Our server, Stacy, let us know right away they were out of ribs and pulled pork which was understandable since we arrived after 7 pm on a Monday evening. After perusing the menu, we decided on the brisket sandwich, sweet potato fries and coleslaw, and a meat platter with brisket and their smoked sausage which comes with two sides. We also got the spicy nips as an appetizer (sliced jalapeño peppers battered and fried to a golden brown). All the food was delicious and expertly prepared. The batter on the nips was unique and crispy and I tried to figure out what they used, but I couldn't quite make it out. They were really good and super spicy, we loved it! The meats were fresh and obviously of good quality. The brisket was perfectly smoked and had a nice rub on it and the barbecue sauce was delicious as well. The sausage they use was also very good, smokey and lean. It reminded me of a sausage I had when I was a kid, visiting my grandparents in the south. Everything we had was outstanding. So much so that we came back the next night for their brisket tacos which are served on, you guessed it, Taco Tuesday. We got there early the second day so as not to miss out on the ribs. The Saint Louis style ribs, had a nice rub and were perfectly smoked. They were served with just enough sauce so you could leave them as is or add more if you prefer more sauce. The meat was fall-off-the -bone tender, but still with enough bite to chew. The service was great too. Stacy was very helpful and friendly and we enjoyed talking with her. We also met another customer who came back the next night and said he goes there most nights for dinner. We certainly would come back frequently if we lived in the area.

I have eaten at Blacksheep BBQ many, many times. The people are friendly and the service is quick. I love their pork the best but I have had all of their meats and they all are delicious. Their coleslaw is the best in the area. My boyfriend loves their potato salad. There are lots of BBQ restaurants around but Blacksheep is my first choice for a great lunch or dinner. read more

We started a bar order with two of their signature cocktails: the Grand Old Fashioned (The General) and the Jennings Cove Whiskey Sour. Both were excellent, and the Old Fashioned in particular was a terrific way to start the meal. Then came a series of appetizers that made it difficult not to over-order. Our server, Jennifer, recommended the Bacon Wrapped Dates, stuffed with goat cheese and finished with balsamic glaze; listed as a house favorite for good reason. We also split the Signature Wedge Salad with their housemade blue cheese dressing and had a cup of their classic French Onion Soup. The wedge was cold, crisp and loaded with bacon, tomato and blue cheese, while the French onion was rich and exactly what you want French onion soup to be. Freshly toasted house-made croutons sealed the deal. For dinner, we shared the Pan-Seared Sea Bass, served with a citrus-olive-caper sauce. It was absolutely superb--beautifully prepared, succulent and one of the better pieces of fish we've had in quite a while. By that point, Whispering Woods had firmly moved from "good local restaurant" into destination restaurant territory for us. Having traveled all over the US and experienced some of the nicest restaurants and haute cuisines, Whispering Woods ranks pretty high being tucked away in the hills surrounding Norfork Lake. Chef Zach's attention to detail with his Denver-originating culinary influence makes this restaurant very unique for North Central Arkansas. Apparently lunch is no slouch either. Before the dinner menu started, I watched a couple at the table across from us receive the Chicken BLT Sandwich. The thing was towering--grilled chicken, bacon, provolone, lettuce, tomato and avocado on what looked like a serious sandwich. I actually made a mental note that we need to come back for lunch just to try it. What impressed me most is that Whispering Woods feels like the kind of place you hope to discover in the Ozarks: independent, full of history and character, but with a kitchen that is clearly taking the food seriously. This isn't simply a convenient restaurant near Norfork Lake. It's a place worth making the trip for. The restaurant's front wall filled with local awards reminds you they deliver on their promises. We'll absolutely be back. Five stars without hesitation.
