair the work he did!!! I had to pay twice. I was already into Oroville for a lot of money. When Orville's guys saw the new guys in there, they started treating me like crap and throwing things around while loading up their truck, and just being extremely destructive and rude and left a lot of garbage behind ! That's when I knew I had enough and I decided I needed to fire him. He he said he wouldn't leave unless I paid him the balance, which I didn't think was fair because I already had to pay to have his work repaired so I let him keep the money that I already gave him obviously, and asked him to not come back and not show his face yet he kept coming back walking in when I wasn't home and taking photos and I had to call the police who told me that I could have pressed charges for trespassing !!!! I did not press charges but I will if he shows up again. I guess thinking that he would do a good job because we were neighbors 20 years ago was not a good idea. I immediately turned to yelp to find a drywall guy. I called Blackhawk first, and even though it was a Saturday, Orville called me right back (within an hour of leaving him a message) and scheduled a time for the following Wednesday. Orville was right on time and even called ahead of time to let me know he was on his way. He had the patch in place, and the texture sprayed within a matter of an hour or two. The texture was matched perfectly, and that was my biggest area of concern. I haven't had the chance to paint yet, because the patch is still in the process of drying. We are very happy with Orville's work. He took on a tricky job, filling in old lighting recesses in our kitchen ceiling, surrounding a skylight. The drywall pieces had to be cut exactly with openings to match the new LED cans. Orville committed to our schedule several weeks in advance. He arrived as promised. I very highly recommend Blackhawk Drywall. Orville came out promptly to make an estimate of the cost needed to replace sheet rock in my dining room ceiling damaged by a roof leak. He made a competitively priced bid and showed up to do the work exactly when he said he would. Orville does very good work and he has pleasant personality. I mentioned to him that I was concerned about getting drywall dust throughout the house. Orville used plastic sheeting to completely enclose the dining room. He does very neat work. Don't hire a painter to do your drywall project. Don't hire a general contractor to do your drywall project. It is a specialized job, so hire a specialized guy. Orville at Blackhawk drywall is that guy. Our job was to replace the existing 1973 wormwood paneling in our family room walls and (beamed) ceiling and replace with drywall. Not an easy job at all. I had already called 4 other GC's and drywall outfits when my husband said, "Why don't you call Blackhawk?" so i did. Orville came out to spec the project a couple days after we first talked (this was in late May) and then he called me later that same evening and gave me a verbal quote that was very very reasonable. He is able to keep his rates reasonable because he does ALL the work himself. I hired him right there over the phone. As an attorney, I always get everything in writing and with a detailed description, but something about Orville just told me that a verbal handshake deal was going to be ok. So, I trusted my instincts which turned out great. We agreed on a start date of 7/5 for a 4 day job. Orville showed up on time and stayed on time and on budget for the entire job. True to his word, he was done by 3:30 on the 4th day. As far as the quality of his work: it is outstanding. He really sweats the details (my husband is a details guy, so this really matters in our house), and we were both extremely happy with the quality of Orville's work. He was also very respectful of our home: always trying to keep the mess to a minimum and being all around conscientious. He also referred us to a great Painter, Ron, who is piggy backing on Orville's drywall job and will arrive tomorrow morning to paint. The 2 of them have been communicating and coordinating along the way, which really has saved us a headache so that we can streamline this messy project and minimize disruption to our family life. All tolled, the drywall installation and paint will end up being a 9 day job that didn't break the bank. We would definitely call Orville in the future for any drywall needs. I had a challenging drywall job (needed to fix some cracks on a 20ft high ceiling) and several of the drywall companies I called before contacting Blackhawk said the job was too difficult. Not Orville! He gave a very reasonable bid, came on time, and tackled the job with skill (he was on a 16 foot ladder!), patience, and integrity.
