So I drive by here daily and always think, Scott, that place looks awesome!" We played on Saturday 4/13/13; I arrived at 11 for a 12 t-time and was infomred they did not have any range balls available. So I asked for my cart and I would just put or chip; no carts until 10 minutes prior to t-time. So Beer thirty, they do have Ziegen on draft which is a double bonus in my book. The cafe is an old Fema trailor from Nawlins with astro turf carpet. Golf pro was nice but the Cafe staff seemed a bit rushed, but hey it s golf course so who cares. This course was really dry, sand traps were concrete and the areas leading up to the greens were not in great shape. I should have prefaced this review witht the fact that I rate my golf game off how many balls I lose so take it for what it is. None of the the above mentioed would bugg me if we didnt pay almost 50 bucks plus beer and food to play. read more

This review is based on several different experiences. Also it should be noted that I am not a serious golfer, I do it to hang out with friends and co-workers. TLDR: Call them before you go to make sure their range / computers are working. If they are not, skip. So I went to play here with 4 other guys. Critical problem #1: their computer system was down. I later found out it had been down for 4 days. Their solution was writing down peoples credit card numbers. Pretty sure that is not PCI compliant. Minor problem #1: the range was unavailable or there were no balls or you had to pay extra. Was foggy on the reasons but it seem to me that if you show up to play you should be able to warm up. The course itself is not badly designed, at least for someone at my skill level / experience. However some of the more experienced players were noting that the course was in rougher shape Critical problem #2: We were getting rushed by the range martial. Golf is not a speed based activity. I crossfit on the weekdays for that. Also I stopped taking flack from people like this when I left elementary school PE. If the range martial had a problem, he can find a way to solve it that does not interfere with us having a good time and moving at the pace that feels good to us. Furthermore timing problems between the groups was largely caused by their computer issues. I resisted saying anything and kept my blood pressure below my weekday average. Just a note on upkeep. Their parking lot could use a repave or at least having the lines repainted. Since I live in the vicinity, their practice range is my easiest option. Despite being the most expensive place to actually practice ($12 for 100 balls). However I have learned to NEVER!.... NEVER! just go without calling first. 50% of the time I do this the range is randomly closed for some reason. I heard a rumor that this place has new management so maybe things will get better. But I will not go back until I start hearing good things. read more

I'm not the best golfer - it's been a few years. Pro-shop guy was very welcoming and encouraging. $30 monthly membership is the best rate of any course in the Hutto area (at least that I found) and covered unlimited range balls, cheap 18-holes when I feel brave enough w/ cart, and a couple of clinics a week! First day I went, I'll just say this - they did a lot to show me they care about my business. The course is beautiful and very wide open (my slice needs that). A win in my book is finding more golf balls than I lose - so I definitely scored! This is not a 5 star course, but it is a 5 star experience considering what you pay. If you are looking for the Masters at Augusta, or even Avery Ranch, you're unreasonable and probably don't belong here. I'd take this experience over Avery or over Star Ranch, any day. Played this course on vacation. The fairways were dry as a bone for lack of water and all but two water hazards were drained. Sand traps were like hard pan. The greens were decent and had a great roll, and they were about the only place that was green on the entire course. I doubt i would play the course again without checking it out beforehand. This golf course is ok for the money. I got a deal from Golfnow.com, and paid $18 per person at 1pm. Even full price at Blackhawk is not much more than that. A lot of these reviews are bashing the condition the course is in. I agree. The greens are in good shape, and the rest of the course is pretty dry and not maintained very well. Then again, what do you want for $18? Pebble Beach? You pay for what you get. If you dont like it here, then go to a country club, and pay country club green fees. 1) 25 bucks after 12 so this is a pretty good deal 2) The greens were very good, after new MGMT came in, you can tell they put most of the budget here. 3) The range is just fine, 5 bucks for a bucket. Again, worth it. 4) Here is the best thing about this course. The traffic, you never have to wait and can easily finish in 4 hours with a four some. Again, this is not a Barton Creek course or anything like that. This is a value course where you practice your new grip, or fix your swing. I played this golf course during an Austin Golf Association golf tournament. Our director told us he spoke to the course beforehand and informed us the course was in great shape. I would love to see this course in BAD shape. Our course fees were 45 dollars for the round and cart. The greens themselves were actually in pretty decent shape, but thats where it ends. The rough was non existant, and was mainly rocks and dirt in most places. As for the fairways, there were patches of blight were you were essentially hitting off cracked and scored earth - this was common across the whole course. Furthermore, the layout was a bit ridiculous. For example, on one hole (6??) you're better off hitting directly into the fairway next to you where people are driving up - this is because there is water across 70% of the fairway and the slope will direct your ball directly into it as it is sitting at around 250 yards out - right in the landing area. I guess I should have played the course beforehand. As for the bunkers, it was like hitting off concrete (IF you were lucky enough to have sand). I do NOT recommend this course mainly because of the conditions. If they could get it into decent shape, it would be a difficult test, but I refuse to play hitting off dirt half the time. read more

Very disappointed at this course, on Friday May 1,2020 while attempting to play a round of golf at Blackhawk. I was told my 14 year son couldn't remain at the course if he wasn't playing. Because this was my son first time out of the house in nearly two months due to COVID-19, I offered to pay for him to play to be allowed to remain on the course. After being told twice NO by ( Nick) I called my wife to have him picked up. During my time on the course throughout the day I noticed several groups that just had people riding and not playing, mainly guys bringing their wife's or girlfriends alone for the ride typically at ALL golf courses. The groups I personally verified was for tee times before and AFTER my starting time. I was very apparent this was only asked of black visitors and not white, it really saddened me that in the year 2020 we are still faced with the same issues my great grandparents had to deal in 1940. When bringing this issue up to (Nick ) at the turn, his only response was " Will I can't watch everything ". For the remainder of the day, I stayed on the course to witness if they would be asked to leave, I never seen anyone asked to leave that was just a ride alone. Before you decide to play this course you may consider playing better courses where you are also excepted and welcomed. read more

I came to play at Blackhawk Golf Club when I was on vacation. This is a challenging course that is well-maintained. The staff was incredibly friendly and the clubhouse was clean. Food from the snack bar came with the price of a round of golf. The food was delicious! When I come back to Texas, I will definitely be golfing here again! read more

Well, I played good o'l Blackhawk again today, and some things have changed for the better, but others haven't. It was about 102 degrees today with the humidity rivaling the temperature. I'm a single today, along with my handicap, and when I'm alone, I tend to really cruise through the course, that is until I run into a foursome of 70 somethings. I just don't understand why these people refuse to allow you to play through. All of the Marshalls out there are absolutely useless. They're not about to engage in any kind of conflict, and are more interested in hunting golf balls. In other words, the inmates are running the asylum. You also have to deal with the younger crowd. You know, the loud obnoxious, aggressive, phone in one hand, club in the other crowd. They're always a lot of fun too. The course itself is in decent shape all things considered, but most of the fairways are still void of grass where you'd typically be rewarded on other golf courses. In other words..."the middle of the fairway." I'm tempted to make a video for You tube if this course doesn't start getting their act together. Also, I have yet to see any sand in any of the bunkers, but there's plenty of small rocks and pebbles. If I end up in the bunker, I'll just take a penalty stroke and call it an unplayable lie. How difficult would it be to fill in all those holes and ruts that run parallel to the cart path? I'm sure two guys with a small pickup truck full of dirt could knock that problem out in just one day. I've been told that the course has been bought and sold again recently, so I try to be understanding, but come on guys! I've noticed they've acquired some new folks at the front counter. Overall, they're an improvement. However, there was one young man who left a few months ago, I was told he got a position in Colorado. He was a true gentleman, and a professional. He'll be missed. The new guys seem to be courteous, and that's probably what brings me back. They do run some pretty good email specials, but sometimes by the time they end up emailing them, they've already expired. I also get a little annoyed when the guys behind the counter don't familiarize themselves with the current rates, and or specials that are being run. One last thing. I think they would do themselves and their customers a great service if they would email everybody in advance when they decide to have a golf tournament. Other than all the negative stuff I've mentioned, the course isn't that bad. However, they do need to start managing the pace of play if they want to prosper. read more

Booked a tee time through a booking site. There was a tournament going on that made tee times run 40 minutes late, causing me to only be able to play 16 holes. The GM, Jeremy, was combative and told me it was my fault for not calling the course to make sure there wasn't a tournament going on - unbelievably condescending. Greens were in good shape. The rest of the course is like a goat ranch - bare spots in the fairways. DO NOT pay for range balls. They are the worst conglomerate of 20 year old range balls and water-logged used balls pulled out of the few lakes that actually have water in them that I have ever seen. About 1/3 of the balls had CHUNKS missing. By the condition of the course, I would say they are having cash flow issues. By the attitude of the staff, I can see why. Skip this one! read more

Great course for beginners tons of slow play marshalls don't do anything about it. Fees are a little steep for such a un kept course when it rains the course does not drain at well. You have to copy a email and have wit you to get the good rate. The mashall do not enforce slow play. I am not a good player but i can keep pace at 4 hrs or less. They seem not to care letting groups hit more than 2 ball for each person I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COURSE AT ALL read more

We were told that the greens were "in great shape" and the first tee marshall was correct - the greens are in great shape. However, the rest of the course is in absolute shambles. We joked that the fairways looked like Eastern Europe after WWII. The lack of enforcement of pace meant that within 2 holes we were held up for the remainder of the front 9. Even after taking a break at the turn to give some space between our twosome and the threesome in front of us, we caught them in 1 hole's worth of play. This course is definitely not worth the steep fees (even if you get the discount on golfnow.com). There are plenty of other courses to play that are much more in line with their fees. read more

Don't even think about bringing some water on to the course. Their rules prohibit ANY outside drinks including water. In a year there can be 60 days over 100 degrees in Austin and they have to milk the customer for every penny possible. Sure some customers may understand these types of rules but when your a father trying to introduce 13 and 10 year olds to the game the green fees are expensive enough without forcing your customers to buy $3 bottles of water from your grill. That's BAD BUSINESS IMO and no wonder golf is on the decline. read more

For the $, it's great. Hubby and I are both average (15 hdcp or so) golfers and some of the holes are challenging. Conditions seem to improve every time we play. Bunkers seem a little thin with some tiny stones instead of sand. Greens were actually quite good and roll true. Even with the weather of late, the fairways were green and playable down. Staff is friendly and helpful. I can see efforts being made to improve this course. It's close to home. It's a golf course - not a country club. read more

Hate to give Blackhawk a 2 star because it could be such a nice course however, it would be unfair to readers to rate this course any higher until they improve the course conditions. I must say that the staff we encountered last Saturday was VERY friendly, in fact the marshal gave our late-arrival fourth player a ride out to the second hole. We were disappointed to hear there would be no beer cart, very odd for a Saturday, but if they aren't filling their tee times they probably can't justify it. The real story, a sad one, is the course condition. It appears they have some serious drainage problems because there were lots of marshy areas, mud damaged areas, and other places where the topsoil has just washed away entirely. Most bunkers had pools of water in them which is strange because there had not been any meaningful rain in recent days. Grass coverage on the fairways is inconsistent at best, with lots of St. Augustine invading the fairway turf. Maybe (not really) that's ok in the rough but not on fairways. Still, that's better than the cracked and bare dirt areas. Greens and tee boxes are in fair condition, a little scruffy but playable. Most of the rest of the course is a goat track. Blackhawk needs a greenskeeper with two green thumbs and really just more investment in course and facilities. That will raise the price eventually but until the course improves it's not really worth playing. I hope Blackhawk turns it around and improves the course but I'd guess they are in the catch-22 of not enough revenue to improve the course enough to boost revenue. If you see a cheap rate on Golf Now go play but temper your expectations of the course conditions. read more

This course has made improvement. Staff is friendly and i do not know what in their hot dogs but i love them. Very affordable and now their golf carts have gps on them for those without rangefinders. Good rate of play. Greens are fairly decent but getting better. I like the course and with them making improvement this will become at a really good course to play at. Sand traps do need help and water hazard sometimes are really low but it is Texas heat. read more
