The ambiance is dark, . I for one like to see what I am eating, looking around I couldn't find my silverware and I had to ask for it I was granted a knife spoon and a fork a little while later . The food was ok, and the salad was delicious the wait staff seemed very interested in the female clientele sitting next to us . Maybe that's why my flatware was misplaced. Overall a nice place to eat a little pricy. For me.. but those eating next to me they received excellent service. As far as star rating it wasn't a 5 or 4 star rating definitely higher than Kentucky fried chicken. rating, however after eating . I got the bill I definitely won't be coming back. I think the gratuity is a reflection of service. Nice looking restaurant however this is not los angles or Vegas . Pay attention to your customers. Next time thanks Shawn

What can we say!? Absolutely delicious Prime Rib for dinner this evening. Not only perfectly prepared Prime Rib...but the Cesar salads were perfect with freshly prepared croutons. Yummmm Our server Tiffany was very professional and pleasant...as well as Brandon, the General Manager who visited our table to see how our dinner was. We appreciate a wonderful evening out and will definitely come back. The new owner was very friendly and she's apparently doing a great job. My husband is a retired Chef and we may expect better standards and they certainly didn't let us down! Beautiful ambiance...if you're looking for a nice evening out...check them out!

This was our first visit to this new Blacksteer. We had a great time, rocking busy on a Friday night but I had just stepped off a plane and was rather hangry. YELP Short Answer: Yes visit, excellent location, parking, space, menu, vibe, and staff but just falling short in a few places. Location: Excellent, located in large retail center, tons of parking. Buildout: Really well done taking element of past restaurant and making it their own. Nothing fancy but comfortable and fun. Menu: Amazing steakhouse type choices all well explained. Food Prep: Very nice indeed, the prep and plating looked professional and all done with purpose, meaning chef or cooks take pride in what they are sending out. Food Quality: Well, not sure but on this night the food had no taste, no I did not have Covid, but fried chicken special tasted like zero spices in coating yet chicken interior was cooked perfect, the sprinkled a little salt on the finished pieces but that does not make for good chicken as it is all about the batter coating. Total lack to spices and maybe by design, but if someone was looking out for their sodium intake, they would have ordered a salad. Chili was ok, just ok. I maybe order fried chicken once a year so disappointed, ate one piece of the four and left the rest. Maybe their batter secret recipe got screwed up that night and I totally would have sent it back but... Waitstaff: First off a friend who works there part-time is a pro and most of the staff seems to be professional and busy running around trying to get out of there to enjoy their Friday night. Our waiter however was a dud, 15 minutes to take our order after we got menus, food was sitting cooked for 10 minutes, never checked in, then at least 10 minutes to get our bill. Went from Hangry to angry and so avoidable. We watched our friend (R) being super-server to his tables while we were like WTF is up with our guy. Libations: Looked great but we did not order drinks, but bar area looked like fun. Value: Overall a great value but you will need to find what is cooked to your liking. Owner or GM, I believe, was hands on and it was apparent she did care about their brand but thanked us for coming in, did not ask how it was but it was late so I understand. Hope to return but maybe pass on the Fried Chicken Special and our WTF waiters guys station.

I'd avoided this place somewhat because the menu looks non-traditional and a bit scary. If you feel that way, get past it. The things at the very top are effectively amuses bouches, not even starters. Then below that you have shared starters (pork collar lettuce wraps amazing!) , then salad/soup if you want (the gazpacho was simply amazing and Steve's description made it even better). The bread, oh my god, the bread. Some Spanish or Portguese flat fried round bread with tallow on it -- you don't need the butter, trust me. In fact, perversely, that was the only issue with the meal. We ate too much bread. Next time, I'd eat half a roll each and bring the rest home. The steaks were simply superb, the crust amazing, the cooking temperatures perfect. I used both Steve and ChatGPT to help me pick mine (the Eye of Rib). The hangar, the bavette, and even the filet (not my fav) were all great as well. But I liked my pick the best. No room for dessert, none whatsoever, but they gave us a free madeline which was yummy as well. A++, best restaurant in Bend, can't believe how long it too me to come here. Don't fear the menu, it's not that complicated and the server will make it easy when they explain it to you.

We had 45 mins to enjoy a quick happy hour, and we ordered a half dozen oysters, the ceviche, and a strawberry margarita. The food was decent but not as good as the price point reflects. I ordered the steak pasta which had good cuts of meat but was overall underwhelming. If you're going to spend $35 at a minimum, the food should blow you away. The ambiance is my main complaint and I honestly have no idea how to fix this but I could not hear my partner from across the table. The restaurant was so loud that we spent most of our meal either not talking, or asking what the other had said after trying to talk. Thankfully, they let you add your name to the waitlist so you can explore downtown Bend while you wait, which worked out perfectly since it's surrounded by cute shops and walkable streets. We came here to celebrate our two year anniversary, and it was the perfect date night spot. The atmosphere was warm, dark, and romantic with a rustic Western inspired feel that felt not overdone but fit Bend perfectly! For dinner, we ordered the scallops with the squid ink pasta. The scallops were perfectly tender, and while the pasta was a little on the greasy side, it was still packed with flavor. We also had a salad and the beef carpaccio to share. The carpaccio was delicious, though I think it would have been even better with a different type of crackers since the ones served were a bit too hard. Good news…read more Bad news first is this: The Drake has been sold to new owners and TONIGHT, APRIL 12, WILL BE THE LAST DAY OF SERVICE at The Drake with the original owner and the current menu. So if you're hankering for the mac n cheese or shrimp n grits or veg burger or any of the menu items, after today they are history. I started eating at The Drake in their first week of business and had many, many, many meals there over the years but things change and so, it seems, has the popularity of The Drake. Now the good news. The new owners are a trio and one of them is also one of the owners of the inestimable Ken's Artisan Pizza in Portland that opened its' Bend location last year. (Go! Even if you have to stand in line for 45 minutes like I did.) The first news of this ownership change was that they would keep the name and current focus of The Drake. But local television news reports that after The Drake closes today it will be reimagined with a new name and design and menu. The opening for the new place is currently said to be Memorial Day weekend. I don't live in Bend anymore but there is still a family home there and so I visit on occasion and knowing a "Ken's" owner is involved in the new enterprise may make me brave the wicked-bad downtown parking to try this new place. In the meantime, I remember how fun and delicious it could be to eat at The Drake.

I had a ball! (Actually, quite a few :)…read more Quite a few years ago, I was on a motorcycle trip coming into Bend, and I saw their sign that said "mountain oysters." I had always wanted to try them, so I stopped in, and I've loved them ever since. They have the texture of chicken gizzards, and have kind of a liver-y taste, but not nearly as strong. It's hard to describe the flavor other than they are very good. I was passing through Bend, so I had to stop in again. This is a very down-to-earth place. Nothing fancy at all. They left the food speak for itself. My server was. Kenzie, and she was very friendly and helpful. They are more than just a steakhouse, they have a very large, varied menu The mountain oysters are normally an appetizer, but I had them as a full meal. I also had a side order of the coleslaw. To drink, I had a fruity lemonade. I don't remember what it was, but I do remember that it was very good, the fruit played well with the lemonade, and it was not too sweet. The mountain oysters were delicious, pounded thin, and not over breaded. They came with two dipping sauces, a Housemade barbecue sauce, and a jalapeño mustard. I loved the barbecue sauce, it was just a little bit sweet, and a little bit tangy. The jalapeño mustard, also very good, reminded me of a Dijon, and you could just taste the jalapeños. They didn't overpower the mustard. The coleslaw was also very good, it was not overdressed, and I'm not sure what the dressing was, but it was savory and just a little bit tangy. I took my dessert with me to go. I had the MarionBerry bread pudding. It was moist, and a little bit sweet, but not too sweet. It was an excellent bread pudding, and of course I forgot to take a photo. They were generous with the berries, and they really played against the bread pudding so well. It came with a caramel sauce which was very good, but I preferred the bread pudding without the caramel sauce, because I felt that the caramel sauce clashed with the berries a bit. For all I got, the price was very reasonable, and they do offer a military/veterans discount. I will be back the next time. I'm in town. Thanks
